I have a feeling that I might end this story around 17 or more chapters, but don't worry! Those next chapters will be awesome, and I might add in an epilogue if you guys want me too.
Pairing: Viktor Krum/Hermione Granger
Rating: MA
Harry Potter belongs to J.K Rowling.
Hermione tried to hide her hand from her cousin as long as she could, but there was no hiding anything from Sirius's watchful eye. He hadn't even been out of hiding for a week and yet here he was yelling at the DADA professor. In the middle of the Great Hall, where everyone was watching the pink toad get her just desserts. "Absolutely not! I don't give a bloody hell what you say! I refuse to let this go unchecked between all the parents of the students!" it felt refreshing seeing him so riled up about something other than people visiting him.
He loved to be visited, especially when it was Harry, the Weasleys, or Hermione and Viktor.
"Mark my words, if something is not done about the person in charge of disciplinary actions then I will take Hermione and Harry and enroll them elsewhere! Beauxbatons or even in America, hell the farther from you the better!"
"How dare you?! The Minister himself gave me permission to punish any delinquents as I see fit!"
"He did not give you the right to torture them!"
He laughed maniacally, and as he did so people can see how Azkaban effected him; his voice was dulled, his eyes hollow, and he had a crazed look in his eyes. "Maybe I can push for you to lose your job and get something more humble, I think ten years in Azkaban ought to do it. Or maybe twenty years in the Department for Regulation of Magical Creatures, doing the thing you hate most. Working with so called 'half breeds'," he threatened. Umbridge paled considerably, there was no way he could make her work for such filthy creatures.
Absolutely no way would she have to shove Centaur shit, or count house elves, or actually care for the things.
"YOU WILL NOT SUBJECT ME TO WORK FOR THOSE FILTHY THINGS!"
Hermione growled angrily, her eyes flashing a dangerous pink before a horrifying red; her wings spread behind her as the toad screamed on and on about how these magical beings should be treated worse than what they already were. "Who do you think you are?" Hermione asked as she stalked up the the red faced woman, her magic was slowly freezing the ground beneath her.
"By what right do you have to give us magical beings that title?"
Her magic was visible as her anger grew with each passing moment, and as she hovered in the air around Umbridge her magic had started to condensate into little glowing orbs. "Who gave you the power to tell me that my race is inferior to yours? Who ever said that a person's value is based on the purity of their blood?" she questioned the sweating toad.
"Hermione calm down," Sirius told her, his brown eyes pleading with her to come back down. Her vivid pink eyes landed onto her cousin's form, anger seeping from her body as she slowly hovered back down to the ground. Her rage had evaporated from her completely as she took in the sight of the frothing toad in front of her, as if she was set ablaze Umbridge was back on them with the insults and fury she had held in for so long, "I WILL NOT LET A HALF-BREED TALK TO ME LIKE THAT! LEARN YOUR PLACE, CRUCIO!"
Before anyone could react to such a violent curse Sirius pushed Hermione out of the way, taking the curse head on; leaving him in a trembling puddle of person on the cold stone floor. Harry growled audibly, stalking forward like a predator would his prey; his kind green eyes aflame with rage. "Stupefy! Expelliarmus!" with two quick swishes of his wand he downed the woman and disarmed her.
"How dare you?" he whispered violently, afraid that if he raised his voice in the slightest then he would loose it on this toad. Hermione dropped to the floor, quick to try and help Sirius. In that moment the people who had said that Harry was loony as Luna for believing Voldemort was back was soon reconsidering, his face was simply murderous and the eas going Harry Potter was never this angered.
"HOW FUCKING DARE YOU?! What would you do if you had missed and hit a student? Huh! What warranted you to attack a defenseless student based on her race?!" his arms were raised defensively in front of him even though he disarmed her, a trait he had unfortunately learned in his younger years of life. Her hair now a mess Dolores Umbridge stood in the middle of the Great Hall ready to blast out a spiel on how the Minister gave her full reign in discipline, but was stopped by a shout from the entrance. Behind a small number of aurors was Madame Bones, her face gaunt as she took in the scene.
A nod to her closest auror sent the familiar looking purple headed woman after the pink toad, and as she was read her rights and escorted out by the others all could hear her yell her supposed innocence. Hoping that there was one twisted soul in the group of aurors there but alas her tries were in vain. As she was forcibly pushed out of the castle all the professors were watching her, before turning their attention to the duo helping Sirius towards the door.
One look at Hermione's beautiful pink eyes had Viktor sprinting over to help the two, "Let me take him luff, you guys need to calm down a little." He carefully lifted the Animagus onto his back and took off running to the infirmary. Hermione and Harry were shaking as they felt the adrenaline, they hadn't felt a couple minutes ago, leave their system; Professor Flitwick and McGonagall conjured chairs for the two. During the little time it took for this once joyous morning to get to that point, the Professors were just getting ready to head to the Great Hall when they heard the fateful Cruciatus get cast.
The siren wrapped her wings around her body as she shook, her eyes were now hollow brown ones. Her mind remembering the day of the Final Task when she, Harry, and Cedric were tortured into near insanity. Seeing Sirius in a fraction of the pain she felt was horrible, it made her want to throw up all over the floor and that was before a Calming Drought was shoved down her throat and a chocolate frog was shoved into her hands. Looking over at Harry she was relieved to see that he wasn't shaking anymore as Snape pulled out a Pepper-Up Potion.
She let a couple tears well up in her eyes before letting the flood dams break free, Hermione burst into tears, crying freely for the first time since her first year. McGonagall gathered her into a friendly embrace as she let out all the tears she was holding in. All the stress and pain from the years previous were let loose, students crowded them before being herded back into their common rooms by all the professors. "She hit him," she cried out, McGonagall letting out a small 'I know'.
"She almost hit me."
"I know."
"W-why?"
As McGonagall was checking over Hermione, Snape was doing the same for Harry. Making sure that the green eyed teen was completely fine before thrusting a chocolate frog into his hands. Harry had no words left in him at this point and all he could do was look around at the solemn faces around them. Hermione and Harry made eye contact again and felt a sudden realization.
She didn't use the Killing Curse.
And to the siblings who have been through so much together, that was enough for them.
~.~.~.
"I'm a what?" a young ten year old Hermione asked the witch sitting on her couch, the elder witch smiled happily as she introduced the young girl to witchcraft and wizardry. A smile lightened the young girl's face as she watched a dish run away with a spoon, all her earlier conceptions about life were blown out of the water with this. Her eyes widened as she was entertained with a small informational book about magic. Little did she know her parents weren't about to let her into this beautiful world.
"We don't have the money and we never will! I am sorry ma'am but please leave."
"We would love to send her there but there is just no money to spare."
A frown graced Minerva McGonagall's face as she saw Hermione's magic try to interact with hers, pieces of papers flew in the air happily; and as they flew by Minerva could see all kinds of things like: receipts, bank notices, final notices, and more financial burdens. A look to the brilliant girl had made up her mind, it would be criminal to let such a smart child waste away from her true calling. "I'll pay for her tuition as well as for her supplies, each year if I must," Minerva insisted.
She could and would pay for the young girl's way in, as she did for most of the muggleborns who couldn't afford such prices for a school. A smile graced her face as dishes danced upon the table, the with a wave of her wand the dishes were the way there were prior to here arrival at the Granger household. Or should she say apartment Despite their poor living conditions, the Grangers put everything into Hermione's education; getting her books, pencils/pens, paper, everything she ever needed.
"I care not the cost, I've done this for many children before her and will continue to do so after. If I do this she will go next year, she has too. I've never seen such a girl with talent for decades," she told them. Her heart was in high hopes as the couple talked it over, not wanting to invade their privacy Minerva sat in front of Hermione. "Would you like to see some more magic deary?" she asked her kindly.
"Yes please!" Minerva smiled as the girl basically jumped in her seat happily. With a slight pause she sprung up from her seat, only to land as a cat on the ground. The tabby walked around the small coffee table to get closer to Hermione, watching carefully with her eyes.
"Magic is so cool!" she cried out, jumping from the couch to the ground, her eyes alight with exhilaration A pleading look to her parents had them reluctantly nod their approval, causing Hermione to jump with joy. Her bushy hair and buck teeth would no longer set her apart, as well as her intelligence. The parents watched in shock as the tabby cat on the sofa changed back into an elderly woman, wrinkles creased from the corner of her eyes as she smiled.
"Well, I believe that we could go out today and buy her equipment for the next school year," she proclaimed as she stood and smoothed out her robes. This caused Hermione to pause, what did she mean for the next school year?
"Miss? What do you mean? Aren't I going this year?"
One look of confusion and genuine disappointment was palatable, and made the professor curse inwardly. How could she forget to inform the parents and witch in question of everything? She must be getting old, for she has been more and more forgetful these days; and on that note she could hardly remember her meeting with Dumbledore earlier today.
"I'm sorry, I've been so forgetful these days. Since the school year has already started Hermione must start with next years batch of First Years."
"Why can't she go this year?" her father questioned Minerva.
"She has to be eleven when entering, and we can only tell muggleborns and their families on the day of their birthday whether or not they attend."
Hermione pouted as the adults held the conversation about her over her own head, wasn't she allowed to join in since it pertained to her? Even though she wasn't allowed to go this year, she could look forward to her next birthday. Then she would make friends just like her, and she would be accepted; that, was worth more than she could possibly imagine. She was only eleven and she had only one friend, she barely remembered him to; what was his name though? Hermione had met him recently so it shouldn't be hard to remember his name.
When she thought about it, she could hardly remember what he looked like also.
"Its okay Mummy, I can wait. You said big girls need to be patient!" she said with a smile, Minerva grinned and she held out both her arms.
"Hold onto an arm, I'm going to bring us to Diagon Alley. Its like an equivalent to a mall as you muggles call it."
As soon as Hermione slid her hand into Minerva's the four popped out of the apartment, the tug on her navel reminded Hermione of something. She couldn't explain it but somewhere her brain knew that she had experienced this before. When they fluttered back into existence Hermione and her parents let go of the woman quickly, each checking each other for injuries or any such.
Though Hermione stopped as soon as she saw where they were, and her jaw dropped with excitement. Children of all ages were flying on brooms while men and women tried to sell weird paraphernalia to them as Minerva led them to a large building with columns holding its lopsided structure. As they entered the bank as she was informed, all Hermione could think was a simple dream.
'Maybe I'll fit in here..."

Four years down the road had disproved her earlier conceptions about the magical world she was forever stuck in, she wanted desperately to leave from this place; though she couldn't dare to think about it. One reason was the Bulgarian behind her, holding her in his embrace as she shivered violently. Weeks had passed since she had seen her cousin get tortured in front of her eyes and after he recovered he made the stupidest pun about it.
"Hey Mione at least she knows how Sirius I am!"
She punched him in the arm for that stupid comment, and in the days following that horrific morning she watched as Remus Lupin took his seat at the Staff Table. His face no longer seemed so gaunt or sickly, it seemed that Tonks was taking care of the werewolf extremely well. Her weeks in school had gotten much better from there, Snape was no longer treating the Gryffindors as harshly as he used to.
Viktor held her as close to him as he could, her skin radiating heat against his own as they lay in bed for the night. The night was cold as the moonlight streamed into the room from the stained glass windows. Her wings were wide open, making it a little harder for him to hold her; yet, he still accomplished the feat. Hermione was impossibly beautiful, and he was lucky to have someone like her in his life.
Yet he had a foreboding feeling in the back of his head, like a secret that would tear him apart. Viktor had no clue what the near future held for him, but his gut was telling him that it wasn't going to be pretty. With that in mind he held his siren closer to him and feel asleep, having absolutely no idea that fate was laughing at them wholeheartedly as she wove a mangled path for the two to walk. A fork would be in the middle of that beautiful road, one leading to prosperity and the other to a desolate place.
Though she didn't take in account the love Hermione held for Viktor, seeing as the two now wore silver bands around their fingers. The precious metal gleaming in the moon's gentle embrace. All to soon her light was replaced with the unveiling of dawn, the one of two times of day that the moon can kiss the sun before she faded to the Earth's dark side. It was during the same dawn that fate's favorite siren would wake and kiss the forehead of her mate before getting ready for the day.
Hermione held up her left hand to appreciate and admire the beautiful band of silver that lie on it, it was easily one of the most cherished things she owned. It was simple, seeing as Viktor knew she liked things to be simple, so instead of a baroque ring he gifted her with a beautiful crafted band. Made by only the finest for his love, as Viktor claimed and it truly was the finest.
No gems or anything, just weaving vines all the way around.
She filled the bath up so it was quite warm and full before stepping in, Hermione always found it a hassle when cleaning her wings. Having to wash in between her feathers made her insane on the good days, and she nearly blasted the windows out with her anger on the worst days. As she cleaned herself up she couldn't help but to feel a sort of pit in her stomach. Like she knew something bad was going to happen, all Hermione could think of was falling her Arithmancy tests or perhaps missing Ancient Runes.
Though, the more she thought about it the more Hermione worried.
Brushing off the feeling she was having Hermione stepped out of the cooling bath and wrapped herself in a warm fluffy towel. Ah, how she loved magic, for instead of waiting for her long hair to dry out she could just charm it to perfection. And recently it was easier to do the same with her wings. Entering her shared bedroom Hermione searched for her wand, ready to get the day started by heading to breakfast.
"Where did I put my bloody wand?" she asked herself as she searched for the piece of wood, not hearing the footsteps behind her. Hermione let out a squeak when she felt Viktor wrap his arms around her, "Vhere did you go luff?" His voice was heavy with fatigue as he tightened his grip on her midriff slightly, her wand in his grip.
It seemed that despite his tired state, Viktor knew exactly what she was looking for.
"Thanks Viktor!" she said before turning in his arms, standing on her tippy-toes to give him a quick kiss on the lips before shimmying out of his embrace. He chuckled as he watched her run off, now trying to find a clean uniform.
Yes, he decided it was better to keep in that feeling, because he didn't want to break such a peaceful morning. Little did he know, Hermione was thinking the same thing.
Sorry I took so long to update! I just was so busy with everything I got going on for me, and I can't be sure you will expect an update until November, possibly sooner.
