Clary giggled as she saw Jace's ridiculous dancing. She shook her head and joined in.

"Hey-hey! Academy High students, it's time for our first slow song of the night! Find someone, and get out on the dance floor!" The DJ changed the song to Lonestar's Amazed.

Clary looked down at her feet, uncomfortable. Jace held a hand out to her. "Care for a dance?" Clary nodded, and flashed a small smile.

Jace was perfect at dancing. Clary felt stupid dancing with him, stepping on his feet every other step. Clary muttered, "I'm sorry, I can't dance." Jace just chuckled and shook his head. "It's alright, it took me a while to learn."

Clary nodded and stared into Jace's eyes. They were a startling blue. Wow, Clary thought. They were gorgeous. And mesmerizing. And beautiful. And wonder-

Her thoughts were interrupted by screaming. "Clary! Get down!" Jace yelled after her. But Clary stood, frozen in her tracks, staring at the scene around her.

People in dark jackets with dark hair were everywhere. She looked to her left, and saw the DJ. His blood was getting sucked out of him from the wrist. And the dark person was sucking it. Vampires, Clary thought. I thought they were just silly myths...

"Clary! GET DOWN!" Jace screamed after her. He pulled out his sword, and sliced a deep, red smile, in the vampire's throat. It evaporated to dust, as it rained to the ground. Clary gasped and stumbled backwards, dropping her purse. The small stone fell out.

Jace looked towards her and saw the small stone. His eyes got wide and he looked up at Clary. "Witchlight. Clary, give me your palm." Clary reluctantly handed her palm over. He took a small tool-looking thing out of her pocket, and drew the same marking on the stone onto her palm.

"Listen to me, Clary walk up to the vampires. Don't be afraid. Hold your palm out to them, and they will evaporate. Trust me. You have to." Clary nodded and got up slowly.

Clary walked slowly to the vampires. The taller one, the leader, looked at her and smiled. "Well, are you our next victim? Ahh, you look too good to be true. Perhaps…" He looked at his fellow vampires. "We will have to share you."

Clary shook her head. "No, you won't." Swiftly, she held her palm to the vampires. A bright ray of light shone through her palm. The vampires shielded their eyes from the light and hissed, but it was no use. They all evaporated to dust.

Clary shook with fear. Jace came up behind her and touched her gently on the shoulder. She winced and punched him in the face. "Easy now." He said, rubbing his nose.

"Sorry I thought you were a – WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED OUT THERE?!" She yelled. Jace grabbed her hand and led her outside. "I'll explain in the car. Let's go, before any more get here."

She walked outside, clenching Jace's hand. Alec, Isabelle, and Simon followed, as they got into the car, and flew off as fast as they possibly could.
