Chapter 2

I woke up that morning and got all dressed and ready for school, and then headed downstairs for breakfast. I was used to eating alone in the morning, but for some strange reason, my parents were down there. I sighed when I saw them, but I just ignored them and grabbed the milk from the fridge and poured it into the bowl. Fixing up my cereal, I sat at the table.

I was actually excited to leave for school, because Jacob could give me some of his cigarettes or something. I've been separated from my beer and cigarettes too long! I finished eating, and then started to head to the door.

"Toby," my dad said sternly, "get back here now. You are not to leave until that Spencer girl comes and picks you up. She's walking you to school every morning from now on, and she will tell me if you disobey and leave without her. Got it?"

"Yeah, whatever, Dad," I said, rolling my eyes.

Fuck this! I couldn't get any damn weed, cigarettes, or beer from Jacob if that prissy chick followed me to school every day. If I didn't get busted that day, I wouldn't have been in this god damn mess!

The doorbell rang, and I knew the chick was at the door. She would probably bust me for having my shoes untied or something. My dad went to open the door, smiling when he saw her.

"Hi, sweetheart!" Dad exclaimed like he had known her forever. "Thank you so much for coming. Toby, grab your bag and get going. Don't be late."

"Yeah, whatever," I said stiffly, rolling my eyes and grabbing my backpack before walking out the door with the girl.

"Okay, you've had like this glare on your face since we got out here," Spencer said, sighing. "What is with you?"

"I don't wanna be here, I wanna be smokin' with my buddies and getting girls!" I yelled, folding my arms. "I don't need a babysitter to walk me back and forth if I wanna go anywhere. Where's my freedom?"

"You lost it when you fucked up," Spencer said, smirking.

I grinned and said, "Whoa there, Hastings. I've never seen you talk like that."

"Guess you don't know me at all," she said, shrugging. "Anyways, do you think smoking your stupid cigarettes makes you look cool? It doesn't. It makes you look like a freaking low life! Your parents are making me watch you like a hawk because they know you'll do stupid things like smoke if I don't. All you're doing by using these drugs and crap is killing yourself."

"We're all gonna die one day, anyways," I said, shrugging like I didn't care.

"Toby," she said my name in a warning tone.

"You'll be screaming my name in bed instead of saying it out here when I'm done with you."

She scoffed and asked, "Did you actually just try to flirt with me right now?"

"Maybe, maybe not," I answered, grinning at her. "I'd like to see a good girl in bed. It could be a whole different side of you, babe."

She raised her eyebrows and said, "I'm not going to be treated like that, Toby. You're going to have to try a lot harder if you want any girl to ever like you for real. Besides, I have a boyfriend, so I don't want anything to do with your sleaze bag ways."

"Yeah, but I wasn't asking for a relationship," I said, smirking at her. "I don't want girls to like me. I was going for the sex."

She ignored me completely, but I could see her rolling her eyes. Okay, maybe what I said was a bit (extremely) douchey, but whatever! I knew she wasn't gonna give in. She made it clear that she has her weirdo boyfriend the day before. I just thought that flirting with her would make this a little more fun, and maybe bring out a different side of her. A more playful, less uptight one...

"We're at school now, you can leave me alone," I said coldly, starting to walk away from her, but she grabbed my arm.

"No way, I know you're going to go break the rules as soon as you leave!" Spencer cried.

"So what, you're like my real babysitter now?" I asked, annoyed. "You're just gonna follow me around all day like a dog, making sure I don't do bad shit?"

"Yeah, I am," she responded.

"How about I promise you I won't do bad stuff, and you leave me alone?" I offered.

"You and I both know you're going to break that promise immediately or soon," Spencer said, folding her arms. "I'm not going to meddle in your life drama as long as it doesn't involve stuff like drugs, Toby! That's all I'm asking, and that's all your parents want. For you to be a good kid..."

Then why do they always fucking ignore me and act like I don't exist? My dad's so obsessed with his stupid new family, and his stupid new wife! I hate that lady. He shouldn't have ever married that woman. No matter how many times my dad told me that she was my mom now, I wouldn't go with it. I knew in my heart that she wasn't.

"Hi, princess! You didn't return any of my calls last night. What's up with that? I was worried, so I was going to call your mother."

Her mother? That kid couldn't get any lamer! I was assuming that the geek-ass was her boyfriend. I should have figured that she would have a loser boyfriend. He would be attractive if his personality wasn't so shitty, not that mine was any better. His was so weird, though! Calling her mom because she didn't answer her phone? I mean, come on! Was he her boyfriend or her dad?

"No, Andrew, I had a lot of stuff to deal with—" Spencer began.

"Who are you?" Andrew demanded.

"Toby Cavanaugh, and I've been screwing your girl twice a week."

"Spencer!" Andrew cried, even though she was desperately trying to stop him with her hands. "I thought we were both a part of the Real Love Waits Club! You broke the promise? And you cheated on me with him—"

"Andrew, he's kidding!" Spencer stopped him. "I didn't break anything, and I didn't cheat on you. He is just this idiot who I have to babysit because he thinks he's a bad ass and got in trouble with Mommy and Daddy."

"Shut up!" I yelled.

"Maybe you should have thought a little more before telling my boyfriend some stupid lie about you and I," she snapped, turning back to face Andrew.

"Listen, freak," Andrew said, stepping closer to me. "If you don't shut up and back off of my girlfriend, I'll... I'll..."

"You'll what? Kiss me?" I joked, grinning at him. "Sorry, dude, but I'm straight, and I'm not into you like that, anyways. Calm yourself. Oh, and if you threaten me again, I'll fuck you up, so why don't you back off?"

Andrew shook his head and said, "This is a shame that they paired such a wonderful girl like Spencer up with an idiot like you. I'm going to get out of here. Sweetie, call me when you're not babysitting the spawn of Satan."

"What is your problem?" Spencer asked. "You need to stop cursing so much, and start treating people with more respect!"

"I can treat people with respect, just not when they're people like him!" I cried.

"He is my boyfriend, Toby," she stated angrily.

"He's not very manly," I said, shrugging my shoulders. "Besides, he hasn't even taken your virginity, and you've been going out for a while? That's pathetic."

"Love isn't about sex," Spencer told me. "We choose to wait because we want to."

"No, because you don't love him back," I said, smirking. "You're waiting because you don't trust him. If you're dating somebody and you really love them and trust them, sex shouldn't even be a fear if you really believe they're the one for you."

"Look, no offense, but you don't know how I feel about him!" she snapped. "Besides, what do you know? You have emotionless sex with women, and you have never been in love. You know nothing about me."

"And you know nothing about me!" I cried.

"Then why don't we just stop making judgments about each other?" Spencer asked.

"Because it's fun to piss you off," I said with a smirk.
