Deepest Desires. Chapter 6: Face Down...
"Why?"
Wade blinked rapidly as he turned in the spare bed he was in, the blankets tugging at the curves of his body as he glanced at Cody who was sitting on the edge of the bed.
It had been a day and a half with Wade staying with Cody, his wife suddenly going to stay with a friend which left the two males alone. It wasn't strange for Wade to wake up and have Cody sitting there staring at him, when he had questioned it the blue-eyed male had simply replied with; just making sure you slept well...it's not weird. A grin soon following.
However, the sudden question left Wade with a frown on his face as he rubbed his sleep filed eyes before yawning.
He had woken up about five minutes ago, feeling Cody's eyes watching over him. After the first time of Cody literally sitting only a foot away (which caused Wade to jump and almost scream, though he'd never admit it) he knew now that if Cody wasn't there - he'd miss those blue eyes looking at him; it was as though they were telling him he was safe...Yes, like Cody had said when it first happened...it's not weird.
Still frowning, Wade rolled onto his side properly and looked Cody up and down, he was wet, either from having a shower or an early morning workout, though the later seemed a bit off considering Wade and Cody worked out together in his home Gym, or went out with some of the other lads from the WWE and did practice matches together.
Wade couldn't help but look at the other male and how his clothes stuck to his chest and legs, showing off his defined body. Moving his eyes up, Wade blushed deeply as he saw Cody smirking at him.
"What are you on about, Rhodes?" Wade covered his face by pushing his head into a pillow, feeling Cody move closer as the bed dipped.
"Why haven't you got a boyfriend already?" Wade slowly lifted his head up and looked at Cody with confusion running throughout his light green eyes which were still slightly blood-shot from sleep.
Cody frowned at Wade as though he was trying to figure out an impossible question. "You're handsome, pretty some would say, me being one of them. Once people get to know you, you might still have that rugged sense about you, but once you get through that thick layer of 'I don't wanna be messed with so leave me alone before I Bull Hammer your face into the brick wall,' you're not that bad of a guy to know -"
"Thanks...I think." Wade mumbled as Cody continued, seemingly ignoring him.
"And it doesn't happen a lot, but when you smile..." Cody looked away before running a hand through his short, wet hair. "I've always felt like the luckiest man in the world whenever I got you to smile...it's one of the many things I love about you..."
'Love?' Wade almost choked on his own breath before he suddenly turned away, sneering at the window not far from the bed. "Stop it with that mushy-bull, Rhodes; I don't want to bloody hear it." The Brit growled out, tugging the blankets up his bare arms before flopping down onto the bed instead of on his elbows.
Cody rolled his eyes before sighing. "Still. It doesn't explain why you don't have a boyfriend, you could have anybody - yet you're alone. Why? And don't make up some crap about it being the jobs fault and you can't find anyone good enough for you," Cody's tone changed to an aggressive one. "I want the truth, and I want it now; there has to be a reason you're not with someone already."
Wade wanted nothing more than to pull the covers over his head, pretend Cody's not there, and then fall to sleep again. But, if there was one thing Wade knew, it was that Cody was nothing if not stubborn – and more than likely wouldn't leave until Wade spilled out the truth about why he was so hesitant about finding someone to spend his life with...
Grumbling, Wade rolled onto his back, the blankets resting against his thighs which exposed his bare chest and the top of his black bed shorts. Looking at the ceiling, knowing full well that Cody was still sitting on the bed and waiting for an answer, Wade sighed before closing his eyes.
"When I was 24 I met this bloke who...well, he pretty much got me out of debt and gave me a flat. I knew who he was already in a way, he would always put bets on me to win in all of the bare knuckled fighting matches I was in, I just never met him face to face until we bumped into each other one day while I was running from this bloody cop after nicking some food; I was poor and lived on the streets for a while..."
Wade paused for a short moment before carrying on.
"He gave me food, a roof over my head and helped me get back on my feet; he even taught me some new moves for my fights. He was really nice and not bad on the eyes...he stood up for me and would always make sure I was okay. I wanted to pay him back, but how could I? I barely earned 20 quid. The only way I could was to get better, earn more money and give it all to him, so I did. I got better, I improved myself, I took on more fights and a lot more risks for him. Every single penny I earned I gave it to him..."
Covering his eyes with the back of his arm, Wade gulped.
"But when I turned 26...he said that I had to pay him back. I thought he was joking; after all I was giving him all of my money. Then he told me exactly what he wanted as repayment. He wanted me to do stuff for him, and not just him but his "clients" too. I knew I was gay ever since I was 17, that's why I was on the streets because my dad wasn't happy about it and kicked me out. Even so that didn't mean I was going to get on all fours and beg someone to bloody fuck me especially not some stranger. He said if I didn't do what he said then he'd get rid of me and I'd never make it anywhere in life, so I told him to go ahead and kick me out..."
"I take it he didn't?" Cody asked quietly.
"Not at first," Wade gave a soft, almost pain filed chuckle. "He called his friends over. All of them men and all of them were people who I had fought against in the past, one was bloody bigger than the Big show I swear...They made me do stuff that I didn't want to do, Cody...I managed to run away from them once they had enough for a while...I somehow found myself at my parents home and they finally took pity on me and let me in providing I didn't speak about anything, including being gay. I swore to myself that I wouldn't trust anybody again, especially not someone who I thought I loved..."
"…You loved him…" Cody mumbled. "I'm sorry..." He looked down sadly only to raise his head once Wade laughed bitterly.
"Why are you sorry, Rhodes?" He chuckled, though Cody knew he was remembering what happened to him. "I found out a year later when the WWE finally picked me up to wrestle in America that he was married and had kids..." Wade mumbled the last part.
"...Wow..." Cody didn't know what else to say as Wade nodded his head in agreement.
"I wish I would have bit his bloody cock off for what he made me do..." Wade's voice was deeper than normal and extremely rough. "That's why I don't have a boyfriend; I don't bloody trust anyone knowing they could stab me in the back at any given chance. And I hate cheaters because he was one...he cheated on his wife... Granted, we never had sex and I put up to much of a fight for the others to knock a round off with me, but the intentions were still there..."
"...Wade..." Cody slowly pulled Wade's arm from his face, revealing puffy, tearful eyes.
"I can't trust people Cody, I'm not like you, I act confident just so people leave me alone, I act tough so people don't know I'm nothing but a coward and -"
"You've been through a lot Wade, no one can expect you to be confident after that, and seriously?! You're the strongest person I know! You had the Big Show on your shoulders, you've beaten Randy Orton and some of the toughest men I know in the locker room - so you are strong, Wade. And don't ever say you're a coward because your not. You never have been..."
Wade really wished Cody would stop with the mushy stuff, he didn't think he could take much more before he threw himself into the younger mans arms and pleaded with him to never leave...
Later that day Wade was sitting in the kitchen as he nibbled on a piece of fruit, his bum on the counter and his feet touching the floor as he waited for Cody to come back. They had been discussing what to do for the rest of the day when the phone had rang, Wade had picked it up, only to frown as he heard Brandi's bittersweet voice ask for Cody - and then the younger man had gone upstairs as Brandi began yelling at him.
Wade was suddenly brought out of his thoughts as Cody coughed from the door way, making the Brit turn around quickly to see him with a pale look gracing his face as he entered the kitchen, careless tossing the phone to the side.
"Cody?" Wade asked slowly, worry taking over his emerald-green orbs. "Are you alright?"
Cody snapped his head towards Wade, he looked as though he was trying to figure out if he was okay or not. "I think I'm getting a divorce..."
Wade almost spat out the fruit in his mouth before quickly swallowing it down. "What? Why?!"
"I'm getting a divorce because evidently Brandi doesn't want to put up with me anymore..."
"Cody...if this is because I'm here then I'll leave if -"
"What?! No, no! It's not your fault Wade, I promise." The English-born superstar wasn't stupid and saw the sly smirk that began to creep across Cody's face after he said that – almost as though he had just realised something.
"You don't seem that down about it?" Wade wiped his mouth before looking closer at the young Rhodes who gave a face of innocence.
"Well, all we did was argue, we never really had a marriage and she suddenly hates my guts so...I guess I should feel bad..." Cody looked down at his hand, seeing the golden ring on his finger. "But I made a mistake marrying her, maybe at one point we did love each other, but now...Now there's nothing there but hate - and what marriage can survive on hate?"
Wade watched as Cody slowly slipped the ring from his finger. "I think I'm happy more than anything, how bad is that?" Cody chuckled as he came and sat next to Wade on the counter. "Now what do I do with this?"
"Keep it," Wade supplied. It was a good-looking ring, fit for someone who would keep to their vows with Cody. "You never know when you might need it again; you can always get another one made if she keeps her one."
"You know what?" Cody grabbed Wade's hand and made his palm face him. "You're right. Here."
Wade blinked once or twice as the golden ring was planted on his palm.
"You can look after it for me until I find that perfect someone; you are my best friend after all..." And I might just plan on marrying you one day... Cody smiled brightly, and before Wade could protest, his phone pinged signaling there was a message.
Pulling it out of his jean pocket, Wade read what it said. "It's from Renee, she said we've both got work tomorrow; Vince wants you to work with your brother and me to go against Dean Ambrose before Swagger comes down and beats Dean down. Hmmm, and she wants us to go to the beach with her and a few others in half an hour."
Cody nodded, hearing his own phone ping with more than likely the same message. "Seems okay to me; and luckily for you – you get to check me out in my beach shorts." He grinned, taking a pose.
Wade smiled before laughing a little; "How can I refuse?"
Sorry about the wait and all the mistakes, but please review if you liked it and don't if you didn't ;) There should only be a few more chapters of this story to come and I've got a general idea of how it's going to end so it shouldn't be much longer now. Cheers for reading :)
