Idea: Jiraiya is going through his pack as he gets ready to leave the village, at the bottom, almost forgotten, he finds a plush toad and a book and remembers.

Summary: When Jiraiya finds a certain book and a toy that he's too old for, he remembers fondly his charge, his family.

Jiraiya grumbled as he dug through his pack, "I can't believe there's so much junk in here…" A lot of it wasn't even necessary for his job as Spy Master for Sarutobi-sensei! Finally, he dumped the contents onto his bed in frustration, making a mess as he did so.

Some of the things that were in his pack he didn't need but couldn't bear to part with, He picked up several scrolls, "…Minato's Taijutsu Style, Kushina-hime's Taijutsu Style…" some things he was hanging onto because he would need them, "Hiraishin instructions, Rasengan instructions…" He'd need those to teach…

Jiraiya blinked when he came across a book, "…Hm… Gutsy Ninja… I haven't thought about this old thing in forever…"

Found Memory: Jiraiya

"So, did you like it?" he asked eagerly, Jiraiya pinned his gaze on his student, the young Hokage, Namikaze Minato, "It was my first book."

Minato picked up the book that he had just set down, "I think it's my new favorite book Sensei," the young soon-so-be-father looked at the man he considered to be a father figure over the top of the book with a grin, "It was like reading about your life, and, I've come to a decision."

"What's that Minato?" Jiraiya asked.

Minato grinned, "I've, we've decided, that we want to name our first child after the main character, Naruto."

"But, that makes me his Godfather," Jiraiya gave him a worried look, "Are you sure you want that?"

"There is no better!" Kushina exclaimed from the doorway.

Kushina-hime…" Jiraiya breathed, staring at his student's very pregnant wife.

Minato turned and smiled up at her, "Kushina-hime is right Sensei; there is no one else we'd rather have as his official guardian should anything happen to us. Kakashi-kit has already agreed to look after him in the case something does go wrong on the Tenth when you have to be out of the village."

Found Memory: Jiraiya

Jiraiya closed the book with a painful, but fond smile, "I'll have to get this to Kakashi before I leave, he could use it as a bedtime story for Naruto-chan, and this is Minato's copy…" He turned to the first blank page at the beginning of the book, "Hmm…"

Dear Naruto,

This was your father's copy; take good care of it kiddo.

Your Godfather,

Jiraiya smiled as he signed the note with a flourish, knowing that Minato would have wanted Naruto to have the book. He stood; "Now I just have to find that kid…" he chuckled, knowing that finding Kakashi would be easy.

Looking down at the bed he blinked, "Why do I have this thing?" he asked himself as he picked up the soft Toad plush doll that had been under the book, "Where the heck did I get this and why…?" His eyes widened as another memory resurfaced in his mind.

Jiraiya looked around the half set up nursery curiously, "So this is Naruto's room?" he asked, his eyes landing on the silver fox plush and the plush of the Uzu's Legendary Dragon, "What are those for?"

Minato smiled fondly as he picked up the fox, "This is my gift to Naruto, though a plush toy is a poor substitute for his Fox Partner to cuddle with," he put the toy down, brushing the silvery fur as he thought, "The Fox Contract is kept in the Clan Vault Safe, for safe keeping, and there it will stay until he is ready to sign it when he enters the Academy at age six as I did."

"And the other," Jiraiya asked, his curiosity peaked.

"That one is from me!" Kushina said from behind them, "That dragon is a part of Uzushio's history, he'll need to know where he comes from, plus it gives him something to cuddle with if he can't find his fox," she leaned against the doorway, "It's also an aide for telling the story of the origins of our clans."

Minato nodded, bringing his sensei's attention back to himself, "That too, we'll be taking Kakashi to find something soon, you should do the same," the Yondaime smiled, "I suggest you pick something you associate yourself with, like a toad, I could have done that, since I also associate myself with them somewhat, but I'm a Fox at heart Sensei."

A week later, Jiraiya had found himself in a toy store, looking for something to give to his godson when he was born. He somehow managed to find a scale plush of Gamabunta, the Toad Boss. He'd stared first in surprise then contemplation, before carefully lifting the toy from the shelf and going to buy the thing. He'd gotten a few raised eyebrows over the toy, but he hadn't cared one bit.

"…I'd better go find Kakashi so he can give this Gamabunta plush to Naruto-chan as well," Jiraiya smiled, "He's taking his role as older brother surprisingly seriously, I wouldn't want to be the bastard who tries to assassinate that kid on Ka-Inu-san's watch…"

He chuckled as he left his apartment in search of his Late Student's adopted son, to pass on the gifts. That's right; Kakashi was an ANBU now wasn't he? Hopefully he'd be in the village…
