One More Time.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Weiss paused her hammering for a moment to stare at the jet black door in front of her. She strained her ears in an effort to detect any sign of life beyond the thick oak barrier but she was met with silence. With a huff, she raised her hand again and pounded the door again, this time calling out to the room's occupants.
"Blake, Winter! Open up this instant! I need to talk to you!" A muffled groan emanated from the other side of the door as her only response. The sound was followed by heavy footsteps that ended in a loud crash. Several more loud bangs and crashes came from within the room ending with what sounded like a shower being turned on. Finally after what seemed like forever the door opened to reveal a much disheveled looking, and very pissed off, Blake Belladonna.
Weiss felt her face flush under Blake's gaze and she smiled sheepishly as she suddenly remembered that her friend usually had late night and early morning classes this time of the week. Tired red-rimmed eyes rooted her to the spot as a long suffering sigh passed through the dark haired girl's lips. Raking a hand through her tussled black hair Blake, stepped aside and pushed open the door giving her friend access into the room.
"Come on in Weiss. Make yourself at home. Your sister is in the shower, do you want me to get her for you?" Blake asked, her annoyance lacing her voice as she sat down on her bed that took up her side of the room. Weiss shook her head as she entered, it wasn't often that she came down to this dorm room. More often than not, Blake, Pyrrha, and herself hung out in Pyrrha's dorm or at the Tivoli. This dorm was usually reserved for upperclassman so the situation suited Weiss just fine.
The room was slightly larger than hers and Ruby's but one wouldn't know that at first glance. Books lined every wall and were stacked on every flat surface available within the room. Thick Curtains covered the rooms singular window reminding her once again that Blake and her sister were both primarily night students. Feeling thoroughly embarrassed and a little bit shamed Weiss hesitantly seated herself on the bed opposite of Blake.
They sat there in silence. Blake leaning back, her arms crossed tightly over the haphazardly thrown on t-shirt. Her amber eyes raking over Weiss's form before fixating on her friends own eyes. Weiss took a deep shaky breath and turned away from Blake's scrutiny. Suddenly the floor seemed like the most interesting thing in the world and she began to stare at it intently as she began to speak, hoping her voice sounded more apologetic than nervous.
"Look, I know this is a bad time b-but I really need some help." Weiss's voice hitched at the end of her sentence. Her nerves getting the better of her.
Blake's gaze softened and all the annoyance faded from her demeanor at once and in a flash she had gotten up and moved to sit beside the white haired girl. Placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"Are you okay, did something happen with Ruby? Did she….did she turn you down?"
Weiss let out a short humorless laugh at that and leaned into her friends touch.
"No, nothing like that I'm afraid. Its actually the opposite that's the problem….she um well her sister actually invited me to attend a concert with them this evening. More like goaded me into going is more like but what's done is done I suppose. I even told Ruby that it was a date. "
Blake nodded in mute understanding of her friends' predicament. While she didn't know Yang all that well her reputation as being someone who liked to poke and tease at people like Weiss was of common knowledge on campus. Blake let out another sigh as she tried to figure out the best response, neither of them hearing the shower stopping in the next room.
"OK, so what's the problem? Isn't this what you've been waiting for? A chance to go out with Ruby and spend time with her outside of working on school work together?" Blake asked her voice reflecting her confusion at Weiss's predicament. Weiss sighed herself as she stood up and began pacing the length of the room.
"I know, I know alright? This is my chance but…I can't help but feel nervous. Blake I barely even tolerate her music. How can I go to a concert showcasing such music and have to pretend that I don't hate it? I don't want to do that to her, she'll know if I'm lying and oh god Blake you should have seen her face. The way her eyes lit up when I said I'd go with her… I-I just don't want to disappoint her Blake, over the past few weeks she's become very important to me and I really don't want to disappoint her.
"Well, well. My little sister has gone out and got herself a date. How come I haven't heard of her? "a cool voice called out from the corner of the room.
Weiss bristled at the words as she turned to face her older, and definitely annoying, Sister Winter Schnee. Dressed in a loose tank top and jeans the woman gave off an air of superiority without much effort. Such an effortless display of power had served the white haired woman well in her chosen degree in business. To simply put it, no matter what situation was, when Winter was in the room there was absolutely no question as to who was in charge. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you looked at it, Winter always took her job as 'big sister' very seriously.
"Hello Winter." Weiss said with a small smile. Her sister grinned and moved to sit in-between the two, slinging her arms around Weiss and pulling her into a small hug. Her voice was full of laughter as she pressed an affectionate kiss to her sister's forehead, much to Weiss's distaste.
"Long time no see Snowflake, How have you been? Keeping up on your studies I hope."
Weiss rolled her eyes and gently attempted to squirm out from under Winter's grip. Her older sister griped her tight and soon Weiss gave up and let herself be held by her overly affectionate sister. It wasn't like Blake was going to tell anyone seeing as she was in the same predicament, a dark red blush forming on the raven haired girls face.
"I'm sorry Winter, it's been a crazy few weeks. And yes my studies are all well withing acceptable ranges thank you." Winter ruffled her younger sister's hair, letting out yet another laugh.
"I know how it is darling. Now….. "Winter paused as if unsure how to go on. While helping Weiss achieve her professional goals had always been easy for her, personal ones were of another matter entirely. "Um…. it sounds like you are having some relationship issues." Weiss blushed.
"Well, we aren't really in a relationship yet. But um…" Weiss trailed off. Blake rolled her eyes at the two sisters and gently reached over and nudged Winter's shoulder, gesturing to Weiss's downcast look. Taking the hint Winter cleared her throat and placed a comforting hand on her little sisters back.
"Ah, I see that is very interesting. My little sister is fawning over someone instead of the other way around that certainly is new." Winter said hurriedly. Trying her best to sound reassuring and well meaning. "Well. What can I do to help my sister's date go well?"
"U-Uhm you wouldn't happen to have a spare set of clothes I could burrow would you? Most of my attire isn't what I think would be acceptable to this sort of concert."
Winter held up her hand stopping Weiss from continuing. Her tone making it clear that she was in business mode now. An area that thankfully for the both of them, she was very well versed in.
"I'm sure I have something lying around that should be fine but before we start rummaging through my sizeable wardrobe tell me who's headlining?" Weiss stared blankly at her causing the older sister to let out a long suffering sigh before stating simply. "What Band is playing tonight? "
"Oh um…. I actually am not sure, I think it's some sort of electronic band. Draft Puck? No that's not it…"
"Daft Punk? Blake supplied helpfully from her position next to Winter. Weiss smiled in thanks and nodded. "Yes I believe that's the one. Their preforming some tribute to an album called…Discovery? I'm not entirely sure. "Winter remained silent for several long seconds. Appearing to be lost in thought.
Suddenly she stood from the bed and rushed over to her dresser, after rummaging for several moments she turned back to Weiss, holding up an outfit along with a small black CD case with the title "Daft Punk Discovery." printed on the cover.
"Well you said you were worried about not being able to relate to her right? Well let's fix that." Weiss felt herself blush self-consciously but nodded mutely her assent. She suddenly had a feeling that she had gotten herself in way over her head.
Ruby
After some deep thought and consideration, Ruby Rose had to admit, she was freaking the fuck out. From the moment that Weiss had disappeared earlier that afternoon, it was all she could do. Every fiber of her being felt as though it was on edge and jittery. Practically abuzz with excitement and nerves she had been barely able to sit still for hours. Ruby had spent a better part of the last hour alone pacing her room until finally she deemed it was an appropriate time to shower and prep for the concert.
While she had been to hundreds of concerts over the years and done so with numerous friends, dancing with a multitude of girls that she met at each concert. This time it was different. This wasn't about the lights, or the beat, or even of euphoria she got every time she was in the middle of a crowd.
No, this time it was something far more enticing and way more important. This was her chance, her chance to prove that she could be good girlfriend material, and she didn't want to fuck it up.
Part of her was ecstatic that Weiss had agreed to come, despite the fact that Yang had technically been the one to push her into it by challenging her. Never the less the fact that she would get to share music from one of her all-time favorite artists with Weiss made up for the fact that she was kind of ticked at Yang.
Another part of her wanted to curl up into a ball and hide under her bed, for a month at least. Despite all her confidence and bravado that she normally exuded Ruby couldn't shake the feeling of anxious inadequacy that had been plaguing her ever since she first started crushing on her white haired roommate.
Weiss came from a prominent business family, was studying criminal law and she was all around perfect. Ruby? Well she was just the daughter of a police officer. Studying music theory and theater. And if by some chance that tonight went to hell and she blew it what then? How would she be able to face Weiss in the morning?
Guess that's future Ruby's problem' she thought idly as she reached out and twisted the shower knob, halting the cascade of hot-steaming water.
After drying her hair with her towel, Ruby found herself staring at the steam covered bathroom mirror that hung over the sink next to the shower. After glancing around self-consciously, she reached out with the tips of her index and middle finger, she drew a heart with the words "Ruby + Weiss" written within its steam covered boundaries. Looking at the masterpiece caused a beaming smile to appear on her face, as well as a major blush.
"Jesus." She muttered to herself as she appraised the mark. "I'm acting like a love sick teenager." Ruby chuckled as she realized that was pretty much exactly what she was. She turned to leave the bathroom then paused, turning back to the mirror, and before she could really think about what she was doing or why she was doing it, she pulled her phone out of her pocket and snapped a picture of the heart and the names and immediately saved it to her phone.
Before exiting the Bathroom, Ruby wiped the mirror off and gave herself a once over in the mirror one last time. She was wearing a red hoodie, with a black undershirt, her black torn jeans were complimented by her midnight black Converse. Satisfied with her look for the evening she exited the bathroom. Casting a nervous glance at the clock in the room she felt her heart twinge uncomfortably in her chest, and started to wonder where the hell Weiss was, after all she was supposed to be here 5 minutes ago and she had never known Weiss to be anything but punctual.
After another three minutes of doggedly staring at the clock, her anxiety finally got the best of her. With a defeated sigh, Ruby pulled her phone out of her pocket, so nervous that she accidentally dropped it on the floor.
"Damn this thing..." She muttered under her breath as she went to pick up. Once sure that she wouldn't drop it again, she dialed Yang's number and after a few rings her ever exuberant sister finally picked up and practically shouted into the line causing Ruby to wince. "Hey lil sis? What's up? Say where are you and Snow-Angel at? We're getting ready to leave. Everything okay?"
"Yang." Ruby began, holding the phone out from her a bit should her sister continue at her current volume. "I'm actually calling about Weiss, Have you seen her? She isn't here yet and I'll be legit, im starting to flip the fuck out." She said her voice going up an octave towards the end betraying her continuously fraying nerves.
"Hey hey hey sis..relax! I'm sure she's just making sure she looks perfect for you..don't sweat it too much, she wouldn't miss this for the world. Trust me." Yang replied, attempting to calm her little sis down. Ruby raised her eyebrows slightly at this. Velvet must have given Yang a throughout beating if she was now willing to give Weiss the benefit of the doubt.
After several tense moments of silence Ruby sighed. "Alright, I hope you're right Yang. Anyway I don't want to keep you guys waiting so if haven't showed up in 20 go ahead and head on out. Just hock my ticket at the gate. See you soon.." They exchanged sober goodbyes and Ruby hung up.
Ruby stood up from her bed and returned to what she had been doing prior to her shower. Pacing back and forth along her dorm room floor. She was in the middle of contemplating weather one could actually wear a rut into a floor from pacing when she heard the dorm rooms lock click and her heart stopped. Turning to the source of the sound cool silver met crystal blue and time seemed to slow and her heart began to pound heavily in her chest. As Ruby found herself face to face with the most beautiful person she had ever laid eyes upon.
Weiss Schnee.
