Okay so my last chapter was kind of, excuse my language, shitty. This one will be much better, I promise!
Riker POV
My eyes snap open and I frantically look around the room. It's dark so I can't see much but I can make out the shape of one of my brothers lying next to me on the couch. I sit the bottle in my hand on the floor, running a hand through my hair and sighing. It was just a dream.
A knot forms in my stomach. What if it wasn't just a dream? Needing to be sure, I pull myself up off the couch and tiptoe down the hallway, stopping outside Rydel's room. I gently push the door open. Relief washes over me when I see Maya curled up on the air mattress, fast asleep. I smile and go over to her, kneeling down to gently kiss her cheek.
Maya POV
My eyes flutter open when I feel someone's lips on my cheek. I smile when my eyes meet Riker's.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He whispers.
"It's okay. What are you doing up?" I ask, propping up on my elbow.
"Just checking on you." He replies.
I raise an eyebrow, "Checking on me?"
He smiles sheepishly, "Yeah, I kind of had this dream that you took off again. But this time you actually got on a plane. And you'd just been in the hospital because of complications with the baby. So I had to make sure you were still here."
I sit up, "Well, that's not a very good dream."
"I'm just glad it was only a dream." He replies.
"Does that mean you'll listen next time I say don't drink discount dollar store alcohol that you can't even pronounce the name of?" I tease.
He laughs quietly, "Yes."
"Good." I reply.
He kisses me, "I love you."
"I love you, too." I smile.
He leans down and kisses my belly, "And I love you, baby Lynch."
"Wanna see something?" I ask.
He nods.
I hold my hands out so he can pull me up. I keep hold of his hand and pull him into the living room where we can see better. I turn sideways and lift my shirt and push the top of pajama pants down slightly so he can see my small baby bump.
"I'm starting to show." I say.
"Guess we won't be keeping it a secret much longer, huh?" He replies.
I shake my head, pulling my shirt back down, "You don't know how amazing these pajama pants feel, either. All my jeans are getting too tight and I thought for sure the button was going to pop off the ones I had on earlier."
He laughs, "I hope you bought some maternity clothes when you went shopping."
"Absolutely not." I respond, "I bought my jeans a couple sizes bigger."
He raises an eyebrow, "And what happens if those get too small?"
"I bought plenty of sweat pants, too." I shrug.
He shakes his head, "I have a feeling you'll wear those more, whether the jeans fit or not."
I laugh, "You know me too well."
"Well, I would like to think so since we have been together for two years." He replies.
My eyes widen, "Oh my gosh, it is our two year, isn't it?"
"And guys are supposed to be the ones who forget everything." He laughs.
I instantly feel guilty, "I can't believe I forgot."
"Don't worry about it. We can just celebrate it a day late. No big deal." He says.
"Why didn't you say something earlier?" I ask.
He rubs the back of his neck, "I kind of forgot too. I didn't remember until right before the show and I didn't have a chance to say anything until now."
"Well at least I'm not the only one, then." I reply.
He starts to say something but is interrupted by a pillow hitting his back. We both turn to the couch.
"Would you two be quiet? Some of us are trying to sleep." Ross grumbles.
"Sorry." I apologize.
Riker takes my hand and pulls me out of the room, hitting Ross with the pillow as we walk by. We go to his room, collapsing on his bed. I cuddle up to him, resting my head on his chest as he wraps his arms around me. We stay like this until we fall asleep.
The next morning I have scheduled an appointment with my new doctor. We're almost late, due to my almost forgetting, but the nurse takes us straight back anyway. I climb up on the bed and let her take all my vitals while Riker lounges in the nearby chair, keeping his face hidden by pretending to scroll through his phone.
"Okay, the doctor will be with you shortly." The nurse says, draping her stethoscope around her neck, she pauses, looking at Riker, "You look familiar."
He shrugs, "I can't imagine why, I've never been here before."
She frowns, "No, I think I've seen you somewhere else…"
"I think he just has one of those faces. Everybody thinks he looks familiar." I interrupt.
"Hm, maybe." She replies, walking out the door.
Riker lets out a breath, "That was close."
"Yeah, but it's not like it would have mattered. People are going to start finding out pretty soon." I say.
"Yeah but I don't want them finding out that way." He retorts.
I roll my eyes and start to say something else but the doctor comes in then.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Deland. You must be Brooklyn." He greets.
"Uh, Maya, actually." I correct with a smile.
"Oh, well, it's nice to meet you Maya." He smiles back.
"You too." I return.
He turns to Riker, "The father, I'm presuming?"
Riker nods, "Yeah." He extends his hand, "I'm Riker."
Dr. Deland shakes his hand, "Nice to meet you."
"You too." Riker replies, looking relieved that he wasn't recognized.
I'm not sure why, this doctor is way older than their fanbase.
He wheels the ultrasound machine over, "Let's have a look at that baby, shall we?"
I roll my shirt up to just under my bra, shivering when he squirts the blue jelly on my stomach. Riker is immediately next to me, watching the screen anxiously. The doctor starts moving the wand thing around my stomach.
After a moment, he frowns, "That's peculiar."
"Is something wrong?" I ask nervously, grabbing Riker's hand.
He looks at me, "How far along did you say you were?"
"About fourteen weeks." I reply.
"Well, according to this, you're approximately twenty weeks." He says.
My eyes widen, "What?! No! That…That's impossible!"
"It's quite possible actually. This little one is staying very close to your back, so it's hard to see it clearly, but it's front and center today and I can clearly see it is much more developed than fourteen weeks." He explains.
"Is…is it healthy?" I manage.
"From what I can see, everything looks good. Although it is a little smaller than I'd like, but more than likely it'll catch up soon." He responds, then, smiling, "Would you like to know the sex?"
I look at Riker, who nods, grinning.
I turn back to the doctor, "Yes."
"Okay, just a moment…" He moves the wand around, "Congratulations, you're going to have a…"
