Mega Man and Villager were very eager and excited when they rose from their warm and cozy beds the following morning. The other night, prior to the Smashers being overcome by slumber, Master Hand had announced that the mansion would be receiving some "very special guests", and that he would be hosting a "welcome party" to enhance their experience with the Smash Bros. Not only did this enthrall the current Smashers, it also convinced them to be on their best behavior and act with more etiquette. This relieved the Hands, as they believed first impressions were the most important, and they did not want anybody scaring the guests away with foolish shenanigans.
After changing out of their pajamas, Rock and his animal-loving friend dashed downstairs and promptly stood by the front door in hopes of being the first ones to greet their guests. Fortunately for them, everyone else was still asleep, as it was only 6:00 a.m.
After about half an hour, Rock asked, "So…what time did Master Hand say the guests would be here?"
"I'm pretty sure he said 12:30," Villager answered after a quick glance at his watch.
Rock furiously threw his arms in the air. "Great! What are we supposed to do for the next six hours?!"
"I really don't know," Villager said as he shrugged his shoulders.
Rock and Villager waited impatiently and furiously by the entrance, while unknowingly falling asleep doing so. When they finally awoke, they opened their eyes to the sight of everyone else living in the mansion crowding near the door.
"Villager, quick! What time is it?" Rock asked immediately.
"12:29…"
"So our guests should be here any minute now! We couldn't beat the crowd, but maybe we can squeeze our way through so that we can see them."
Rock and his pal attempted to, almost effortlessly, to force their way to the front of the crowd. By the time they had succeeded, Master Hand had already begun to deliver his speech.
"Fellow Smashers…I have brought you all here today to deliver some very important news. As you should already know by now…we will be visited by a few very important guests. I should also inform you that-"
"It's 12:30! It's 12:30!" Crazy Hand randomly blurted out.
"Silence, Crazy! I know what time it is! Anyway, you should be informed that while these people are here as guests, they are also Smash characters returning to the roster that have appeared in Brawl." He reached for the door, announcing the characters' names as they came in. "It is with great honor that I present to you…Olimar, representing the latest game in his series: "Pikmin 3"!"
The mansion was filled with thunderous applause and whistling. Villager whispered to Rock his opinions about the returning Smashers as each were announced.
"Interesting…He looks like an astronaut!"
"Next up, here's the hero that single-handedly rescued his sister and controlled the winds! Representing "The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD", here is Toon Link!"
"It must have taken a lot of courage to save his sister! And he looks so young, too!"
"Also, here comes the dude with the need for speed! Representing the newest game to his franchise, subtitled "Lost World", it's Sonic the Hedgehog!"
"That's a hedgehog? I didn't know they could be blue!"
Mega Man suddenly stood in awe of the blue blur, mesmerized. "Whoa, it's him!"
"Finally, it's the blue-haired prince of Altea! Standing in for "Fire Emblem: Awakening", please put your hands together for Marth!"
"If that's a prince, why is he wearing a tiara?"
The overjoyed crowd gave one final round of applause for the reconfirmed Smashers and made their way to the ball room, where an exciting welcome party was waiting.
As the ever-growing roster of Smash Bros. engaged in an unforgettable night of dancing and celebrating, Rock decided to do some catching up with his old friend Sonic, who was helping himself to the punch bowl at the refreshments table.
"Sonic, old buddy! How have you been?"
"Mega Man? You're in Smash Bros., too? Sweet! I'm doing great, by the way. How about you?"
"Fantastic! I was beginning to believe I would never appear in a game ever again until Master Hand sent the invitation!"
"It's great that we're all together now!"
Rock and Sonic carried on their conversation, discussing what they had accomplished in life since they had last seen each other, and Villager was using the restroom in the meantime. Upon exiting, his eyes met with the dreaded sight of what appeared to him as Sonic stealing his best friend. Overcome by rage, Villager stomped angrily over to his friend to "settle the matter".
"What do you think you're doing with Rock, you filthy animal?!"
Sonic wasn't one to take name-calling or threats lightly. "Excuse me? And just who do think you are?"
"I'm Villager from Animal Crossing! You can't just barge in here and take my friend away from me!"
Rock finally caught on to what Villager believed. "Oh, Villager, this isn't what it looks like! You see, Sonic and I have a long history that goes way back. We even have our own comic book series! Just because the two of us are friends doesn't mean that you're not my friend anymore."
The squinty-eyed expression on Villager's face told Rock that he wasn't buying it.
"Oh yeah? How do I know it's not just a ruse to keep me from being suspicious? The two of you just might pretend I don't even exist the second I turn my back on you! That's it…You're coming with me, Rock!"
The seemingly-innocent child grabbed one of Mega Man's arms, attempting to take him from as far away from Sonic as possible. The blue blur was already agitated from Villager's immature scoffing, so he wasn't about to let this happen. He, in turn, grabbed the other arm in an effort to retrieve his friend.
"Stop it, you guys! There's plenty of me for both of you!" Rock demanded as his fuming buddies pulled harder. "You're going to pull my arms out of their sockets!"
Suddenly, an arrow came flying their way, hovering over and just barely missing Sonic's head. The arrow's owner was none other than Toon Link, who happened to onlook the entire scene.
With an intimidating look, Toon Link hissed, "Keep going and the next one won't miss, Hedgehog!"
Sonic sprinted away in fear, to a place no one was sure of. Toon approached the remaining two in an apologetic manner.
"I'm very sorry guys. I just couldn't help myself. I saw you were in trouble, so-"
"Hey, don't worry about it. I appreciate it, though." Rock said with a smile.
"Hey, Toon Link! Thanks for getting rid of that pest! Anyway, want to be our friend? You know what they say: "The more, the merrier"!" Villager kindly offered.
With a quick roll of his eyes and a shrug of his shoulders, Toon answered, "Sure, why not?"
Villager rejoiced at Toon's response and happily joined his pair of friends in a heartwarming embrace. In the meantime, Master Hand was making his way to the center of the stage in front of the ball room.
"Can I have everybody's attention, please? All eyes on me! Thank you. Sorry for the interruption, everyone, but I would like to make one last announcement today. There will be another character joining the roster, but this one will be coming in as a newcomer that has never been in a Smash game before. Please watch as we reveal them with this presentation."
The lights in the room dimmed, and two spotlights were cast upon the violet stage curtains, which rose immediately to unveil a small yellow star-like creature. It twirled and danced about until a glimmering light appeared, twinkling and sparkling until a woman bearing a sky-blue dress could be seen within it.
"Ladies and gentlemen…Rosalina and Luma!"
The mansion once again overflowed with whistling and clapping of approval and cheerfulness. All the Smashers were overjoyed at the long-awaited reveal.
"What a fantastic way to make an entrance!"
"All right! Another character!"
"She looks-a even more-a beautiful than before!"
"Shut up, Mario! She's not the only princess around here, you know!"
Meeting new people was always a joy for Villager, and Rock was sure that he would ecstatically provide his thoughts on the matter.
"This is so cool, isn't it, Rock?! I'm even more excited for the game than I ever was before!"
Rock smiled slightly in response, pondering what other possibilities the upcoming Smash games will provide and plotting a way to enhance the relationship between Sonic and Villager.
Author Notes: Now there's a bit of rivalry between the two! I wonder how Mega Man will bring them together? Anyway, here's the fourth chapter, so I hope you enjoyed it! I appreciate all the reviews you've been giving Enter the Fray so far, and I can't wait to see what you think of it now! I also have another Smash Bros. story coming up that involves Toon Link and Young Link being stepbrothers, so I hope you look forward to that!
