Everyone, I would like to welcome kakashisGirl33. She's my new Beta reader and I would love it if you all gave her a big warm welcome. I'm so honored to have her working with me on this story, now this story should be finished in no time :) Before we begin, I would like to apologize for the late-updates that I have been having with this story, everything is so stressful at my work and I'm totally swamped with all these hours I have to work, not to mention lots of family drama and relationship problems. But enough about that, surely with a new Beta, updates will be quick. Now, without any more interruptions, please sit back and enjoy the long over-due new chapter.

CHAPTER 20

"Wait, Wait, WAIT!" Minato cried loudly, causing the mailman to stop in his tracks to the next house. He screamed as the blonde man tackled him and shook him.

"Where is that letter?!" The frantic man cried loudly, shifting threw the bad of letters and packages, startling the mailman as the Fourth shook him back and forth. The poor man had no idea how to respond.

"W-which letter Yondaime-sama?"

"The one I sent this morning! WHERE IS IT?!" Minato screamed, not really caring about the crowd he was attracting in his panic.

The mailman gulped. "Um. . .I'm sorry sir, but this morning's mail has already been delivered" The man paled as Minato gulped and broke out into a cold sweat. He was dead-meat now.

"SAKURA!" A very shrill call came, rousing the pink haired girl from her beauty sleep. Sakura could hear her mother yell for her and when that happened it was never good. Sighing Sakura took her time to get dressed and ready for the Exams today. She was in the middle of brushing her pink hair when her door was slammed open.

Mebuki Haruno, Sakura's mother, stormed into the room.

"What is this?!" she screamed, waving a note in Sakura's face.

Sakura's eyes widened after she had managed to claim possession of the flying paper and she was able to read the words printed.

Dear Haruno-san,

I'm deeply saddened and appalled to inform you that your child has had the nerve to crush my son's tender and fragile heart. I'll be wanting a heartfelt form of apology towards my son Naruto no later than tomorrow.

"He wrote a note?" Sakura asked in disbelief.

"What difference does it make?" Mebuki asked with narrowed eyes. "Did you actually ask out the Hokage's son and then have the nerve to stand him up?!"

Sakura did not hear the question though. Her mind kept fixating on one detail, "He…wrote…a note," this one detail kept replaying through Sakura's mind allowing her to tune out her Mother's lecture as she ranted on how inappropriate her daughters actions were to poor Naruto. Reading over the letter once more Sakura suddenly jumped up, pushing her mother from the room and slamming the door in her face.

Sakura was nervous now and began to panic.

Her, Naruto and Sasuke were all partners for the exams.

What was she going to do?

"Just. . .play it cool. Act like nothing happened." She told herself in the mirror. Then she sighed, knowing perfectly well what she did was wrong. Then taking in a deep breath she knew she had to apologize to Naruto atleast. Who knows, he might even help her hook up with Sasuke.

"Naruto?" Sasuke knocked on Naruto's door. "Are you there?"

"Yeah, the door's unlocked." Naruto called in his raspy voice to his brother. Sasuke let himself in and instantly felt a million times worse seeing Naruto's bloodshot eyes, it was as if he were crying all night. Sasuke cleared his throat, shutting the door softly and leaning against it.

""Are you feeling okay, Naruto?" Sasuke asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Naruto wiped a tear away, so Sasuke knew that was bullshit.

Then he gulped. "Naruto, I want to talk to you, about last night."

"Last night? What happened last night?" Naruto asked, slightly surprised. He and Sasuke didn't even see each other last night.

"About you and Sakura." Sasuke said. Naruto narrowed his eyes.

"What about her?" His tone was a bit harsh and Sasuke knew this was a bad idea.

"Well. . . .I know why she. . . ditched you." The raven admitted. Naruto sat on his bed, waiting for an answer and Sasuke could feel guilt and pain rumbled in his stomach. Naruto and he were practically brothers, they were so close. Poor Sasuke felt he would ruin their brother-relationship by spouting out what he was about to. Sasuke sighed and everything pretty came out at once.

"She was with me."

There was a dead silence.

". . .What?" Naruto asked.

"I didn't know she was going to meet you, I went to the fair originally to meet up with you-"

FLASHBACK.

"Sasuke, it's such a nice night out. Don't you want to go to the festival?" Minato asked his adoptive son, Sasuke had just returned from training and was at the table reading with his blonde-father. Sasuke shook his head no. He hadn't been to a festival since he was four with his brother.

"Nah, they're not my thing."

"But you'll have fun, and it's a chance to get out. All you ever do is train and practice, it's worrying me." Minato said. Sasuke sighed, smiling and getting up from the chair.

"Alright, I'll go. Is Naruto there?" He asked.

Minato nodded. "I'm sure he's there by now, he just left ten mintues ago. He's so excited, he's got a date with- Um." Minato looked confused and Sasuke laughed.

"I'm sure she's very pretty, Mina-kun." Sasuke said, stretching his back. "Alright, I'll get dressed."

"be home by eleven, please." Minato smiled sweetly.

"Alright." Sasuke smiled, leaving to change clothes.

FLASHBACK DONE

"As soon as I got there, I immedatly went looking for you-"

FLASHBACK

Sasuke looked among the faces in the crowds, not one of them was a spiky-haired teenager with whiskers. He groaned, finding this a total waste of time. Until he spotted pink hair.

"Sakura?" He called out.

Sakura gasped.

"S-Sasuke!?" She turned. "What are you doing here?" She smiled, walking swiftly to him.

"Oh, Kakashi Sensei told me to take a break and I remembered there was a carnival here tonight." Sasuke replied, looking around for Naruto still. When he couldn't find him, he sighed, he had nothing else better to do and Sakura was a friend and they were at a carnival.

"Oh, well, that's good you came" Sakura smiled.

Sasuke nodded. "You're not doing anything, right?"

"N-no!" she, blushed and smiled as she held out her hand and Sasuke politely took it, both of them walked to the carnival.

FLASHBACK DONE.

"Naruto. . .I'm so sorry." Sasuke said, seeing Naruto's face riddled with pain and confusion really did made the boy younger. As if he were a kid being told Christmas was canceled. Then he lowered his head, and it was quiet again in the room.

"Sasuke, please go." He whispered.

"But, Naruto I-" Sasuke wanted to apologize, to make amends with Naruto, but Naruto's head rose and tears fell from his blind eyes.

"I said leave! NOW!" The blonde cried, and Sasuke backed off. Shutting the door softly. Sasuke felt his heart break hearing Naruto's cries of anger. And Naruto himself wasn't feeling too hot knowing the full truth as to what Sakura did to him. He felt horrible. And ugly. Oh, he felt very ugly. He felt his face and he could feel the strings of whiskers and he gulped. No human should have whiskers, but since he was bestowed the Kyuubi, he guessed it was a side-effect, and one that made him ugly.

"I'm hideous." He whimpered.

Slowly he pulled the kunai his father gave him on his birthday, the one he kept in his desk next to his bed.

He felt the outlines of the sharpened-edge kunai. He felt blissful tears run down his face and soon a sting came from his wrist as the kunai was quickly jabbed into his skin. Naruto made the cut deep and painful. But still, this pain was numbing the pain he kept in his heart. It wasn't just Sakura, but something much, much deeper.

It was eating away at him and he knew it.

"I won't tell anyone." He muttered to himself as he used a pillow case to wipe up any blood stains on the floor and pulled down his shirt sleeve.

He had to hide the evidence, so he stuck the kunai in his back pocket.

He was dead if anyone found out about his dirty little secret.

"Alright, Hokage-sama. Everything is ready." an ANBU Mousmasked man said to Minato. Minato smiled kindly.

"Thank you, you're dismissed." Minato was in his office at home and Mouse left threw a window. The man stood up and sighed. Everything was ready for the Exams and he had no idea what to do with his son.

He tried talking to him but he was ignored, he even tried to bribe the boy but Naruto was smart and didn't catch onto the bait.

"Naruto." Minato sighed. He glanced at a picture of Kushina he kept on his desk.

"Kushina, if only you were here. You'd know what to do." Minato smiled softly. "You and I both know I wasn't that good with kids."

He smiled on a memory he recalled when Kushina and he were only in their teens babysitting little Obito, Rin and Kakashi. Poor Minato couldn't make them stop crying when his life depended on it, but Kushina knew just was to do or say. She was pretty much born with a mother's touch only a female could give off. But for Minato, just being a single parent made him take over both father AND mother rolls, which escalated him to being over-protective.

It was hard, being Father and Mother.

On top of everything, he also had Sasuke to parent.

So it wasn't for one child, but two as well.

Still, he tried his best and he wasn't about to give up, and he left his office, but accidentally bumped into Naruto on the way out.

"Omph, oh, Naruto I'm sorry I didn't see you there." Minato smiled kindly, Naruto shuttered away from Minato's touch and nearly hit the wall. Minato grew confused.

"Naruto?"

"I-uh-have to go." Naruto said, quickly, nearly running down the hall away from his father, hiding his left arm.

Minato raised his eyebrow. That was weird. Still, he made a mental note to keep an extra-sharp eye on him. Nothing was going to fly past him now.

Phew! Finally, this chapter is done! How was it? and I apologize for the length it was, but OMG Naruto is cutting himself?! oh what will Poor Minato do when he finds out about his son? And Sasuke, what's he to do and Sakura as well. What will happen in the Chunin exams?! It's all in the next chapter of He See's Darkness But Smiles Like The Light
