A soft beep was heard as Dustin started to come to. With the faint smell of bleach in the air and the white walls, Dustin realized that he was in the hospital.

As Dustin took in his surroundings he noticed that his weapons were at the foot of his bed. With a gasp he saw that the gauntlet connected to Deadly Coward was severely damaged. Right where his bicep would be there were puncture marks all over the metal.

'What happened' Dustin wondered.

He looked on his right arm and noticed that it was bandaged. 'What the heck happened' he asked again.

'Hey Night' he thought, 'where are you?' Nobody answered.

"Maybe he's sleeping" he said aloud.

Dustin then realized that he had to use the loo, he took the IV and the cords related the the heart monitor out of his body. Since the heart moniter couldn't record a heartbeat it flat lined, but Dustin ignored the annoying sound in favor of going to the bathroom.

When he got out of the bed, Dustin didn't take two steps before two nurses and a doctor stormed into his room.

"Sir, you must lay back down immediately" the nurse cried.

"But I have to go to the bathroom" he explained.

"Let him go Marcy" the doctor said.

"But doctor, surely-

"Marcy" the doctor interrupted, "let this young man use the bathroom, then you can do a preliminary checkup"

After Dustin relieved himself he laid back in the bed and let the two nurses do their checkup. While they were doing that the doctor spoke to Dustin.

"Hello Dustin my name is doctor Ceil. You gave us quite a scare when your team mate's brought you in here." The doctor consulted his clipboard. "You seem to have had a lot of venom running through your system."

"How long was I out" Dustin asked.

"Only two days".

As the nurses left the room the doctor closed the door behind them. "Now Dustin I need you to tell me all that you remember about the initiation you went through."

As Dustin told him all about what happened he began to reminiscent himself.

Flashback

"Dustin!"

As the Ursa Major bit Dustin he managed to raise his gauntlet covered hand to intercept the death blow. He grunted as the crushing force of the Ursa Major's jaw collided with his gauntlet. Dustin let out a sigh of relief when he managed to hold of his meeting with death, but his eyes widened when he noticed the muscles in the beast jaw flex.

Dustin let out a cry as the Ursa Major pierced through his gauntlet and into his soft flesh. With a roar of rage Yang fired off a blast from her weapon. It hit the grim in the face and it growled.

Yang growled back at it and said, "get away from my boyfriend".

The grim let off a roar and charged towards Yang. Yang prepared herself for the oncoming monster when out of nowhere Nora hit the grim with her hammer. "Hiiiya" she yelled out.

The snarling monster was launched into the bushes, but nobody paid it any attention in favor of running towards their injured friend. "How is he?" Yang asked Ren, who got to Dustin first.

"Look for yourself" he said as he moved out the way so they could see Dustin. Yang winced as she saw the extent of Dustin's injuries, four large puncture wounds, two on the top and two on the bottom of his arm. Each wound was oozing blood.

"It's not as bad as it looks" Dustin groaned as he tried to sit up. He grabbed his scythe as Ren helped him stand up. "Are you sure he should be standing up" Pyrrha asked.

"He's our best fighter" said Ren. "Not like that he isn't" Yang countered. "Uhh guys" Nora said as she pointed to the huge lumbering grim.

"Save your bickering for later you guys" Pyrrha said as she readied her weapon. Nora charged the beast while Ren covered her by firing at it. Yang flanked to the right and Pyrrha transformed her weapon into a spear and threw it at the grim.

The spear hit the Ursa major right between the eyes, Ren's bullets peppered the monster in the face. The grim roared in pain but failed to notice Nora coming up and bashing it in the face with her hammer, unintentionally forcing Pyrrha's spear deeper into the grims head.

The beast fell to the ground groaning in pain, this is when Yang decided to strike. She released a fury of punches into the Ursa Majors side damaging it even further.

Knowing that he wasn't going to be much help Dustin threw his scythe at the grim and yelled "Pyrrha, semblance now"! Pyrrha nodded and used her semblance to force the scythe to go faster as it traveled towards the grim.

Just as the scythe was about to hit the grim Nora used her hammer to give it a little extra power, the scythe went through the grim like butter and embedded itself into the tree behind it.

Immediately after the death of the Ursa Major a helicopter touched down right into the middle of the clearing. Two doctors carrying a stretcher raced out to get Dustin who was just barely holding on. Once Dustin and his teammates were on the helicopter, the medics signaled the pilot to take off.

Flashback End

"And that's all I remember" Dustin finished. "Okay then", Doctor Ceil said as he consulted his clipboard, "that seems to follow the story that your friends gave to me".

"Where are my friends?" Dustin asked.

The doctor looked at his watch, "there probably in the cafeteria right about now".

"Can I go now"? Dustin asked the doctor. The doctor nodded and walked out of the room.

Dustin got out of bed and went to change into his regular garb. He went to put his gauntlet back on but remembered the beating it took and threw it on the bed. 'Guess I'll have to visit the forge' he thought. He holstered Bloody Nightmare to his body and grabbed Deadly Coward off the bed. As he walked out of the room, he felt a familiar presence enter his mind.

'Welcome to the world of the living sleeping beauty' a sarcastic voice said in his mind. 'Hello to you to Night' Dustin replied, 'what have I missed'? 'Nothing much' Night said, 'just some friends that visited you'

At this point Dustin made it to the cafeteria and looked around for his friends. "Dustin"! Someone yelled. Dustin looked in that direction and saw Yang waving.

When Dustin finally made his way over he was suddenly glomped by a mass of blonde hair. "Hello to you to Yang" Dustin said as he hugged her back.

"Hey guys" Dustin waved awkwardly to the rest of the gang. "Hey Dustin"! cried Nora and Pyrrha. Ren just nodded.

This is when Dustin noticed Ruby, Jean, a girl with a bow in her hair, and Weiss. "Hey guys" he said waving at them. No one answered him except for the girl. "Hi I'm Blake" she said.

"Hey I'm Dustin" he answered back.

Dustin took a seat between Yang and Blake, he placed his gauntlet on the floor. He turned to Blake, "what's up with those guys" he said pointing to the remainder of green team.

Said team was wallowing in pity for different reasons.

"Well" Blake started, "Weiss is sad because she's on a team with Ruby and Jeans sad because his sword broke. "OH" Dustin said just noticing the leather bag at Jeans feet with a handle sticking out of it.

"What about Ruby" he asked.

Blake shrugged.

"It's because she's not on red team" Yang said softly looking at Ruby softly.

"What's so special about red team" Dustin asked. "It was the team our mother was on" Yang answered.

"Oh" said Dustin sending a look towards Ruby.

Dustin turned back to his own team, "so what's happening today" Dustin asked. "Today's the leadership ceremony" Ren said.

"Okay" Dustin said, "so what do we do in the meantime"?

"Nothing" Pyrrha said, "we have to wait in the cafeteria till night fall". "Alright" Dustin said getting up.

"Where are you going" Nora asked.

"I'm going to go talk to the other teams" he said.

As Dustin mingled with the other teams he learned every team color. There's a Gold, Green, Red, Purple, White, Orange, Blue, Black, Brown, Lime, Cyan, Grey, and Magenta. After conversing with all the other teams Dustin went back to where his friends are. "C'mon guys it's time to go".

The freshmen were escorted into the coliseum like arena where they were greeted loudly by the rest of the school. The kids were moved to the middle of the arena right in front of professor Ozpin.

Professor Ozpin spoke through a microphone that came from the floor.

"Greetings freshman, I hope you all had fun in the forest". The kids in the stands sniggered. "Today is the day that you will become official students at Beacon, but before that you need to understand the history of Beacon."

"You were told that Beacon was a school for fighting the grim. That was a lie" the freshman all had shocked looks on their face.

"Make no mistake" Ozpin continued, "you will be fighting grim, and you will be hunters. Under the Child Labor Act no one under the age of eighteen can be in the military."

" Vale city is a wonderful place" Ozpin continued.

"But Vale is the weakest out of the four kingdoms, military wise. This is because the other kingdoms can have child soldiers, unlike Vale."

The new students looked at each other, they didn't know this.

"This led to the creation of Beacon academy" Ozpin said. "The law say that you students cannot become soldiers until eighteen, so you won't. You will become hunters".

"But you will be trained as soldiers."

Ozpin looked directly at the students. "You have thirty seconds to decide whether or not you will stay at Beacon" he said seriously.

Nobody moved.

"Excellent" he said happily, "now you are all officially hunters. Please gather around the rest of your team, it's time to determine your team's leader."

Professor Goodwitch got on the stage.

"During your initiation the professors of Beacon were examining you. We then put up a vote to see who had the best leadership abilities." Goodwitch said.

"Now then will Purple team please step forward? Your team leader is Drew Onaka." Everybody clapped as Drew was handed a pair of sunglasses.

"This is the token that symbolizes you as the leader of Purple Team." Said Goodwitch. Two guys and a girl walked onto the arena. Each person had a pair of black sunglasses.

"Purple team" the girl called out, "follow me".

This is what happened to every single team Dustin noticed. The team was called, the leader was then picked and handed a special item that identified them as the leader. Then the upperclassmen leaders of the same team walked down and called them off the stage.

Dustin noticed that each team leader got a different item. Purple team got a pair of glasses, Orange team got a belt, Cyan team got a necklace, White team got a badge, Black team got a cross, Blue team got an orb. Lime team got a knife, Red team got a Bracelet, Brown team got a watch, Grey team got a trench coat, and Magenta team got a shield.

Now only two teams were left, Gold and Green team. Dustin looked over at Green team and saw Ruby bouncing on her feet. 'Someone's excited' he thought.

'I wonder what item Gold team gets' he thought, 'obviously are team leader is Ren, he's a tactical genius'. Professor Goodwitch voice cut through his thoughts, "will Green team please step forward." Dustin gave Weiss a thumbs up as she walked passed him. Weiss smiled back.

The team leader of Green team is Juane Ark"! Everybody clapped once his name was called. Every single person on Green team was shocked, but no one was more shocked the Jean.

Professor Goodwitch handed Jean an earring and two pretty brunettes and a tall dark skinned boy walked on the stage. "Green team" the boy roared, "with me".

Now Dustin was really excited, it was now their turn. He looked at Ren and thought 'he would be a great leader'. "Will gold team please come forward" Goodwitch said. Gold team stepped forward and they all stood ramrod straight.

"Your team leader is..."

"Dustin"!
