Chapter 3
After thoroughly pissing off his teachers, Sasuke would be going home with about double of the normal boatload of crap to do. While trying to maintain consciousness during class, when he answered all his snotty teachers' challenges correctly, to avoid looking like the total idiots they are, they did the "Oh, well since you're so smart, why don't you figure out…in a 7 page paper by tomorrow morning!?"
Sasuke only "hn"ed, which is neither a confirmative or a denial. Regardless to the urge he had to yell 'fuck off' to them instead. But he would do it anyway, if just to further prove those slimy people wrong. It's not his fault his head's trying it's hardest to split into two.
And that. What is up with that! The blue little girl had been following him around all day, never in touching distance, but close enough that it was lucid he could clearly see her.
She wailed loudly all day long. Her streaming red tears overlapped the ever existing crusted, bloody trails that came from her eye sockets, mouth, and battered neck. And her parched eyes, beaming to him as if demanding some sort of condolence, as if he was baring something of himself to give. No one else could see her, hear her. The ones unknowingly moving besides her; they can't touch her, know her. In this densely populated school, she is alone. She is a bloody blue mess that could only shudderingly stare right into Sasuke's soul.
It was actually so dizzying that he did in fact passed out. At lunch, his face plopped lamely into his meal, smearing sushi rice all over his cheeks and hair as his nerves rang. She even followed him here into the men's bathroom (cough) where she watches him clean himself. He splashed cold water on his face and rubbed his skin slowly. His head gave another deathly throb and he placed it heavily on the sink and let out slow, shuddering breaths. In. Out. In. Out. Yeah, that's it. Not too fast now.
"Please little girl" he moaned. It only made her scream louder.
Urrrg. How could no one else hear her? Why was this happening, this has never happened before….
He groaned, pushing himself off the sink and walked towards her figure. She was standing by the bathroom door, crying and rubbing at her eyes fruitlessly and her blood descends. Sasuke could feel his hair raise the closer he got to her but proceeded regardlessly. He got down into a cautiously squat, even eyelevel for her small figure.
"Hey, don't cry. Can you at least tell me your name? Mine's Sasuke Uchiha." No differentiated reaction. "Can you tell me why you're crying so loud? No one is going to hurt you here." Her face gurgled, her eyes still just as hot boring at him. He tried again "What things do you like?…I like it when the sky changes colors…especially at sunset when they give those soft warm hues. I like playing music- mainly on my flute, reading the paper, eating tomatoes. I suppose field hockey isn't so bad. Oh and when I would wait for when my brother would get home, sitting on the porch with my head in my hands and- ohh fudge, I'm going to faint…"
It then was suddenly was very quiet, all left, the buzz left over in Sasuke's ears. She stopped crying! Thank GOD. It was now a splash of cool water on his mind. He was probably grinning stupidly in relief. Another reason to be thankful he was the only one in here, not looking like a mad man, squatting down in a half decent bathroom "talking to himself".
In that moment he almost forgot about her but let his interest perk back up, curious as to what he said to make her stop screaming, but when he place back his attention he saw such a heart-wrenching expression on her face, all his unsaid words ran dry.
Her face bleed agony and sorrow through lifeless eyes. Her bloody form prickling soft then drying with discomfort; blue lips parting to form small letter.
"Help me…please." Crackling blue light exploded from her, throwing Sasuke back. The light bounced around in the bathroom; it rammed wildly into the stalls and sinks, making clatters and the pipes to burst, also cutting off the electricity before it flickered crazily. It bounced through the walls into the, most likely, next bathroom, then up into the ceiling, unable to be traced.
Sasuke panted, unsure what to do. He could hear the wet shrills of girls the wall over and distraught people in the halls. Not before long security guards would come banging in to try assessing the situation so Sasuke shuffled out quickly. He speed walked over to the science department for his next class breathing heavy.

The great fox demon snaps open his jaws as he takes in the huge crane. It was too easy. The fox was easily one of the most powerful of his bundle of a family. And also steadily increasing in strength and power. He had the crane easily on her belly after a struggle, with his jaws tensed threateningly over her breast and neck. Of course he wouldn't deliver the final blow. She was his best friend after all. But because he didn't have any other choice but to continue crouching there in proof of his dominance for winning the battle the crane retaliated by freezing his muzzle tight all the way up to his bloody red eyes. The ice burned and she flobbled away with a hiss and obvious irritation. He called up his fox fire to melt and ease his chops but that wasn't going to stop the smug smirk already etching on his face. The large fox suddenly became a young man, the large form slowly turning back into the more defined and considerably less comfortable human form to smirk at the heated woman across from him.
"Why so grouchy Sakura? You have to admit that was a pretty good fight. It lasted much longer than what it normally does".
"Yeah whatever meat-head!" she groused. She hated how inferior she was compared to him. He used to be the weak one when they were younger! Then he suddenly got really good really fast. She wasn't trying to seem like a jealous bimbo, she was truly so happy for him. It is just that she feels like she is being steadily left behind by him and one day he'll be so far away she'll never have the hopes of being able to touch him again. But, well he is the chosen one after all. What was she to really expect?
"You somehow managed to get your slobber all over my new sweater! We weren't even fighting in human form". The girl looked in distain at her damp garment, seeming considerably furious and Naruto chuckled and apologized.
"Now now Sakura. You know that feathers naturally aren't as endurant as furs and other skins. You should have taken precautions if you were really worried about getting your sweater dirtied". Kakashi had finally spoke up after being silent practically the entire match. He was reclined in a dusty fold up chair, hands placed firmly on some new dirty romance novel with his ears and tails promptly poked out. He still had that goofy look in his eyes he normally did as he thought of something cheesy romantic but it steadily went back to its board/amused set, basically always face.
"Non the less he's right, it was a pretty good fight. You don't always need to get so exclamative about things like this Sakura. And you should probably give it another go since you didn't last long in this match". He bent his body back to look at the other girl also lazing behind him. She was the white swan Ino. Long blond hair with feather curves around her ears, like Sakura's, gave away her demon. "And I don't suppose you would like to have a round?"
"Nope, I'm good Kakashi. Carry on".
Seriously. He knew she was just waiting for her friend to be done with training but she didn't have to just sit doing nothing and twiddle her nails about. But then again Kakashi was no better.
Kakashi and Sakura stepped forward to spar. Their bodies shifted, Sakura's forming back into a large but thin framed crane and Kakashi forming outward into a long and sharp-clawed grey mongoose. Both demons sized each other up then began attacking, using their natural elements as starters before physical engagement.
Naruto had to say the chair was a nice bonus, he was happy Kakashi brought that along. The old practice rooms were dim and dirty enough to make anyone grimace at the thought of touching the floor. Ino was lucky being a flying demon, she was naturally blessed with winds to keep her afloat the disgusting floor.
It was funny, it had really been years since the three of them, yes excluding Ino because this wasn't really her thing, trained together as a group. Time just got away from them he guesses. But time passes rather quickly for a demon anyhow.
There were still a few more hours. Tsunade specifically asked them to train, not to take a crack at them, but to let them know it's time to get ready. She'd probably call on them tonight for a mission so best they'd warm themselves up first.
So here is the big problem. Konoha City, Ame City, Oto City, and Anthro City are all equally close in distance but couldn't be anymore different internally. Konoha City, where Naruto himself was born, was housed of nearly 100% demons. It's large and beautiful and much more protective of it's inhabitants and aspiring for freedoms of those inside than the others.
Their leader, mayor, whatever, for the longest time was the Great Tsunade. She protected the entire city and it was Naruto's dream! He wanted to be as amazing and strong as to watch out for the entire population of Konoha. And he's closer everyday; Master Jairaya is watching over it for now in Tsunade's extended leave, she switching to cover more of the defense side and using her agents, Naruto and his crew, to do some spying and gathering information. It's much faster this way, they meet in the secrecy of Central and have meetings. Tsunade took the cover roll as the college principle but it is still quite a hassle for them all to move back and forth from Konoha to the city every day.
Oto city is full of rats. The most grimy of demons lived there and do less than legal thing. Their leader Orochimaru is known for his experimentation on his subjects and creating powers and weapons of his own rumored that would take out the cities around him.
Well while they knew Oto was up to no good, the Ame city was always a mystery. Their leader is a fiery orange haired corps demon but it's rumored he's not the true mastermind behind the city. It's very suppressed and you never would find too happy a person if you wandered through.
Lastly Anthro is the city of humans. There are 0% demon inhabitants. Demons are hardly ever permitted inside the city, only for official arrangements are they allowed to enter. It is a strict rule, special passes and scans need to be preformed if a demon was ever to go in and come out. They were specialized in ways to kill demons too. It was no secret, they would unblinkingly try to take off a demons head. They were capable of being a threat and very unpredictable with their mixed messages. Tenten used to help out Tsunade with information she provided Neji with. She was an average girl but worked with special weapons. She would time to time overhear things and give info back to him for her.
Thinking about her got his fist to curl and a growl to erupt from his chest. How could they harm that innocent human girl? It was unclear the murderer's motive and it still unfortunately stood prominent evidence so every other city sanction was there to be accused. And this is what they do, they are Konoha spies. The are the protectors for the entire community. A flash of the raven haired beauty from the previous night flashed in his mind. What if he was the one that was brutally slaughter? Naruto's skin bristled and he about seethed in anger thinking about what a harmed state the soft man could be put into.
"Hey what's your deal?" Ino gave him a look that questioned his scale of stupidity and he rolled his eyes trying to release this tension from his muscles. He just really wondered if he would see Sasuke again. He could always track him by scent but he was almost hoping to have a spontaneous run into each other just like the abrupt introduction the night before. It made him giddy with excitement with his unpredictable entrance.
Ino snorted at him, obviously eyeing the happy swaying foxtail wedged between his pants. "Oh yeah, I think yooou really are losing it now Naruto. Just do me a favor and keep the crazy a little more to the left".

After his Chemistry Sasuke was immediately intercepted by Suigetsu at the threshold. It slightly irked the raven as he assumed he was being babied but one good look at the other mind told him otherwise. The ever happy-go lucky guy was suddenly morose in his aurora, even if his outer expression failed to say so. Still, he very enthusiastically and vocally invited Sasuke to go to the swim meet his team was hosting at the college this evening. Suigetsu started bragging, saying how he was the best on the team and how awesome it would be for Sasuke to come see him and not cause mischief at 3am. He agreed without hesitation.
The poolroom was humid and sticky. The college pool was spectacular, to say the least. Sasuke had never seen an actual Olympic size swimming pool outside the ones on tv every four years. Suigetsu parted to change and meet up with his team before the meet started and Sasuke was left with the painful choice to wait the boredom out or risk cooking up his laptop with all the moisture in the air. He decided to wait it out and watch the crowd come in instead. There was surprisingly was a large number from his own college and the opposing university coming and soon Sasuke was a only a drop in a pond of specters.
Suigetsu and his team emerged with their grey and white suits and the opponents, now known from Oto university, sported loud purple trunks with matching gray caps. Sasuke, though not interested in sports, watched with interest as the races started and the air horn blew. He actually even cheered when his school won a race or Suigetsu flew off the board into a dive. It was much more interesting when it is involved with people you know he figured. He was starting to feel very glad he came, even if it was just to appease Suigetsu and yield to his strange aurora, because he was actually entertained. However, he couldn't help the beating feeling that he was being watched. Through the mixed bodies of his school and the fellow Oto-ers it felt as if a gaze was focused on him intently, and not even a creepy ghost stare kind of feeling but more so a predatory one.
Looking around briefly to not seem suspicious Sasuke searched the crowd but couldn't pin-point anyone that showed their gaze. He tried to brush it off there after, this was supposed to be about Suigetsu not himself and his insecurities.
The final race was a medley relay. It was Suigetsu and three other guys from their college against four other Oto guys. Medleys depended all on the team and if Suigetsu was swimming free style from the way he lined himself up last, the wait of the win would fall onto his shoulders the most. The race started quickly and everyone was on the edge of their seat for each exchange. A bulky Oto kid eventually flew off the start after someone doing breaststroke tagged him. Suigetsu was only a few seconds behind going from the start but that didn't stop him from easily catching up to the opponent.
The crowd was going wild as the cheered out to their teams and Sasuke watched Suigetsu, just shy of the Oto kid on the last lap, moving so easily it was apparent he was extremely well versed with water. Heck if he squinted sideways for a second it looked like he was water. When they both hit the wall at seemingly the same time, everyone held their breath and looked to the score board for confirmation. It turned out Oto won by 0.3 seconds. The Oto team cheered wildly in an almost animalistic way. Although as a whole they didn't win the entire match, a win was a win.
Suigetsu didn't seem upset about it in the least though . He caught Sasuke's eye in the stands and grinned widely which was retuned with a small one of his own. He felt that gaze on him again that prickled his skin and Sasuke glanced around with a bit more paranoia only to not find a source at all again. Once more Sasuke tried to brush it off but found himself scrunching in on his body as if to protect himself The girl's swimming match was starting immediately after so he had to wait around for his friend to change so they could sit together and watch the race. He thought it would be great, maybe wouldn't feel so uncomfortable anymore with Suigetsu around, but after the girl's match was nearing half way though he was no where to be found and Sasuke questioned if he would be coming back.
The girls' match was good but considerably less entertaining for him. He liked watching the lean flexing muscled of the guys but the ladies had little to show off for him in form that caught his interest. He was bored, but didn't move until after the meet had finished and everyone started leaving. Sasuke was irritated on what was taking so long but quietly waited on the pool floor nonetheless. The feeling emitting from Suigetsu wasn't going to shake off of him. It was desponded and Sasuke wanted to know why.
Everyone had left by the time Suigetsu had appeared out of the boys' locker room. He had on some low hung sweat pants and an unzipped sweatshirt revealing a bare chest. He was walking to Sasuke slowly, in an almost reluctant way. Which shouldn't be true because they were on perfect terms and he had been waiting all this damn time he better pick up the paste!
"Where the hell where you? I was waiting for you forever so we could watch the girl's match together".
"Yeah, sorry about that." Suigetsu chuckled lamely "Something important suddenly came up and I had to tend to them. My, uh, parent was there; we had to talk for a bit".
"Oh". No one said anything for a while, letting the awkward silence exist. "Well I could have met them, if that's what you mean. I wouldn't have minded".
The white haired boy's eyes flashed and his face paled a few degrees before letting out a humorless laugh, "No, he isn't the most pleasant of people. He asked about you in fact. I just didn't think it'd be the best idea to introduce you." Again, no one spoke but Sasuke stopped meeting his gaze this time, somehow feeling disappointed that his pretty much first friend didn't want him glimpsing at his life. It wasn't as if he hadn't had family problem either.
"Sasuke listen", Suigetsu began, "I'm…I'm not going to be coming back to school after today." his head sprung up. "I'm- my folks want me to return back to the home they made in Oto city. They feel it'd be best of me to leave and move on with my life there." This time he did whole-heartedly chuckled and smile at Sasuke's surprised derp face. "It's extremely short notice, I know! I actually just found out today after my second class; and it really bites. It's only been a few weeks but I've really taken a likeing to you." He cups Sasuke's cheeks with his hands and they light with a blush. Sasuke never bothered thinking about sexuality. Getting a girlfriend or boyfriend was completely farfetched, he couldn't even manage getting a friend first off. Plus he wasn't extremely keen with others' touch. But he knew he liked the male figure and while it felt strange to have Suigetsu in his space, it felt nice too.
The brave Uchiha army man in Sasuke's head was coaching him to resist, to not fall for that cocky smirk, the dripping chest, and the fingers grabbing firmly around his waist. The strength in those arms as he was lifted- wait what?
The next thing Sasuke knew he was being thrown sideways into the large Olympic pool. The cold shook his body to the core and he came up sputtering and genuinely pissed as he cursed the other laughing man out. He was wailing on the wet tiled floor, completely bent over in hilarity. Sasuke didn't think he had ever seen Suigetsu that happy before where he was left utterly speechless, nothing but giggles making it's self present. It was a nice turn from him glumness just a short while ago, actually his aurora was still dim but considerably brighter from the fun of Sasuke's disgruntlement, and because of that Sasuke made himself to try and let it go. "Oh… fuck you Suigetsu." He only laughed harder and Sasuke smirked down at him as he climbed out. "Was that an invitation, Sasuke?" he snorted at the raven's blush.
"Wow you really look like a drowned cat" Suigetsu got in his face, leaning down close, to taunt him more. Sasuke suddenly got a sparked idea, wrapping his arms around the other's neck, and pulled hard. In his mind of course he was supposed to flip him over and splash the man back in the pool however his locked hands only pulled the other's face forward and the proximity was enough for Sasuke to jerk back and almost fall right back in himself.
Suigetsu caught him though, his warm breath brushing his embarrassed face again. "Well if you wanted a kiss you could have just said so." And the next thing he knew lips were descending on each other. It was so gentle and sweet, it literally had Sasuke swooning. Suigetsu let them up for air and his wet lips descended on Sasuke's several more times in languid pecks. And then it was over. Sasuke was trapped in the dizzy surprise of it all and Suigetsu winked saying now you'll have something to remember me by. He said to think of this as his farewell gift.
Sasuke was wet and flushed, still a little pissed at being thrown in the water, but he would except this. He would really miss Suigetsu. Having another person to talk to or have sit by his side really helped erase the loneliness Sasuke wasn't even aware he had so thickly around him. Sasuke through up his arms and attempted to bro hug Suigetsu like everyone does in the television show. "You goof. Next time I see you, you better not be near water".
"Wow" he had the other snort out another laugh "now you really have me looking forward to our next meeting. Well I'll hope, I can see you again."
"Of course you will. It's only like an hour away from Oto. You can come visit me, or I come visit you." This caused the other to stiffen and Sasuke frowned. "You're a good guy, and thanks for showing me that". 'Thank you for being my friend' was what he really wanted to say, but it seemed like his point got across from the dazzling grin beamed at him and the tightening arms in a hug. "And get a freaking cell phone or something eventually while you're at it".
"I promise Sasuke."
They split ways eventually leaving out two separate doors. Sasuke initially wanted to go back to the weird room he first found the little blue girl at to do some investigating but the whole exchange in the poolroom left him feeling lax and a bit breathless. Who knew his first kiss would have the taste of chlorine and the breath of the man he just befriended a short while ago? Sasuke smiled at the moment as he moved slowly through the empty halls.
The pressure started getting to his head again and the peaceful moment was swept away with the daily pain and throbbing. The music room the practice in was just around the corner, he figured it would be better to snoop and get some answers now since he was here now rather than later. Opening up the doors into the room with no lights Sasuke shuffled past chairs and stands to reach the approximate spot he was at yesterday and picked out his flute in his messenger bag. The cool metal calmed his beating heart and he relaxed his mind to try recalling a song he didn't know how to play.
Learning to communicate with spirits was fantastic for his spiritual control. He trained and could almost manage any memories of the deceased that used to posses him every night he slept and finding his center for simple things like this came almost as easily as breathing. He only faintly registered when his hands rose and his fingers picked themselves up to press the keys to the melody he desired.
The ghostly melody that spontaneously found Sasuke swirls around him and he could literally feel his body being pulled released then pulled again. It was an interesting sensation, but he didn't open his eyes in fear of spoiling the enchantment.
He knew he landed when there was a noticeable change of temperature. It was freezing cold before but it felt pleasantly warm this time. Almost too warm. The darkness of the room again stood contrast to the dark hallway before him which he wandered down. The floors still were grimy with dust and Sasuke swore in the nonphysical light he could see his fading footsteps disappearing like steps in the snow. The further he walked the hallway the warmer it grew. Coming to an intersection he could feel the radiating heat coming from his left. He was supposed to finish down the long hall to the spot he found the little girl in search for clues but his curiosity got the better of him and he quickly diverted to discover this warmth again.
He knew it wasn't the room with the strange looking people, the Japanese door he stopped at was very different. He could hear the sounds of hissing and loud thuds. It was as if there was an animal brawl happening. As bad as the idea was to look into the room Sasuke couldn't help himself. He was a curious cat after all. Sliding the door to the right a small peep, he witnessed the strangest sight he had ever seen in his life; which was saying something, him seeing the dead and all.
The was a huge white crane getting into it with a white and grey speckled mongoose. They were swiping, biting, and heckling at each other and in conjuncture to that they we so big he was pretty sure they could easily bump their heads against the ceiling of his apartment building. Most amazingly, in their battle, they were conjuring up elemental properties to attack with as well. The crane froze the mongooses sharp claws do the dark floor and in retaliation the mongoose flipped his tale to shock the close range bird with electricity that shot out of its fur.
Sasuke stood there unbelievingly with his mouth hung open. He couldn't even, he officially thought he went nuts. This obviously wasn't happening. He slid the paper door shut back to the left as if none of that stuff even happened and made his way back to the turn in the hall we avoided.
Naruto looked up from his snooze when he heard a feint click. It was distinctive but nothing looked out the ordinary. Sakura and Kakashi were still sparing so he asked Ino if she had heard anything.
"Huh? No I don't think so." She was fixing her hair into one long blonde braid completely absorbed in her self.
"I'm going to go look around for a bit."
"Alright suit yourself."
Sasuke was moving deftly through the dim hall until he reached the long stretch to a blank blue corner that had faded marks of handprints covered in blood. Gradually as he was walking the warmth began to disappear, being sucked straight out of the air until a bitter chill brought his breath into focus. Low puffs of steam wafted from him as he searched the way for any kind of clue, hair, object, anything that could hint to him where the child had disappeared to. He narrowed his eyes at the dry bloody wall, daring to softly place his hands on top of the marks and felt himself shudder violently. He wasn't encased in any dreams or memories which was unusual he felt, but he became acutely more aware of the place around him. His tune to energy sharpened and he felt the enormous bounds from where he had been not too long ago with the animals. He felt a faint energy faded from the corner where the little girl had vacated. He also felt his own.
"Little girl, where have you gone?" he questioned quietly. Sasuke had always understood death was an irreversible thing. Once someone past and their ghost was seen mulling about the living world, there wasn't a thing anyone could ever do for them. They were dead, often times in his case- unphysical, and there was no reason for them to demand any sort of request. Them hanging around Earth was their business and theirs' alone. Sasuke would never question that.
But the blue girl broke that rule, not only doing the rarest thing and speaking to him but also asking for his help. Sasuke was shocked, unsure how in the world he could help a dead person. He carefully set his forehead to the filthy wall and felt the waves of tangled energy start puling him in pulsing quakes.
But if he could help her, he would do his damn hardest to try.
