A/N: No, this is not an author's note admitting that I am giving up this story. This is actually a chapter. Like, a chapter chapter.
So it's been about.. hmm I don't know, A DAMN YEAR since I've last updated any of my stories. I'm so sorry. I really don't have any valid excuse as to why I've been gone this long. But just understand that high school is harder, I have a job now, and I'm in a committed relationship. Those are horrible excuses to why I haven't found time to write up some chapters, but it's the best I've got.
On a happier note, DAMN. I. MISSED. YOU. GUYS. Don't think that just because I haven't updated, I haven't still been reading all your PM's and reviews. The fact that you guys still even bother leaving me reviews on my stories is amazing. So many of you thought I was sick with a life-threatening disease, which almost made me cry (if you were one of those people, I PM'ed you back right away.) I've realized that you guys aren't just my friends... you're all family. Most of us have never met before, and we're all from different places around the world. But we come together here, in this little SG archive, and we write whatever we want, and we support each other. I don't even know where I'm going with this sappiness but I love you guys to death.
Thank you for your patience.
I seriously, seriously doubt any of you remember what happened in chapter 6. If you need a refresher, just remember that at the end of the last chapter, Puck told Sabrina that he wanted to show her who he "really was", rather than just tell her. He claimed that he couldn't do it at the moment, but she would find out. In your reviews, a lot of you thought Puck was going to reveal that he was an Everafter to Sabrina... or is he? Just keep that in mind for this chapter. ;)
Here you go lovies! Sorry if I'm a little rusty, it's been a while.
~Chapter 7
"Puck... what did you do."
It wasn't a question.
"I don't understand what you're trying to get at."
"Her hair, Puck. Look. At. Her. Hair."
Sabrina was awake. Actually, she had been awake since the moment she heard Madison yell Puck's name in rage. Rather than open her eyes, she chose to feign sleep, curled up in a ball underneath her covers.
"I think it looks pretty cool on her."
A new voice... Jake, maybe? Sarcasm clearly present in his tone.
Something had happened to her hair- that much Sabrina was aware of. The question was, should she jump out of bed in a panic, and run to the mirror to examen herself? Or continue her act of being asleep, and react calmly to the situation?
She chose the latter.
"She's going to kill you Puck, I hope you know that. She's pretty tough." Madison sounded annoyed, yet a hint of amusement could be heard in her tone.
"I never doubted that," Puck said smoothly. "We'll just see what she does when she wakes up."
"Why'd you even do this? What possible satisfaction could you get out of doing this to her hair!?" Madison asked incredulously.
Sabrina inwardly cringed. Her long, blonde hair was one of her most prized possessions.
"Where did you even get that stuff?" Jake asked. "It smells pretty foul."
At that last comment, Sabrina jumped up in bed, putting her hands to her head. Nothing seemed out of place, though her hair was damp... had she showered the night before? Like she had assumed, Jake, Madison, and Puck were standing over her bed.
She looked Puck dead in the eye.
"Before I ask," she began, "you need to understand that I take a lot of pride in my hair. I haven't gotten a hair cut since I was seven. I love my hair. So with that being said... what exactly did you do?"
Jake and Madison stood with wide eyes at her cutting tone. Puck, on the other hand, crossed his arms over his chest.
"I think you'll like what I did to it. It... works for you."
His tone pissed her off. How quickly he could come up with a witty comeback was beyond annoying. He was annoying.
She glared at him a moment longer, before stomping out the bed and pushing past him. She walked out the room, and stormed her way down the hallway, into the bathroom. Once faced with a mirror, Sabrina could do nothing but stare at her reflection in horror. There was no difference in the length of her hair, which was still trailing down her back. It was the color that shocked her. Her usual milky blond hair was now the color of dirt.
Sabrina shrieked, grabbing her hair with both hands. It was wet and slimy. The odor that Jake had mentioned earlier was now reaching her, and she rushed to the turn on a shower.
What had he put in her hair? It was clearly not regular hair dye. Had he put actual dirt in her hair?
"Puck said it'll wash out. Well, kind of."
Sabrina looked up to see Madison standing in the doorway of the bathroom.
She quickly undressed and began rinsing her hair under hot water.
"This is beyond disgusting," she said, watching as the black gook left her hair and swirled down the drain. "What is this stuff?"
"He said he made it himself," Madison replied simply.
Sabrina gave a dry laugh. "That's beyond weird. What, so he goes outside and makes dirt creations to put in my hair? If my hair has any brown in it when I'm out this shower I swear..."
"You must have done something to make him pretty mad. Puck never does that kind of thing. Like, ever."
"Oh yeah?" Sabrina snorted. "I haven't done anything to him. But soon he'll figure out I am not the one to be messed with."
After washing her hair three times, she rinsed the mess out one more time before wrapping a towel around her body and stepping out the shower. She examined her hair in the mirror, and immediately balled her hands into fists at her sides. Though her hair was no longer the color of dirt, she was officially a brunette.
Madison hid a laugh behind her hand. "If it means anything... you're a really pretty brunette."
...
Sabrina was quick to get dressed, as she put on a pair of black running shorts and a grey hoodie, before grabbing her cleats and running across the cool grass to the field. She had tied her now brown hair up into a bun on the top of her head. When she reached the soccer field, almost everyone was present. Puck gave her a smirk as she ran over.
"We're gonna start with a two mile warm up run. Everyone partner up and you can run wherever, as long as it's not too far away from school grounds. Just make sure one of you has a stop watch so you can mark your times! We'll all meet back here after," Puck said to the group.
Everyone nodded as they began to partner up. Before Sabrina could even search for a partner, Puck confronted her.
"Do you like your new hair?"
Sabrina crossed her arms over her chest and looked over her shoulder. "Don't talk to me."
"Ouch," he replied, feigning mock hurt. "You don't like it?"
"What did you even put in my hair?" she asked.
"It's probably best if you don't know that," he replied with a wink. "But it's my own personal recipe. I'm not gonna lie though - I was expecting it to make your hair color come out a little darker."
"Hmm, okay great. And what satisfaction did you get from dying my hair with crap? Is it because I'm the new girl?"
Puck gave her a look of confusion. "No? The other night we were talking. You said you wanted to know who the "real me" was. I told you it would be easier for me to show you then tell you..."
Sabrina scoffed. "So you're... what? A prankster?"
"The prankster. The King of all pranks and mischief. But we won't get into that now," he responded with a wink.
"So I'm trying to decide which Puck I like better: the bossy, annoying soccer captain? Or the bossy, annoying prankster?"
Puck shrugged. "I mean either way, they're both quite a catch."
Sabrina slipped on her sneakers as she looked out onto the soccer field. She hadn't noticed that everyone had already begun to run off with their partner for the warm up.
She froze when she felt Puck twirl a stray piece of her hair around his finger.
"You don't look bad as a brunette though. Not bad at all."
Sabrina's eyes widened and she blushed immensely as she stood up. "Shut the hell up. If you think this is over, just wait. Something's coming when you least expect it."
He gave her a grin. "We'll see. Let's start running, you're taking forever."
"What made you think I was going to run with you?"
Puck looked around. "You don't have any other choice. Plus I'm the captain, so..."
Sabrina stood her ground as she glared at him.
He sighed. "Run with me or you won't be playing in our next game."
Sabrina glowered at him. "See? This is why you're a jerk. You didn't have to threaten me into running with you."
Tucking her arms into her hoodie, Sabrina took off at a fast jog, with Puck quickly at her heels. He passed her a second later and began to sprint across the field.
Sabrina groaned, speeding up to catch up to him. By the time they were running side by side again, they were racing through a wooded area across from the school.
"Where are we going?" Sabrina asked, slightly out of breath. "And why are we running so fast?"
Puck slowed down his pace for her, but only slightly. "Be careful stepping over tree roots."
She sighed loudly, and he snickered in response. Racing to catch up to him, she jumped over tree roots and ran by his side in the soft dirt.
"Why are we sprinting?" she asked. Sabrina was clearly running out of breath.
"I'm only giving you what I know you can handle," he replied simply. He didn't sound even remotely out of breath or tired.
She gave him a suspicious look. "How are you... not tired... at all yet?"
He shrugged. "Years of running?"
"Yeah but... yeah okay."
After completing what Sabrina assumed to be about 2 miles, sprinting the whole time, Puck turned to her.
"You good? You're doing a nice job of keeping up. What did I say about your arms though? Your posture is weak, Grimm."
"I hate you."
"I know."
When they finally emerged from the wooded area, Sabrina stopped running altogether and began walking. To her surprise, rather than yell at her to continue, Puck slowed down and began walking beside her.
"You should be a track runner. You're pretty good."
Sabrina wiped the sweat off her forehead, then glared at Puck, who had barely seemed to break a sweat. He was just too perfect.
"I do run track, but only to get me ready for the soccer season."
Puck nodded. "That's smart. That should help you work on your running form too... As we both know, your's isn't the best."
Sabrina rolled her eyes. "Thanks for being so helpful."
"Hey, sorry. Not everyone can have natural born talent the way I do," Puck said with a shrug.
Sabrina breathed deeply to control her temper. Out of all the things she hated, overly-confident people were on the top of the list.
"You don't have natural born talent moron. You had to have learned it from some where or someone."
Puck looked slightly taken aback by the fact that she was doubting his skills, but quickly recovered.
"My dad used to love soccer. From early on I was taught how to play by some of the best players in the country," he explained.
It didn't go unnoticed by Sabrina that he had spoken of his father in the past tense.
"That's actually really cool. So your dad doesn't like soccer anymore, or...?"
Puck snickered. "I'm sure he'd still love it, that is, if he was alive."
Sabrina eye's widened. "I'm really sorry, it was out of line for me to ask about him."
He shrugged. "Don't be. Everyone finds out sooner or later."
They walked in silence for a few moments before Sabrina asked the dreaded question.
"How did he die?"
"He was murdered." Puck stated simply.
Sabrina stopped walking altogether, her mouth agape. It took Puck a moment later to realize she had stopped moving.
Puck suddenly burst out laughing, and Sabrina gave him an astonished look.
"I'm messing with you. He died of natural causes," he explained.
Sabrina gave a sigh of relief, as she took up her spot beside Puck. "That's a horrible thing to joke about. People are killed everyday for no reason."
"I know!" Puck responded sharply, making Sabrina jump. "I know that."
"Uh, okay.
"Let's start running again," Puck said in a strange tone. "I'm sure everyone's almost back on the field by now."
Sabrina inwardly sighed, as the two began dashing back to the soccer field.
...
By the time they were back on campus, almost all of the players were gathered around, talking or stretching. Puck immediately took charge, and Sabrina fell back next to Nancy.
Nancy gave her a suspicious look as Sabrina approached.
"You and Puck ran together?"
"Yeah," Sabrina said. A moment later, "why?"
Nancy shrugged. "He just usually runs alone during those times."
Sabrina let this new information roll through her mind for a moment, before tuning into what Puck was saying.
"So our second game of the season is coming up in two days," Puck began. "You've all put in a lot of good work so far, but we still have plenty of room for improvement. I've been analyzing all of you as you play, and I'm getting a good idea of your strengths and weaknesses."
He made strong eye contact with Sabrina, before he continued.
"We work well as a group, everyone knows that. But in order to work even better together, we need to focus on the individual first. I'll be spending a lot more time with you guys one-on-one to see what you need to work on. Like usual, Coach Adams is nowhere to be found."
A laugh went up among the group. The coach was known for only being present during actual games- the rest was left up to Puck.
"...And I have plans, so we'll do a quick scrimmage, and that'll be it for practice today," Puck finished.
A cheer went up among the team, as everyone grouped up and got out onto the field. Having a short practice left them all with spare time to do anything they wanted- and they certainly planned on taking advantage of it.
...
Thirty minutes later, Sabrina and Brandyn made their way to the gym, their arms piled with cones, pinnies, and spare soccer balls. Puck had quickly left in the middle of the scrimmage, leaving Brandyn the keys to the gym so he could put away all supplies. Sabrina had offered to help.
"So, it seems like you like this school a lot," Sabrina noted as they walked down the path and away from the field.
Brandyn nodded enthusiastically. "It's a great place. A lot of people don't have the privilege to go to a school like this one, you know?"
Sabrina nodded. "That's true. I guess I never really thought of it like that, since I didn't want to come here in the first place."
"Why did you come then?" he asked in his clear, Jamaican accent.
"My parents made me after I got into too many fights," Sabrina explained hesitantly. "I was expelled."
Brandyn remained quiet for a moment, then burst out in laughter. Sabrina gave him a curious look.
"I'm sorry, I just never pictured you as being the kind of person to be expelled, or get involved in fights."
"Hey," Sabrina said, raising her arms. "In my defense, I never initiated any of the fights. They just kind of...happened."
Brandyn smiled. "I think I understand."
Pulling out the key ring, he unlocked the back door to the gym, where the two of them piled all the soccer equipment in the corner. Locking the door back up, they began walking back to school, when a shiny, black Mercedes Benz pulled up beside them.
A woman rolled down the window. She wore sunglasses and her hair was placed on top of her head in a delicate bun. She looked to be in her mid-thirties. She smelled of car leather and expensive perfume.
"I'm sorry to bother you both", she said in an airy tone. "Have either of you seen Robin?"
Brandyn spoke up. "Robin? I don't think I know anyone named Robin..."
The woman paused for a moment. "Oh! I meant to say Puck. Puck Goodfellow?"
"Yeah, he left soccer practice early. He didn't say where he was going." Sabrina answered.
"Is that so..."
The woman seemed to be studying Sabrina, as Sabrina stared her back, and then finally looked away.
"You look familiar... Have we met before?"
Sabrina looked slightly startled by her question. "Uh, no. Well I don't think so."
The woman nodded. "Very well."
Without another word, she rolled up her window and sped off down the road.
"Who was that lady?" Brandyn asked.
"I was just about to ask you the same question," Sabrina replied.
"Well, she did say she knows you," Brandyn said with a laugh.
"Trust me, I think I would remember meeting someone like that," she responded with a laugh.
...
Later at dinner that evening, the group of soccer players were gathered around the table, talking and laughing. The only one who was absent was Puck, who hadn't been seen since practice earlier that day.
Sabrina was showing the group pictures of her family on her phone, and her heart started to ache. Oh, how she missed seeing them everyday.
"I bet you miss them a lot," Julie said, seemingly reading Sabrina's mind.
Sabrina nodded. "Yeah. I do."
Paris suddenly approached the table, a tray of food in hand.
"So the hot meal for today is meatloaf. Looks more like mystery meat to me," she complained.
Though no one to this day knows exactly what happened next, Paris' tray somehow found itself knocked into Sabrina's hair. Sabrina sat in horror as "mystery meat" made its way down the side of her face.
Everyone at the tables eyes widened. No one said a word as they looked from Sabrina, to Paris, and back again.
"Oh my gosh!" Paris exclaimed. "I am so sorry Sabrina! Here, let me help-"
"It's okay," Sabrina said, suddenly calm. "Don't even worry about it. Just consider us even now."
Paris looked confused. "Even? What do you-"
Sabrina quickly grabbed whatever she could off of a plate- spaghetti, and flung it at Paris' face. Pasta and red sauce smeared in her hair and on her white blouse.
"UGH!" Paris screamed out in rage.
Everyone in the cafeteria by this point was looking at the commotion. No one spoke at first.
Jake suddenly stood up on a table, screaming:
"FOOD FIGHT!"
Everyone in the room laughed hysterically as they began chucking food at one another simultaneously. Was this really happening?
Sabrina quickly grabbed her tray and a bowl of yogurt as she hid under a lunch table for shelter. Others seemed to be doing the same.
Using her lunch tray as a shield, Sabrina began throwing yogurt at Nancy's back, who was busy slapping Jake with a slice of pizza.
Everyone in the cafeteria screamed and laughed as they threw and attempted to dodge the flying foods. Everyone was completely covered in a wide and colorful variety of foods.
Using her tray to block any attempted food bombs thrown at her, Sabrina had managed to stay relatively clean until something cold and slimy hit her dead in her face.
Unable to see for a few seconds, she wiped her face to see that someone had thrown what tasted to be cream pie at her.
Puck was standing directly over her, an empty pie tin in his hand. The pie? All over Sabrina's face.
She laughed loudly as she searched for something to throw at him, meanwhile Puck continued to dodge blows of food with little to no effort at all.
By the time she had found an item of food- a stray meatball- Puck had lifted her up with ease, and was half carrying, half dragging her out of the cafeteria.
"What are you doing?!" Sabrina demanded.
"Getting your dumb ass out of here," he retorted.
Sabrina scoffed, struggling to make him let go of his firm grip on her waist.
"I don't know why. I was having fun. Clearly something you don't know how to do."
Puck stopped for a moment, blinking at her. He shook his head, his grip on her only tightening.
"You're an idiot," he muttered under his breath.
"Get off of me! How are you gonna drag me against my will and then insult me?" Sabrina questioned.
Before she had time to blink, Puck had her up against a locker, one hand on the side of her head, the other hand pinning her wrist to her side. His face was an inch away from hers. His usually bright, green eyes were a shade darker.
"Do you want to get expelled, Sabrina Grimm?"
Her eyes were the size of saucers. "W-what?"
He sighed and rolled his eyes, as if explaining his question was too tedious of a task.
"Do you remember when you first came to this school? You were given a warning by the principle. If you caused any more fights, you'd get expelled."
How does he know about that?
Sabrina almost face-palmed. How could she be so stupid? She was on very thin ice due to the previous... problems she had brought up at her old school. And now she had just caused a food fight? She was sure to get expelled.
"I'm such an idiot," Sabrina groaned. "I just caused a food fight."
"Yes, yes you are an idiot," Puck agreed. "But luckily for you, I'm getting you out of this."
For a moment Sabrina just stood there, staring into his green eyes. He was so close that she could almost count the small freckles on his nose. He looked back at her with an intense gaze that made her shiver. He seemed to be contemplating something.
He cleared his throat. She blushed and turned away.
"Let's go."
Running the rest of the way to her dorm room, Puck pushed her inside.
"Clean yourself up," he demanded, looking at her food-covered uniform. "From this moment on, the story is that you decided to skip lunch tonight. You didn't even realize there was a food fight. Agreed?"
Sabrina nodded, grabbing a towel. "Agreed. But what about everyone else? They're all gonna say I started the fight when they get questioned."
Puck shook his head. "I've got it covered. You're only job is to just keep your mouth shut."
She managed a half grin. "Thanks, Puck. Why are you even helping me in the first place?
He shrugged. "Can't afford to have one of my best players get expelled. You're needed on the team."
Sabrina nodded slowly. "Right. Of course."
