You Say Goodbye

Kaoru dragged himself into his father's vehicle. The ruling had obviously ruled in his favor, as his mother had bashed a vodka bottle into his head. Apparently she'd been drinking, but it'd been a Friday night! It wasn't the first time Kaoru had had to sober her up, but…they just didn't understand! They didn't understand the moron his father was!

"But what about school?" the teen argued, "I can't leave like this!"

"You'll just have to start again next year." Kaoru sighed as he sank into his seat, "…Look, I'm really sorry, Kaoru. I'll try to be around for you more."

This didn't impress Kaoru, however, and he simply turned away to glare out the window. It was then that he noticed Daisuke approaching from the side mirror. He quickly swung open his door to pull the teen into an embrace. He was cut short, however, by the small ball of white fluff in his hands.

"Huh?...Daisuke? What-ah! A kitten!" he exclaimed as the white fluff was transferred to Kaoru, "Oh Daisuke! You didn't need to do all this!"

"I wanted you to have Mia, even when you aren't playing." Kaoru's vision blurred at the explanation, "Take care of her, okay?"

"But Daisuke…I…." he swallowed back his tears, "…Why does it feel like you're saying 'goodbye'? We'll see each other online, won't we?"

"I'll try, but…I'm a lot busier now. But with Mia…I hope you can think of me sometimes." the sophomore voiced before offering a small kiss, "I'll always be thinking of you."

"….Daisuke...—well call me sometime, okay? Just keep in touch! Tell me how it is in Ireland!"

"Of course!" he seemed more willing to do this, though Kaoru knew that Daisuke would probably never enjoy 'The World' again…not after what his father did on 'The World'. Even so, he still had the small hope that they would play again one day….the three of them…with Mia.

"C'mon Kaoru, I have to be at work tonight." his father pressed, and the teen slowly nodded in compliance.

"…So…I guess I'll…see you later?" Daisuke smiled and nodded at this.

"We may take a field trip up there one day soon to visit another university. I'll call you, okay?"

"Oh! Please do!" he encouraged, "Oh Daisuke…I'll miss you so much!"

Kaoru kissed him again and attempted to prolong the moment, but it was broken by the honk of his father's car.

"…Oh….okay….well…thanks again for this kitten…it's adorable…." Kaoru said as the kitten melted between his fingers, "I…I…"

Daisuke wiped the tears streaming from Kaoru's cheeks. It was so ridiculous, but it really did feel like they wouldn't see each other again. Perhaps it was fated to be that way…

"Kaoru!" the teen carefully cradled the kitten as he made his way back to his father's car. He didn't say anything about the cat, despite his expressed dislike for pets. He knew Kaoru would take good care of it, though. The kitten-Mia…Mia purred in his arms as he stroked her back. He glanced back out the window to see Daisuke waving goodbye and blowing kisses. Kaoru sadly smiled and waved back, watching the teen disappear up the street.

"You'll see you friend again, don't worry." his father reassured, but he knew he wouldn't. Probably not.

END. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did! Thank you for sticking around through all the waiting, editing, and more waiting! I may upload a bonus "chapter" with the pictures I promised. I just haven't drawn anything I've liked yet, and I wanted to upload these first. Anyway, chiao!
