EPISODE 3: LAST CHANCE TO DANCE
Moonlight City (Sister City to Sunrise), Capital high school
A crowd had formed outside of the school gates. Police cars and an ambulance lay parked outside. Murmuring occurred amongst the crowd as the paramedic came out through the doors, a body bag and a stretcher taking who ever was inside it to the ambulance. As the onlookers attempted to gain a clear view, a teenaged, dark haired girl watched from afar. She turned and began to walk away, but she noticed a dark figure at the corner of her eye.
A woman stood not too far away. "Hello Batlana" She said.
The girl turned to her "Lust. How many times have I told you not to call me by my real name"
"Oh my apologies, "Jaina", that was not my intention" Lust claimed.
"Liar" Jaina laughed, with Lust smirking to herself.
"The council has a task for you. It might not get the job done right away. But it will certainly get us closer to our goal." Lust continued on. "One of them has the perfect hobby for us. She'll share the same fate as that girl back there"
Jaina looked back to Lust "I'm listening"
Cue Theme Song
Arnas' personal training grounds.
Arnas stood looking to the skies. He seemed to be looking for something. He lifted his hand shielding his eyes from the glowing sun. Despite his hand already covering up the sun, the skies still kept getting darker. He wasn't surprised at all though as he saw a massive black shape getting closer and a large metallic creature that was diving towards him, suddenly it pulled back up into the air. "CAREFUL FIRE STORM! YOU ALMOST TOOK MY HEAD OFF!"
The Red Dragon turned his head back towards the man. "ITS NOT MY FAULT!. BLAME THE GUY PILOTING ME!"
"Hey" Reese could be heard from inside the Dragon. The Red Ranger sat in a cockpit with a variety of buttons and machinery surrounding him. "Excuse me if I'm having trouble riding a FREAKING FIRE BREATHING DRAGON!"
"Guys" Gwen's voice came through the communicator. "Would you quit with the shouting. Boys these days" The Yellow Ranger laughed to herself.
"You can say that again" Lightning Bolt responded, using her massive wingspan to cut trees in half. "You're doing a fine job Gwen"
"Thanks I think I'm starting to get the hang of this thing"
Rock Slide flew over head. And Green Ranger Aaron decided to impress his crush. "Yeah, I do too. It's like second nature to me"
"I WOULDN'T SAY TTTTHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT!" Rock Slide yelled as he was driven into to the mountain in front of him.
As they crashed Blue Ranger Logan started complaining. "YOU IDIOT! This is serious stop showing off"
Tidal Wave smiled "Rock Slide never has been too bright himself honestly"
"I heard that" Rock Slide said.
Gwen giggled "How you holding up Rebecca?" No Answer "Rebecca?"
"REBECCA!" Whirl Wind shook herself. The Pink Ranger snapped out of her trance. "Is there something wrong? We need to get back into the air"
"Right, sorry" Rebecca placed her hands onto the mechanisms that she used to steer. "It's just that I'm missing my Gymnastics class"
"Rebecca!" Reese called "I know that you care about that. But if you don't take this seriously and concentrate on defending this world, there won't be any world to accomplish you're dream in"
"I know, sorry. Lets go Whirl Wind" At Rebecca's command the Horned Dragon took to the air.
Arnas stood while Drake sat next to him who turned and asked. "Why couldn't we have just trained here in the first place? Did me and Reese really have to go out into the middle of the forest just to find some privacy?"
"Do you have any idea how much magic it takes to conjure this place up? I only wanted to use this spell as a place for pilot training, but since the trickster incident I'll have to settle for this place" Arnas claimed.
Rebecca was beginning to stabilize Whirl Wind, "That's it Rebecca. You see what happens when you concentrate?" The next thing that she heard though was singing. "I didn't know that you could sing"
"I can't, my moms calling me on my phone" Pulling her mobile out and stopping the song ringtone
"Well your mom can sing and what's a phone"
"Hi Mom…. Yes I know I'm late….. I'm with my friends…. I know I should have told you, but I'm a teenager, I can do what I want… Oh what's that noise? Just a truck… NO! I'm not on a plane."
"REBECCA!" Reese shouted. Rebecca lifted her head and saw herself heading at top speed towards a mountain top. Rebecca hung up and attempted to steer Whirl Wind higher, but too little too late, they collided with the mountain. And being smaller, Whirl Wind took much more damage than Rock Slide did.
Firestorm darted down and landed beside the unconscious Whirl Wind. A slot in his head opened up and Reese climbed out. Reese then leapt onto Whirl Winds back and ran onto her head. He ignited his sword and jabbed it in between the hatch behind her horn. Reese pulled the doors open and jumped in as the other Dragons landed and gathered around alongside Arnas and Drake who darted up as fast as they could. Reese grabbed Rebecca and pulled her out. "I think she's Ok" Reese shouted
"Thank god for that" said Gwen. The other Dragons opened up their hatches Logan and Gwen were both ejected out and landed on their feet, whilst Aaron was sent flying and face planted on the floor.
Aaron turned around and he saw a yellow Ranger like figure walking over towards him besides the sun. Aaron got excited, Gwen was gonna help him again. "Oh, thank you Gwen"
"Gwen? Maybe you got hit on the head a little too hard there" Aaron saw the Ranger blot out the sun revealing what looked like yellow was actually blue "Now get up you idiot" Logan grabbed Aaron's collar and pulled him up, dragging the Green Ranger towards the others.
Aaron turned to see Gwen looking up at Whirl Wind and Drake walked up to her. Reese was helping Rebecca, who had an injured leg, down from her Dragon, the Red Ranger handed Rebecca down to Gwen and Drake. "Hey Gwen, I just wanted to say great job out there. You were the first to get the hang of things. I'd say you're a natural" The two of them helped Rebecca over to Arnas.
"Thanks a lot, Drake" Gwen replied "But I can't wait to see what you've got when you turn 18"
"I think that's enough for today" Arnas clamped his hands over a small orb and the mountainous area disappeared. They were back at the base and Rebecca's injured leg had healed. "You were lucky that you don't sustain real injuries in the Drakion orb" Arnas said "Now, tell me, what happened out there Rebecca"
"My Mother called me, she was wondering where I was" She stood up as if nothing had happened.
"Rebecca, you need to concentrate on this" Gwen responded and placed her hand on her friends shoulder.
"Well maybe she would have listened if our fearless leader was more assertive" said Logan harshly
"Assertive?" Reese responded "I'll show you just how I can be if you don't shut up"
"BOTH OF YOU, CALM DOWN!" Arnas interrupted "We'll settle this another time" He turned to Rebecca "Gwen is right, you need to maintain concentration. This threat is too big"
"I know, but what was I supposed to do? Leave her worried because she didn't know where I was and I wasn't answering my phone?"
"Tell her where you were in advance" Aaron answered, poking his head out from behind the group. Rebecca face palmed herself in response. How could she have been so stupid?
"I gotta leave, I need some time to think about this" Rebecca left through the portal, the other Rangers looked towards the portal before finally following suit.
Sunrise City, Capital Highschool
Rebecca walked into the gymnasium, dressed ready in her training outfit. "Rebecca" Her teacher Miss Winslow called out to her. "Rebecca, we have a new student joining us today. Moved her from Moonlight City"
The girl standing next to her smiled "Hi I'm Jaina"
"She seems to be a fellow gymnast and she needs someone to show her some of the reigns"
"I haven't exactly been doing it for long, so some training would be great" Jaina said
"So you're asking me to be her mentor?" Rebecca questioned
"Well I feel that you've done it for so long that I'm giving you a chance to prepare yourself to teach in the future"
"I don't know if this is such a good idea" Rebecca told her.
"Why not?" Miss Winslow asked
"It just that I have some other duties to attend to" Rebecca informed her "It's a bit personal"
"This is your future we're talking about. What could be more important than that? I don't think your world will end if you do this" Rebecca started thinking to herself. "Also if you do this, this Friday I'll introduce you to a friend that I met in Paris. An Olympic champion, a certain miss Hart"
Rebecca's eyes widened "You mean Ki-?"
"Yes" Miss Winslow interrupted "So are you up for it?"
Rebecca thought about it for a couple of seconds. What do I do, the other Rangers need me. Ah heck its only for a little bit. "It's a deal" Rebecca smiled and turned to Jaina. "Come on lets get going" Rebecca put her bag down and pushed it to the side, and Jaina walked over to the gymnastic section. "So why did you move from Moonlight City?"
"Parents wanted to move, wanted to try new places and new things" Jaina replied
"Well, how about you show me what you've got"
Sunrise City, Capital High School, Dinner Hall
Reese, Gwen and Aaron sat at a dinner table having their lunch, Logan sat on a different table on his own as usual, listening to death metal on his headphones. Reese was deep in thought "Is something wrong Reese" Gwen asked.
Reese lifted his head to look at the pink haired girl "Oh no, I'm just wondering about Rebecca"
"Aw, someone got the love bite" teased Aaron "I always knew you had a thing for Rebecca"
"What? No!" Reese responded rather defensively "It her concentration, she doesn't have it focused and it worries me"
"Her mother called her, what did you expect?" Gwen said "I think that she's learnt her lesson"
A group of boys that were nearby called out "Yo Ward," Reese turned around in response to hearing his surname "get over here" Reese got up and went to speak to them.
Aaron and Gwen were now on their own "Um… well. Speaking of being love bitten….. There was something I wanted to ask you"
"Aw Aaron that's so sweet" Gwen replied. Aaron was shocked and extremely excited and then Drake sat next to them. "Hey Drake, how are you?" Aaron was a little dissatisfied with the interruption.
"I'm fine there's something I've been meaning to ask since I first laid eyes on you" Drake said, Aaron jerked his head towards them, worried about what he would ask. "Why is you're hair pink?"
Oh thank god, Aaron thought. For a second there I was worried he was gonna ask her out.
"Oh that. I'm just a big anime fan I guess you could say" Gwen replied "I know it's weird"
"No kidding, me too" Drake said "Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Bleach, Zoids, you name it"
"Cool, maybe we should watch some together some time" Gwen smiled.
"Well there is an anime convention soon, you can come along if you would like to" Drake offered
"I'd like that" Aaron's smiled started to fade away. Reese returned to the table. "What was that about?"
"Just some of my brother's friends wondering how his vacation is going for him" The morphers then started beeping.
Gwen looked at Aaron "I'll give you some advice on how to attract girls later" She said before standing up.
"Advice?" Aaron asked himself.
They then left the cafeteria to find a safer place. Aaron threw a chip at Logan who removed his headphones and turned to Aaron with an angry face. Aaron tapped the morpher so that Logan knew what it was for. Logan joined them in a quieter area. "Its Reese, go ahead"
"Rangers a new monster is attacking the city"
"We're on it" Reese responded
"What about Rebecca?" Gwen asked
"She's in Gym class, she won't let us down" Reese replied "READY!"
"MORPHIN SEQUENCE INITIATE" The Rangers transformed and opened up a portal with an orb that Arnas gave them. "Drake you stay hear and look for Rebecca" Reese ordered. Drake sighed while the Rangers ran through the portal.
Sunrise City
One by one the Rangers jumped onto the scene, before them a vampiric female warrior stood. "So, who's today's contestant?" Aaron asked spear in hand.
"We meet at last, I am Lust. One of the Wyvern armies' generals" She replied
"General? Aaron responded "But don't villains usually save their bigger guns for later?"
The morphers beeped and Arnas' voice came through "Rangers, if she's a general you have to be very careful. You probably have no chance to be honest"
"Thanks for the encouraging words mentor" Aaron answered sarcasticallay.
Reese looked at the watch "Chance or not, we're willing to take it" The Rangers charged forward to meet their foe. Arnas wasn't kidding, her speed was incredible and was made evident when Logan poked his Trident towards her, she effortlessly dodged it with a simple side step. Logan turned and Lust used a downward chop attack on Logan's back to knock him on his chest.
"Never learn do you?" Aaron chuckled remembering their first battle. He then swung his Spear and with a simple duck Lust dodged and jumped forward, pinning Aaron to the ground. Lust raised her hand to scram him, but it was caught by Gwen's whip. Lust jerked her hand forward, launching Gwen off of her feet and sending her flying into Reese.
Sunrise City, Capital High School, Gymnasium
For a while now Rebecca had trained with Jaina extremely hard until Rebecca became exhausted, but Jaina was still standing. "Damn Jaina, I'm impressed. You haven't broken a sweat. Are you sure you're only a beginner or are you just trying to impress me?"
"Very funny, it was after my parents recognised my abilities to exercise that they recommended that I do this" Jaina smiled "Used to work in a team back at Moonlight because if you work together you can become unstoppable"
"Well I'm tired, I think that I'll call it a day and get a move on" Rebecca said tiredly.
"Same time tomorrow? If you have a free period that is" Jaina asked.
"I suppose so. I'll catch you around" Rebecca replied and began walking off.
"See ya" waved Jaina.
Rebecca picked up her bag and started making her way back to her house until Drake came running up behind her. "Rebecca!" He called "Where are you going? The others are fighting in the city" Rebecca's eyes widened and looked around to see if anyone was watching, no one was.
She raised her hand "MORPHING SEQUENCE INITIATE!" Rebecca transformed "Pink Dragon Ranger" She used her orb and ran through the portal, with Drake following behind.
Sunrise City
Rebecca jumped into the action, still tired "Sorry I'm late guys, I was a little caught up"
"About time too" Logan said under his breathe.
"Ah, I see that you've finally arrived Pink Ranger. Well then, with no further delays let me introduce you to my dear old friend" And with a click of her fingers a slender female monster arrived, a troop of Slit Eyes accompanying her. "This is Batlana. She will be your entertainment this evening"
As lust opened a portal and walked through it before it disappeared, the Slit Eyes charged forward and engaged the Rangers. Batlana singled out the exhausted Rebecca who at this stage couldn't find the strength to fight back. The Pink Ranger collapsed, with the foe standing over her "Is that all? I expected more from a Power Ranger"
Reese cut down several of the Slit Eyes and pulled out his blaster, he shot at Batlana who stumbled backwards. The Red Ranger ran over to Rebecca and helped her up "Are you ok?"
"Yes, I think I'm gonna be alright" She replied, The Rangers were battling viciously and Gwen was eventually overwhelmed, the Slit Eyes grabbed her and pulled her to the ground.
"Gwen!" Aaron yelled and tried to fight his way towards her. The monsters prepared to attack her, but suddenly as if out of nowhere Drake jumped into the crowd of creatures.
The Slit Eyes collapsed on top of each other and as Drake was standing himself up 2 other Slit Eyes grabbed his arms. "DRAKE, NO!" Gwen cried out. But luckily Logan jumped in with his trident and knocked the 2 creatures aside. Drake ran over to Gwen and helped her up "What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I came through Rebecca's portal, I had to help" The boy replied.
The Green Ranger looked on in jealousy. I should have been the one to save her, he thought. But nobody noticed his face under his helmet.
After defeating the slit eyes the group rejoined Reese and Rebecca. Batlana was steadying herself up. "Ok guys, lets form the Dragon Breathe Blaster" The Rangers began the formation. Until Rebecca's dagger fell from her hand and she collapsed. "Rebecca? REBECCA!" Reese and Gwen lowered themselves down towards their fallen friend. Logan wasted no time in lifting his blaster and shooting Batlana repeatedly.
Batlana darted off, opened up a portal and ran through it. "And stay out" Aaron yelled, he then turned to see the other Rangers looking over the unconscious Pink Ranger. Reese lifted her and carried Rebecca away from the watching public.
Capital City, Rebecca's house
The Rangers had powered down once out of sight and carried Reese carried Rebecca home. They were at the front door and Gwen rang the door bell for him. Rebecca's mother answered the door. "Mrs Watson" Gwen began "We're friends of Rebecca, we found her on the gymnasium floor in school. She seemed to have collapsed"
Rebecca's mother shouted for her husband, who darted towards the door. "Rebecca was found unconscious in school by her friends they brought her here"
"She sweating" He responded "Probably needs a doctor" He looked at the group "Thank you very much. But we have to call the doctor"
"That's fine" Gwen replied "We'll come back later to see she's ok. Reese go and take her inside, we'll wait outside"
"Reese? Reese Ward?" The older man looked at him and Reese nodded confused "Rebecca talks about you all the time" Reese looked a little surprised "Come on in and put her on the sofa" Reese did just that and returned to the group and left.
"She seemed to have been exhausted" Logan grunted. The others looked at him "I mean did you see how she was fighting earlier. It was pathetic" Reese lunged for the boy, but the others held him back. "She also turned up late as well. She isn't good enough and she doesn't care. Maybe she isn't cut out for this"
"Don't you dare say those words again. You hear me?" Reese was angry "She's a better Ranger than you'll ever be. At least her heart is in the right pla-"
"At least that's what I thought" Logan interrupted "But I realised that she was exhausted before the fight. So either she cared more about her class or she was tricked" The Rangers were confused "I'll tell you tommorow"
Sunrise City, Capital High School
It was Friday and the group were out of class on free period at the end of school. Rebecca was out of school due to her illness "Here is the school year book" Logan pointed at a picture of Jaina "This is Jaina Tatum, she moved here recently and joined the gymnast team. But she apparently moved from Moonlight" Logan pulled out his laptop "Approximately a week ago, Carlie Roberts collapses from exhaustion at an extreme rate. She had to be rushed into hospital. Don't you guys find this a little suspicious"
Reese thought about it "She had gym class before that and… oh my god. To the gymnasium"
The Rangers made their way down to the gymnasium as quickly as possible and passed Miss Winslow "Hey, what's with the rush?"
"We're looking for Jaina Tatum" Drake replied
"She's in there packing up" The Rangers nodded and walked into the gymnasium and saw Jaina.
"Um excuse me" Jaina looked up at Gwen "Jaina Tatum?"
"That's me" She replied
"Hi we're friends of Rebecca" Gwen continued
"Oh, you don't have to explain why she wasn't in. I know everythi-"
"What have you done to her?" Logan interrupted
"Oh I know what you're talking about, but I'm not the monster you're looking for" The Rangers looked on, Aaron raising an eyebrow "I'm actually on the run from her, she's called Batlana. She exhausts her victims and then sucks their life force out of them. Look I have proof in my bag, I'll show you" She unzipped her bag and reached in, the Rangers drew closer and Jaina pulled out a card and faced it towards them. They were blasted backwards hitting the wall and then found themselves tied together in rope like energy.
"What on earth?" Gwen asked
"A little gift from Trickster before you destroyed him" Jaina laughed and transformed into Batlana "You really are predictable. Wait a minute." She began counting them "1, 2, 3, 4, 5? And Rebecca isn't with you" She looked at Drake "Now I remember you. You must be the chosen one" She laughed mockingly "Not only will I deliver the Rangers to Lord Predas, but also the prophesised one. My rewards will be great"
Outside the school, Rebecca waited. Her parents allowed her to go the trip with Miss Winslow who drove right beside Rebecca in her car "Are you ready Rebecca?"
"Yes, absolutely" Rebecca walked forward, until her morpher beeped. "I'll be back in a moment" She turned away "What is it Arnas? I'm a bit busy"
"Rebecca the Rangers are in trouble, their in the gymnasium" Rebecca lifted her head and turned to the school and then to Miss Winslows car. She walked towards the car.
"Miss Winslow, something came up" Rebecca said
"What is it?" She asked
"It's personal" Rebecca replied
"Well it can't be anymore important than meeting Kim-"
"Its way more important" Rebecca interrupted "I'm sorry, please apologise to her" Rebecca turned and ran towards the school. Miss Winslow had a faint smile on her face.
Rebecca darted through the doors. She saw the others tied up. Batlana turned to her and spoke in Jaina's voice "Hello Rebecca, I've been expecting you"
"Jaina?" Rebecca responded
"Bingo" Batlana blasted at the girl who jumped to her left.
Rebecca raised her hand "MORPHING SEQUENCE INITIATE!" Rebecca transformed into the Pink Ranger standing directly across the other side of the room. She extended out her hand "Wind!" her dagger formed in her hand.
"Well, looks like this is your last chance do dance" The 2 of them charged towards each other. Batlana prepared to attack, but Rebecca slid beneath her, tripping her opponent over. Rebecca threw her dagger towards the Rangers and it shattered the energy rope. The Rangers fell to the floor and tried to stand themselves up. "What? No!"
"I may have not always been there for my team, but they are always there for me no matter what. So I'm stepping up my game" Rebecca reclaimed her dagger.
Reese stood next to her "Thanks Rebecca. Come on guys"
"MORPHING SEQUENCE INITIATE!" The Rangers transformed.
"Fire!"
"Water!"
"Earth!"
"Lightning!"
The Rangers weapons formed and they chased her out of the gym, while Drake remained by the door, watching. Batlana attacked using a fighting style that seemed to be based on dance moves. Gwen attempted to trip her with her Whip, but Batlana jumped over it. Logan pulled out his blaster and shot at her, she dodged them and Logan swung his Trident at her. She stepped backwards and turned, only to be greeted by Aaron's spear smashing her in the face. "Nice one" said Logan.
Aaron looked at him "A compliment? Who are you and what have you done with the real Logan?" Aaron replied sarcastically. Logan rolled his eyes beneath his helmet.
Batlana stood up and her arm was caught by Gwen's whip. "How can this be?"
Rebecca faced her "Because when you work together, you can become unstoppable" Logan and Aaron proceeded to whack her in the face with their Trident and Spear. The 2 moved aside and Reese jumped in and slashed her multiple times with his sword. Rebecca then ran behind her and stabbed with her dagger.
She jumped off and Gwen released lightning into her foe through her whip. She then let her go and rejoined the others. "Dragon Breathe Blaster" The Rangers formed their ultimate weapon and shot at her, killing their opponent.
Villains Base
Lord Predas stood watching next to the council of Karmakos. Onyxia turned to Lust "You see, you should have destroyed them when you were fighting them. Can we send down the invasion now?"
"Shut up Onyxia" Lust replied and she pulled out tricksters old card and threw it through the portal "Grow and obliterate"
Sunrise City, Capital High School
The card flew into the remains of Batlana and glowed. Within a couple of seconds Batlana was revived and bigger than ever. A portal had opened up from above though and the Dragons flew down and landed. "Fire Storm, you're here"
The Dragons switched into their mechanical forms "Yes Reese, now Rangers join us" The Rangers jumped into the Dragons through the hatches on their foreheads, before were control panels and after taking hold of the steering wheels and lifted off.
"Alright, let's show them some real Zord power!" Aaron yelled. The Dragons flew around their opponent. Aaron made Rock Slide fly beneath Batlana and lift her into the air with his back. He threw her onto the ground and launched a barrage of boulders at her. As she stood up Logan commanded Tidal Wave to wrap his long serpent like body around Batlana's legs leaving her unable to move.
"I can't use my dancing style moves at this size!" Batlana screamed. Fire Storm flew before her and with Reese's order gave her a face full of fire breathe. Lightning Bolt flew above her blasted her electricity, while Tidal Wave unwrapped quickly in order to gain no damage. Whirl Wind circled Batlana and created a tornado which lifted her into the air and after ceasing the Tornado Batlana face planted the floor.
The Dragons banded together and unleashed their elemental breathes at Batlana, destroying her once and for all.
The Dragons landed and launched the Rangers out, Aaron went flying again and Drake ran over to help him out. "You've got to work on those landings man" Drake laughed.
The Dragons have reverted to their regular scaly forms "Well done Rangers" Fire Storm boomed "You have commanded us well. Now we must retreat back to the sun" The Dragons flew into the air and passed through the portal which closed behind them.
"Power down" The Rangers said in unison and they reverted back to their civilian clothes and made their way away from the school.
"THAT WAS AWESOME!" Aaron yelled.
"You can say that again" Reese replied "Logan, well done on finding out about Jaina. That was excellent detective work"
"About time too" Logan snorted.
"And Rebecca" Rebecca turned to Reese "Thank you for coming as fast as you can, despite your illness earlier"
"Yeah, It's a shame I had to miss my trip with Miss Winslow" She replied
"That just goes to show how much you care for you're friends and you listen to your heart" Reese placed his left hand on her right shoulder.
Aaron stood beside them singing "Can you feel the love tonight?" Rebecca turned around and punched his face "Ouch, sorry I deserved that"
The Rangers walked off home and nearby Miss Winslow watched smiling. She pulled out her mobile phone. "Hey it's me. Yes, Rebecca past the test"
The female voice responded "Good, when her and the others are trained up and learn more about the legacy, they'll be ready for the ultimate battle. Please keep an eye on her"
Miss Winslow smiled once more "Don't worry, I will….. Kimberly"
