As the day went on, the Hands drew closer to the conclusion that the roster was growing larger by the minute! They were already up to thirty-three characters, but at which number would the roster list come to an end? Crazy blankly stared out the window from their office, while Master Hand looked over the character's personal files as well as the ever-growing roster.
Suddenly, he placed the stack of papers on his desk and told Crazy, "You know what, Crazy? I don't think we have enough Fire Emblem representatives in the game."
Averting his blank stare from what was on the other side of the glass window, Crazy replied, "What do you propose we do about that?"
With a heavy sigh, Master answered, "Well, we do have Roy, but I don't think it would make sense to just throw him in there willy-nilly. Plus, the most recent iteration of Fire Emblem, which is Awakening, has been a huge success, so I would like to include a newcomer from that series' entry."
"But we haven't really added any veterans since we invited Ike! Shouldn't we bring a veteran along with the newcomer?" Crazy suggested.
Master scratched his "chin" as he gave this suggestion some thought. "I think you're right, Crazy. We should! And I know just the person to call!" He picked up the gray bell phone on his desk and dialed a number. "Captain, I have a job for you!"
Later, within a giant stadium in a faraway land, a heated battle was unfolding. A blue-haired woman known as Lucina faced her opponent with her trusty sword in hand, confident in her blade-wielding skills. A large cloud of brown smoke evaporated from where the enemy stood, and she watched it carefully as her father Chrom lied helplessly behind her.
"What is this power?" she asked herself. She held up her sword in defense, observing her opponent in case of any sudden attacks.
As soon as the smoke withered away, the figure of a muscular man could be seen. With his arms folded, the eyes in his visor lit up and he let out a very smug grin. It was none other than the F-Zero racer himself: Captain Falcon!
Lucina turned around to see Chrom grunting and struggling to get back on his feet. Filled with anger and the deep love for her father, Lucina exclaimed, "For my father!" and charged at the Captain with her sharp blade aimed straight at him. She prepared to strike a blow, only to have Captain react quickly and counter with a punch that Lucina was fortunate enough to dodge. She attempted to thrust her sword once more, but Captain blocked the incoming attack and forcefully kicked the blade away, throwing Lucina off balance. With his opponent vulnerable, he found the opportunity to charge a Falcon Punch, but was suddenly cut off when three green projectiles came his way. He jumped back to a safer position in an acrobatic fashion and looked up to see a mysterious, levitating person carrying a book with a green aura around himself. He shut the book and safely brought himself to the ground.
Frightened, Lucina eyed the hooded man in front of her. Who was this mysterious stranger?
He turned to her and assured, "It's going to be alright…" Walking closer to Captain, he removed his hood to reveal his identity and snow-white hair. It was the male avatar of Fire Emblem: Awakening: Robin! "Time to tip the scales!"
"Robin!" Lucina sputtered when she realized who was standing before her. "What are you doing here? And who is that man I just fought?"
Captain huffed, "Hel-lo? I'm Captain Falcon from F-Zero! I'm here because I've just been invited to return for the next Super Smash Bros. games, and Master Hand wanted me to bring you two along as newcomers!"
"I see…" Robin replied.
"I've never even heard of Smash Bros.," Lucina remarked. "Do you know what it is, Robin?"
The white-haired mage nodded. "Yes, it's a game in which characters from multiple universes come together and battle each other. It's pretty popular and fun, to say the least, so being invited to join the roster is quite an honor. So, what do you say?" he asked, raising his voice excitedly. "Are you up for this offer?"
Lucina suddenly looked to the floor, as if she was pondering her response to Robin's question and thinking over her own fighting ability. "Well, I'm pretty sure I can hold my own in battle, but what about you, Robin?"
Clutching his sword and book tightly, the mage muttered, "Smash has many powerful foes, Lucina, but I am no ordinary swordsman!"
Captain rolled his eyes. "Great…Another arrogant sword-fighter."
All of a sudden, a regal man with an appearance similar to Lucina's, Marth, sprang out from the shadows and appeared in the center of the stadium.
"Is that…the Hero-King himself?" Lucina gasped, at a loss for words.
The blue-haired mercenary, Ike, also jumped out from the darkest corners of the stadium and took a spot next to Marth.
"And the radiant hero of legend," Robin added. "Worthy opponents indeed!"
Robin and Lucina, along with Captain Falcon, conversed ecstatically with the veteran Fire Emblem representatives, thrilled about partaking in Smash's very own exhilarating matches. Chrom slowly lifted his exhausted head and looked to the happy Smashers in anguish. Ike, Marth, Robin, and even his own daughter were invited to join Smash Bros., but not the leader of Ylisse's Shepherds himself?
"I suppose I'll get my chance another day…" he muttered faintly before lying his head back down. Robin somehow became aware of this and excused himself from the group to comfort the Shepherd captain.
"Sir," Robin began after kneeling down beside him, "I'm very sorry you weren't given an invitation to join Smash Bros. You may not be put on the roster, but I think I've thought of a way to give you an opportunity to participate in the scuffles."
Chrom's face lit up. "I'm all ears."
"How would you like to be part of my Final Smash?"
"Well, it's not exactly a spot on the roster, but I guess it's better than nothing." He thought to himself. Smiling softly, he replied, "I would really like that…"
Smiling back at him, Robin carefully lifted Chrom up from the floor and patted him on the back. They were joined by Lucina, who came at them with a warm embrace. When they returned the favor, Captain Falcon couldn't help but grow a huge grin himself.
"Well, this has all been very touching," he chimed in, "but we should really get going. Master Hand is waiting for us."
The gang gathered their belongings and made their way down to the Smash Mansion with heads held high. With new characters in hand, they were certain that this was going to be one interesting brawl!
Author Notes: Those certainly are some interesting character choices. I bet no one was expecting them during the character reveal trailer!
Anyway, here's the tenth chapter! It looks like the starting roster is complete, and I'm sure we'll be seeing more characters once we unlock them in the games! I'm definitely going to try out Robin.
I also have a new story coming! I now I announce new stories quite a lot, but I really have my mind set on one called "A Glitch in the System". It's a Smash Bros. story, so I hope you look forward to it, as well as the Babysitting Pit one!
Questions: What did you think of the character reveal? &
Do you think Sakurai was teasing us with that Rayman trophy? XD
