I tapped my foot to the beat, ignoring everything going on. It wasn't until someone tapped my arm did I tune into what was going on.
"What?" I snapped, pausing my Imagine Dragons.
"You need to train." Kai told me.
I rolled my eyes, shoving the earbud back into my ear. "Later."
Kai was loosing patience. He yanked my earbud out, earning an "OW!" "Now, Emma." He growled.
"Fine, but can we do it with music?" I whined.
"...that would probably bug the others." Kai said.
I folded my arms. "I'm not doing it unless we can have music."
Kai glared at me. "Music with no words."
We glared at each other until I finally gave in. "Fine...we'll listen to Mythos..."
"Don't know who they are, but whatever." Kai led me to the training room, since Melissa and Beth were with Cole and Zane on the training course.
Punching bags hung from the ceiling, as well as other equipment scattered around the room.
"Let's see your punch." Kai motioned to a punching bag.
I sighed. "I can't fight."
"Don't care, I'll teach you. Now punch the bag."
I sighed again, then formed my hand into a fist and lightly hit the bag. It didn't give at all.
Kai raised an eyebrow at me. I shrugged, uncaring.
"Seriously? Punch it like this." Kai's fist flew out almost too fast for me to watch. The bag flew, hitting the ceiling. He caught it before it could come back and hit him in the face.
I felt slight awe, but no way was I going to show him.
"How much do you work out?" I asked.
"Just punch the bag like you mean it." Kai sighed.
I focused on the bag, figuring I'd do this once then leave. I imagined the drunkard that hit my mom, a fat ugly guy. My fist slammed forward, hitting the bag with a solid thunk.
"Better." Kai nodded.
I was so far gone I couldn't hear him. The anger bubbled up, threatening to burst over. Now I found an outlet, and it came undone. My hands slammed forward, punching again and again. My foot shot out and the punching bag went flying.
Kai watched silently, then pushed off the wall he was leaning against.
I brushed a sweaty red curl out of my eye, hand in my knees, panting.
"What happened to make you that angry?" He asked.
I turned away from him. "Nothing." I said flatly.
He decided to not to push it. "You've got a lot of power when you've got that anger, but try that bag over there." He motioned to one.
I walked over to it, feeling the density of it as he hung up the one I took down.
"Wow, you destroyed this one. It's unusable now." Kai said.
I turned to find the whole side caved in and torn.
"Start attacking that one." He said, slinging the bag over his shoulder.
I turned to the bag as he walked out, trying to get the anger back. I couldn't feel anything except numbness for mom's death, so I thought about something else that sucked for me.
My dad walking out. That sparked something.
When Kai came in, he saw my knuckles bleeding, the bag on the ground and me curled up into a ball.
Kai softly grinned. "That should be enough for now."
I stayed in a ball as he left, but looked up when he came back. He crouched in front of my and grabbed my hand, making me flinch and yank my hand away.
"Give me your hand." He said, holding his hand out.
I stared at the bandages in his other hand, then slowly stretched my arm out and put it in his hand. With surprising precision and speed, my hand was wrapped and he was waiting for my other. I cradled my hand to my chest as his fingers tickled my other hand. He lightly kissed my injury, then stood up. I stared at him in surprise as he ruffled my red hair.
"Nice job with those bags." He walked out, leaving me in shock.
I slowly touched the top of my head.
Mom, what's it like to be in love? Does it feel like this?
