If you have been reading this from the day I first posted it, you'll notice the cover art is different. I like to redraw stuff over and over and over and over again, even if the previous version was pretty good. I'm probably going to redesign Charon repeatedly over the course of this story because I enjoy giving things a new look. Also, music choices for this chapter will mostly be from random anime or the Shin Megami Tensei games like Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, and Persona, but music in a fan fiction is optional, so, do what makes you the happiest!

Chapter 4: The Duel!

Fantasia Parade/Charon vs. Mira

The parade was finally here! Fans from all over came together to celebrate and enjoy a magnificent parade. It was bright, colorful and most importantly, It had all your favorite Fairy Tail members participating in it. Cana and her group were making magical hearts, Elfman and Mirajane were going as their take overs, Gray and Juvia were making an ice castle with many spectacle effects, and Natsu, though wrapped from head to toe in bandages was doing his part and using his fire magic to spell out words and impress the audience. Watching from the rooftops was Charon, the newly accepted member of the guild and fast friend to the ones he saved during the battle.

Charon thinks to himself 'What a sight! This parade is nothing to sneeze at, that's for damn sure! The more and more I get to know the guild, the more I feel at home.' He looks up at the sky laying on his back 'This path I'm on is one that can only be accomplished by me...' he smiles 'but it won't hurt to have friends there to help me.'

The cheers could be heard for miles, with the parade continuing through till midnight, the crowds slowly but surely cleared the streets and went back to their respective homes to bed. Charon however was fast asleep on the roof he was viewing the parade from.

Morning...

The guild was happy with the responsibility of the parade now lifted of their shoulders till the next one, and the rowdiness of the conversation show it. The chatter was interrupted however when the guild hall doors almost slammed open.

"Oh.. sorry about the noise." Charon said cringing at his mistake. "You won't believe how comfortable a roof can be!" He stretches. "I haven't slept like that in weeks!"

A drowsy Natsu, Happy and Lucy were at a table and looked over to him.

Lucy waves. "Hey Charon! You're here early!"

"Yeah, I never really sleep in all that much..." Charon then sits at a bar stool next to where they were.

Lucy realized something "Aren't you going to fight Mirajane today?! How can you be so calm?!"

"Why would I worry?" Charon looked at her confused.

Lucy was now even more confused "Are you serious?! Well, you are new here, so its only natural that you wouldn't know..."

"Wouldn't know what?"

Lucy begins explaining "Well, you see, Mira is an S-class wizard and one of the most powerful individuals in Fairy Tail. She's a force to be reckoned with!"

Mira overheard the conversation and decided to join in "Oh my, I'm not that powerful, I just do what I have to, to protect my friends.. and my family." At the word family, Mira drops the smile and looks gloomy.

Charon noticed her gloom "You ok, you seem upset."

Her smile returned "I'm fine, thanks for asking!"

"I saw your power during the battle and I know for a fact that our battle later today'll be fun." Charon smiles towards Mira "Let's make a friendly wager shall we?"

"Sure, sounds fun!" Mira laughs

"If I beat you, I want to be an S-class wizard like you. It's only fair, right?"

The people around him were all dumbfounded and their jaws dropped to the floor. Even Natsu, who was half asleep was shocked. The master, who was sitting over in the tables joined in.

"ABSOLUTELY NOT! YOU THINK YOU CAN BECOME AN S-CLASS WIZARD IN LESS THAN A WEEK YOU'VE GOT SOME NER..." The master was interrupted

"Whats the problem with that? Its only natural if someone can beat an S-class, they should be one too." Mira spoke up. "I accept your bet, but if I win, you have dinner with me!"

All the color on Charon's face washed away and he fell back out of his seat. The same could be said with the rest of the guild including the master. Charon got back up after the demand.

"WHAT?! LIKE A DATE?! I DON'T KNOW A THING ABOUT THAT KIND OF STUFF! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ME?!" Charon was terrified, but takes a second to calm down. "It's not like I'm gonna lose anyway so, I accept." Charon says with embarrassment on his face.

Elfman, who was Mirajane's younger brother stood up "I DON'T THINK SO, YOU HAVE TO BE A REAL MAN TO GO OUT WITH MY SISTER!" He prepares to attack Charon.

Charon, without even looking, stops Elfman with his left middle finger and flicks him across the guild hall.

"Oops, sorry..." Charon looks embarrassed "Didn't mean to use that much force.."

Natsu, Lucy, and Mira both witnessed Elfman fly across the room and look back at Charon with astonishment.

Natsu looked at the collateral damage "Reminds me of Gildarts."

Charon heard him, but decided to stay quiet.

The master saw him flick Elfman across the room "My my... Very well Charon, If you manage to defeat Mirajane during you duel, you will be immediately promoted to an S-class wizard.

Charon grins and looks at Mira "Very well, our fight is in a few hours so prepare yourself."

"Don't count me out this early, I'm more than capable of taking you down." she says pointing her thumb down as him.

The stage was set for the fight between Charon and Mirajane

Charon vs. Mirajane!

The crowd was gathered around the battle area made on the beaches of Magnolia and their cheers were loud and rowdy. Erza, Nastu, Lucy, Gray, and everybody else were excited to see a good fight!

Charon thinks to himself 'That's a lot of people to see us fight, better put on a good show for them.' he grins. "Prepare yourself Mirajane!"

"Right! Take Over: Satan Soul!" She transforms into her demon self and prepares to do battle.

The Master shouts. "LET THE MATCH BEGIN!" The crowd cheers even louder.

(SMT: NOCTURNE OST. NORMAL BATTLE-LARGE MAP or any casual battle music you wish)

Mira take the initiative and leaps forward for an attack. It lands on Charon's forehead and he disappears and reappears behind her and bashes her with the giant fan sending her flying back.

Charon opens the fan and swings it. "Sky Devil's Wind Guillotine!" A gust of wind shaped in one huge blade rushed toward her and she dodged. He swings again at her new location. "Sky Devil's Multiple Wind Shuriken!" Again, she dodged the attacks.

Charon smirks "You're quick, I'll give you that. The only thing that was able to dodge that before was Etherious Zaneth, but he used lightning magic and he's dead now."

"You flatter me, but I think I'll end this now! Soul Extinction!" a stream of black colored magic was on its way towards Charon, who just held out his left hand.

"On the contrary, I'm the one who'll end this." a red aura surrounded him causing his hair to spike up and his teeth to grow fang like. He opened his eyes to reveal that they both turned black and red. "Sky Dominion." he said calmly. The air around Charon became heavy and Mira's darkness magic stopped right before him, almost like it was stopped by the air itself.

Mira looked shocked "Impossible, you didn't move a muscle and you stopped Soul Extinction! How?!"

He looks up at her "I have complete dominion over the atmosphere itself. The air around me is my ultimate defense and offense! It works best against magic infused with demonic magic particles. Let me show you!" with the flick of his wrist, he causes hurricane speed red winds to impact Mira flying backwards sending her crashing into the ground.

Mira gets up. "I guess I should stop holding back then." She lunges at Charon, rapidly punching at him, but none of the punches were landing past the air defense. The result was a tired Charon panting, trying to catch his breath. Sky dominion was an excellent defense, but a huge drain on magic. Mira was in a similar situation. Her Take Over was effective, but it rapidly used up her magic.

"You're an awesome opponent, ya know that Mira!" Charon said smiling

"Likewise! But I think we should actually end this!

"Agreed!" Charon said just before opening his mouth and sucking in a hurricane of air, about to use rage.

Mira on the other hand, was preparing another Soul Extinction, but bigger.

"SKY DEVIL'S..." Charon pulled pack

"SOUL..." Mira pooled her remaining power into the attack

"RAAAAAAAAAAGGGEEEE!"

"EXTINCTION!"

Their attacks collided causing an enormous shock wave of force, knocking every viewer off their feet, and sending them flying. The cloud of smoke was the only thing in the way of deciding the victor and it was a few minutes before anyone could see a single thing.

After a few minutes the dust settled... Only one was left standing...

Charon was the one left standing. Mira was knocked out in the crater they had created.

The crowd was speechless. Mirajane was an incredibly powerful wizard and to see her defeated was shocking to say the least.

The master shouts. "CHARON PAPILLION IS THE VICTOR! AS THE DEAL WENT, HE IS NOW OFFICIALLY, AN S-CLASS WIZARD OF FAIRY TAIL!"

Charon was happy, but drained. He collapsed after hearing the results of the match and lost consciousness with a smile on his face.

A hour later...

Mira and Charon were both sent to the infirmary so they could recover.

The master walks up to Charon's bed "I'm going to have to talk to him after he recovers, but for now, he should rest, he deserves it."

I never thought writing my own battle scene would be this much fun, and I hope you like them as much as I do.
