Complications-Chapter 3

The sound of Aislin's yelling "Papa" greets Harvey as he enters his apartment. He picks up the wiggling three year old and places a kiss on her cheek. "Hey squirt. You being good for Rachel?"

She doesn't say anything right away and that tells Harvey that she may not have been on her best behavior. He looks over at Rachel who's standing by the fridge. She looks exhausted. Ais has no doubt been keeping her on her toes. He goes to tickle her "Huh? Were you good for Rachel?"

Her giggling is contagious and Harvey can't help but smile. For just a moment he's not feeling the full weight of situation. In between her giggling she's able to let out a "Was good Papa."

"Where were you guys?"

Harvey looks up to see that Jamie has walked into the kitchen. He instantly stops tickling the toddler in his arms, adjusting her in his arms. Rachel looks at him sadly. "I think I'm gonna get going." She bends down and kisses Jamie on the forehead. "See you later, bud." She makes her way over to Harvey and Aislin giving the little girl a small kiss on the side of her head. "Thanks for letting me watch Hello Kitty with you, kiddo."

"Bye, Achel." Aislin replies.

The paralegal smiles at the little girl before looking at Harvey. "Call me, later. Okay?" He knows that she wants to know what's going on with Mike, but knows that he needs to talk to the kids first. She gives him a small smile when he promises that he'll call her later.

As soon as the door closes behind Rachel Jamie asks "Where's Dad?"

Harvey motions for his son to take a seat at the island as he takes a seat there himself with Aislin on his lap. "We were at the hospital. Dad had the baby the last night."

"Are they okay?" Jamie asks quietly.

Harvey bites his lip. "Katie's a little small but she's doing good."

"Small like me?" Aislin asks looking up at her father with wide eyes.

"Even smaller. Remember, you're a big girl now." Harvey says as he kisses his daughter's soft locks.

"What about Dad?" Jamie asks. "Is he okay?"

Harvey knew this would be the hard part but it doesn't make it any easier. Looking into Jamie's eyes. The eyes that he got from Mike. "Remember how tired Dad has been because of the baby?"

Jamie nods. "Yeah. On Saturday he fell asleep before Acey and she's a baby."

"Hey! Not a baby. I'm a big ister now." Aislin says defending her new status of big sister.

"Anyways," Harvey continues. "Dad is resting. Having Katie really took a lot out of him. He needs to rest."

"So he's okay?" Jamie asks uncertainly.

"He's doing everything he can to get home to you guys," Harvey says with all the conviction he can muster. He needs to believe that what he's telling the kids is true. That Mike really is just resting letting his body get the rest it needs so that he'll come back to them at 100%.

Harvey is staring at the place where he found Mike the night before bleeding out on the tile floor. He's grateful that Donna or Rachel cleaned the bathroom. The strong smell of bleach still evident. The bloodied towels replaced with clean ones. He closes his eyes as a series of what if's fills his head. If only he noticed that Mike wasn't in bed earlier. Then maybe he wouldn't have lost so much blood before Harvey found him. Then maybe Mike wouldn't have already been in shock when he got to the ER. If only he listened to that voice that told him not to go for another baby ten months ago. That they were pushing their luck with a third pregnancy. Harvey curses himself he can't think like that. He and Mike decided together to have another kid. Katie's doing well and Mike. Well, Mike's going to be fine too. He has to be.

"Papa?"

Harvey rubs his chin tiredly. "Hey, kiddo. Aislin up?"

His son shakes his head. "Nah, she's still sleeping."

Harvey nods his head as he looks at his son. He can see the sadness in his son's eyes. Jamie knows there's more to the story that Harvey told him. He always told Mike that the kid is too damn smart for his own good. The numerous calls they have gotten from the administrators at Brighton Prep informing them that their son has corrected the teaching staff in front of the class told them that. And the loss look that's on his face now just cements that fact.

"When your sister wakes up from her nap we'll head over to the hospital, sound good?"

Jamie anxiously nods his head running out of the room way too loud, no doubt trying to wake Aislin up from her nap so they can head over to the hospital. Yep, he's definitely way too smart.

"There she is," Harvey says as he points to Katie's incubator. He holds onto Aislin as she leans forward to get a glimpse at her new baby sister.

"She's there?" Aislin asks in confusion.

"Yeah, I know it's kinda hard to see her. But she's there. She should be out of there in a couple of days. Then you can hold her," Harvey explains.

"She looks like an alien," Jamie says.

Harvey gives his son a glare. He and Mike thought that it would be Aislin that they would have to worry about with the arrival of Katie. Now that she would no longer be the baby and their time would be split between three kids as oppose to just the two previously. Jamie always seems so mature. He was so good when Aislin was born. Instantly bonding with his little sister. But based on his son's behavior at the moment maybe he and Mike were wrong. Maybe it's going to be Jamie who has a difficult time adjusting to a new baby.

"What?" Jamie asks. "That's what she looks like."

"Baby not an alien," Aislin says.

"You're right, Acey. She's a baby, not an alien."

Jamie rolls his eyes. "Whatever."

"Hey guys!"

Saved by the Donna. Harvey thanks god for the millionth time how grateful he is to have the redhead in his life.

"Aunt Donna!" Aislin calls reaching for his assistant. Donna takes her into his arms easily as she ruffles Jamie's hair.

"I want to see Dad," Jamie asks not deterred by Donna's appearance. Harvey looks at her as she sadly shakes her head. Harvey asked her to see if the doctors would allow Jamie in to see Mike. But it looks like that's not going to happen.

"He's still resting bud. Why don't we get out of here and grab some ice cream."

"Ice cream!" Aislin chants.

Jamie quirks his head to the side. "Ice cream? But, we haven't had even had dinner yet."

Donna's not phased. "Today's different. It's not every day that my favorite niece and nephew get a new baby sister. Let's celebrate."

"Ice cream!" Aislin calls out again.

But the look on Jamie's face tells them that he's weary of the situation. Always fast on her feet, Donna changes tactics. "I heard you're reading that new series. Let's go so you can tell me about it."

She's ingenious. Realizing that if ice cream isn't going to work to get Jamie off the topic of seeing Mike his love for reading might. It seems like Donna's change in pace works when Jamie's eyes light up. "It's so cool! There's this guy named Bartolommeo who-"

"Okay, bud. Slow down for a second. Let's get going. Aunt Donna is in desperate need of pistachio ice cream. And I'm pretty sure there's a chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream cone calling your name."

Jamie nods his head and Harvey says goodbye to the kids. As Donna turns to walk towards the elevator he mouths a 'thank you' to his assistant. She nods her head in understanding before he walks into the nursery.

Harvey's looking out the clear Plexiglas wall of Mike's ICU cubicle. He can't bear to look at his husband when he's this still. Mike is never that still. Not even when he's asleep in their own bed. Even when he wasn't pregnant Mike would spend most of the night tossing and turning, never able to get into that perfect sleep position. More times than he can count Harvey would wrap his arms around the blonde hoping that would stop his constant maneuvering.

"You have to wake up, babe. Jamie is….being Jamie." Harvey runs his hand through his hair and can't help but let out a small chuckle. "He said that Katie looks like an alien. He wants to see you, but the doctors won't let him. I'm stalling, but I can't keep beating around the bush. And Ais is as hyper as ever. It's like she's been on a constant sugar high all day."

The lawyer turns back to look at his husband. His voice hitching in his throat. "I need you, babe. Please….please wakeup."

But Mike stubbornly remains still with Harvey's plea falling on deaf ears.

Even though Mike is still unconscious, I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter
