Chapter 7: Understanding
Soraya's time in the mountain had been ok; she got to know more about where she was staying and who lived in it, she knew the names of the kids apart from Kaldur she learned that the two girls were called M'Gann and Zatana, the boy was called Conner even after seeing him a few times she got the impression he was always moody and didn't socialize much, the others she had learned were called Wally and Artemis there was another girl that hanged around but she never caught her name. The only adult if you could call him that was called Red Tornado she heard he had the power to create tornados with his body and also control certain wind patterns, though she had been inside the mountain for a few days she didn't really interact with the other sometimes the martian would try to talk to her but she just ignored her and moved on.
Most of time Soraya kept to the room she slept in and meditated, her sensei had taught her that finding peace would help her to keep a calm mind and balance her powers from the good and the bad, she spent 3 hours meditating and then practicing her martial arts to keep her body in balance as well as her mind. The only time she came out was when the other were either busy on missions or when they were training with the woman she saw when she woke up, today was different though as she came out to get something to eat she saw Kaldur alone in the training room he looked like he was getting himself ready to practice some fighting style, as she watched from the side she noticed that he was quite good and kept a good form but his latest technique wasn't working out for him as he kept falling onto his back every time.
"You're doing it wrong" Soraya spoke as Kaldur had failed for the 6th time in a row, he looked at her and looked a little confused "What you mean, Black Canary told me this was the way to do it" Kaldur said as he took a clean towel to swipe the sweat away, "Ya, but your landing and position are wrong" as Soraya walked up to the training mat taking off her boots and jacket, she positioned herself at the center of the mat she took a deep breath and sprung backwards onto her hands and then twisted her legs right letting her legs come apart and then twisting both hands to flow with the spin. She hit all the dummies that were in her range and then she used her hands to push herself up and then countered the twist and brought her foot down on the last dummy and then landed by keeling one leg on the mat and bending her other to keep her position ready to attack from behind. "Amazing, how you do that" Kaldur asked looking amazed at what Soraya had done.
"It simple, don't try and spin to quickly the first time get your body stance upright and then bring your legs around so you can use your hands to add the speed on as you kick your enemies, as for the landing make sure that your right leg is bent so that when someone comes up from behind you can then use that leg to kick him back as you roll forward to get a better view of your target" Soraya said as she put her jacket back on. "Right" Kaldur put the dummies back up as he tried again only this time with Soraya's advice he managed to do the move without falling back again, Soraya watched as Kaldur kept practicing the move till he couldn't stand she had to admit this guy was a dedicated fighter if he needed to keep practicing till he had a handle on the technique and moves.
"Thanks for showing me how to do that move, you must be a master if you can do it so smoothly" Kaldur said as he wiped the last of the sweat from his face "Well I have been practicing martial arts for a lot longer then you" Soraya got up and walked towards the kitchen, Kaldur followed her to the kitchen and got a bottle of water from the fridge Soraya made herself a sandwich and ate it in minutes and also grabbed a bottle of water and drank it as Kaldur leaned against the cabinets. Both kept quiet for a while till Kaldur broke the silence "So what you think about the team?" Kaldur asked Soraya looked at the young man and sighed "Their ok, Superboy seems cautious of me; M'Gann is nice but too friendly to my liking as for the other they are wary of me, though I can guess why with what I nearly did to them and you" Soraya took another gulp of water as she thought back to when she saw the rest of the team after recovering.
When meeting them she could tell that most of them were being cautious, all of them introduced themselves but Soraya could feel that some of them didn't want to be here to meet her, she didn't care much she was use to guys like them so she introduced herself and went back to her room for the rest of the day. The only kid that didn't seem too bad was Kaldur he seemed to be more mature then the other and was willing to get to know her even if the other were against it; she enjoyed talking to the boy for some time in the kitchen till a sound came from the main entrance of the cave. "Recognized: Batman 02, Green Arrow 08, Black Canary 13," as three figures came out of the machine Soraya watch by the hall as Kaldur went to talk to the superheroes "Anything to report" Kaldur asked "No, everything seems to be quiet at the moment seem the lights keeping quiet about the incident though Luthor's been poking around Fawcett city seem ably helping to rebuild the city" Black Canary said looking annoyed by the situation "For now we'll have to wait for their next move, besides were here to see the girl" Batman said which surprised Soraya why would these guys want to see her, it been a few days since she was questioned but still she thought the questioning was over.
Soraya continued to listen to the conversation between the teenager and the heroes and heard about some tests that they wanted to try out on her to evaluate her skill and abilities, she understood why but still the last time someone tested her it didn't go so well "Are you sure she ready, it has been a few days since she recovered she might not be at full strength" Kaldur said "I'll be fine as long as they don't pull any tricks" Soraya said as she came out of the hall way "You were listening" Black Canary asked "Fine hearing can pick up sound waves from miles away" as Soraya joined them "You sure your up to this" Kaldur asked looking concerned "Ya, so where these tests being held" Soraya asked thinking that this might be a good chance to see what these people could do and to see how strong they were.
Helicarrier
After Spiderman and his team had apprehended Doc Oc Fury had been questioning him about his machine for days and how they could get it to work, Doc Oc had refused to answer any questions and was placed inside his special cell which held his mechanical arms in place, "What we going to do, with that nut job refusing to talk we might not get Soraya back" White Tiger said as they walked down the hallway to meet Fury.
"Come on, she's properly fine let face it we all know what she capable of" Nova said looking relaxed with his arms crossed behind his head, "She may be able to defend herself but she is known to lose control if aggravated" Iron Fist said as they walked into the main deck of the Helicarrier "Iron Fist is right guys, remember when we met her, she completely smashed Juggernaut into the ground that time and it took Fury and all of S.H.E.I.L.D to calm her down" Spiderman said as they approached Fury.
Fury face the teenagers in his normal demeanor when he was discussing anything, "Team as of now we are at a standstill on how we can get Soraya back, Doc Conner's has made some progress on the machine but the best we can do is send signals through the machine" Fury said "You mean like a telephone message" Spiderman remarked "Yes like a telephone message" Fury said ignoring Spiderman remark and continued explaining what they would do now, the meeting discussed the team getting back into training and keep appearances in the public. "what about Soraya are you just going to leave her in whatever world she's in" Powerman asked "For now we can't do anything but wait, as soon as we have word that the machine is functional we'll bring you in" Fury dismissed the team and went back to operating the Helicarrier.
After leaving the Helicarrier Spiderman went back on patrol around New York, the day seemed normal as it would seem in New York, People traveling in their cars waiting to move through the traffic, the streets bustling with people shopping and Jameson complaining about Spiderman being a menace to society again over the large billboard screen.
Spiderman continued to patrol the city till he came across a car chase in progress "Well this should be interesting" as he swung down to catch the large truck which had Osborne logo on the side which meant that it was carrying something these thugs wanted, as Spiderman landed on the roof of the truck he fired his web shooters to create a barrier to stop the truck in it tracks, he jumped off the truck as it hit the web barrier as it did the truck fell onto its side and skidded for a while but as it stopped the thugs came out and started firing their guns "Come on, do you think wasting your time firing is going to help" as Spiderman fired his web shooters and dodged each bullet fired at him.
A few of the thugs ran off with a metal suitcase, Spiderman was busy taking out the thugs with the guns but as he finished off the last of the men he saw that the thugs with the case had already been dealt with by Iron Man, "Hey kid, need a hand with these guys" Tony Stark said as his mask showed his face "No thanks I've got it under control" Spiderman said as he knocked out a thug swinging a metal bar at his head "Really cause it looks like these guys are giving you a hard time" as Stark took out the last of the thugs.
"Well that wasn't so bad, now what was it they were after" Spiderman retrieved the suitcase from the unconscious thugs, the case wasn't large but had a high level security lock on the front and what was surprising was that it had a S.H.I.E.L.D mark on the front, "What the hell is a Osborne truck doing with a S.H.I.E.L.D case?" Spiderman thought as Stark noticed the case and used his suit to contact Fury "What is it Stark?" Fury replied using Spiderman's wrist com to talk to Stark "Sorry Fury, but could you explain how one of your classified suitcases got into an Osborne truck which was being driven by a group of hopeless thugs" Stark said.
Fury was surprised when Spiderman showed him the case, "Kid, Stark get back to the Helicarrier now and make sure that case doesn't leave your sight" Fury logged out "Why did he seem worried about this?" Spiderman looked at the case and began wondering why Fury would seem concerned about some random case.
After arriving back at the Helicarrier with Iron Man, both heroes enter the science bay where Conner's, Fury and Colson was standing, as Spiderman handed Colson the case Fury questioned both heroes on what happened, both explained that they both heard a police chase on a Osborne truck from an bunch of low level thugs who seem to know what they were stealing. "After that I contacted you after seeing your trademark logo on that case" Stark pointed at the case "So what's in it that you had to drag both of us up here" Stark asked as he and Spiderman waited for an answer, Fury closed his eyes and seem to be thinking about what to do next.
Fury took the case from Colson and put the case down and opened it up, inside was a file with a stamp mark called 'PROJECT DARKNESS' Fury handed the file to Stark, "read it and tell me what you think" Fury said as he moved back. As Spiderman and Stark read through the file they couldn't believe what they were reading, the file showed a variety of tests, training and other operations that they couldn't believe were being performed. "What the hell is this Fury" Stark yelled as the slammed the file onto the table, "It what it says Stark, this file was supposed to be on route back to a super high level fault under my orders" Fury said looking calm as ever.
"But if what we've just read is true why is it she's not in one of your maximum security cells like all the others you put in," Stark said looking slightly concerned, he'd met Soraya many times and knew how powerful she was but he knew that she was good at heart but also how dangerous she was "You know the reason why Stark, even if we put her in that place she'd destroy it in a matter of seconds as you know this from experience when she get out of control" Fury stood up and walked over to the machine Conner's was trying to fix, "Right now we can on hope that Soraya doesn't lose complete control in whatever world she's in, the best we can do now is hopefully send this through to the other world and make sure they have the means to keep her safe and to prevent any disasters" Fury stood next to a large metal crate.
"You know she won't like that, besides do you think she's cause trouble in some other world" Spiderman said as Conner's began activating the machine "It's the only way we can be sure that she doesn't come back as that monster and hopefully we can bring her back before either she or Blade get any ideas" as a large portal opened up Colson pushed the crate in and then the portal closed. "Fury even if they can prevent her from causing trouble, Soraya will never forgive you for letting them have it, I know that girl we may not get along much but still even I wouldn't go this far" Stark said looking concerned about what Soraya would think about Fury sending that thing to that world.
Fury walked passed both hero's but stop momentarily "I realize that Stark, but for the sake of keeping that woman from destroying herself I have no choice but to leave it in their hands, I'm sure even she will understand even if she hates me for it" as Fury left Spiderman couldn't help but think what would happen when that world get the crate and what they would make of it and how they might use it.
Unknown Location
Though the team was skeptical about this whole testing scenario they had decided to accompany the league to an undisclosed location to watch the event unfold, after Batman had explained what would happen to the girl the whole team was informed to meet the league at the beach near Mount Justice so they could take them all, during the trip over the girl kept her distance from the team and the other leaguers.
"So what you guys think they'll do with her" M'Gann Asked telepathically to the others, "Who know, maybe they'll fight her to see how strong she is without her going crazy" Kid Flash said "Wally right, that girl is creepy and I want to know just what she made of without all those creepy powers of her's" Rocket said, the other glanced back to watch the girl she hadn't moved from her seat and was staring out the window of the ship avoiding everyone's glares.
After traveling for some time the Team landed on an island covered in trees and a large volcano at the center, the team walked out onto a large stretch of beach and looked around anyone from the league.
Soraya came out and walked up to the forest, she'd seen islands with large dense trees but this one seemed strange, she looked back at the team and saw they were still looking for someone so she decided to go in to see what the league had set up.
"Hey where's the girl?" Kid flash said as the other noticed the girl was gone, "Damn she must have wander off" Artemis said as she kicked the sand in annoyance, We better find Tornado and tell him she's gone" Robin said as they went off looking for Red Tornado.
Kaldur was behind them when he heard a large crash from behind, the other turned around and saw a large dust cloud coning form the forest, "Well we know where she is now" Kid flash said as the ran off in the direction of the cloud.
As the ran through the forest they came to the edge of a clearing and saw what was happening, they saw multiple machines running around the girl and were trying to attack her but each time one took a swing or attacked the girl countered that machine or destroyed it with a simple punch or kick.
The team watched in amazement as the girl countered another machine by dodging it easyly and then spun around and punch it and sent it flying into another machine, "Amazing, she not even using any powers against those things" M'Gann said as she continued to watch, the others were impressed but wondered what was going on.
As Soraya took down the last machine she turn around and looked up at the three adults standing on top if the cliff, "Next" she said looking bored, the team looked up and saw Batman, Green Arrow and Dr Fate watching the girl.
"Looks like green arrow impressed but I can tell with Batman or Fate" Rocket said, the team waited to see what would happen next until Batman tossed something down, Soraya caught the object and the team saw it was two swords.
"What she gonna do with those" Kid flash asked but before anyone could answer Wonder woman came out holding a sword and shield, "Next test, your to show your combat skills" Batman shouted, Soraya looked back and looked annoyed.
"If you really want to test my combat skill I'm gonna need more than just one fighter" Soraya shouted Wonder woman didn't look happy, but Batman waved his hand and Black Canary and Hawkgirl came out ready to fight.
"Ok now this will be interesting" Soraya said as she tied her swords to her hip and took out both swords and prepared to fight, "Be ready, we won't go easy on you" Wonder woman shouted as she and the other prepared themselves.
The team saw the girl smile and heard a small laugh, "Well that good to know, cause if you don't come at me with everything you got" as she raised her swords up "You might get hurt" as she charged forward quicker than anything the team had ever seen.
