Daughter of Night

Chapter Nine

Zoey's (POV)

I crawled over to Persephone and reached up to untie her. "Persephone, could you lay down for me girl." She gave me a look of understanding and lied down. I patted her head and said "Thank you". I struggled to climb onto her back resting my butt in the saddle. I secured my feet in the stirrups. "Can you get up for me girl?" I asked. She answers me by slowly getting up, I grabbed he saddle to prevent me from toppling off. She walked out into the field. With direct contact with the sun, the burning became much worse. "Persephone, go as quickly as you can to get back to the stables. She took off, what I thought was fast before went out the window. I leaned as far as I could forward and wrapped my arms around her neck. I grasped my hands tightly together. My skin felt like somebody was frying or grilling me. The sun was one of the things that I was powerless against. All I could do was hope Persephone was fast enough.

I could see the stables in the distance relief filled me, knowing I would be okay. Persephone's heavy breathing filled the air as she pushed herself as fast as she could go. Once we arrived at the stables I called out "Professor Lenobia!, help me." She came from around the other side of the stables and asked "what's wrong". "The sun has burned me this never happened before" I answered. She ran up to me and helped me down from Persephone. Her hands against my burned skin caused me to hiss in pain, and my strength gave out and I collapsed to my knees. "Zoey, stand up and lean against me, we will go to the infirmary" Lenobia said. I stood up shakily, gritted my teeth, and leaned against her.

Once we reached the infirmary I thanked Lenobia. The nurses quickly had me to lay down on one of the beds. They gave me some pills, that they said would help with the pain. It caused my vision to go blurry and I fell into a dreamless sleep.

When I woke my body felt stiff from not being used. I could feel the bandages on my legs, arms, face, and neck caused me to feel itchy. I lifted my head up, I blinked a few times to clear my eyes of sleep. I looked around at my surroundings, I had been moved to my room. I started to pull off my bandages on my hands and gasped I was healed but not without evidence off my feat.(scars)

Authors Note: Zoey is not entirely perfect and she has weaknesses, though as of the moment she may seem too powerful (well maybe not this chapter). If anything is mixed up in these chapters it's because I have been on and off with the story.
