Chapter 2- Despair

Uru laid down on her bed, not making a single sound. She stared blankly at the ceiling, trying not to think about a certain SOMEONE. Unfortunately, the reality wasn't that kind, and all the memories of her times with Shindou started to appear in her head. The blank canvas ceiling had become a screen for a movie Uru never wanted to see again.
She imagined all the fun times in the bakery, and all the joys that once resided in her heart. Those times shattered, Uru couldn't help but think, If only Shindou hadn't left. I want the old days back. Her thoughts brought tears to start welling up. Uru shot up into a sitting position. She slapped her hands onto her face, grinned, and shouted, "Don't cry. Being depressed brings you nowhere!"

Slowly, her hands slid off of her face and her fake grin turned into a nearly crying face. The tears streamed down the side of her face and she crawled under the blankets and smothered her tears and sniffles with the small white pillow.

The Next Morning

Uru awoke to her alarm clock blaring loudly. Unlike her energetic self and immediately shutting it off looking forward to the day, Uru didn't move at all. Realizing the alarm was getting obnoxious, she pressed the stop button and hauled herself out of bed. Her eyes were bright red and extremely puffy. Glancing back at the pillow she had used, it was wet and looked absolutely disgusting. I need to wash the pillow case... ,Uru thought. She walked slowly to the bathroom and started getting ready. She knew she was going to be late and was prepared for the phone to start ringing.

She had just finished cleaning and drying up her face when the phone call arrived.

*Ring.. Ring

She walked briskly over to the telephone. She hesitated to pick it up, wondering if Shindou was on the other end of the line. Preparing herself she picked up the phone.

"Uru?"

It was Ichirou... "Yeah?"

"Are you coming to work today, or are you just late?"

Uru paused thinking about what to say then replied,"... No. I feel a bit... under the weather."

The real truth was that Uru didn't want to go to work. She knew Shindou was there and she would break down into hysterics if she saw him now.

"Hmm... You okay? Do you want me to check up on you?", Ichirou asked.

"NO!... I mean, no thanks. I'm fine..."

"...Alright, I'll relay that to Shindou. Get Well. Bye."

"Bye."

Uru put down the phone, she knew it was just an excuse. She was afraid. Terrified to hear the full explanation from Shindou. But Uru said nothing and wandered over to her closet and changed. On the way to the bed, she spread the curtains letting daylight stream into the room. She then grabbed her pillow and stripped the pillow cover off of it. She placed it in the clothes washer along with some other laundry from earlier the week. As the machine came alive Uru walked over to the small fridge and took out a small muffin with a cup of milk and sat down at the table. As she finished her muffin and started to drink the milk she gazed in a dazed state right outside into the busy town. Quietly she sipped her milk contemplating about what to do.

*At the Cafe*

Ichirou hung up the phone and turned to look at Shindou who was quietly wiping down the counter. Ichirou turned back to the phone and sighed. He knew what this was about. Uru was probably quite depressed. Her one love returning and THAT happening, he could understand why Uru feigned sickness. He turned back to Shindou and reported, "Uru doesn't feel too well. She's not coming in today."

The was no response from the quiet Shindou.

"Oi! Did you hear me?"

Shindou jumped and said," Huh? Oh.. uh yeah." and continued to wipe the counter that was already spotless.

Ichirou knew there was something more to this, and he was going to get it out of Shindou, soon.
