Tamsin and Bo entered the Dal later in the evening, hand in hand, after their full day of 'activities'. The pub was bustling as usual on a Friday night as the two wove their way around throngs of bar patrons to get to the familiar wooden counter. Trick saw the pair approaching and grinned proudly. He loved that his granddaughter had chosen Tamsin over all her other 'suiters'. Tamsin was a powerful, respected, and experienced Valkyrie warrior and she was more than capable of sustaining Bo's hunger. Not only that, but, unlike Dyson, she understood that Bo could often take care of herself and didn't always need a hero and where Lauren was merely human and couldn't do much in the means of protection, when Bo did need help, Tamsin was definitely qualified to keep her safe.
"Hello girls," the old man said with a nod as the pair approached the bar. "How is my favorite couple this evening?"
"Hey, Trick," Bo responded while Tamsin merely nodded slightly in friendly reply. "We're good," the succubus said, glancing lovingly at the woman beside her.
"We're supposed to be meeting up with Dyson and the new power couple," Tamsin said. "They around?"
"Wow, really? We beat you out for the title of power couple? That's an achievement, if I do say so myself. What do you think, Ally?" Lauren's voice sounded behind them as she and Aloysia approached the growing group at the bar. Aloysia's light eyes were sparkling like no other as she gazed over at Lauren. She was so obviously taken with the doctor, a blind person could see it, clear as day.
"I'd say that's cause for celebration, wouldn't you?" Aloysia smiled and took Lauren's hand, bringing a light blush and a nervous grin to the human's face. "First round's on me," she said, turning her smile to Trick, who nodded with a grin of his own in return before setting out to retrieve the drinks.
"Yeah, well, don't let it go to your head. We could still beat both your asses if we wanted to," Tamsin said rolling her eyes as she threw an arm around Bo's shoulders and pulled her closer. "We're just toning down the PDA so people won't think we've gone soft." She scrunched up her face with her typical Tamsin attitude before setting her smirk firmly in place.
Bo giggled at the confrontation and wrapped her arms tightly around the Valkyrie's waist. She reached up on her toes to catch Tamsin's lips in her own for a deep kiss, as if to prove wrong everything the detective had just said. Pulling away after a moment, she bit her lip playfully and said simply, "I like to win." Tamsin just shook her head and sighed while Lauren and Aloysia laughed to themselves, enjoying the blonde's frustration and Bo's stubbornness.
"I wouldn't say 'toning down' would be the appropriate phrase here, partner," Dyson said with a wink and a playful nudge to Tamsin's shoulder as he joined the group.
Before Tamsin could respond with something that would no doubt end in a spat between the two detectives, Trick returned with their drinks. Only three things could take the Valkyrie's attention away from a potential battle of wits or strength: Bo, Lorelei, and alcohol. She shot the wolf a 'we'll finish this later' look and gulped down a hefty chug of her liquor.
Everyone got settled around the old, stained bar and prepared themselves for what would no doubt be a very intense discussion. Tamsin sat beside Dyson on barstools while Bo perched herself in front of the blonde on the edge of the counter itself with her legs dangling on either side of the Valkyrie's knees. Lauren sat on the stool to Dyson's left, content having Aloysia positioned snuggly on her lap with the doctor's arms wrapped comfortably around her waist. Trick was in his usual spot, behind the counter cleaning glasses that really didn't need to be cleaned.
"So. What do we know about this Dax guy?" Bo asked openly, being the first to speak.
"Well, we know what he wants..." Tamsin said lowly.
"Lorelei," Dyson said, stating the obvious as usual.
"He's not getting her," Bo snarled. Feeling anger building in her chest, her muscles began to tighten. Tamsin watched the change in her demeanor and placed her hands on the succubus' knees to calm her. The brunette glanced knowingly down at her lover and smiled a bit in thanks.
"No one is going to let that happen, Bo. Lorelei is of my tribe, I will fight with you all to the death to protect her. She is family," Aloysia said with a reassuring smile.
"Besides, if this Dax thinks he can up and take my Rune from the hands of a wolf, a siren, a pissed off, mama succubus, a feisty human, a doctor who knows enough about the fae to wipe them out completely, and two battle-trained Norsemen – a Nixie and a Valkyrie, at that – he's a damn fool," Tamsin said, throwing back the last of her drink and slamming the glass down on the wooden surface of the bar.
"Did you say Dax?" Trick spoke up for the first time.
"Yeah, that's the name on the letter," Bo said, extracting the wrinkled paper from her jacket pocket.
"Let me see that," Trick muttered, concern already lacing his tone. Bo handed the letter to her grandfather and everyone watched anxiously as the old man examined the page. "Just as I thought," he said quietly after scanning the object, through and through.
"What is it?" Lauren asked, poking her head around Aloysia's shoulder.
"His name isn't Dax." Trick said flatly, still staring at the paper.
"Well then what is it? How do you know that?" Bo asked, feeling herself getting further and further lost in this conversation, as usual. Though, this time around, she wasn't the only one.
"Dax is a French name that means leader. My guess is that he is called Dax among his subjects and loyals."
"I didn't notice that seal before," Dyson said, taking the page from Trick and looking it over for himself. "I know this emblem. It's from an old Irish wives tale that was around when I was growing up. They would tell it to the kids to keep them from abusing their powers before they were well prepared and risking outing the fae. It talked about a man with power like no one had ever seen before. It was told that he lived longer and had more abilities than any other fae but nobody knew who or what he was. They just knew his name and his emblem. Fae children would disappear during the night, special ones. Ones that were gaining their abilities before all the others. In their place would be a blank letter with this sign on it. They called him Tynan – a name that means dark."
"Tynan? What the hell kind of name is that?" Tamsin snickered, making a face.
"It's the last name you'll ever say, Valkyrie." A smooth voice sounded behind the group. In all their talking, they hadn't noticed how silent the bar had gotten. Immediately following the voice, five, well-aimed blades went soaring through the air and singing into the wood of the bar, a hairs width away from each member of the happy sunshine gang.
Everyone spun around to see where the voice had come from. Bo leapt from her place at the counter, dagger already in hand, and put herself in a defensive stance between Tamsin and the new threat. Aloysia was standing, back straight with her feet firmly on the ground snarling menacingly, guarding Lauren. Her white hair now fell to her knees, having yanked the objects that had been holding it in it's messy bun, which proved to be two thin, shiny daggers. Dyson was in pre-wolf-mode with his eyes yellow, his teeth out, and his hands turned out, claws at the ready. But nothing prepared them for the sight that they were met with.
A/N: Mwahahaha.
