Kira Sema: So that's who you are…and are you sure you know who it is?
GirlofLegend: Thank you
Phantom: You're just barely figuring out that I'm mean?
Jeanette9a: I take it you're glad it isn't the end yet.
Guests: I'm sorry for the wait.
See Readers I haven't died and I haven't discontinued this story. However I am aware that I have let this go for approximately 6-7 months now. HUGE apologies for that mostly because I don't have any excuse for it except for pure laziness on my part. Sorry about that. This is mostly a filler because I'm still trying to figure out how to end this silly thing. Anyways here you go:
Sadly I still have no ownership of Danny Phantom
Chapter 14
Grimacing, Vlad slowly sank back down onto his bed and exhaled slowly as soon as he was able to relax into it. He glanced over at the questioning look on Daniel's face but ignored it and instead focused on waiting for his ally to arrive.
Danny, after seeing that he wasn't going to get any more of an explanation from Vlad; let out a huff and sat down on the couch glaring at the older crossbreed. He didn't sit down for more than ten minutes because he caught a very faint rhythmic thudding sound at which he stood up again.
A slight smile crossed the older hybrid's lips in response to Daniel's reaction; Plasmius had noticed the sound before the other crossbreed and had been watching the boy to see what he would do.
The sound steadily grew louder until Danny was able to recognize what it was "Hoof-beats?" Before he could say anything a great black horse pranced through Vlad's patio window. Atop it was the Fright Knight, his black armor gleaming. Danny threw another fierce look at Plasmius, who skillfully managed to avoid it.
"You called me, my liege?" The knight asked climbing down from his steed, which snorted and tossed his great head, pawing at the ground.
"I did. Stable your horse with mine, just remember to instruct it to mask that it is dead; we don't need another episode like last time. After that I require your services."
The armor-clad ghost inclined his head and turned to his horse, stroking its neck, he whispered to it. The mount huffed; looked its master in the eye and then shifted, it's outline blurring. When it's form had cleared what was left was a magnificent looking equine, magnificent but not ghostly. It turned a great brown eye to its master, blinked and then trotted out of the room, its tail swishing as it went.
"What is it you need me to do?"
His face contorting with pain, Masters attempted to sit up in his bed "Unfortunately the task that I need you to do is rather below what I would normally have you do, however…" here he gave up and lay back against the pillows again. He knew he could've had Daniel help him with it but felt that it would make him appear even weaker.
By this time the Knight had walked around to the older hybrid's injured side and knelt by the bed examining the bandaging surrounding the man's chest "My lord an injury is nothing to be ashamed of especially if gained in battle." His purple eyes found Danny and they narrowed; his hand starting to find his sword hilt "Do you wish me to take care of him?"
Vlad's eyes flicked over towards Daniel, who had taken an involuntary step back. "No. He won't interfere" here he locked gazes with the knight "And is under MY protection."
The Knight nodded and then pointed a finger at Danny "Out."
Danny blinked surprised but decided that he didn't need to make either of the two entities before him mad and backed out of the room.
The cavalryman looked back towards the man that counted as his sovereign and waited for a signal that he had permission to start working on the bandage.
Eyeing the knight's spiky gauntlets Vlad said "Take those off first; I don't need jabbed with them."
Smiling within his helmet, he took them off and set them to his side and reached towards the bandaging and started to unwrap it. A ghostly eyebrow rose when he saw the wound and then started to redress it "Might I know, lord, what happened?"
Vlad thought about it and realized that it had been the Fright Knight who had told him where the Necklace had been and had warned him about the possible guardian. Had he known that it was a vampire hiding in the shadows? "Tell me, Fright Knight, did you know what sort of creature was guarding the legendary necklace."
The knight felt a bolt of fear pass through him at hearing the man's cool voice and he paused what he was doing "Lord, all I knew was that it was reported to be fearsome and very difficult to deal with."
"So it was. It was a vampire. "
The armored man looked into his superior's eyes "My lord, I did not KNOW what manner of thing was protecting the necklace. I only told you what I knew."
Plasmius felt his anger at his ally dissipate and let out a small sigh; it was absurd to think that Fright Knight would betray him. It was against the ghost's nature. He nodded to let the soldier know that he could carry on with the unwrapping.
While Danny had left the room he had no intention of having no way of knowing what was going on, so he put his ear to the door so he could listen in. He figured that of his two ways of eavesdropping: going invisible or the regular way that the regular way would suit him best. Mostly because he was almost certain that he would get caught by either of the two ghosts if he tried going invisible. He found himself falling forward as the door was opened by the Fright Knight. He looked up into the ghost's face and forced out a small laugh and attempted to cover up "I was just resting against the door." Danny quickly slipped past the towering knight and towards Vlad who had been watching with a small smile.
"Satisfied, Daniel?" asked the man to the teen who was currently looking over the man's new bandaging.
Danny gave an embarrassed start and hurriedly took a couple of steps back from the older hybrid.
Vlad turned his attention from Daniel to the Fright Knight "You may leave now, however I will need you later."
The armored ghost nodded and then stared in one direction, his face hidden by his helmet. A while later his horse came back into the room, its outline blurring and restoring into its former ghostly appearance. The soldier mounted and, raising his hand in a salute, rode out of the room.
A clenched fist hit the bed sheets and Vlad let out a growl; it had only been a couple of weeks since he and Daniel had been returned to Wisconsin and he was already itching to get out of bed. Only the knowledge of the fact that too much movement could hinder how fast he could heal kept him in it; that and that alone kept him firmly wedged in the blasted bed. However, if Daniel asked him one more time how he was doing, he was sure that he'd find enough energy to get up and strangle the boy. Currently, Daniel was grabbing the man's laptop; while he may be bedridden Vlad sure as butter-biscuits wasn't going to do nothing.
"How are you feeling?" Danny asked as he walked into the room carrying Vlad's suitcase that held the laptop in it.
Inwardly fighting down the urge to smack the boy Vlad replied "Just bring me the suitcase Daniel."
Danny nodded and complied; setting it on the bed next to Vlad while taking extra care to not jostle the man.
After opening it up and going to one of his many company e-mails; Vlad's eyebrows shot up and a corner of his mouth lifted a bit at the sight. There were literally almost a dozen of messages from his personal secretary asking where he was and when he was going to return. In addition to this there were other messages from various other people from different departments. No doubt that this was going to be the same situation for his other companies. He was going to have to settle this soon and tell them all something. No matter what he told them he was sure the media would find out and have a hay-day with it. He played around with possible headline titles for each explanation he could come up with in his head while trying to decide on what excuse he would put forward.
When Masters decided on his course of action, he sighed and started to e-mail an apology to certain people telling them that he had taken ill again. He rolled his eyes; undoubtedly there would be talk of his health failing him after being sick again so soon. However, he was certain he could live through that. Finished with his task he closed the laptop and stuck it back in its case.
Taking the suitcase, Danny set it down next to the wall by the bed and straightened "Vlad?"
"Yes Daniel?" Vlad sighed.
"What about all those other vampires? I mean you promised to help them revert back to their original forms so when are we planning to go back?" Feeling Vlad's gaze still upon him he continued "Obviously when you're healed but…" he let the sentence hang in the air after seeing the look the man was giving him.
He had hoped Daniel would've forgotten about that but apparently not, he brought his hand up and rubbed his forehead and then slid it down a side of his face and sighed "I'm still working on that Daniel." He was thankful that Daniel didn't ask any follow up questions about it and instead nodded. "Liar." His mind accused him because when he had made that promise he had had absolutely no intention of following through with it. He closed his eyes against an extremely strong pulse of pain and when he reopened them found Daniel staring at him with concern. A look he was getting all too frequently from the younger crossbreed. It might be time to send his little badger home; Morris could do what the teen was currently doing and he could even do Vlad's bandages making it so that the Fright Knight could go back to…whatever. "Daniel, could you grab the phone for me?"
Curious, Danny complied and then sat on the couch waiting to see who Vlad was calling and why.
He was tempted to send the boy out but it would only make the younger ghost more curious so Masters let him stay. When he heard the line pick up he responded "Hello Morris, Masters here; your vacation is over its time to return to work. I expect you to be here by the day after tomorrow, evening at the very latest." With that said Vlad hung up.
"That wasn't very nice." Danny said stretching his sitting position to a lying one.
"I wasn't trying to be nice Daniel."
"So with Morris coming does that mean that Fright Knight will stop dropping by?"
"Yes."
"Good because I really don't like him around."
Vlad sighed inwardly but said nothing in reply; instead he was thinking of a way to break it to Daniel that he was going to be sent home. He decided that he would do so once his butler returned.
"Boring" was Danny's first thought when he saw Vlad's butler. Morris wasn't what he was expecting; he had been thinking more along the lines that he would look…well… more sinister. Instead the old man reminded him of just that; a boring old man, nothing more nothing less. The butler didn't ask any questions when he saw Vlad's wound just nodded and proceeded to re-dress it. When the old man had left Danny let out a sigh "Couldn't you've picked someone a little more interesting to be your butler?"
Vlad's eyebrow raised and he sipped from the coffee his butler had brought him "And what exactly do you mean by that?"
"Exactly what I said! He is boring, nothing about him hints at anything remotely interesting!"
"Never judge a book by its cover Daniel." He said putting his empty mug on his bedside table.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I think you know and if you don't I am positive you can figure it out."
Danny rolled his eyes and started towards the door "I'm going to go open a book."
Vlad smiled to himself "Good luck with that Daniel."
The millionaire woke up to an intense gaze being directed at him, he stared right into Daniel's blue eyes "What?" he asked a bit annoyed.
"Sorry, I wasn't trying to wake you up." Danny cleared his throat and then continued on "I was just trying to figure things out."
"And you decided that staring at me while I was sleeping would somehow make the answer to your dilemma appear?" The man sighed "Well, now that I'm awake what is it that's troubling you?"
"I'm still trying to figure out how…well how we…what I mean is…"
He cut Daniel off with a short wave of his hand "You were trying to conclude what our association with each other is."
"Yeah."
"Daniel, only time will tell. As for now I suggest it remain as it is." After seeing Daniel nod Vlad headed the topic in a different direction "So were you able to get anything from Morris?"
"Just a strawberry-chocolate milkshake."
"Hmmm. Daniel what would you say about returning to Amity?"
Danny was silent for a moment, thinking things over in his mind and then said "Yes, but only after you're healed and we find a way to get those other vampires to be…un-vampires."
Silently groaning at the boy's all too righteous mind Vlad said "Daniel, you have school coming up in a few months and I most likely won't be healed by that time."
"But that doesn't mean that I have to go right now; as you said I have a few months left before I have to return."
"The whole reason why you have a summer is so you can have a break from stress Daniel, you aren't getting that here."
Danny almost laughed "I never do; it's practically ghosts nonstop all day every day. They don't care that its supposed to be my time off. You didn't either when you sent for my family to come over." When Danny had finished both of them could feel the tension that had built up; Danny looked down at his feet.
Vlad waited a little bit and then said softly "Little badger, this was not my intention when I first invited your family." He didn't say what had been his intention even though he was sure Daniel already knew; saying it would only be rubbing salt in a wound. "Daniel, this has been causing you to worry too much. I don't mean when we were looking for that accursed dagger but right here right now." He pointed to his injury "This is causing you more pressure than it is me…"
Danny locked gazes with the other hybrid and interrupted him "And you think sending me back to Amity is going to get rid of it?"
"In a way, yes. You won't have to deal with seeing it every day and instead you can focus yourself on other things. Ghosts, if need be."
"But it would mean leaving you."
That's the point Daniel. "And what about the people you left behind in Amity? Who will take care of them?"
The teen felt the words hit home but felt that he had to say something "Sam and Tucker are good enough and there's also my mom and my da.."
Vlad gave a snort which he instantly regretted, his hand flying to his side to try to ease the pain "Please, you know your father is hardly an adequate candidate for the job." He held a placating hand up to the boy's angry glare "Think about it Phantom."
Still glaring at the lying form on the bed, Danny exited the room, only just barely stopping himself from slamming the door on the way out.
"That didn't go quite as I had planned." Vlad mused sighing as he stared at his overhead canopy. His gaze switched direction when he heard the door being silently open; Morris stepped into view and Vlad felt muscles that had tightened relax. "Hello Morris."
"Sir, I do believe it is time for your wound to be redressed."
Vlad nodded and managed to get himself into a sort of sitting position. He inwardly hissed when his butler touched the bandages but outwardly remained placid. He gave a slight frown when he saw his wound; it was healing nicely but it wasn't mending near as fast as he had hoped it would.
"Sir, young master Fenton seemed to be quite upset when I passed him. Do you have any idea as to why?"
The millionaire couldn't help but give his butler a wry smile. "Simple Morris, the answer to that is me. I suggested he go home."
"Suggested, sir?"
This time Vlad actually smiled "You're right; that perhaps is not the correct word in this case. At any rate he took it badly." He looked at his butler "Any ideas Morris?"
" Many sir, however in this particular instance I would ask you if the young master could connect any part of your unfortunate wound to his presence." The butler continued when he saw his master give him a nod "In that case sir, I must say that guilt is what is keeping our young friend from wanting to leave."
Mr. Masters nodded and remained silent for the remainder of the bandaging.
After leaving Vlad's room in a huff, Danny went outside and lay on his back on the man's extensive lawn. His blue eyes watched the sky and his mind wandered as he thought both about his and Vlad's venture and nothing in particular. Why didn't he want to go? It's not as if he wanted to be here in the first place. He turned over on his side his fingers absentmindedly picking the grass; he admitted that at least some part of it had to do with his fear that if he left, things between Plasmius and him would go back to being as they had been. But after that… he had no clue. Or if he did he wasn't allowing himself to see it.
Not exactly sure if its one/two more chapters left because I haven't written anymore than this…probably just one. Anyways thanks for reading. P&H
