THE GRYPHON'S STOLEN COURANGE CH.3

The first rehearsal with the new member left the band with newfound excitement. It didn't take long for the sounds from Amari's keytar to flow so easily along with the band's high tempo rhythm; appearing as if the keytarist had been a member for more than just a couple of hours. It especially showed in her stage presence. As her fingers gracefully danced up the keys, releasing harmonious tunes, the musician performed in a trance-like state. This came as a shock to Thackery, who just hours ago, met a shy, timid girl that seemed to want nothing more than become invisible. When she played, she became almost at ease.

Strumming his guitar, The Dormouse slid his way over to Thackery and nudged himself against the rabbit's shoulder. The bass player snapped his gaze from Amari and looked at Mallymkun dazed. The mouse grinned as he leaned into Thackery's ear.

"FEELING A LITTLE BETTER I SEE?" he yelled over the music.

Thackery gave Mallymkun a quizzical look. The mouse nodded his head to Amari who was standing back to back with Alice. The soloist's vocals resonated with the keytar, putting the two girls in harmony. Feeling his face turn warm, Thackery shook his head frantically.

"IT'S NOT LIKE THAT!" he retorted. Mallymkun wasn't convinced.

"OH PLEASE!" the mouse exaggerated rolling his eyes.

The rabbit scowled and drew his attention back to the song; ignoring Mallymkun. The guitarist let out a sigh and a grin creped across his face.

"WHATEVER YOU SAY MAN!" Mallymkun ended and strolled towards the keytarist.

As Thackery lifted his head from his bass, what he saw shocked him. The mouse came up to Amari from behind and leaned against her slowly. The guitar player towered over in comparison to the small girl; putting Amari off balanced. Her expression suddenly showed surprise then instant confusion. Draping one arm across her chest, Mallymkun swiftly lifted his guitar in front of her body; leaving the two intertwined in an unexpected duet. Stunned by this sudden intrusion, the new member stayed frozen.

This didn't seem to affect any of the other members because the music continued. They were use to the mouse's 'flirtatious' antics, but for the first time, Thackery found himself enraged and hurt. Slowly, his tempo faltered till he was just standing there wide-eyed. The familiar emptiness began to creep up on him as he watched history repeat itself. He tried to grasp onto that feeling of warmth he had felt earlier that evening; that sudden spark of hope, but it didn't amount to anything. Once again, he found his heart slowly whither away.

All of a sudden, Thackery noticed the entangled figures separate. Amari had ducked under the mouse's electric guitar and tiptoed to the other side of the stage. Mallymkun jolted his tune a little bit in a stunned reply but pouted playfully as his usual behavior. Looking over to Thackery, he gave a wink. Thackery's damped mood simply vanished as he grasped the fact that this was all a ploy; only proving his charismatic friend's point. Mallymkun shifted his eyes down to the rabbit's hands and mouthed 'play'.

Wildly, Thackery bunched his bass back in his grasp and begun plucking a tune as relief and anger washed over him. At first he was angry with Mallymkun for pulling a stunt like that, especially when he knew it would tick him off. However, in some way, it helped him understand why he became so angry. He had become jealous, but this was different. With Alice, it had always been a game with the seducing Dormouse, but when it came to Amari, the rabbit became enraged. Could this have been true jealousy?

Questions clouding his head, he removed his bass and placed it on its stand and when he scanned the stage, he just couldn't seem to catch the petite musician. She was no where to be seen.
