5. The Pain Quickly Ebbed
The pain quickly ebbed
as the gate closed.
It was not a loss now.
There was a whispering voice in his ear
and he was grateful for it.
It gave him hope he'd lost.
It gave him a way.
It promised him the dream
he'd so long sought.
It promised him a gate on the ground
so he wouldn't need wings to reach
but could just walk, with his legs.
He would take good care of those legs
for that day
When he could walk in to the gate
and his dream
finally.
