Hey gang! Sorry it's been so long; I've had other stories and school going on so this guy's been sitting on my computer for a long time. But anyways, here's the next chapter of "Risen From the Ashes"!

Chapter 2

It had been another successful night. Sometimes Dark wondered if he should let the police catch him just to shake things up a little; it was almost too easy.

But Dark was a bit of an adrenaline junkie. He loved the feel of it: narrowly dodging the guards, getting past the inside security, grabbing his designated work of art, and making off with it into the night.

All in a night's work for a phantom thief.

Dark sailed through the air with his latest steal securely stuffed into Daisuke's pack.

Daisuke Niwa was Dark's "trainer"; in other words, Dark borrowed Daisuke's body from time to time and remained sealed inside the fourteen year old boy the rest of the time. But the only way he could take control was when Daisuke felt the unrequited love of Risa Harada, and vice versa. He often complained that he didn't get out enough.

Dark suddenly felt something change in the air somewhere to the west. He stopped his flight and hovered for a moment, watching. And then he saw it: a person was plummeting head first towards the sea below.

Dark went into a steep dive and caught the faller at the last moment, one hand under their knees, the other behind their shoulders.

It was a girl, probably no more than thirteen or fourteen years old, with bright red hair and wearing jeans, sneakers, and a form-fitting grey T-shirt. A heavy looking pendant hung around her neck, and Dark felt his shared heart skip a beat as he recognized it.

"That's not possible . . ."

"What is it Dark?" Daisuke asked from within Dark's mind.

"That's the Stone of Rebirth; I could've sworn I sealed it away years ago!"

"What is the Stone of Rebirth?"

Dark explained the story behind the Stone as he flew back toward the Niwa residence. Emiko needed to know about this and hopefully take care of her. The girl's hair flew gently across her peaceful face and she opened her eyes. They were beautiful: wide, intelligent, and such a deep green they were almost blue. Those eyes traveled to Dark's face and the girl gasped.

"You're—"

"It's all right; you're safe. But that would've been a nasty fall." Dark teased. The girl blushed slightly as she looked down at the height from which they were flying. Her arms were suddenly locked around Dark's neck with a squeal.

"Whoa there."

"Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh . . ."

"Are you scared of heights or something?" Dark wondered and felt the redhead nod against the crook of his neck.

Well, that's new, Dark chuckled to himself as he swooped down and landed gently on Daisuke's balcony so he could set the girl on her feet. She must've been more exhausted then she let on, because as soon as the girl tried to stand, her knees wobbled violently and she collapsed again into Dark's arms.

"You must've really been through something; what's your name little star?" He asked, referring to the girls dramatic descent from the sky.

"A-Ayame. Ayame Yamada. But everyone calls me Aya." The girl replied, dropping her gaze from Darks'. The phantom thief smiled to himself and carried Aya downstairs to where Emiko was finishing up some of the dishes. She looked startled when she saw the redhead being carried bridal style in Dark's arms, but quickly recovered and began fussing over Aya, who looked ready to drop from exhaustion. While Emiko was preoccupied, Dark pulled the photo of Risa out of his pocket.

Soon, Daisuke was watching the redhead on the couch breathe deeply with sleep. Daisuke's rabbit With hopped up onto her stomach and made himself comfortable with a "Kyuu" noise.

Miss Yamada . . .has a nice ring to it, Daisuke thought. If it weren't so late and she was already asleep, Daisuke would've liked to get to know her better, but that would have to wait until morning.

So it is kinda short, and I apologize, but I'm gonna try to make the next one a little bit longer. Not sure when I'm gonna get to it, but it'll be there when I post it! Have a good night everyone!
