Ok guys, so this is a random little one-shot thing. I originally wrote it for my English class. We had to write a letter/poem in the eyes of a soldier in war and write our "gut feelings" about war in general. This is what I came up with...
To Arthur:
Wars are wasteful
A waste of time
A waste of resources
And unfortunately, a waste of life
We fight for what we believe is right
and for what the rest of our people
believe is right
But what about those who fight in our wars
Where is their right to live?
Or the civilians in the opposing countries
Where is their right to a normal livelihood?
America may be a superpower in this world
and I may consider it my duty
to conserve world peace to the best of my abilities
and use that power for "good"
But to what point,
to what extent,
must we go to,
to protect those beliefs?
How far must we go
Until we realize
That somewhere behind us
We crossed the line
To me,
War is just a waste,
Even though I realize that
sometimes it's a necessity
Love,
Alfred
