Chapter 15

A/N-We're getting down to the wire here. Just a few more chapters are left. I'm thinking of starting some Madison/Steve one-shots to tide you guys over until Winter Soldier comes out on DVD.
The next morning, Madison woke up in her bed at Stark tower. She left her bedroom and went into the main room. She noticed that Stark had the living room redone since the Battle of Manhattan. She went to the coffee machine and turned it on.
The tower was silent, so she assumed that everyone was still sleeping.
"JARVIS, please turn on E!", she said.
"Right away Miss Barton", he said.
The TV clicked on.
"Last night, Tony Stark threw a gala for the Avengers last night. Everyone except the God of Thunder was in attendance. Tony Stark was seen with his long time girlfriend and assistant Pepper Potts. There is still no word on when the billionaire will propose. The superhero team known as Hawkeye and Black Widow were seen together, but we don't have any more details on them. Steve Rogers was seen with a young brunette. The same one cameras caught him kissing in the streets during the Manhattan incident. Who is this mystery girl? Hawkeye was even seen dancing with her at the gala. Is there a love triangle between the three?" the woman asked.
"JARVIS, turn it off", she said. She growled and poured herself some coffee.
"I'm guessing you saw the news this morning?" her father asked entering the room.
"Unfortunately", she said.
Steve entered the room, completely dressed.
"Going somewhere?" Madison asked him.
"Fury called and said he wanted to see me".
"Want me to come along?" she asked him.
"Fury wanted to see me alone", he told her.
Madison pouted and said, "Fine".
Steve leaned down and kissed her before leaving.
Steve walked into Fury's office.
"Cap, please take a seat", he said.
Now Steve was starting to get suspicious. "I'd rather stand, sir", he said.
"I suggest you sit down", Fury said.
Steve did as he was told.
"As you know, because of the Tesseract, the S.H.E.I.L.D. base was destroyed. After talking with our nation's government, they have decided that HQ should be moved to our nation's capital", Fury said.
"I fail to see how this pertains to me", Steve said.
"I would like you to move to DC. We need someone like you with us", he said.
Steve leaned back in his chair and sighed. He'd lived in New York his whole life.
Madison was here.
"It will take a few months to build it, but I would suggest that you start packing up your life and tying off loose ends", Fury said, "I would also suggest you think about this".
"What about Madison?" Steve asked him.
"What about her?" Fury said, "I know that you two are in a relationship, but Miss Barton is no longer an agent for S.H.E.I.L.D. This is why I frequently advise that two agents not get involved".
Steve left Fury's office contemplating how to break the news to Madison.
