A/n: Aaaah sorry for the extremely late updaaate college is killing meh orz
Well anyway, this chapter is about the girls like I mentioned before. I just realised, the more questions I'm answering, the more unanswered questions I'm creating, so hell let's just go with the flow and not curse me shall we ahahaha~

Chapter 16
Nami poked her head out from behind a crate and scanned the area. Visibility was low thanks to the unrelenting fog that had settled in on the island once again. She wrapped her arms around herself as a chill passed through her. There was a sudden rustle beside her and Nami's yelp was muffled by a gloved hand clamping down on her mouth. Robin raised a finger and signaled to the wide-eyed navigator to remain quiet, as she knelt down and mirrored Nami's position. The two continued to survey the area. After a time, Nami squinted into the darkness and prodded Robin gently, "What is that?"
Robin followed Nami's gaze and spotted the faint glow several meters away. "I'm not sure, the fog is too thick to see. Give me a moment."
Robin crossed her arms and shut her eyes in concentration for several seconds. When she finally opened them, there was hesitation and fear in them.
"Robin, what is it?"
The raven-haired woman shook her head slowly and eyed the dull glow again. "Those are some of the men from the ships. I tried listening in on them and apparently they're still looking for us."
"Amoret-san too?"
Robin nodded, not looking away from the sphere of light that was drawing closer. Nami let out a relieved sigh. "Alright then, let's get out of here and head to where Amoret-san told us to go. Maybe we'll find her there."
Nami glanced at her companion when she didn't get a response and noticed that Robin was clutching the side of the crate in front of her so hard that her knuckled were white. "Robin?" Nami called urgently, eyeing the indistinct glow that was morphing into the shape of a lantern. "Robin!" Nami shook the other by the shoulder and Robin gasped like she'd abruptly been pulled out of her thoughts. Nami regarded her for a moment and then motioned behind her. Robin nodded and the two women quietly made their way towards the main street.
It took them awhile to navigate through the darkness and the fog, but they finally reached Amoret's clinic and made their way into the house. Nami cautiously inspected the rather small space before deciding it would be better to leave the lights off. Robin nodded in approval, "No need to attract more attention than we already have."
The two scoured around the place, looking for any sort of clues that might remotely explain the situation they were in. But after several minutes of nothing, Nami plopped down on the sofa and sighed in frustration.
"I don't get it! Where is she?! It's been several hours already! If we keep delaying, the force field will shut and we'll never be able to get out!" She threw her arms up in exasperation and watched Robin flip through a bunch of papers.
"Well, that is if they haven't been shut already."
"They?" Nami got up and made her way to the far table that Robin had been hunched over. The latter straightened up and tapped the paper she'd just finished reading, "Yes, they. According to this elaborately illustrated plan, there isn't just one force field around the island, but three; each of which is controlled by more than one very large machine." She laid out the sheets of paper side by side and swept an arm across them, "The outermost, is controlled by three massive generators and is unbreakable from either the outside or the inside. The innermost is controlled by two smaller, but just as massive, generators and while it can be broken through from the outside, the inside has been thoroughly reinforced, making it impossible to break through. The middle one is controlled by a single rather less massive generator and has only one function, keeping the outer and inner fields together."
Robin laid her palms flat on the cold wood and scrutinized the blueprint one more time. She pointed at a small picture that was scribbled between scrunched up lines of formulae and information. The scribble was a spherical disc with two smaller circles within it and a thick, rough line drawn through the middle. Robin tapped the line again and nodded, "Yes, it makes sense now!"
"What does?" Nami asked slowly, as she frowned down at the image and tried to decipher its hidden meaning. Robin traced the three circles and whispered slowly, "Assuming these represent the three force fields," she traced the rough line next, "and this represents the island," she tapped the bottom half of the sphere that was cleanly cut into two symmetrical semi circles by the line in the middle, "then we can safely assume that the force field continues not only on the ground but under water too!"
Nami frowned and put a hand on her hip. "Okaaay, and if that's true, why do you look like you've just seen Santa Claus?"
Robin smiled at Nami, her dark eyes glinting in the moonlight and Nami gulped, "Robin stop that, you're scaring me!"
Robin chuckled and motioned towards the papers, "I'm going to go ahead and make an assumption that the generators for the outermost field are underground, the ones for the innermost field are high above ground and the one that controls the middle field has been destroyed."
Nami opened her mouth making to say something, but then she just shrugged and ran a hand through her hair. "You know, sometimes I wish you'd be a little less mysterious." When Robin chuckled and relaxed, Nami smiled, "Now that's better isn't it? Care to explain the various assumptions that you seem to be so sure about?"
Robin raised a finger, as if telling Nami to be patient, and then pointed at the small, messy scribbles that surrounded the image. "I'm afraid to say, I was just acting smart, it's all been written here."
Nami rolled her eyes and bent over the paper, trying to decipher the illegible scribbles. "I'd say you were a genius for being able to read all this crap."
Robin shrugged, "What can I say? I've been deciphering the mysteries of the world since the time I could walk."
Nami scoffed and straightened up, "You still haven't explained why you look so happy."
"Well, I assumed that was self explanatory."
Nami raised an eyebrow and Robin continued to smile at her. Nami groaned and ran a hand down her face. "Please, oh mysterious one! I would be immensely grateful if you would explain your assumptions!"
Robin chuckled and leaned against the table, "Well, if all the generators are on ground, then what's keeping the force fields below ground together?"
Nami opened her mouth again and sighed after a moment. "I got nothing."
"Well, we just have to find out don't we."
"What!" Nami watched as Robin carefully rolled up the papers and slid them into her dress. Nami was about to protest and demand a better explanation, but the creaking of the stairs froze them in place. They held their breath and slowly made their way to the door. Nami stood on the side the door opened towards, effectively blocking her from vision and Robin pressed herself behind the small refrigerator that was on the other side of the door.
Several moments of silence passed and Nami almost relaxed, but there was some fumbling on the other side of the door, followed by more silence and then a click that echoed across the small space. Nami's heart was hammering against her ribs and she clutched her Clima Tact to her chest, ready to jump whoever it was, the second the door opened.
The two women watched as the door knob turned slowly and they waited with bated breath, as the door was pushed open. Nami heard Robin whisper and watched as arms spun around the intruder and locked around their body, causing them to fall to the floor. Nami shut the door and was about to unleash her lightening onto the person, when she noticed the long, messy hair all over the floor.
"Amoret-san?"
Robin caused the arms to vanish and Amoret sat up, red in the face. She huffed, pushed her wild hair out of the way and gasped out bitterly, "If it were anybody else and in a different situation, I wouldn't be this forgiving."
Nami shrugged sheepishly and Robin helped her up. Amoret nodded at the two and made to one of the tables. She dug around for a bit and once she found what she needed – which turned out to be two pistols, several scalpels and needles of different sizes, measuring tape made of metal, a couple of bottles of suspicious looking liquid, and a large, scary looking syringe – she picked up a stethoscope, placed it around her neck and dumped everything else in the seemingly bottomless pockets of her lab coat. She nodded at the two women as she bristled out the door, "Well come on then, we haven't got long."
The three women made their way down the stairs and just as they were about to leave the building, Nami grabbed Amoret's arm.
"Shouldn't we make sure no one's out there? I mean this is only the most obvious place they'd look for us at."
Amoret raised a shaped eyebrow at the redhead and shrugged her arm free. "You really have to stop treating me like an idiot. I hold grudges ya know."
Nami opened her mouth to retort, but Robin nudged for her to follow and the three crept out of the building and along the shady alleyways, till Amoret abruptly stopped. She turned to the other two and took a breath, "Alright, now you listen to me and listen well. What I'm about to do is absolutely mental and suicidal and I have half a mind to make you do it, but considering all possibilities and consequences, I've decided my death will not be in vain."
Nami and Robin just stared blankly at the woman and she huffed in indignation. "Well whatever! You see that there?" she motioned to the blinding lights of the red light district and the barricades at the entrance. Nami gulped and took in a ragged breath. "Is that…."
"Yes. That's where your friends have been all this while and that's where you'll end up or worse, if you don't do exactly as I say."
"What do we have to do?"
Nami bit her thumbnail as she studied the mansion in front of her. It was quite extravagant, considering the state the town was in. She through the carefully thought out plan over and over in her head, Amoret's warnings ringing clear in her mind. She was always cautious, it never hurt to be too careful after all, but this is was insane. They had done some – ok more than some – crazy things before, but this was the most hare-brained, preposterous, absurd plan she had ever heard. 'We are soooo going to die.'
"You really should stop doing that."
"Doing what?"
"That."
Robin gently tugged on Nami's hand and the two watched as a drop of blood slid down her soft skin. "Huh." Nami sucked her injured thumb, the metallic taste in her mouth adding to her already frayed nerves. Robin shifted beside her and Nami sighed.
"It's now or never right?"
Robin smiled and clasped her arm gently, "You know what to do Nami, don't get caught no matter what. And if you do-"
"Kill myself, yeah I know."
An indescribable emotion flashed across Robin's face, as she gripped her companion's arm tightly, "No… No, I was going to say run as fast as you can and hide."
Nami laughed abruptly and tilted her head, "Oh. Right. Yeah, I'll do that."
Robin gave her one last weary look and began walking away, Nami calling after her "Take care of yourself Robin!"
Robin waved once and disappeared into the darkness. Nami sighed and turned back to her task at hand. Flexing her shoulders, she steeled herself, mumbling Amoret's instructions absent-mindedly.
"Sneak in. Find Diara. Sneak out. Don't get caught. Don't bump into anybody. Don't talk to anybody. Don't answer any questions. Don't run or make sudden movements. Don't die."
A/n: Alright! Explanation time.
1. Yes, there are three forcefields controlled by different generators and the locations of the generators are exactly where Robin assumed them to be.
2. No, Freddy or the others who are in on the whole 'destroy the generator' plan do not know that there are three forcefields.
3. The reason for the above, is mainly because the information about the forcefield was found out by Amoret very recently and she wasn't able to relay the information to Freddy and crew.
4. Yes, Diara is still alive and no, she did not shoot herself. Who she is, I think you can guess, considering Amoret and her are working together and they both send the crew to each other for help. Also considering Amoret's identity.
5. No, Freddy is not working for Dragon, someone asked me that and he isn't. You'll know who he is sooner or later.
6. Um well, Amoret wasn't joking when she said she was going to die...
That's all!
Sneak peak at the next chapter: Nami successfully sneaks her way into the mansion, but before she manages to find Diara, the enemies find her. She somehow is able to escape, but ends up stumbling into an even worse situation, or person rather, i.e Zeher. How will she escape? Will she be able to save Sanji and Zoro? What is Amoret upto? Stay tuned for more!
P.s, sorry for lack of ZoSan... I just like the girls too much orz
