Chapter 15: Initiation Part II
Adam was soaring through the air with a big smile on his face as he felt the breeze against his face, he concentrated on the task that was ahead of him as he realised he needed to stop himself from colliding with the large trees that were in his way. He grabbed Wolf Shroud out of its sheath and converted it into its gun form, he grabbed the chain it was attached to and fired it into a branch and swung himself down to a lower branch, from there he started leaping from tree to tree listening for any unusual sounds that belonged to either Grimm or a hunter. After a while he heard the crunching of the leaves on the ground below, he stopped where he was and looked for the source or the crunching. He noticed a hunter with brown hair and a large sword on his back casually walking through the forest without any care, Adam flinched when the other person abruptly stopped and put his hand on his sword.
"You can come down anytime you want, partner" the young man laughed at him. Adam had a look of shock on his face when the other man had addressed him even though Adam had kept himself well hidden. He scolded himself for being careless, because he knew if he had been an enemy he would certainly be dead.
"You coming down or am I dragging you down?" the hunter asked.
"Give me a minute" he responded. Adam hopped down from the branch gracefully and landed with one hand to stabilise himself, he observed who his partner was going to be and he realised that they hadn't been introduced.
"I'm sorry for being rude, my name's Adam" the Faunus apologised.
"Pleasure to meet you Adam, my name's Dean" the boy introduced.
"Well then I guess we're partners for the next four years" Adam smiled to Dean.
"Let's get going then" Dean responded. Both of them continued their journey through the forest, it was uneventful until they came to the temple when they saw Reginald and Lance sprinting out of the woods. They heard a horrendous screeching when Adam realised what the sound was and he went completely pale, Dean noticed his partner's fear and drew his weapon and dropped into his battle stance when he finally saw it; the largest Deathstalker he'd ever seen in his life, both Adam and Dean broke into a sprint to charge the Deathstalker and save Reginald and Lance.
Lance started flying through the air and watched where the other students were falling, he noticed his cousin falling through the air with his weapon already drawn. He knew he had to find him before anyone else had the chance, so he took notice of where he landed and where the temple was. He started his descent and started focusing on his point of impact with the ground and tucked his head just before he hit the ground to roll onto his feet. As soon as he stood he started sprinting in the approximate direction of Reginald. As he ran he listened to sound of leaves crunching and gunshots being fired, Adam ran quickly towards the sounds and he stopped at what he saw: his cousin dismembering a pack of Beowolves with ease. Lance prepared himself to help him, he looked off to the left behind Reginald and noticed the Beowolf that was quickly charging for the kill. Lance threw his fist back and fired a round at the head of the Beowolf throwing the beast backwards and killing it by snapping its neck when it slammed into a tree. Reginald looked towards Lance with a look of disgust.
"What, you don't want to be my partner?" Lance asked.
"Just stop." Reginald responded.
"With what?" He asked confused.
"With trying to make me feel guilty" Reginald said back.
"Come on Reggie just stop trying to be the lone wolf" Lance said.
"You're angering me" Reginald responded.
"Fine let's just go" Lance sighed. They both walked in the direction of the temple, they continued to do this until they came across a cave standing in the middle of the forest.
"So you think we should go in?" Lance smirked.
"Why?" Reginald simply responded.
"We might find something interesting down there" Lance said.
"Doubtful" Reginald spat back.
"There could be a Grimm down there" Lance smiled. He knew that the prospect of Grimm would be enough to get Reginald to explore the cave.
"Fine then, but if there's nothing in there you have to enter the Vytal Festival whether you like it or not and you have to maintain high grades" Reginald said to his cousin.
"Fine" Lance sighed. The cousins entered the cave and started to explore carefully when they came across an unnatural formation in the cave.
"So you still think this was a good idea?" Reginald asked sarcastically.
"Oh hardy har Reginald" Lance said back.
"What?!" Reginald asked angrily.
"Okay Reggie, sorry" Lance said back.
"Did you feel that?" Reginald asked.
"I felt something" Lance responded seriously. They started walking through cautiously until Reginald tripped over and landed in a puddle. Lance chuckled at him and waited until he stood up, they looked ahead where they saw a glowing object. Lance looked at Reginald and sighed because he knew what the glow was.
"So you gonna help me fight it?" Reginald questioned.
"You see how big it is, that thing is huge" Lance responded.
"So?" Reginald said back.
"It's probably the biggest recorded one if we manage to kill it" Lance responded.
"We can do it" Reginald said to his cousin. Lance looked at him with a fire in his eyes, they were interrupted by a hissing noise. They both looked in the direction of the hissing when they were confronted by six red eyes, they both started to back up from the eyes.
"We need to get away, now" Lance said to Reginald.
"We can take it" Reginald responded.
"We're going to die before we even start our first day if we don't go now" he hissed.
"Why should we run?" Reginald questioned.
"Think of it as a tactical retreat" Lance shot back.
"Fine then, let's go" Reginald said. They both turned and started running for their lives out of the cave and in the direction of the temple when a huge Deathstalker broke open the cave and started pursuing them through the forest breaking trees and tearing up the ground as it wildly swung its claw and stabbed with its tail. Professors Ozpin and Goodwitch were watching as the Deathstalker pursued both cousins through the forest.
"Ozpin, we need to do something" Professor Goodwitch said in a worried tone.
"As much as we want to Glynda, we can't" Ozpin responded.
"But they'll die" Glynda said with conviction.
"That is one of the largest creatures I've ever seen" a voice called out from behind. They both turned around to see Jaune and Pyrrha Arc standing there.
"I know" Ozpin simply responded.
"And nothing can be done because it's their fight and it will make or break them" Pyrrha looked sombrely.
"Unfortunately this is part of their initiation" Ozpin said the former students.
"We need to just watch them and hope they're strong enough to kill it" Goodwitch interjected. Lance and Reginald continued running until they saw a clearing ahead, Lance smiled knowing that they now had a better chance of beating the monster. They continued to run to the temple until they heard shouting, when they looked over they noticed Adam and someone they'd never seen before running over to them with their weapons ready. They all made it into the temple and started taking cover behind the pillars trying to avoid the claws of the Deathstalker.
"So hey Adam, and also who's your partner?" Lance yelled over to his friend.
"This is Dean" Adam smiled back.
"What's with the smile?" Lance asked.
"This was supposed to be easier than what I had expected." Adam called.
"Guys what's the game plan here?" Dean asked.
"The plan is Reggie uses his speed to harass with a mix of close attacks with his scythe and bullets from a distance, Adam will get close and keep its attention while I try and make its tail useless by breaking it however possible" Lance responded.
"What about you?" He added on.
"My semblance allows me to create kinetic energy and redirect through any part of my body or weapon" Dean responded back.
"Okay then you can make sure that none of us get killed using your semblance" Lance called over.
"Alright how about killing it?" Adam asked.
"On my signal Adam you change your weapon into its gun form and try to blind it, Reginald you and Dean remove its tail and hen that's done, I'll launch Dean into the air and he uses his semblance to slam its tail into its body and kill it and after that we grab our relics and run." Lance explained. They all nodded in acknowledgement and charged out and started fighting the creature. Reginald took they lead and started attacking with his scythe and hit its sides and back causing the creature to move back and flailing with its tail, Adam took this as his cue and got in front slashing at its head and claws. The creature swung its right claw and Dean jumped in front and swung with the side of his sword repelling the creatures' claw and catching it off guard for Lance to start attacking its tail. He started attacking the joints in its armour causing it to screech in pain from the beating it took, Reginald started peppering it with bullets and causing it shift its focus between Reginald who was attacking it all over, Adam who was in front and Lance who was on its back. Lance called out to the others that it was time to kill it, Adam shifted his weapon and started shooting it in the eyes causing the creature to block its face and retreat. Reginald and Dean jumped on its back and started hacking at the creatures' stinger, Lance jumped off its back and helped to protect Adam from the claws. Reginald hooked his scythe on the stinger and fired his weapon and cut most of its stinger off, Dean jumped up and removed the rest of the stinger causing it to get embedded into its body, Adam and Reginald moved away while Lance jumped onto its back again. Dean jumped onto Lance's hands where Lance launched him as high as possible with some assistance from Dean helping himself get as high as possible, Dean drew his sword and waited until he started to fall when he started to spin himself gathering power into his weapon and when he got close he swung his sword as hard as possible causing the stinger to kill the Deathstalker. They all cheered at the feat they had just accomplished, they all turned and walked into the temple where Dean and Lance grabbed a relic each. They made their way back to the cliff where they saw Ozpin and Goodwitch standing with Jaune and Pyrrha.
"Well congratulations to you guys for your kill" Jaune smiled.
"It certainly was the biggest Deathstalker I've ever seen, possibly ever recorded" Pyrrha commented.
"We will have it examined later on when everybody' out of there" Ozpin said to them.
"Who's left then?" Adam asked.
"Only Joker and Ace Teal and Emerald Frost" Goodwitch answered.
