Well here it is. no longer one-shot and my laptop's fixed.

Courtney's 14 Birthday
" Courtney! It's time to get up! " Beth yelled from the kitchen.
"Oh my God! " Courtney muttered. " I'm coming, Mom! "
Courtney grumbled down the stairs, wishing she was back in her bed. Sucking on her golden locket—the one she had since she was a baby—as she trekked to the kitchen.
" Happy Birthday, Princess! " her parents cheered. On the breakfast nook was a hot, heaping pile of chocolate chip pancakes, topped with whipped cream, sprinkles and strawberry syrup artfully drizzled on the plate.
" Aww! Thanks, Mom " Courtney said, spitting out her locket. " Thanks, Daddy!"
" Well… we just wanted to make sure you have the best birthday ever " Doug said.
" You say that every year " Courtney reminded them, while scarfing down her breakfast.
" That's because we want you to have the best birthday every year " Beth chimed in.
" Ugh! Why does my birthday have to be on a school day? " she groaned.
" Well, hop to it. Don't want to be late, do you? Darling " Doug said.
" Fine. Bye, Mom. Bye, Daddy " she said, heading to the door.
" Bye, Sweetheart " her parents waved.
