Hey! Sorry It's been an ETERNITY since I've updated! But trust me I wanted to! Its just that I have THE WORST memory on the planet so I write down all of my login information a little book. I ended up loosing that book until I was cleaning my room yesterday. I found it in the back of my closet! I have no idea how it got there! Well when I finally found it I immediately got on and looked at everything that has happened. Some of the stories I was following were completed, people had messaged me, and I felt horrible. So I decided I would update as soon as possible! Here it goes!
'Today's the day!' Mai screamed in her head, 'Maybe I should have kept a few of those skirts...' She pondered. All she had to wear were old jeans and plain shorts.
"Well I guess Naru did say I needed to stop wearing skirts to investigations." She said, trying to give herself an excuse. She threw on a pair of beige shorts and a plain black tank top.
"this should be fine." Mai sighed, not exactly thrilled that she could dress nice for her first day back to SPR. It was fine dressing like this to work at the coffee shop, there was no one to impress and she had to wear a long apron anyways. But SPR was different. She had Na- everyone to impress, and she didn't have to wear a big brown apron over her clothes.
'I probably should though, considering how many times I've spilled tea on myself... and everyone else.' Mai joked with herself.
Deciding it was time to go, she grabbed her purse and hurried out the door. She was only five minutes late for work today, a new personal best! As she opened the door, Mai was pounced by three of the people she had missed so much.
"Monk, Ayako, Madoka!" She greeted loudly, with a huge smile across her face. John sat on the sidelines, waiting to say hello. Monk, Ayako and Madoka released her from their tight grip and smiled brightly.
"Hello Mai, Nice to see you again!" John said sweetly.
"Nice to see you too John!" Mai said through an ear splitting grin. Mai looked over at the couch and saw Naru looking over his case files, and Masako clinging to his arm with one hand, the other resting at her mouth. There she sat staring holes into Mai, but at the same time making it look sweet and innocent. Mai didn't mind much though. She still did love Naru, but he had turned her down. She considered the possibility that Naru actually did fall for Masako after all those blackmail dates. She tried to ignore the pang in her chest. She reminded herself that Naru had turned her down and probably always would no matter how hard she tried. She did find it a bit odd that he was so willingly letting her cling to him like that in the office though, even if they were dating.
She was brought back to reality when Naru promptly got up from the couch and walked to his office. He put his hand on the door knob and stopped, knowing Mai was watching him.
"Mai," He addressed her as if he was going to be friendly to her and say hello.
"Yes Naru?" Mai replied kindly.
"Tea." Naru demanded with a cold tone. And with that, he marched into his office.
Mai's jaw dropped for a moment, but then she stomped off to the kitchen and did as she was told.
"Knock knock!" Mai yelled through the thick oak door.
"Come." A deep nonchalant voice called back.
Mai gracefully opened the door while balancing the tray of tea on one hand and walked into the office. She sat the silver tray at the end of Naru's desk, waiting patiently for a thank you. Mai suddenly realized that this wasn't the Naru she use to know. This was the great Oliver Davis! Now that everyone knew, he was probably expecting the utmost respect.
"Yes Mai?" Naru questioned, although he had been through this a million times.
'Oh no, I'd better leave or he might fire me!' Mai thought to herself, "Oh nothing Na-Oliver." She said quickly as she bowed and practically ran out of the room. She had ran out of the room too fast to see Naru's unnaturally shocked face gaping at her.
'Oliver?' Naru thought, very confused. Although it was his real name, he didn't like it coming from Mai's mouth. He couldn't figure out why though. His thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
"Come!"He said sternly. It was Mai again.
"Um, sir, I forgot the cream."She shuffled over to the still untouched tea on his desk and poured some cream into his cup. She shuffled back to the door, but was stopped in her tracks.
"Mai." Naru said, slightly less condescending than usual. Mai turned around, still with her head hung slightly so her bangs covered the top half of her eyes.
Naru was going to ask her about the way she was acting, but he decided against it, "You put too much." Mai's eyes widened under her bangs
"I will got you a new one right away." She said quietly.
"No, go back to work." And with that Naru turned back to his computer.
"Yes sir." She again bowed and walked out, leaving Naru befuddled with the way she was acting. He told himself to forget about it but he knew himself well enough to know that wasn't going to happen.
Mai walked back to her desk and got back to working hard. Monk noticed this and confronted her.
"Hey Mai, whats up with you?" Monk asked.
"Sorry Monk, gotta keep working." Was all Mai said to him.
"Okay kiddo... you talk to me if anything is bothering you okay?"
"Kay." That was all she said to him. Monk felt like she wasn't paying attention to a single word he was saying. He wondered what was wrong with her. But then he just shrugged and let it go far a bit.
About thirty minutes later, Naru walked out of his office and into the kitchen, ignoring the stares from the others. A few moments later a call from the kitchen surprised them all, but mostly Mai.
"Arg, Mai!" An exasperated Naru called from the kitchen. Mai found herself jumping up from her desk and running to the kitchen.
"Naru?" She said looking at the now drenched man standing in front in front of her looking angry.
"Mai, make me tea. Apparently I cannot." Naru explained.
"Well, first of all, you're not supposed to put the tea cup on the burner," she saw the shattered porcelain cup on the floor with a pool of water, "Second of all, you're going to have to change shirts or you're going to be feeling sticky all day."
"I'm sure I can cope." Then he marched back into his office.
'I wonder why he was trying to make tea, I told him I would make him another cup... Oh my gosh! I called him Naru just a minute ago! I'm so fired! Fired!' A worried Mai started making the best tea she possibly could.
After she had finished preparing the tea and arranging it as beautifully as she could, she walked down to the door, her heart racing. 'Oh god, he's going to fire me! He's going to take my key and fire me!' Without thinking, she opened the door to see an almost shirtless Naru in the process of removing his top. She squealed, ran over to the desk to set the tea down then she turned around so she couldn't see Naru undressing.
"Mai, It's fine, I'm a man. Or have you forgotten?" He said slyly. She briefly turned around to bow and say, "No sir, sorry sir, I brought you your tea." Then she scurried out of the room.
'What's wrong with her? She wasn't even blushing!' A still astonished Naru wondered. He finished putting on a new shirt and got back to work. It seemed as though lately he had been very distracted by Mai's actions. He would have to figure things out later though, right now he had work to do.
There's the third chapter! FINALLY. If anyone is even still following this, thank you sooo much for waiting the million years it took to publish. I'm sorry its short too haha. Reviews are welcome!
