Okay so I hope you liked the last chapter. I have an idea for this chapter, so, hopefully, it goes as planned. It may deviate from the plan. I guess we will see.
P.S.: I don't own anything. Seriously. Nothing.
Chapter 7
Katniss POV
Peeta and I have been sitting here for 2 hours. We can practically feel the awkward from the other side of the school. Madge is shy and Gale is bold, unless you put him next to Miss. Undersee.
This is sad to watch. They haven't even moved from their original spots. They are still sitting al the way across the room from each other.
Until- finally- Madge speaks up.
"How's Posy?" It's not much of a start, but it works. Everyone in the whole county know that Gale cares for his family more than anything in the world.
"She's ding well. She just started kindergarten,"he responds, and that's how they actually get to know eah other. Eventually, it deviates t his brother and Prim and their little crushes and that is when it happens. "I have liked this girl for a while now but I've always been so scared to talk to her. But now," he says, shifting closer to Madge,"I'm not as afraid."
Then, she starts to lean in. Their eyes meet. Their lips ar about to tuch and...
The screen goes black.
When Peeta and I look out the window, we see that it is snowing, like blizzard snowing. We're going to be here for a while.
After about 20 minutes, Gale and Madge mannage to get the lock off the classroom door and find us in the office. They each have goofy grins on their faces, but I couldn't be happier for them. When I send her a curious look, she responds with a 'We'll talk later/ I know what you did but thank you so much' look. Yeah, we know each other well enough to know what look means.
When we start to get really board, We decide on the reliable high school passtime of truth or dare.
It's my turn first. I spin the bottle and it lands on Madge. We know everything about each other. So, when she says truth, the most amazing question ever pops into my mind. "What happened the first time you ever tried to talk to Gale?"
Her cheeks turn red at my question. We both remember that day vividly. Gale's ears seem to perk up and he leans closer to hear how he could possibly have made the mayor's daughter nervous.
''It all started because of a dare"
"Just do it, Madge" I say. She has been making googly eyes over Gale for the past 2 years. I know she has a crush on him but she would never admitt to it. "I dare ya. Or are you too afraid that he won't like ya." I know its a little harsh but thats the only way to get her to do something. I had to dare her to walk across the street without her mom for the first time.
"No I'm not. Why would I be scared? It's not like I like him or anything." She really is awful at hiding it, isn't she? After a gentle, encouraging nudge from me, she makes her way across the cafeteria. Gale and Peeta usually sit across the room forn us. Gale's eyes follow her across the room while she tries to look anywhere else. When she is just feet away- CRASH!
She collides with another student, sending tomato sauce all over her brand new white blouse that every boy stares at her in. She just stares at Gale before turning as red as the tomato sauce and heading into the girls' bathroom.
After that, it took her two months to even step foot in the cafeteria again.
She didn't atempt to talk to Gale again until today.
This was 4 years ago, the 8th grade.
By the end of the story, Gale is desprately trying to hold in his laughter while Peeta just stares at her in disbelief. Yep, she had been in love with him for that long. It's kinda sad when ou think about it. They had both been in love with each other for years. Both so afraid of the pain rejection would cause, that they opted out for equally as painful longing. Although, it does seem so romantic the they have loved each other for that long...
After a few more rounds of embarissing truth or dare, I hear the familiar notes from a song softly play over the radio.
It's a beautiful night, we're looking for something dumb to do,
Hey, baby, I think I wanna marry you
It has been a tradition ever since Madge and I heard this song when it first came out that we had to grab the nearest boy (even if it was a total stranger) and dance with them. It is just too good a song not to.
Madge instantly tugs a confused Gale up off the floor.
My hand reaches out, on its own accord, for Peeta's hand. When out skin touches, a jolt of electricity runs through my body. Its not like the kind of shock you get from tatic electricity. Its sooooooo much better. It feels like my body is on fire. No, not like being burned alive, most-painful-thing-that-could-ever-happen-to-you fire. Like consuming, electrifying, wonderful, exciting fire. Like the final fireworks on the Fourth of July.
I've danced with other boys, but I've never felt so drawn to them before. I just feel like being here, moving to my favorite Bruno Mars song, maybe even my favorite song period, is where I belong. Right here. Right now.
That's when I know, I am falling in love with Peeta Everdeen.
Is it that look in your eyes, or is it this dancing juice,
Who cares, baby, I think I want to marry you.
I am so sorry it took me so long to update. I've been helping out a new account (daddyslittlefangirl {who you should totally check out}) with their new story as well as doing normal 8th grade stuff. I've had a lot of stuff to do for high school. Dances, registrations, banquets, etc. so, I'm hoping to get the next chapter up this Firday but I can't make any promises. Please keep in mind all of us on the East Coast. New Jersey has been getting slammed with snow storm after snow storm. I mean, I love the snow and snow days it brings but I have been stuck inside all weekend with not feeling well from the crazy weather. AS I WAS SAYING, until next time...
