A/N: Sorry for the wait guys! School's been my priority for the last little while, so I haven't had time to pump this out.
Hello to all the new followers and thanks everyone for the positive feedback! On with the show
How am I still alive? I thought to myself, seconds after I was violently thrown against the bottom of my force field. Battered and bruised, I opened my eyes to survey the area around me. Firstly, it was dark...very dark. The only light was a small pinprick coming from the elevator doors above us and the soft glow from my force field. From what I could see, we weren't at the bottom of the elevator shaft. In fact, I couldn't even see the bottom. I breathed a sigh of relief and silently thanked myself for keeping the force field around us the entire time. It looked to me that the sticky substance that we were assaulted with in the hallway had saved our lives. The black globules were stuck to the wall, holding the force field in place.
I stood up as best I could in the sphere, and helped Elsa to her feet as well. We stood there together for a moment, in shared disbelief as we supported each other. Silently, Elsa knelt down and placed her hand against the barrier between us and the umpteen-storey drop. Gradually, the temperature dropped and I could see a plane of ice forming below us. Slowly, the ice made a path that inclined to the nearest set of doors. Next, Elsa focused her powers on the sticky substance holding us in place. The ball of black goo cracked as it turned to ice from the inside out, exploding not a moment later from the foreign pressure. I let out a yelp of surprise as the force field dropped onto Elsa's makeshift slide and rolled towards the doorway like a strange human hamster ball.
Once the chaotic motion stopped, the two of us lay in a crumpled mess at the bottom of the force field again. A loud crack drew my attention back to the ice slide that brought us to the door as a large chunk of ice plummeted down the shaft. I stood up and helped Elsa, who took one look back at the slide and shut her eyes in concentration.
"Elsa, are you okay?" I asked, even though I knew the answer
"I can't control it." She replied through gritted teeth.
Another look at the ice slide revealed that the entire thing was glistening wet. It was beginning to melt.
I grabbed Elsa's arm and backed up as far as we could before I let the force field dissipate. We stood on the narrow ledge, our backs to the doors as we watched the ice slide gradually thaw and disappear. Elsa's face was soaked with sweat and I could only assume that under her skin-tight bodysuit was the same. Can't she just cool herself down? I asked myself, but before I could say anything out loud, I heard muffled voices on the other side of the doors.
"Quick, Elsa, we need to get out of here." I whispered to her, shaking her out of the silent trance and back to our increasingly dire situation. She nodded, but before she could reply, the door behind us emitted a loud SKEEECH. Someone was trying to open it!
Without a moment spared for thought, I grabbed Elsa's arm and jumped off the ledge.
Although the ledge was slippery, I managed to grab a hold of it with my one hand, while holding Elsa with the other. Not a second had passed before I realized how stupid of an idea this was. How could I possibly hope to hold up myself AND Elsa with one hand?! The strain on my arms and shoulders was unbelievable, coupled with the scratches and bruises from earlier. I chanced a look above to see that the elevator doors were almost completely open, spilling light into the dark shaft. There's no time to hesitate now I thought as I turned my entire body invisible. I closed my eyes and hoped against hope that this would work.
"What's that on the wall?" A gruff voice asked from above me. I briefly opened my eyes to see what he was talking about and cursed under my breath.
The grey concrete was darkened as if someone had thrown a pail of water at it, and there were trails of wetness that snaked down the wall into the depths of the elevator shaft. The melting ice bridge hadn't completely disappeared apparently. I looked up to see an armoured guard leaning over the edge and looking down at us. Well, looking through me and at Elsa. It took a moment for him to register what he was seeing, but by the time he did it was too late. Elsa fired an icy blast at him that covered his visor and froze his helmet completely. Losing his balance, he tumbled over the edge, past us and down into the gaping abyss.
I looked down at Elsa, stunned, but she couldn't read my invisible expression. She was busy building a platform of ice under her. She let go of my hand and stood on her makeshift ledge. With the tension released from my arms, I pulled myself up to level with the floor beyond the elevator doors. A single guard was kneeling down, maybe twenty feet from me, staring at the open doors with his pistol pointed towards the blackness. I slowly climbed over the ledge and backed against the wall away from his sight line. I could hear the unique sound of Elsa's ice forming as she made her way to the door. I had to make sure this guard didn't shoot her.
I inched along the wall, trying to stay as silent as possible. I glanced back at the elevator door to make sure that Elsa wasn't visible and then I lunged at the guard. The element of surprise was on my side and I managed to knock him to the ground and get a few hits in before he started firing blindly. I immediately jumped off of him and scrambled back towards the wall. I looked to my left to see that not only had Elsa reached the floor, she was standing up and clear of the elevator doors. Then I noticed the blood.
Dark red liquid started to seep from the wound in her shoulder and Elsa dropped to one knee. Droplets of blood fell to the floor in a slow succession. I looked to the guard who had now recovered and was standing with his pistol pointed at Elsa.
He fired again.
"NO!" I yelled as the bullet tore through the air towards my new companion. The bullet seemed to fly in slow motion and then it stopped.
Wait, what?
Elsa looked up at the guard and the reason for the stopped projectile became clear. Her furrowed brow and frightening glare were all too telling. The bullet began icing over and a stream of ice shot backwards and into the pistol in the guard's outstretched hands. The gun exploded almost instantly and the guard dropped to his knees. He let out a high pitched scream that seemed to echo through the hall before all sound was cut off in an instant. He just knelt there, frozen in place with his hands over his ears.
"Elsa, what did you do?" I asked, shaking as I became visible. She looked at me, her face relaxing and her eyes glossing over. She collapsed to the ground and I rushed over to help her. Her shoulders were shaking as I knelt down beside her. She was whispering to herself and what I could hear between gasps for air frightened me.
"...monster...was right, I never...killed all of them..." She muttered to herself between sobs.
I placed a hand on her shoulder in an attempt to comfort her but-
"DON'T TOUCH ME!" Elsa screamed before she buried her face in her hands and continued sobbing.
"I'm sorry," she choked out after a moment, "I-I didn't me-mean to hurt...anyone. I'm a monster V-Violet. You should just get away from me. GET AWAY!"
"Elsa, stop. I'm not leaving you here." I replied, slightly taken aback by the aggressive display of emotion. "You saved my life and I believe you. You didn't mean to hurt him...or anyone."
Just then, my hearing was filled with a ringing sound that seemingly came out of nowhere. I tried to block my ears, but I found that I couldn't move my hands. In fact, I couldn't move anything. My vision was tinted blue and before I could react to anything, I was lifted off my feet and floating down the hallway.
Zero Point Energy. The strange sensation was something I had felt before, and hoped never to feel again. Elsa was in the same predicament as me, frozen in place with her hands covering her eyes.
Before I knew it, we were inside a room very similar to the one I rescued Elsa from. There were scientists everywhere, and armed guards lined the perimeter. In the middle was the same cylinder that Elsa was trapped in. I could only move my eyes, but I noticed that Elsa had been let go from the Zero Point Energy field. She shakily stood up, no doubt fighting off the motion sickness that followed a Zero Point Energy trip.
A red-headed man with sideburns walked up to her, the same one that appeared on the screen in the previous room. He was heavily decorated with medals and wore a ceremonial sword at his belt. He knelt down to speak to Elsa, lifting her chin to see her bloodshot eyes. I could see his mouth move, but I heard no words. The military man turned away from Elsa and stood with his hands behind his back as she struggled to stand up behind him. In the centre of the room, steam poured from the cylinder and the top seemingly floated off towards the ceiling.
Once the steam cleared, a small white face was visible in confinement. The soft face betrayed a woman's features, with short jet black hair pointed up at the crown of her head. Her eyes were closed and she looked peacefully at rest, akin to a body in a casket.
Then, through the ringing in my ears, I heard Elsa scream.
"MOM!"
