Damon's Daughter
Chapter 18
Even Vampires Have Bad Days
A/N: I AM SOOO SORRRY FOR THE WAIT. This chapter was literally just sitting in my documents waiting to be published. I've just been so busy/lazy. But I'm back! :DD Here's some cute Emma/Elijah fluff for everyone! There's some Klaus/Emma in the next chapter!

I was hungry. Very, very, very hungry, and very, very bored, which isn't a great mix. I sat on the cold floor of the basement, draining every single blood bag we had, and I still wasn't able to fill up. Those are the days I hate being a vampire. As I drained the last blood bag my teeth and gums started to hurt. I sighed and rubbed my temples. "Dammit," I mumbled. When I don't have fresh human blood for a certain amount of time I start to get a bit moody and blood thirsty, and the urges only stop after I've fed on an innocent human and pretty much bled them dry, which is frowned upon in Mystic Falls. I sighed and rested my head against the wall, feeling a headache coming on.

When I heard the doorbell ring I groaned and picked myself off the floor. When I opened the door Elijah's face greeted me. And he looked good. He was not in his typical suit, but in a pair of dark jeans and a purple button down shirt.

I raised my eyebrows and smirked. "Well, hello, Mr. Mikaelson. Nice to see you again."

Elijah smiled. "Nice to see you too, Darling. May I come in?"

"Well, that depends," I smiled, resting my head on the doorframe.

"Depends on what?"

"Whether or not you're going to ask me to your mother's ball tonight."

Elijah laughed and pulled a small piece of paper out of his pocket. "Ahh, so you want this?" he said, displaying the invitation.

"Mmmhmm."

"Then invite me in."

"Well, if you insist," I mock sighed and signaled for him to come in.

Elijah smirked and started to walk towards me. "Are you planning on getting real clothes on, or are you just going to wear your pajamas all day?"

I looked down at my clothes. I had almost forgotten that I was still wearing my blue and purple polka dot pajamas. I shrugged and took his arm. "I'd like to stay in my pjs, but I'll have to go dress shopping and feed sometime soon."

He looked at me in confusion. "Feed? Have the cravings started again?"

I sighed in response. "I went too long without feeding on something fresh, and now they've come back. Will you go with me when I feed, just so I don't kill someone?"

Elijah looked at me with pity and nodded. "Yes, I'll go with you. When are you planning on leaving?"

"As soon as I get dressed and do something with my hair," I replied.

"Emma, I'm not sure I can wait a whole hour."

"Ha, ha," I said, rolling my eyes. "Give me five minutes and then we can leave."

"So, which one is it going to be? The young lady over there looks pretty tasty," Elijah commented as he took my hand.

We were walking the square of Mystic Falls, trying to find someone for me to feed on.

"No, she's too young," I replied. "She has a life, a future ahead of her. If I accidently kill her that future won't exist anymore. I'm trying to find someone who will probably be in jail or something in the next year or so, that way I won't feel too awful if I kill them."

"Ahh, I see," Elijah hummed. "Well, if you're looking for a future criminal, I think the morons to your left, the ones trying to break into the blue car, might just be your best bet."

I glanced to where Elijah was gesturing and sure enough two boys, probably about sixteen, were trying to break into a minivan. I rolled my eyes and turned to Elijah. "I don't think I can take them both at once. I'm not strong enough."

"That's why you should stop living off blood bags. You need to start having some fresh blood at least once a month. And I'll help you with the other moron. Okay?"

I sighed. "Okay. But not in the middle of town. We'll pull them into the back alley. I can't afford for anyone to see me."

Elijah nodded. "You ready?"

I gave him a small nod and rushed over to the men trying to break into the car. I grabbed one and quickly ran into the alleyway with him, Elijah behind me. I pinned the man to the hard brick wall of a random building while Elijah made sure the other one didn't escape.

"You know, it's not very nice to break into innocent people's cars, jackass," I smirked.

"Please," the boy panted. "Please don't hurt me."

I sighed. "What's your name?"

"Da- David," he stuttered.

"Listen, David. I'm really sorry about this, but if I don't take at least a sip, I'll get really crazy, crazier than I already am, and go on a killing spree. If that happens, just about everyone here will die. You don't want their blood on your hands, do you?"

"No, no, of course not."

"Good," I smiled, sugar in my voice, and before David could say anything else I sunk my fangs into his neck.

I cannot explain the feeling of feeding on a living human. It's almost orgasmic, which is what makes it so hard to stop. I pulled David closer to me, savoring the taste of his blood. I was getting lost in feeding when I heard Elijah's voice. But I ignored it. Seconds later Elijah took my arm and pulled me away from David, who was close to death.

"Dammit, Elijah, I'm hungry," I growled.

"I understand, but I know you. If he dies you'll never forgive yourself," he firmly said, and bent down to heal David. I turned away from them and saw David's friend, who was frozen in terror. I smiled and made my way towards him.

When he saw me he gulped and stepped back.

"Oh, dear, don't be afraid," I smiled sweetly. "I couldn't hurt a face as pretty as yours."

The man suddenly stopped backing away from me and instead took a step forward. "Is David going to be okay?" He asked, his voice unwavering.

"Of course! Now, don't be afraid, but I'm going to sink my fangs into your neck and take a drink. Please refrain from screaming," I compelled. He nodded and I quickly sunk my fangs into his neck. He didn't taste as well as David did, but I was so hungry I didn't care. As I was getting lost in feeding once more, the man spoke.

"You know, if this didn't hurt so bad, I'd be glad that someone as hot as you was sucking on my neck."

Before I could even think about replying the man was torn away from me. I spun around to find the man's lifeless body on the floor and Elijah holding his heart.

I sighed. "Elijah, you just wasted a perfectly good breakfast."

He smirked and dropped the heart. "I think you've had enough to eat." He started to reach into his pocket for a handkerchief when he suddenly remembered he didn't have one with him.

"Do you have any napkins in your purse? I need to wash this blood off before I stain my shirt," Elijah asked.

I laughed, wiped my mouth, and reached for my purse, when I noticed David cowering in a corner. My smile was quickly replaced with a frown and I walked over to him. I got down on one knee so I was looking him in the face.

"Are you going to kill me?" He wept.

I shook my head. "No, of course not. I'm sorry about your friend. What was his name?"

"He wasn't a friend, he was a dick. And his name was Devon. Devon Erikson."

"Ahh… You know, you seem like a really smart guy, David, so why the hell were you trying to break into a piece of shit minivan?" I smirked.

David shrugged and wiped his eyes. "It was a stupid decision. I don't even know why."

I nodded. "Look, David, I'm not going to kill you, but you've got to promise me two things, okay?"

He narrowed his eyes and nodded. "Okay."

"First, you've got to promise me that you won't say anything about what happened today. Anything. If anyone asks you about Devon, tell them he stole a car and left. Tell them that you have no idea where he is. Then, promise me you'll stop robbing piece of shit cars, finish high school, go to college, and have a nice, normal life, because I know you're better than this scared little kid you look like now."

David nodded. "Okay, I promise."

I smiled and got to my feet. "I mean it, David. Don't waste your life away with idiots like him," I said, gesturing to Devin's heartless body.

"I promise, ma'am," David replied as he brushed the dirt off his jeans.

I laughed. "Ma'am? Try Emma. I'll see you at school Monday, David."

He blushed and smiled back at me. "Okay, see you around, Emma." And then he gave me a small wave and turned to leave. Once he was gone I reached into my purse for the napkins Elijah needed.

"You know, you can't kill every guy who thinks I'm hot," I mumbled.

"But I can try," Elijah deadpanned, walking towards me. "And you were enjoying playing with him a bit too much, don't you think?"

I smirked and threw an old napkin at him. "I was just having fun. That was the first time I'd fed on a human in months."

"Darling, you should really stop living off blood bags. They make you weak, you know that."

"I know, Elijah. But I don't like killing people. If you wouldn't have stopped me David would be dead. I don't have any self-control."

Elijah sighed as he wiped the blood off his hands. "How about this? You have to feed on someone at least once a week, but I'll go with you to make sure you don't kill them. That way you're always strong and the ridiculous cravings will stop. Deal?"

I pursed my lips and nodded. "Okay, deal. Now, what are we going to do with the douchebag's body?" I asked, gesturing to Devin.

Elijah turned to the body, scrunched his nose and bit his lip, which I shouldn't have found so attractive, especially since we were talking about a dead guy.

"I'll call Klaus and have him take care of it. He owes me anyway," He replied and reached into his pocket for his phone. "And we should probably go find you a dress to wear tonight."

"Good idea," I said and pulled out my phone. "I should probably call Damon and let him know I'll be gone for most of the day, otherwise he gets worried."

Elijah finished his text to Klaus and nodded. "Okay, I'll go start the car. Klaus said he'd be here in about five minutes, and I plan to be gone by then."

"Me too," I smiled. I pressed the phone against my ear as Elijah strolled to his Mercedes, and as usual, I got Damon's voicemail. I rolled my eyes. "Hey, it's me. I just wanted to tell you I'll be out all day. I need to find a dress for the ball tonight. Call me back when you can. Bye." As I hung up the phone I spotted Klaus' black SUV and quickly jogged to Elijah's car, not in the mood to deal with Klaus.

When I reached the car Elijah smirked at me, a mysterious glint in his eyes.

"What?" I asked, feigning innocence.

"So you're avoiding him too?" He grinned.

I rolled my eyes. "Shut up and drive."

I don't enjoy shopping. As a matter of fact, I hate it, but somehow it was tolerable when Elijah was with me. It was also much easier. I knew Elijah would always tell me what did and did not look good on me, and he tended to make the time go by faster. Unfortunately, time was still dragging on like a tortoise. We'd been to nearly eight different stores and I still hadn't found a single dress I liked. I was beginning to get a bit frustrated.

"Why don't I just borrow one of Rebekah's dresses?" I whined as we entered another store.

"Because you need a dress for tonight, a nice one. Not one of Rebekah's hand me downs," Elijah replied. He took a purple dress off the hanger and looked at me with pleading eyes. "What about this one?"

I put my hands over my chest like a petulant child. "No. It's too… sparkly. And the entire back is missing."

"Emma," Elijah groaned. "This is getting frustrating. There must be something here that you don't abhor."

I sighed and put the dress back. Then I wrapped my arms around Elijah's waist and rested my head on his chest. "Can't we just stay at my house and have sex?" I murmured.

Elijah chuckled and leaned down to kiss my forehead. "I assure you, I prefer your suggestion to the ball, but my mother insists we attend. If it was up to me you'd already be in my bed."

I reluctantly pulled away and smiled. "Well, I suppose we have to find a dress before we can do what we'd like to do."

Elijah took my hand and lightly squeezed it. "Now, that's the spirit."

After I tried on my third dress I could tell that Elijah was getting slightly annoyed. He sat in the chair opposite the dressing room as he massaged his temples.

"Emma, please just come out. That dress looks beautiful on you," he pleaded.

From inside the dressing room I shook my head. "I can't wear this one. It looks too much like Rebekah's dress," I whined. "I don't want the same dress as someone else."

I heard Elijah sigh and get up from his chair. "I'm going to go get some coffee. Would you like something?"

"I'd like a dress to look nice on me," I mumbled.

Elijah smirked. "I'll be back shortly. Try to find something soon, please. We don't have much time left."

As his footsteps echoed on the linoleum floor of the dressing room I unzipped the red dress I had been wearing. Yes, it did look rather nice on me, but I wanted something original. I had this urge to impress Esther and I craved her approval for some reason. Maybe it was because I knew she had the ability to convince Elijah that I wasn't good enough for him, which I'm not. I never have been. He's always so calm and reserved while I'm dramatic and talkative. He's always been so perfect and I'm… just not. A knock on the door tore me away from my thoughts.

"Miss, are you finished with this dress? I've brought two more back," the clerk helping me said.

I smiled and put the dress on its rack. "Yes, I'm finished with this one. Hand over the others."

The lady opened the door slightly and slid the two dresses in.

I smiled as I took them from her. "Thank you, Angie. I really appreciate your help. I don't really care for dress shopping."

The elderly lady smiled back at me. "Oh, dear, I'm only doing my job. Where did your fella go?"

"To get us some coffee, I think. It's been a long day."

Angie nodded. "Well, I'll leave you to it then! I'm in the other room if you need anything, dearie!"

I smiled at her and quickly unzipped the covering on one of the dresses. As soon as I spotted the intricate beading on the bodice I knew this was the dress. It was a light blue strapless dress that would complement my eyes, and just by looking at it I could tell it would complement my figure. It was also just so different from the many dresses I'd been forced to try on. When I zipped the dress up I turned to the mirror, wonder in my eyes. I looked… beautiful. I was so excited I jumped up and down and squealed. I rarely, if ever, squeal. When I opened my eyes and saw my flushed face in the full length mirror I smiled, my excitement building up. I envisioned Elijah's face when he saw me tonight, and the amazing time we would have, and watching Esther preform the tracking spell. I brought one of my mother's old rings to her very early that morning and she promised to do the spell after the ball. I tried to not get my hopes up though. I had to accept that my Mother is probably gone for good, but if she isn't…

Elijah's footsteps tore me away from my reverie and I quickly unzipped the dress, not wanting him to see it just yet. I craved the fairytale moment when I walked down the stairs, seeing his mouth open in wonder and delight. Yes, it was corny, but it was something I dreamed about on a regular basis, maybe because Elijah is anything but unrealistic. I love the man, but sometimes he's so damn practical and no nonsense and it gets pretty aggravating. I used to love that he was so levelheaded, back when I needed someone to hold my hand and guide me to where I needed to go. But I don't need that anymore, not really. I already had my dress back in its covering, my clothes on, and my bottom in a seat near the dressing room when I Elijah strolled in. In his hands were two cups of steaming coffee. When he spotted me he raised his eyebrows. "You found one?"

I hopped out of the chair and smiled at him. "Yep!"

A look of relief crossed his face. "That's great! What's it look like?" He asked, setting the coffee down on the small table.

"That's for me to know and you to find out," I smirked as I picked up my coffee and took a sip.

Elijah narrowed his eyes. "What?"

"You heard me."

I laughed as Elijah's mouth opened and closed like a fish. "But… but I'm paying for it!" He exclaimed.

"Sorry my love. You'll have to wait until tonight, and that's the end of it."

Elijah pursed his lips, prepared to argue but stopped himself. "Okay, okay," he sighed. "Good things come to those to wait, correct? Isn't that the saying?"

I laughed and took my dress off the rack. Elijah then took my free arm and led me towards the counter.

"Can you at least tell me how much this will set me back?" Elijah groaned as he pulled out his wallet.

I looked at him sympathetically and took the wallet out of his fingers. "You really don't want to know," I replied. "In fact, you might want to avoid knowing.

Elijah exhaled. "I'll be sitting on the bench by all the other men."

I laughed and handed the dress to Angie. "I found one!" I smiled.

Angie smiled back at me. "You did? Good for you!"

"Yes, and all because of you. I wouldn't have found it without you!"

"Oh, dear," Angie smiled. "I'm only doing my job." She leaned closer with a strange little smile on her face. "You picked the blue one, right?"

"Yeah! How'd you know?"

She shrugged. "I just know sometimes."

I laughed as Angie finished carefully putting the dress in a box. She handed it to me and I beamed. "Thank you, Angie, really."

She smiled and took my young hand into her old. "It's not a problem dearie. Now, you have a good time at the ball, you hear? That's an order."

I giggled and saw Elijah coming towards us. "I promise! Thanks again!" and then I ran out of the store to meet Elijah. I had finally realized how late it was and all that still had to be done, like my hair.

As soon as I entered my house I spotted Damon who was in an intense battle with a bowtie. He was losing.

"Dude, you're like two hundred years old and can't put on a tie?"

Damon turned to me and smirked. "How was shopping?"

"Boring. I did max out one of Elijah's credit cards though, so I'm quite proud of myself."

He laughed. "That's my girl," he said and went back to struggling with his tie.

I rolled my eyes and walked towards him, fixing his tie. "Why are you already in your suit? We've got four hours before the ball starts?"

"The early bird gets the worm," he smirked.

"Mmhmm," I hummed. "What are you up to?" I fixed his tie and took a step backward, giving him a suspicious look.

"None of your business," Damon leered.

I sighed. "I will find out. You do realize that, right?"

Damon shrugged. "Shouldn't you be getting ready? You only have four hours to get ready, most likely three, because I'm sure Elijah will want you there an hour early, and I don't know if you can fix… that in less than three hours," he smirked as he gestured to my hair.

I rolled my eyes. "Don't you have somewhere to be?"

He looked down at his wrist, which lacked a watch, and gasped. Damon looked at me with a dramatic, horrified face. "You're right! I should go, shouldn't it? That or I'll be late, late, late!"

I laughed and shooed him out of the house. "Go. After all, I only have three hours to get ready," I smirked.

Damon leaned against the doorframe and smiled. "I'll see you tonight… I hope. I doubt you'll be there in time, judging by how long it takes you to get ready in the morning."

I gave him a glare and slammed the door shut. As I ran towards the stairs I stopped to examine myself in the mirror. When I saw my messy hair and flushed complexion I sighed. I had a lot of work to do.

By the time I'd gotten my shower, makeup on, hair done, and dress on it was almost time for one of the Mikaelson's drivers to pick me up in the limousine. I was reapplying my light red lipstick when the doorbell rang. "Coming!" I shouted and carefully made my way down the stairs. The last thing I needed was to ruin my hair.

"I'm really sorry for the wait," I said cordially as I opened the door. "I didn't get home until-" I suddenly gasped. The Mickaelsons didn't just send me a driver. They sent Kol.

"Hello, Emma. It's so lovely to see you," Kol said. He took my arm and led me towards the limo. "You look absolutely ravishing," he smirked.

I rolled my eyes as he opened the door for me. After I sat down Kol slid in beside me.

"Driver, please bring us to the Mikaelson Estate, and speed it up. My dear brother is dying to see Emma in her pretty dress," Kol ordered, shooting me a sly look. The driver nodded and we were on our way.

"So," Kol began. "It's very nice to officially meet the woman Elijah is absolutely head over heels for. It's about time, really. I never thought he'd love again after what happened to his dear Tatia."

I quickly decided that I didn't like Kol. He was mocking and pretentious, two things I despised. Elijah wasn't kidding when he said Kol was a bit of an ass. I politely nodded to Kol and turned to look out the window.

"When did you two meet, if I may ask?" Kol probed.

"October 25, 1885. Some dick tried to feel me up in a bar, Elijah tried to step in, I beat the dick's ass, and Elijah walked me home."

Kol let out a roaring laugh. "Yes, I knew I'd like you. So… spunky!"

I turned to Kol and smirked. "You have no idea." He was about to reply when the limo pulled into the long driveway. Kol smiled, rushed out of the car, and opened my car door. He politely held out his hand and I took it, letting him lead me to the door. Once I entered the house I stared in wonder. It was beautiful. Esther really knew how to throw a ball.

Kol saw my amazed face and laughed. "Mother is very serious about parties, can you tell?"

"Yeah," I breathed. "It's so beautiful."

"I know. Now, Elijah is pacing back and forth in the study waiting for you. I think you should probably go ease his anxiety," he smirked.

At the mention of Elijah I quickly thanked Kol and walked as fast as I could to the study. And sure enough, Elijah was pacing. I smiled and leaned against the doorframe, waiting for him to stop his incoherent mumbling and look at me. Seeing him so nervous caused me to giggle, and I tried to stifle it with my hand. Unfortunately, Elijah heard me and spun around. I've never seen someone's jaw drop open so fast.

"Emma," he breathed. "You look…"

"Radiant? Stunning? Absolutely lovely?" I offered.

Elijah chuckled. He nervously ran a hand through his hair and took a step towards me. "I was going to say exquisite, but stunning could work."

I smiled and put my arms around his neck. I breathed in his musky cologne and sighed in contentment. Tonight was going to be fun.
