A special thanks to Ophelia'song, Xaphrin, xRavenxRobinx and SecretelyDark for the encouragement and interest on this story. (and also thanks to the guest user). If it weren't for them I'm pretty sure this story would've been cancelled. Thanks to everyone who's following and faving this, I truly appreciate it

I do not own Teen Titans or Batman or Jason Todd {clearly}

Previously on Above the Water…

"I'm sorry Raven," he sighed in defeat. "I never wanted to hurt you."

But you did, in every possible way, she thought to herself.

"I need to know what happened. I found you by the docks, you had almost drowned…" he explained trying to keep it together, "I thought I'd lost you Rae, I…"

"But you already had Nightwing. You lost me months ago." She finally met his gaze. "I don't know what came over me; I don't know why I reached out to you. But don't worry, I won't bother you again, I promise."

"Raven. I won't let you leave; you can't even use your powers…" he told her as she tried to lift herself from the bed but failed. "Please, I was just trying to protect you, I need to know the truth."

"Fine, I'll tell you what happened and I'll stay until my powers come back, but then I'm gone Richard. For good."

"I'm sorry Rae, for everything, please, at least look at me," he pleaded unsuccessfully.

"Now is not the time to ask for forgiveness Richard," she responded dryly as she rubbed her temples, trying to focus through the pain of a terrible headache, "Where am I?"

"You're at the Batcave… the hospital wing actually."

"Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse," she said, removing the sheets from her body harshly and trying to stand up. The sudden exposure of her skin made Nightwing flinch. Not because of her perfectly porcelain skin, but because of the countless cuts and bruises and scrapes that adorned her limbs.

"Oh god Raven, don't move. I didn't know you had been physically hurt, Bruce had examined you, I thought…"

"They're clean, the wounds I mean, he must have cleaned them up, don't worry they'll be gone as soon as my powers return". She stated coldly as she sat up and examined the damage.

"Raven please stay still, look at you, you're in no condition to be up and about. What the hell happened to you?"

"Oh this? It's nothing compared to being captive and tortured for weeks by an unstable sociopath," she finally confessed.

He froze. All those months away from her; looking, searching, keeping tabs on every tiny little detail that might have led him to her. And she had been captive? Tortured, starved, alone. What kind of atrocities had she been through? All this time, shutting down the bond, for her own safety and it had been all in vain. All of the effort that took him, the sleepless nights away from her, for nothing. A turmoil of guilt and self hatred invaded him. He shouldn't have listened to Batman, he had been wrong. He wanted to kick himself and his mentor, but all his body craved was her, to hold her and to heal her. To know every single detail of their time apart. And to find whoever was responsible for what she had been through.

"Raven, Rae…" he whispered as he stood beside her and held her by the shoulders, preventing her from standing up. "Who did this to you?" Her initial answer was silence. Her eyes welled up and she avoided his gaze for what seemed like the millionth time. He pressed on, his hands trembling with hatred, his fingers digging on her skin faintly. "Who did this?" he asked again through gritted teeth.

"Jason—Jason Todd."She finally met his gaze, her amethyst eyes burning with hurt and honesty. He felt his skin crawl, both at her stare and at her words, and that bloody name.

"No. that's impossible… he's …"

"Dead? He seemed pretty alive to me, and strong too."

He remained silent for a while, his mind racing through an immense universe of odds and possibilities. Jason Todd, as far as he knew, was dead. After Robin had taken off to Jump City, Batman found himself a 'new Robin'. Batman had seen Jason Todd die in front of his eyes, he had seen the terrible explosion, no one could've survived. How could this be true? It didn't make any sense at all. But still, he knew Raven was not lying, her eyes smoldered with truthfulness.

"But how? And why? Why did he torture you of all people?" he turned away from her, running his hands through his hair nervously, his world falling apart.

"To get to you. He wanted information, he wanted you and he wanted Batman. I don't know what exactly you both did to him, but he was pretty angry about it." She explained calmly as she stood up carefully as her joints protested and she winced in slight pain.

"I can't believe this."

"I know this sounds unreal, but it was him."

"It's not that Raven, I believe you. It's just that all I ever tried to do was protect you from this sort of situations and all I did was drag you directly into the arms of the enemy," his voice was broken, his back facing her, shoulders hunched, "I'm sorry Raven, I was such a fool."

She shivered as he crumbled before her, dropping his walls and exposing his pain to her. Her empathy, although numbed by the remnants of the drug, was flooded by the incoming weight of his sorrow and guilt. Slowly, dragging her feet, she moved towards him, until she was at his side. The tired girl looked up at him and it was then that she noticed the tears staining his cheeks. Her throat tightened and her eyes turned suddenly misty. Finally, she reached for his hand, wrapping both of her small cold hands around his calloused one. As soon as they made physical contact, a rush of energy surged through her, and it seemed to travel through him as well, because he turned to face her with a surprised expression plastered across his face. Sparks of invisible energy cursed through them, as if the bond was mending, or more exactly, resurfacing. The vigilante placed his free hand on her cheek, and she involuntarily leaned in as he stroked her face for a moment; suddenly she was wrapped in his arms, her body pressed against him, as sobs escaped from him, his body shaking uncontrollably. She buried her face on his chest and held him as he cried. In the distance of the Batcave a machine exploded.

Well, at least her powers were back.

That's it guys! Hope you like it and please review, if you do, I'll update faster :) we still need to know where Raven was for the past year, because Jason only had her for a few months… dun dundun
