Sighing, I finished eating breakfast as I sat out on my rocking chair, still holding a cup of tea. Foalen was lying on my lap, despite his large size. All the snow had mostly melted, thank god. I loved the frozen water crystals as much as the next person, but I was getting a tad restless. I couldn't do much while trapped in my little cabin.

It had been a couple days since Death had come parading back. In all honesty, it was like I was taking care of a child; a really big, muscular child. He refused to eat, didn't get how things worked, but learned quickly, and refused to sleep. He said he never needed to sleep before, and that he needed to be aware. Aware of what, I'll never know. Despair was getting a lot better, his skin finally normal looking, and even a mane and tail beginning to grow. I expected him to be a pretty horse.

I was snapped from my thoughts when Death's loud footsteps came up the porch steps.

I took a sip of my tea, "Where did you run off to today?"

"None of your concern," Was all he said, walking over to the swing bench on the other side of the porch.

"It is my concern if it involves some way of getting me in trouble."

"I have not done anything to cause you trouble, does that satisfy you?"

I shrugged, "Not really, but whatever." We were engulfed in an awkward silence until Death broke it.

"Tell me about the town nearby," It was more of an order than a request. I looked at him, an eyebrow raised. He looked lightly different from when he had arrived. His skin had lost it's grey tint, but was still as pale as the snow. He'd gotten slightly shorter but still towered above me. He was also getting skinnier, if that was even possible. But that was his fault, he refused to eat.

"Why?" I asked, setting down my now empty mug on the floor and burying my hands in Foalen's fur.

"I am merely curious."

"If I tell you, will you tell me about wherever you came from?" I smirked.

He didn't miss a beat, "Only if the information you tell me is sufficient."

I pouted before returning to my apathetic look, "Ok, fine. Well, it's a small town, with less than 2000 residents. Tourists come by from time to time only to see the national park about fifty miles from here. They come to make pit stops, they could care less about the town itself. There's one diner, a wash, a clothing store, jewelry store, supermarket, theatre; though its going out of business, and a hospital just outside the town borders. That is pretty much it."

"Doesn't seem very interesting."

"Never said it was. Not everything has to be interesting."

"And of course, you would know," His voice dripped with sarcasm.

I sent him a glare, "Look around you, does my life look very interesting?" Without waiting for a reply, I continued, "Anyway, you'll get to observe it all later, we need to go down and buy you warm clothes."

Death huffed, "I do not n-"

"Ah ah ah! I'm tired of hearing that. Bullshit, man! Look at yourself, I can see you're holding back shivers! It's nothing to be ashamed of, you're not wearing a shirt for Christ's sake! And not to mention you're getting skinny. You. Need. To. Eat. Whatever properties served you before don't apply here." I stopped my rant and glared daggers at him. If looks could kill, lets just say he'd probably be on fire. He glared back in silence before growling.

"Fine." I nodded.

"Good."

I stood and, after grabbing my gloves and scarf and putting Foalen inside, followed Death to the stables. I smiled and waved at Despair as I passed, and he merely grunted in response. Rolling my eyes. I made my way over to Ruthad's stall and leaned over the door. Ruthad was standing near the back corner, probably sleeping.

"Ruthad, boy, time to wake up~" I chirped, and the horse's head bucked up in surprise. I blinked as I saw a bleeding gash on his backside, and stroked his head lovingly, "Who did that?"

Despair made a guttural whinny, almost like a laugh, and I glared at him. Would these two ever get along?

After saddling up our mounts, we rode out onto the road at a leisurely trot.

death sighed as he watched the woman mill around the library. Iris had dragged him in here when they'd finished the town tour. Normally he'd be reading every book he could find, but nothing was interesting. All the books in the history aisle he already knew about. In fact, most of the information in the books were wrong, for he'd actually been there to witness most of the events.

Finally, with a mountain of varying genre books, Iris checked them out and walked out the door with the back. Death followed close behind, staring with hidden curiosity at the plastic bag.

"What books did you buy?" He tried his hardest not to let his interest be known.

Iris turned to him with a knowing smirk and tried her best to imitate his voice, "None of your concern."

Death sent a fiery glare her way as they made it to their horses. As Death placed a foot in the stirrups, he froze when a shooting pain was sent from his stomach to his head, followed by another growl in his abdomen. He felt an odd burning on his hidden cheeks as Iris burst into laughter.

"Silence!" He snarled," Why do you find my pain amusing?"

Iris snorted, wiping a tear from her eye, "You're just hungry, and don't try to tell me otherwise. It's obvious you're starving and sooner or later you won't be able to deny it." Death was silent so she continued, "So, you better suck it up now, because we're going to the diner down the street."

Death chuckled, crossing his arms, "And who are you to tell me what to do?"

The woman shrugged and leapt upon her horse, "You're welcome to try and find your way home and potentially starve to death, be my guest. If you need me, I'll be eating~" Without another word, she and her horse cantered off down the block, leaving the rider and his horse behind. Death rubbed his temples in annoyance. This woman was extremely stubborn, and her attitude was giving him a headache. Well, either that or it was his hunger.

A choked caw sounded above them, and he held out his arm for Dust to land on. The bir's feathers had frozen splotches here and there and his green eyes looked tired.

'"It seems your time travelling with me has made you forget that you come from a frozen world," Death smirked, Dust sending him a glare and another loud caw before curling up in his hair resting on Death's shoulder. The rider nodded in understanding, sighing and mounting Despair. "So it seems we truly are trapped here."

00000000000000000000000000000000000

This was awkward. No, this was more than awkward... You could feel the tension in the air as Death and I sat in silence in the booth. I absentmindedly chewed on the edge of my tea mug and looked everywhere BUT towards Death. Our food had yet to come, and the dude across the diner staring at me didn't help me feel any less uncomfortable. Death was boredly staring out the window while Dust was sound asleep on his shoulder.

"Sorry for the wait, we're a little backed up at the moment," The waitress said, setting my salad in front of me and Death's tomato soup in front of him. "Can I get you two anything else?"

"No thank you," I smiled politely.

"Alrighty, enjoy!" She left, leaving us to our lunch.

I poked distractedly at my greens with my fork as I watched Death. I don't know why I was so interested in him eating. Maybe I was just desperate to see his face. Well, either that or how amusing it was to watch him fumble around.

"You use a spoon for soup," I smirked as Death picked up the fork.

He glared at me, "I knew that. I do not require your help." Holding back a snort, I watched as he turned his focus to the soup. The spoon looked tiny in his hand as he balanced the red creamy substance. I frowned as he only slightly lifted his mask to eat. Well that was anticlimactic. Soon his soup was gone and I had yet to eat my salad.

"Hurry up and eat, the sooner we leave the better."

00000000000000000000000000000000000

"How the hell am I supposed to know your shirt size?!" I was getting frustrated. Death was a big guy, all we could find that was his size in the small clothes store were XL shirts and size 38 pants. He wasn't cooperating though, all he did was stand there growling.

"Why is my original attire not sufficient?"

I sighed, "You can't be going around with no shirt on and an indian cloth and not expect the police not to arrest you. People with start to think you're going streaking."

"Streaking?" Death looked boredly at a hat rack nearby.

"Yeah, streaking. Where someone rips off all their clothes and runs around flashing people." I picked up a large, long, black trenchcoat.

"Disgusting." I could imagine Death's scowl and rolled my eyes.

"It is, but only crazy people do it, so it's up to you whether you need to worry about it." I checked the coat's price before handing it to him, "Here, try this on, it might suit your style." Without responding, he took the coat, as well as the other clothes we found and begrudgingly slipped into a changing room.

Dust fluttered down onto the bench beside me as we waited, and I smirked as he poked my arm, "Yes?" His green eyes starred up at me and I raised an eyebrow, "You really trying to apologize?" He cawed, snuggling up close to my jacket. I rolled my eyes, "Apology accepted, I guess."

Both of us looked up as Death stepped out, and I was surprised to say the least.

Death had kept his gloves, boots, and belt holding his scythes on, but replaced his cloth with black pants and a ripped long sleeved black shirt that was tucked in. The large trench coat gave him an even more intimidating look. The collar was up, and it was long enough to swish around his feet. But something was missing...

I snapped my fingers before grabbing a leather, western looking, black hat and placing it on his head, having to reach up to be able to. I looked over my work, "You look REALLY goth..." And smiled, "I like it."
