8. Well Meaning Friends (Matchmakers!)

Timeline: takes place in between Chapters 19 & 20 of TOBITF and 2 days before drabble 5

For the umpteenth time, Mina elbowed Kevin who was sitting next to her on the sofa whilst Raye jabbed Jason in the ribs behind Darien's back.

With a grunt and a sigh, Jason finally gave an exaggerated shrug of surrender.

"So, Dare, you and Rena, you're dating, right?" he asked somewhat casually.

Darien raised an eyebrow. He had been wondering when the subject might come up. "I should think that's pretty obvious," his answer came out just as casual.

Raye made a sound at the back of her throat, "How? How is it obvious when you haven't even asked her out yet?"

"We went to Prom together."

"But that was before you started dating," Mina said exasperatedly.

Darien kept his gaze level to hers, saying nothing.

"You can't be dating when you don't date!" the blonde almost screech out her frustration.

"We went to Prom together."

Mina's hand gripped Kevin's thigh to keep herself from leaping at a certain reincarnated Prince of Earth. To his credit, the leader of said Prince's guardians showed no outward reaction and calmly continued his reading.

"That was before you started dating officially!" Raye growled out impatiently.

"What exactly are you implying, or asking?"

"We are asking if you'll actually consider dating her, since you're...dating her," Lita said barely restraining herself from pulling at her hair in frustration.

"I'm already dating her."

Kevin smoothly put an arm around Mina while Jason quickly held Raye back.

"Technically, one has to go out on dates to be dating," Amy interjected reasonably.

"Your final examination starts the day after tomorrow."

"So?" Mina, Raye and Lita asked simultaneously.

"You want me to take her out on dates? During exam week?" a trickle of incredulity finally came through Darien's otherwise unaffected demeanour, "And not just any exam, it's your final high school examinations."

"Well exams or not, you both have to eat, don't you? Take her to dinner or something!" Raye huffed out indignantly, her arms crossed together in front of her chest.

"It doesn't have to be outside. We have a state of the art holo-room which can be programmed with any scenery." Mina added in, rolling her eyes at him as though it was the most obvious solution which to her it was.

"I've been wanting to add to the available programs. Adding a romantic dinner setting wouldn't be a problem." Amy stated simply.

"I'm not sure eating holographic food would appeal to Serena."

"Please..." Lita sneered, "A perfect meal for two is no problem. Rena loves my cooking. She won't find any cause for complains."

With that the four guardians of the reincarnated Moon Princess started planning her first official date with the reincarnated Earth Prince for her, right in front of him, as though he wasn't even there.

"I can be in charge of music. Slow and romantic should set the mood."

"I wonder if she'd prefer a casual Pizza or a fancy Sea-food Linguini."

"That will depend on the setting we give her. A romantic picnic in a rose garden or a table for two at a fancy restaurant should be easy enough to program."

"I can keep her occupied and get her ready. A dare should get her into the right dress."

Turning to his supposed best friends who were scattered in various positions in his living room, Darien requested through gritted teeth, "Guys, could you please get your girlfriends to leave my love life be?"

All planning stopped abruptly. Four pairs of eyes, light blue, green, purple and dark blue studied the tall, incredibly good-looking raven haired man thoughtfully.

Mina's irritation gave way to delight. "So you agree that there is love involved?" she asked innocently.

Darien made a sound at the back of his throat and sent a pleading look to his silver blond best friend sitting next to her.

Kevin gave an elegant shrug. "You did say love life," he pointed out calmly.

"And I make a mean dessert. Apple pie with cranberry sauce and strawberry ice cream would go well with the pizza and chocolate crème brulee and tiramisu cake would go perfect with the linguini. Let me know what you decide on, Lita," Nathan shot out to his girlfriend with a straight face, pressing his lips hard to stop them from curving.

"I can babysit while you keep Serena occupied, Raye," Jason added, not bothering to hide his glee or his grin.

"I wonder if the new program we wrote is compatible with the holo-program, Amy. Maybe we should test it on this new scenery," Zachary put in, almost absentmindedly to anyone who didn't know him well enough, but Darien knew where to look and immediately saw the subtle twitch of his friend's mouth.

"I can plan my own date," he said almost petulantly to the expectant, grinning faces around the room.

A/N: If you're wondering where Serena and the children were, they were probably in the kitchen with Andrew (begging him for their fix of triple chocolate milkshake with extra sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts and cream!) or working on wielding their crystals with Michelle (Amara can be a slave drive especially when it comes to her kitten's safety) or simply napping in her room (long week of studying could no doubt take its toll on her every now and then!) ;)
