Chapter 5
"Thank you for making dinner, Percy," Sally said, as they ate dinner that evening. "It was very nice of you. Wasn't it nice of him, Paul?"
"Oh yes, very nice," Paul said, nodding his head.
Percy smiled, stifling his laughter. "Oh, it was my pleasure. Do you like it?"
"Yes, it's very… interesting," Sally said. "Right Paul?"
"Yes, just like how I like my meat… completely raw," Paul said, his voice sounding strained.
"And my pasta crunchy," Sally added
"Yeah, I never learned how to cook…" Percy bit his lip, looking thoughtful for a second, before perking up again. "But hey, I'm better than Nico. He doesn't even know how to peel a banana."
Angelina smiled at the mention of her boyfriend, but didn't look up. She was staring at her plate, barely eating, with her hair blocking her face from view.
"So your mother is the only one who knows how to cook in this family?" Paul asked. "Guess we'll be living off McDonalds whenever she's away."
"Actually," Percy pointed out, "Angelina knows how to cook."
"Really?" Paul asked surprised.
"Yep," Percy confirmed, with a nod. "Isn't that right, Angel?"
"Hm?" Angel looked up. "Oh, yeah."
"Are you okay, honey?" Sally asked her. "You've been so quiet, and you've barely touched your food."
"I'm fine," Angelina lied. "Just tired. It's been a long day." She had made Percy swear on the River Styx not to tell their parents what had happened.
"Why aren't you eating?" Paul asked.
"If I'm honest, this meal doesn't look too appetizing," Angelina said, pushing her plate away.
"Maybe we should just order pizza?" Percy suggested.
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea," the others agreed.
Angel
I was running. I was running as fast as I could, not daring to look over my shoulder for fear of what I might see.
I didn't know what I was running from, but I knew that there was something behind me. I wasn't sure if it was a monster, or a person, or whatever, but there was something there and it wanted to kill me.
There was cliff up ahead. I could the clearing before it, and the sudden drop of earth. I knew it wasn't a good idea to head there, but I did anyway. It was like I didn't have control over my feet. So I continued running forward, straight for the cliff. I barely managed to stop myself when I finally got there, and I skidded to a stop with my toes over the edge.
When I looked down, I realized the water that looked so blue just moments before had turned blood red. I tried to slow my beating heart, as I caught my breath, but I was terrified. Hearing footsteps behind me, I spun around, only to be met with a face I had been trying so hard to forget.
"Ryan?" I whispered.
He smiled that horrible smile and replied, "Hello Angelina." Then, before I knew what was happening, his arms were extended, pushing backwards. Then I was falling, heading straight for the sea of blood. I reached out, hoping to grab something, but there was nothing there. I was falling and falling- then I woke.
I screamed as I was pulled from the nightmare that had plagued my sleep. My hand shot out automatically to stop myself from tumbling off my bed, but there was no need to- I was fine.
I closed my eyes, and took some deep, calming breaths. I suddenly heard someone enter my room, and my eyes snapped open, to see my brother standing there. I would have laughed, but I was way too tired.
Percy was standing in my doorway, shirtless, with his pants barely on, showing his boxers underneath. I figured he was sleeping in his boxers, but figured he should probably put pants on before running to my room, and that was the result.
"Angel, are you okay?" Percy asked frantically. "I heard you scream."
"I'm fine, Percy," I murmured, running a hand through my hair. "Just a bad dream."
"Maybe I should-"
"Percy," I interrupted, knowing he worrying more than he needed to. "Don't worry. It was just a nightmare. A one time thing."
"But what if…" Percy said, looking worried. "What if it's like last time?"
I felt myself pale slightly, but I hoped he didn't notice in the dark. He was right; it was like last time.
"It won't be like that," I said, as confidently as I could. "Everything will be okay. Besides, we didn't know we were demigods back then. We didn't know that wheat was happening was the work of magic. We didn't know what to do."
"We don't know what to do now!" Percy exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air.
"Shh!" I said. I got out of my bed, and crept to the door, looking out into the hall to see if our parents had woken up, which thankfully they hadn't. I closed the door as quietly as possible, and walked back my bed, where Percy was now sitting.
"I wish you would tell them," he whispered. "I hate having to lie about this."
"It's not lying," I whispered back, pulling the covers back up. "It's just not telling them everything. They never asked directly 'So has Angelina been tortured by magic recently?'"
"You never know what our parents might ask, Angel," Percy replied, seriously.
I rolled my eyes, "Fine, I'll go see Hades this weekend with Nico. Will that make you happy?"
"I'd rather you didn't have to talk to Hades at all," he muttered.
"He's the only one who could give me answers."
"I hate him," he said.
"Well, I can't control that. Now, shoo," I said, kicking him lightly. "We both need to get some sleep."
Percy stood up, and shot me one last worried look, before leaving my room. I sighed, and fell back on my pillow, closing my eyes, wondering about what this weekend would bring.
I am so so so sorry about not updating for so long! I was really focused on writing my other PJO fanfic, which is now complete. I've been planning out this story, and I have to admit, this story seems like it will be a lot more dramatic than My Cursed Twin Sister, but we'll see. I'll probably change my plan at some point.
Hope you have an awesome day/evening/night,
