Words could not explain how excited I was to be going to the ball. I've been to many balls (even some in my honor) but this was different because I finally had a date. Not a fake date that was incredibly awkward and set up by one of my dad's publicists, I real date. Someone who I actually like, and who, I hoped, actually liked me. Meaning that at this ball I would have a peer to laugh with about Dr. Steve's awkward interactions and I would finally have someone to dance with my age. I was beyond excited for this day.
I called Macey and told her about the ball and she became excited as well-fussing over what I was going to wear. We settled on having me borrow her dress. The dress was gorgeous, as it was the exact dress that Anne Hathaway wore in the Princess Diaries. I did however refuse to wear a tiara, which drove Macey into a frenzy to figure out what to do with my hair. She decided to put it in a long updoe with a headband that resembled a crown. I decided to not argue because I was scheduled to leave with Zach in 2 minutes and a spy is never late.
"Wow," Macey said as she stepped back, "I really put did myself this time."
I turned around and I was stunned as well. It was as if I was Mia Thermopolis being transformed into a beautiful princess, "Wow Macey."
"Wow is right." Zach's voice said from the door. I turned around to see him leaning in the doorframe with a tuxedo on. He looked so handsome, but cute at the same time because he hadn't tied his bowtie yet.
Macey, being a perfectionist, noticed it immediately, "Your bowtie is meant to be tied Zachary. Do not show up to an event as big as the Summit Ball without your bowtie tied.
"Relax, Mace," Zach smirked lazily, "It's an hour drive, I think I'll be more comfortable tying it before I get out of the car."
"What about Cammie? She has to be all dressed in the car the entire time. That's not fair to her now is it?"
"Well I mean, I wouldn't mind her being undressed the entire ride." Zach's green eyes glint mischivously.
"Woah! Remember my dad's the first agent, therefore he can get you and your family killed in a variety of ways."
Zach coughs, "Right. Let's go."
He crooks his arm and slip my arm into his.
"Wow, this event is pretty big." Zach says as he ties his bow tie.
"It always is." I can hardly wait to enjoy the night with Zach.
His seems just as excited as he runs to my side of the car and opens it for me, "After you my lady."
He offers me his hand as he closes the door, "Wow, there's a lot of people here."
"Yeah," Top agents from all around the world were here, "But you don't seem nervous."
He shrugged, "You've been doing it since you were five, how hard could it be?"
"Luckily for you, with so many people here you won't have to meet my dad."
"You're father seems very nice." Zach silently leads me to the dance floor.
"Zach, what are you doing?" Nobody's dancing. I don't like dancing.
"Place your hand here." Zach grabs my hands and puts them around my neck.
"Nobody's dancing, Zach," I hiss.
"We are." Zach smirks.
I feel the eyes of the entire room on us. But for some reason, I wasn't uncomfortable- in fact I was the opposite. I have never felt like I belonged as much as did in that moment in Zach's arms. I went through the evening as if I was on cloud nine, the only thing keeping me from floating away was Zach's hand.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen," My father said through a microphone as the music was turned off, "I would like to take a moment to congratulate all agents of the United States for their successful missions. Especially to Mr.-" There was a loud cracking sound as the lights powered off. Chaos occurred next. Who would attack a room filled with highly trained operatives? As a first instinct, along with every operative in the room I looked to fight the intruders- but Zach's strong hand led me through a secret passage way.
"Zach! What are you doing? We need to help!"
"No! I need to get you safe." He continued to lead me down the passageway until we came to First Garage. As try to run away from him and back to the fighting scene he grabs my waist and keeps me from escaping. Suddenly a black car comes by and Zach opens the door to shove me in. Was he crossing me? But as I look in the car and see my dad, Uncle Joe, Chuck, and Drew. I look to Zach, expecting him to come in the car with us.
"Chameleon is with Eagle, personal security is no longer needed within the building," Zach says into a comms unit as he shuts the door on me. Zachary Goode wasn't in love with me, he was just doing his job as my secret security guard. I feel my whole world crashing down.
