"Hey…Good morning," Andy said, smiling down at Sharon's smile and closed eyes and the small moan that expressed her contentment at being wrapped in his arms, his lips smiling against hers. She opened her eyes and contemplated his gaze. "Slept well?" he asked fondly, his gaze searching.
"Mmm-hmm." She nodded imperceptibly and caressed his cheek, lingering on it and looking into his eyes. Andy leaned over as he held her on his side while she lay on her back. "And you?" she returned softly.
"Well, actually…I didn't quite sleep." Andy frowned, causing Sharon to look at him with a questioning gaze. "I couldn't stop looking at you here, sleeping in my arms," he added, offering her a reassuring smile. "I can't believe this is happening," he said, voice low and filled with emotion. He rocked her slightly as he talked before pilling her deeper into him, plunging his face into her hair and neck, his nose brushing her earlobe. He breathed her scent and pressed his lips to her skin, causing Sharon to gently stretch her neck, offering him better access. As he pulled away, she crossed her forearms behind his neck and put her hands on his shoulders.
"I'm not used to being looked at the way you look at me Andy." She blushed, holding on to him tightly as her body fought her natural instinct for awkwardness and begged him to hold her.
"I know, Sharon," he smiled, shaking his head with raised brows, "but you'll soon grow accustomed." He grinned, "Though I find you irresistible when awkward or blushing," he said thickly.
"Oh, you do?" she asked with surprise and amusement.
"Mmm-hmmm," Andy nodded as he frowned slightly, eyes narrowing, "Well, actually there is nothing I find resistible about you," he said breathily as he leaned over her and kissed her lips sensually, cupping her head as his fingers entwined in her hair. Sharon pulled him down on top of her, his chest against hers. Andy kissed her senseless, intoxicated by their intimacy as he tasted her lips and Sharon ran her fingers through his hair, returning his kiss passionately. Andy caressed the slope of her neck, moving along her chest and skimming her waist and hip, his hand devouring her warm, tempting flesh under the thin fabric of her nightgown with intensity and devotion. He didn't dare to touch her more intimately, despite wanting to show her exactly how much he wanted and needed to make love to her. It was too early, and he knew that he would feel it when she was ready. Sharon suddenly but gently pushed him away and sat up, panting.
"It's not only the rules, Andy," she shook her head, "and it's not you..." she sighed. "I can't."
Andy felt his heart sink. He sat up, hoping that he would be able to calm the brewing storm within her, listening raptly to her.
"Sharon," he whispered looking at her numbly and waiting for her to continue as she shook her head and stared at her knees. "Sharon," he said, taking her hands in his. She turned to look at their hands, his large with a fine down of silvery-white hair and hers ivory with light marks, tiny in his hands. "Talk to me – tell me what you can't do," said Andy, tilting his head downwards to meet her eyes.
She looked up at him before replying, "Allow myself to - to need you," she breathed, her voice breaking. "I can't lose my balance and independence," she continued, trying to make her voice steadier. Sharon was frustrated with the constant fluctuation of emotions she experienced. It was not panic and she was glad to be there with Andy, yet she couldn't help feeling scared by her reactions and the whirlwind of sensations that hit her. She was not used to losing control, especially over herself.
"Sharon, you just need to get used to this- totally new…situation" Andy said daringly, hoping that he didn't sound arrogant or blunt. He was unused to such emotion and sensitive vulnerability from her. Although he loved this side of her as much, he found it far more challenging to deal with her, unsure of how she would react and afraid of scaring her away. He was almost too uneasy to soothe her.
"And what will happen, then, if I don't manage to get used - I know it's already too late, I've changed. I can barely recognize myself! I can't be without you but I don't want to fall for you. I just feel like I'm being swallowed up by all of this and I need to control this, me."
"I'm here to help you, Sharon. You can talk to me and we can find a balance in our relationship so that you can find yours," he smiled at her and she nodded, curving her lips slightly. "Sharon, I know you are an independent woman and that's something that'll never change. You're not used to…" being loved Andy thought, "someone wanting to care for you," he said simply and sincerely. "C'mon, Sharon, you've been a mother - a single mother of two - for a life time! Of three, if we count Jack," he rolled his eyes and raised his brows whilst returning his eyes to hers. "You've worked for FID –and we both know that was a headache – then Major Crimes with Rusty on top of all that…how long have you been a mother – someone's caretaker and guardian – now? When was the last time someone asked how your day was or how you're doing?" His voice took on a high pitch and Sharon listened to him attentively. She didn't know - didn't expect –that others would be interested in what she felt. The realization that Andy was telling the truth hit her suddenly and her brows rose as her lips parted in surprise. Was everything she had felt just a matter of becoming accustomed to him taking care of her? Was it that life was finally returning all that she had given? She smiled and took his hands in hers, squeezing them. "And now, to teach you how to...become accustomed." Andy grinned, shaping his voice in a low intriguing tone as he tilted his head slightly, "We'll have our first lesson -" he wagged his brows as he leaned over her and Sharon smiled as she lay on her back.
"Oh, first?" she asked with a sultry giggle and he stopped his ministrations, looking puzzled and intrigued. "I thought we had our first lesson on the beach and," she raised her brows, shrugging, "our second at your apartment, so…" She giggled breathily at the sight of Andy's moving brows and wide grin.
"Yeah, you're right," he breathed in a raspy voice, "we have a very accurate and talented girl here..." She smiled then pressed her lips together and tilted her chin up. "And we can't forget when we kissed against my car -" Her hair draped across the pillow as she arched her neck to offer him her lips. "So really, this is our fourth lesson..." he breathed against her lips, his chest flush against her as his had ran through her hair, "and since you passed my preliminary test…" he captured her lips.
"Oh, did I?" she interrupted as her eyes widened and her hands reached for his neck, sliding to his nape and running her fingers through his hair.
"Yeah, y'know...showing your interest and attentiveness to...the, uh, subject," he whispered "you deserve a prize," he murmured, his lips brushing her lips with his as he gazed into her eyes. Sharon smiled and allowed him full access to her lips. Andy felt his pants tighten somewhat around his groin and was mortified – he wanted to control himself with Sharon but couldn't help it. Sharon hands were now roaming his back and Andy was desperately fighting to keep his lower body on the mattress to avoid contact with Sharon. Then Sharon let out a soft, breathy moan in his ear as his lips brushed along the column of her neck. She put her hands on his hips as Andy directed his attention further down and concentrated his lips on her cleavage. He felt Sharon's skin against his lips, yearning but anxious.
"Andy," she breathed, causing him to stop and look up at her. Her eyes were darkened with arousal yet alarmed and he knew that they had moved far too quickly once again.
"Sharon - I'm sorry," he panted with a gentle frown and she nodded, trying to control her breath. He gathered all his strength to bring himself to stop what he had been doing. He rolled aside and sat on the edge of the bed, looking at her. She smiled shyly and raised her brows, surprised. He shook his head repeatedly with a smile, enjoying her expression.
Sharon sat up, "You are the first man I've slept with – in the same bed – since Jack," she said sincerely, surprised at her revelation yet looking glad.
Andy pursed his lips, his brows raised and eyes wide, "Do you - you mean-" Andy was stunned and uncertain how proper it would be to finish that question.
"What, Andy?" she muffled a giggle at his stunned expression before continuing honestly and somewhat awkwardly, "Does it sound that odd? I was a married woman and I took my vows seriously," she blushed.
Andy felt idiotic, "Oh, Sharon." He crawled towards her, kneeling beside her body, "Do you know what is odd? Not odd, insane actually?" she shook her head, "That Jack wasn't able to cherish the treasure he had in you!" Andy said with vehemence. "I admire you for the way you've lived – for being the woman and mother you've been and for who you are now," he continued sincerely, lifting her hair from her jaw and tucking it behind her ear. He bent over her and kissed her tenderly lingering on her cheek, cupping her face, "I'm so sorry for - for all you had to face by yourself and didn't deserve." Andy spread his knees and pulled her into him, her head onto his chest, "You deserve to be loved more than any other person I know and I'm here to give you my love if you'd give me the honor," she looked up at him smiling softly, "and what I find odd is that you who are so beautiful, bright, sensitive and sensible, so tender and sweet, generous and loving," he looked at her fondly as he listed her attributes, "classy, gorgeous and sexy." his voice lowered "Oh yes, so sexy," he nodded in whisper, his gaze searching her bewildered expression, "attractive, hot and yet so gracious." She blushed, shaking her head awkwardly, a smile lighting her features as she looked away from him. "You," he lifted her chin with his fingertips to make her look back at him, "you allowed me to be the first man you ever let kiss you and sleep with you."
She smiled, "I didn't." she said softly, watching Andy's expression become puzzled, "Andy I didn't let you to kiss me and sleep with me," Andy looked completely lost now, "I wanted you to kiss me and I wanted you to sleep with me here in my bed, and I wanted you because you are the first and only man who was worth it." she said, her eyes intense as they held his. She swallowed hard, searching his face. Andy was totally taken aback and, looking into her eyes, her words stirred something in him. He cupped her cheeks, touching her as if to prove himself. She really was there - in front of him - telling him she trusted and chose him. He kissed her face, pulling away with each kiss to truly check that she was still there, his eyes open as he memorized each detail of her breath and gaze - each and every imperceptible shift.
After a shower and breakfast on the balcony at what was actually lunch time, Andy tousled his still-wet hair with a towel as Sharon sat on the armrest of her couch, watching him. He smiled fondly at her then threw the towel over his shoulder and reached for her, pulling her to her feet and smiling sweetly. His eyes, two dark, sparkling splints fixed her jade oceans in his gaze, "I've gotta go and change my clothes." She nodded in understanding. "I'll be right back, ok?"
"Take your time." She drew nearer, kissed the corner of his lips and pulled back slightly, blushing. Andy's smile widened, endeared by the sight of her blushing. Sharon wrapped her arms around her, "I'm going to have a shower too, then."
He raised his eyebrows naughtily and a boyish grin lit his face, "Is that an invitation?"
She looked abashed and he shook his head with a smile as she giggled and slapped his chest gently. Andy drew closer and took her hands in his, kissing her forehead before walking backwards slowly, letting go of her hands as he pulled away towards the door. He glanced at the door right behind him and opened it, his eyes returning to hers as he blew her a kiss and she smiled, biting her lower lip.
"Andy!" she called as he was leaving, causing him to step back, his back arching slightly to peer in and look at her, "you could bring a couple of changes," he looked at her quizzically, unsure if he had understood "for tomorrow and maybe Monday...if you'd like." Andy's eyes widened - he had understood - Sharon was asking him to remain for the whole weekend.
"Sure," he shrugged, nodding repeatedly and feeling his neck and face coloring with emotion, "and my PJs and toothbrush too," he smiled happily and she nodded and smiled back, relieved that it felt good and right.
Sharon rushed to her apartment door as she pulled up the zip of her skirt, elbows bent and pointing backward. She straightened its fabric and quickly shook out her hair before opening the door with a smile. Her jaw dropped in horror.
"Well, you were obviously expecting someone else and not at all glad it's me." Jack pursed his lips, looking her over from her bare feet and legs to her wavy auburn hair. Sharon was stunned, and seeing Jack she told herself that she should call Andy before he arrived. "May I come in?"
Sharon had to recover quickly, "Jack, it's not the right time now. I'm sorry, I-"
"I should probably have called you before but I'm in town and I was wondering what my gorgeous ex-wife was doing."
"Well,'' she ignored his compliment, "actually I'm very busy at the moment and I really have to ask you to leave, I don't mean to be rude..." she breathed hard trying to keep her voice steady but kind and look resolved. She saw her shaking hand reaching for the door to close it.
"My mistake, I'll call you then and... Sharon, I just want to talk to you." Jack said, his voice and stare were honest and sincere and this alarmed her, but right now, she had to get rid of him before Andy's return and time was against her.
"Ok." she breathed, forcing a smile "Good-bye, Jack."
"Good-bye, Sharon." He walked down the corridor and reached the elevator, pressing the button. She watched him, needing to be present in case Andy arrived – it wasn't over yet. The elevator doors opened Jack entered and turned to mouth 'I'll call you' whilst mimicking talking on a phone and she nodded once the elevator doors closed. Sharon stepped back into her apartment, shut the door and leaned her side on it, her body relaxed against it and a hand still on the handle with the other spread on the door to keep it firmly shut. She let out a deep breath, leaning her back against the door, and tilted her chin up to look at the ceiling. Was she going to tell Andy about Jack's visit? Jack looked different and she didn't know why exactly she felt uneasy about it. She only knew Jack could not discover about Andy and her yet. It was too early, she and Andy had only just started - they weren't even in a relationship yet! Jack was her ex-husband and she owned him no explanations. So then, why did she feel so weird? Sharon was afraid of Jack's reaction, if he discovered she was seeing Andy, he could report it to Taylor. She was also concerned about how Andy might react and wanted to protect him.
Sharon started and turned to look into the peephole - it was Andy. She opened the door hurriedly, her eyes wide, brow furrowed. Andy's happy expression soon became alarmed at the sight of her. He stepped in as Sharon closed the door behind him and spun on his heel to get a better look at her. Sharon turned and plunged into him, throwing her arms around his neck and causing him to drop his bag on the floor and hug her.
"Andy, hold me, hold me tight – please," she said softly, her voice laden with discomfort.
"Sharon-" he started in a breathy voice, fulfilling her need as his arms wrapped around her. He let out a breath and squeezed her body against his, lifting her up and causing her to rise to the tips of her toes. He smelled her hair tickling his jaw and chin, her face buried in his neck, voice muffled. Her lips and breath moved against his skin, "Andy, hold me." He smiled, puzzled. He gently pulled away from her.
"Hey, Sharon, I was away for," he looked at his watch, "one hour actually, did you miss me that much?" he asked, attempting to ease her burden as he grinned jokingly.
Sharon curved her lips; shaking her head in a frown, "Jack." she said, watching his expression become serious. "He came here."
Andy nodded his head, resigned, "Yeah, I know."
Sharon looked at him, bewildered, "You know?" she asked, her voice thin and metallic.
"We met outside." Andy rubbed her back.
"Oh my God-" she pulled away, a hand on her stomach and the other in her hair as she stared at the floor. "Sharon-"
"What did Jack say?"
"He greeted me and asked what I was doing here." Andy answered calmly. Sharon looked up at Andy, her eyes laden with fear but needing him to continue. "I told him I was bringing this to you," he added, pointing at the bag onto the ground and Sharon nodded, "which technically isn't a lie and doesn't give us away." Andy added in a matter-of-fact tone as he grinned to reassure her.
"And what did Jack say then?"
"He said we'd probably meet again." Andy breathed, rolling his eyes. Then before Sharon could say anything he cupped her cheeks and murmured, "We need to talk."
Sharon looked at him with concern but nodded. Andy took her hand and led them to the couch. She sat down and on her heels, hands folded in her lap with her back to the armrest and window. He sat with one leg curled beneath him and the other stretched in front of him.
"We both knew it was a matter of time, that he'd return, Sharon."
"Yeah, but not so soon - not now, now we're divorced-"
"Exactly, you're divorced!"
"Andy, it's different this time - he's different."
"What do you mean?"
"Jack said he wants to talk to me, that he'll call me." Sharon saw Andy close his eyes and purse his lips to control himself.
"And are you going to meet him?" Andy tried desperately to sound neutral.
"I have to..."
"Sure." Andy said, irritated.
"Oh, Andy, he's the father of my children and I will always be linked to him somehow, I can't just ignore him." Sharon explained, taking Andy's hands in hers, eyes begging him to understand.
Andy released the breath he'd been holding, "Sharon, I honestly don't like the idea of you seeing him alone. Look at you, you're already upset." he said in a low calm voice.
"Of course!" she countered, "he just...dropped in on me! I opened the door, expecting to find you-"
Andy smiled sympathetically, before saying, "Ok, listen, Sharon - I met him and I told you, he was here and you told me," Andy continued slowly, "we're talking about it to see how we feel about this and how we're going to deal with this - together. I just want you to know that, whatever you choose to do; I will be with you, regardless." He smiled sincerely and intensely, his gaze piercing. "Hey, I'm your Lieutenant! I'm only eager to protect you from everything -that man included." Andy added. Sharon smiled fondly and caressed his cheek, leaning into him. Andy winked and pressed his cheek into her palm.
"Andy," she said softly and he opened his eyes to look at her, "just for the record," he nodded to encourage her to continue, "you are the only man I want to kiss me and sleep with me." Andy was both taken aback and choked up by Sharon's reassuring directness as she continued, "I'm only afraid of Jack's reaction if he finds out that we're-"
Andy nodded, "In a relationship." he continued.
Sharon drew up, her eyes wide as she gazed into Andy's, brows raised and lips parted. Andy thought that perhaps it had been too soon to use that word, but he felt that that's what this was – a relationship. She knew he loved her and, as her hand cupped his cheek, Sharon recovered from the shock of hearing it for the first time, out loud and as an indisputable fact. She found herself realizing that it was true, and that she was entirely willing to be in a relationship with him. Andy lifted her hand from his cheek and took it to his lips, pressing a kiss on each finger before moving to back and palm of her hand.
"We'll face every situation together," he said softly, smiling at her. Sharon nodded once with a confident smile. "So," Andy said, grinning as he tilted his head to the side, "will you help me unpack?" he indicated his bag with his thumb.
"Of course!" she said, a giggle rising from her throat.
It was six at night and completely obvious that Flynn hadn't simply delivered a bag. Jack couldn't be sure, of course. It was Saturday evening and he knew that Sharon no longer kept regular hours. However, the way she had opened the door, her radiant smile, her demeanor... He may have been an awful husband, but he still had his memories of Sharon offering him that kind of smile, ready to offer herself to him completely.
