Chapter 14:
Katya ran like her life depend on it. Deep down she was aware she should probably told someone where she was going but all she could think of was her mum lying there, no one knowing her name. No one looking after her the way she would.
The journey to Starling City General had never taken so long in her enterer life.
"Hi I am looking for the Jane Doe on the missing person's database." Katya said to the nurse at the front desk.
The women frowned at her.
"One moment please." The women replied.
Katya bit her lip to stop herself from asking the women to hurry up. She knew it wasn't the nurse thought but her mum had been gone far too long and Katya needed to see her.
A few moments later another nurse appeared she was short stocky women with short black hair that was going grey.
"Hi, my name is Jackie Williams." The women said holding out her hand.
Katya sighed as she shook the woman's hand.
"Please I just need to see the Jane Doe, I think she's my mother." Katya begged she could feel the tears building in her eyes.
Jackie looked at her sadly before nodding.
"Follow me." she said softly.
Katya followed Jackie round the wards until they came to small room in the corner of the building.
Jackie opened the door but stayed where she was.
"I wait here." Jackie told her.
Katya swallowed hard and nodded. She took a deep breath before walking into the room.
Her mum had always been the strongest person she knew but the women in the bed had never looked more vulnerable.
Katya walked slowly over to her, there was no doubt this was her mother.
She same face shape, she same long unruly curly blonde hair.
"Mum." Katya whispered.
A sob escaped her mouth and her knees gave out and she fell to the ground by her mother's bed.
"Mum." she cried again.
Begging her to say something. She longed to hear her call her baby or honey.
Her mum had been the one to chase the monsters away, to hold her when she cried. Her mum was the one her told her she could be anything, to want the best for her. Her mum was the one who gave her a life that so many people would kill for, that she would killed to have once again.
"Mum." Katya called one last time.
Her sobs became harder and more frequent. Her breathing was becoming difficult.
"Breath, sweetheart." A soft voice ordered from beside her.
Katya tried but she was finding it increasingly difficult. Panic rose within her.
"You're going to be ok." the voice next to her told her.
Katya become faintly aware of someone rubbing comforting circles into her back.
"You are just having a panic attack." the voice added.
Katya nodded.
"Just focus on breathing in and out." the voice ordered.
Katya closed her eyes and did as she was told. In and out. In and out. Over and Over again until slowly breathing become easier.
When Katya opened her eyes she found Jackie sitting next to her gently rubbing her back.
"Thank you." Katya whispered.
Jackie nodded and smiled.
Katya stood up slowly and walked over to her mum she gently took her mum's hand.
"So she is your mother?" Jackie asked and Katya nodded.
"Can I ask her name?" Jackie questioned.
Katya turned to face Jackie.
"Her name is Felicity Smoak." Katya replied.
"It's a pretty name." Jackie told her and Katya nodded in agreement.
"What happened to her?" Katya asked looking back to her mother.
Jackie shrugged her shoulders sadly.
"Your mother was found badly beaten about a month ago." Jackie told her softly.
Katya gasped.
She climb into the bed next to her and put her head on her mum's chest like she used to do every time she got scared when she was a kid.
"I am so sorry mum." Katya cried softly.
"I'm so sorry." she repeated over and over again.
Joe smiled to himself as he saw her running into the hospital. All his waiting had finally paid off. But he knew he wasn't done waiting. He need to make sure Queen new about her first then he would make his move.
Joe sighed happily. His father had always said any child of theirs was be attractive, he had doubted it at first. The first time he saw her she was fifteen and scrawny but now she was stunning. Petite just like her mother was curves in all the right places. This was turning out to be a two for one deal for him. He would get to finally take down Oliver Queen and have fun with a beautiful women in the processes.
Joe Wilson was a patient man. Years and years of planning had gone into the take down of Oliver Queen and he was going to make the most of every moment of it, especially Queens daughter.
"So this was all Slade?" Diggle asked in disbelief.
Oliver sighed frustrated down the phone.
"All that man has ever done since we came off that island is try to destroy my life and now his son wants to do the same, but this time using my daughter." Oliver replied.
"Will protect her." Diggle promised.
Oliver let go off a breath. He knew they would but if Joe was anything like Slade that might not be enough.
"I need to talk to her and tell her everything." Oliver said his voice filled with dread.
"She gone." Jay voice said so loud Oliver could hear him through the phone.
"What?" Oliver demanded already moving towards his car.
Oliver heard rustling before Jay voice called through to him.
"She got some alert on her phone from the missing person database."
"Where at?" Oliver asked.
"Starling city general." Jay replied quickly.
Oliver opened the car door and started his engine knowing he was nearer to the hospital than they were.
"I'll meet you there." Oliver told him.
"Oliver the women in the picture, its Felicity." Jay added before Oliver could put the phone down.
Oliver swallowed hard.
"Ok." Oliver replied before closing the call.
Oliver drove like this life depended on it and then some. If Joe was half as smart as Slade was then he would be watching Felicity and waiting for his chance to get to Katya. It could already be too late.
Oliver shook his head, to rid himself of that thought. He had just found his daughter he was not about to let someone take her from him.
Oliver ran into the hospital, he listened impatiently while the lady at the front desk gave him instructions to Jane Does room. Then he was running again. He stopped just outside the room he had been directed too and he breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Katya curled up to the women in the bed.
Oliver took a deep breath before slowly opening the door.
Katya never moved.
"I am so sorry." Katya whispered.
Oliver closed the door behind him then slowly made his way over to his daughter.
"I am so sorry," she repeated.
Oliver heart broke. Since moment he had met Katya she had been so tough so mature but in this moment he had never seen her look so young.
Oliver eyes looked over at the women she was laying next too. A breath escaped him. She looked the same yet so different. Felicity had always been colourful and bright but her colour was gone. Her faced had aged slightly but not by much. She was still just as beautiful as he remembered. A wave of different emotions ran through him. Guilt, anger, regret, fear, love, relief, worry.
Felicity words ran through his mind.
Take care of her for me.
Oliver sighed deeply before turning his attention to his daughter.
She was crying as she repeated how sorry she was over and over again.
"Katya?" He called softly but she never moved.
Oliver gently put his hand on her shoulder.
"Katya look at me." He ordered softly.
Katya slowly moved so she was sitting up and finally looked at him. There were tears in her bright blue eyes.
"Oh baby, it's going to be ok." He promised. His arms coming round her to bring her close.
"I don't understand any of this." She cried into his chest.
Oliver sighed heavily. It was time. Time to tell her everything about Slade about what Felicity had done to protect her, to protect them both.
Oliver pulled away but didn't let go and looked at Katya.
"No matter what happens I will always protect you." He promised and he hopes to hell he can keep that promise.
Katya nods slowly.
Oliver sits down next to Katya and he tells her everything about Slade, about his fear of being with someone he really cared about and lastly he told her about Joe and how he was coming after her.
Diggle sighed heavily as he follow Jay, Roy and Thea into the hospital. A first Jay had been worried but after Oliver text to say she was safe all Diggle could feel was anger rolling off the boy. Their relationship reminded him so much of Felicity and Oliver relationship. Every time Felicity had done something reckless Olive had been the same worried and then the moment he knew she was safe furious, just like Jay had been with Katya. Diggle had thought he was over watching the obvious sexual tension between two people but clearly not.
When they got to the hospital they found Katya sat on the bed looking down at Felicity and Oliver sitting in the chair both in silence.
They made their way into the room no one said anything all waiting all too unsure what to do next.
Diggle looked down at the women he saw as a little sister and may a silent promise to put a stop to the man that did this too her.
"What happens now?" Katya asked breaking the silence.
Diggle could hear how tired she sounded.
"We have to find Joe." Oliver told her.
Katya nodded.
"I need to go to the lair then." Katya replied standing up.
Jay walked in front of her.
"You go nowhere alone." he told her as a matter of fact.
Katya glanced up at Jay face and Diggle did the same. His anger was clear and by the look on Katya face she saw it too.
Katya nodded. Unlikely Felicity it looked like Katya new when to pick her battles and this certainly wasn't one of them.
Katya looked over at Oliver.
"Mum can't be left alone either." she told him and he nodded in agreement.
Oliver looked over at Diggle.
"I'll get some guys on it." Diggle promised.
"No." Katya yelled.
Diggle looked over at her, startled at her tone.
"It has to be one of us." she told him.
Katya walked over to her mum.
"She's been on her own for too long." she added.
Diggle looked over at Oliver who was looking between his daughter and her mother.
"She won't be alone anymore." Oliver promised.
Katya looked at the all individually as if she was deciding whether she could trust them.
"Thea and I will stay with her now and we will sort out the rest later." Diggle promised when she got to him.
Katya nodded.
"Thank you." she whispered before following Jay out of the room, Oliver and Roy trialled after them.
Diggle looked over at Thea, she had been oddly quite since they had arrived at the hospital.
"You ok?" He asked her softly.
Thea had taken Katya place next to Felicity holding her hand.
Thea shook her head, that's when Diggle noticed the tears.
He sighed heavily before picking up some tissues and taking them over to her.
"She'll be ok." Diggle told her.
He had no idea if that was true or not but he needed to believe that as much as she did.
"It's not that." she said shaking her head.
"Felicity is a fighter I know she would never give up." Thea told him seriously.
Diggle sat down next to Thea and waited for her to continue.
"I was mad at Felicity for such a long time." Thea told him honestly.
"She became my rock after my mum." She said.
A sob escaped her throat and Diggle gently took he hand and squeezed it to comfort her.
"And then she was gone and I was alone again." Thea continued.
"I was so mad at her for leaving me and then I find out she did it all to protect Katya and I can't help but fill guilty." Thea added.
Diggle nodded he understood, because part of him had felt the same way.
"Will make it right." Diggle told Thea.
Thea nodded in agreement.
"We have too." she added.
Katya could feel Jay's anger and it wasn't just because she was sure the pounding of his fists on the training dummy could be heard a mile away, it was because he hadn't spoken a word to her since they got back to the lair. Katya sighed she had done everything she could do with the computers and was now just waiting for the results.
Katya stood up and approached Jay slowly. She was aware her father and Roy watching intently afraid he might hurt her, but Katya knew Jay and not matter how angry he was he would never hurt her. She would bet her life on that.
"Jay." she said softly.
"What?" he snapped.
He continued to punch the training dummy.
"Can we talk?" she asked.
"There is nothing to talk about." he replied.
Katya sighed and took a step forward she knew it might be bad idea to get this close to the training dummy while he pounded his fist into it but she had to take the risk she needed to fix whatever he was mad about.
Jay froze.
Katya watched him intently he was breathing heavy, the sweat was dripping off him and even though she new he was fighting to control himself, Katya could help but admire how attractive he really was.
"Talk to me." she begged softly.
Jay shook his head.
"There is nothing to talk about." he repeated.
Jay moved away from her and began unwrapping his hands.
Katya closed her eyes and sighed in frustration.
"Obviously there is otherwise you wouldn't be acting like a spoilt brat." she replied followed.
Jay turned round.
"I'm acting like a spoilt brat?" he asked in disbelief.
"Yes." she spat.
Jay shook his head and walked away.
"What the hell is your problem?" She yelled.
Jay turned and looked at her then.
"What the hell is my problem?" he asked his voice dark and furious.
Katya narrowed her eyes and him and nodded.
"My problem is that even after I told you, your mother was so afraid for your life that she somehow got me sent home, you still went off on your own." He reasoned coming towards her.
Katya finally realised he had been angry because he was worried about her. Guilt flooded her but she refused to back down.
Katya stood her ground as he got closer.
"I didn't think." Katya argued.
Jay flung his hands up in the air.
"That's the problem Katya you never bloody think." he argued.
Katya feel silent she didn't know what to say to make this better.
"I'm sorry Jay." she whispered.
Jay laughed without humour.
"Sorry wouldn't have cut it if you ended up dead." he spat in disgusted and before she could say anything else to him Jay was gone.
Katya went to follow him but her father grabbed her arm.
"Give him some time." he told her softly.
Katya wanted to argue but she knew he was right. About an hour later Jay came back. Roy had already gone to check on Tommy.
"I am going to swap places with Diggle." Oliver told her but Katya he was leaving to give them some space.
Katya smiled and nodded.
Katya was left alone with Jay. He was just as silent as before but Katya could tell he had calmed down.
She took a step towards him.
"I'm sorry." she whispered.
Jay nodded.
"Me too." he added.
Katya threw herself into his arms and he caught her easily crushing her to him.
She hid her face in his neck as tears slide down her face.
"I am so sorry." she repeated.
"I had to know if it was her and I couldn't think of anything else." She admitted.
Jay sighed before pressing a kiss into her head.
"I know." he replied.
He held her while she cried.
"Please don't do anything like that again." he begged softly.
"Because if something happens to you I would never be able to live with myself." he added.
Katya pulled away and looked him in the eyes.
"I promised." she whispered.
Jay met her eyes with a hard determined look.
"Good, because there is nothing I wouldn't do you to keep you safe." Jay told her seriously and she believed every word of it.
