Chapter 6

The Chase

"I know, Hooker, but I didn't want any hard feelings, because I asked her to help me. With mom gone, I wanted Fran. Even dad suggested Fran."

"I would have suggested Fran, myself, if I had thought about it." Hooker smiled.

The conversation was interrupted with a radio call. "All units and 4 Adam 30, 2-11 in progress at the 7-11 on Brookshire and Broadway. Shots fired. 4 Adam 30 your call is code 3."

Stacy responded to the radio call. "4 Adam 30, roger."

Hooker hit the lights and sirens. "Well, kiddo. Let's get our head back in the game. Time to go to work."

Stacy nodded in response.

Officer Williamson responded to the call as well. "Dispatch, this is 4 Adam 16. Show us backing 4 Adam 30."

Dispatch. "That's a roger, 4 Adam 16."

As Hooker came near to the site of the robbery, they saw a green Mercedes pull out of the parking lot, at a high rate of speed.

"That must be our suspects," Stacy said. She radioed in the description of the vehicle to dispatch. "4 Adam 30 now in pursuit of a green Mercedes. License plate number Lincoln Adam 1, 7, henry 0 tango 1. Kentucky plates."

4 Adam 16 pulled into the parking lot of the 7-11. There they found a clerk who had been shot. Williamson ran back to the car. "I'll call for an ambulance."

Corrigan knelt at the clerk's side. "Help's on the way. Hang in there."

Whispering the clerk responded. "There's video of the robbery. We have security cameras. I don't know how good they will be. They were wearing masks and hoodies."

"Can you give a description of what they were wearing?" Corrigan asked.

Moaning in pain, the clerk shook his head, before slipping into unconsciousness.

Pat came into the store, after radioing for an ambulance. "Help is on its way."

Hooker and Stacy chased after the suspects through several intersections. They lost them as an 18-wheeler cut them off.

"Damn it!" Hooker slammed his hands on the steering wheel. "If only we could get a lead on who is doing this. Why the hell are the suspects using high end vehicles as their getaway cars?"

Stacy shook her head. "I don't know. I suspect one of the reasons they use the expensive cars is no one would suspect someone in an expensive car to rob a place."
