Kill & Collect
Chapter 13
Maura stood near one of the windows in her room, looking outside. It was pitch black now and the full moon was providing a dull light that spread over the expansion of trees in the woods. After dinner, Maura had left Jane and Paddy to discuss their plan of action to take down Hoyt. That was over an hour ago now. She had all the faith in the world that Jane would succeed but that didn't mean she was not worried. Hoyt was a smart and sneaky creature that seemed to know Jane very well. Even though she and the brunette had managed to evade his men, there had still been some close calls. Hoyt had been on their heels the entire time. If it had not been for the intervention of her father they'd probably be dead by now.
A strong set of arms suddenly wrapped around Maura's waist from behind. The blonde smiled softly and leaned back into the taller form.
"Hey," Jane's raspy voice said into the blonde's hair.
"Hey," Maura whispered back.
Jane slowly inhaled a breath and sighed contently. "Mm... God, you smell good. Just like the first night we met."
Maura lightly chuckled. "Thank you." They stood there a while longer with Jane gently swaying them side to side. "How did we get here, Jane?" Maura finally asked. "We've slept in a car hidden in the woods, been shot at, you actually got shot, survived two car chases..." The blonde shook her head. Just thinking about all they've been through in the past few days made her head spin. "We're on the run for our lives. Life is not supposed to be like this."
Jane held Maura a little tighter. "I know…" the brunette sincerely said. "We'll get through this Maura. We will."
Maura closed her eyes. She hoped the words Jane spoke rang true. She placed her hands over Jane's. "So what's the plan?" She asked.
"Remember Hoyt's guy that shot himself after the car crash?"
"Yes."
"Before he died he told me Hoyt was in a place where he and I had first met. That can only mean Boston."
"But where in Boston?"
"It's a long shot, but I'm thinking Hoyt maybe hold up in my old apartment complex. It's been abandoned for about a year because the owners lost it to the bank. Hell, he may even be that obsessed with me and be staying in my old apartment. Your dad is allowing me take a few of his men with me for backup."
"What if you don't find him?"
"I will. One way or another, but I have to try. My gut is telling me that's where we'll find him."
"Okay. When are we leaving?"
Maura felt Jane's body stiffen at the question. "Uh, actually-"
"Let me guess…" Maura turned around in Jane's arms and faced the brunette. "You don't want me to go."
Jane sincerely looked into Maura's eyes before slowly shaking her head. "I don't want to risk your safety, Maur. I can't."
Maura lowered her eyes and lightly pulled on the lapels of Jane's open black button up shirt. "I can't say I'm not disappointed, but I understand." She looked up and their eyes connected. "This is your fight and you have to do it your way."
Jane gave a silent nod.
"So when are you leaving?"
"Tomorrow at 1900 hours. Going in at night would have its advantages."
Maura ducked her eyes once more and nodded. "Yes, I suppose it would."
Jane looked at the blonde softly and felt her heart expand with bursting emotions for Maura. She placed her fingertips under the blonde's chin and raised her head. Their eyes locked.
"I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you." Jane softly spoke.
Maura stared into gentle brown eyes and softly smiled. "I feel the same about you."
Jane pulled Maura to her and held the blonde in a warm embrace. Maura returned the hug and closed her eyes. They stood there a long while, neither wanting to let go. As she held Maura, Jane knew this was where she always wanted to be. This is where she needed to be. Being in Maura's arms was her safe place. "Maur?" Jane whispered against the blonde's ear.
"Yes, Jane."
The brunette nuzzled her face against Maura's before she whispered, "I love you."
Jane heard the blonde gasp but no words were said. She only felt Maura hold on to her tighter. The brunette took that as a good sign but her heart was still hammering with anxiety. She had never said those words to anyone other than her close family members.
After a moment, Maura leaned back and looked at Jane but still held the brunette close. Their faces were inches apart. Jane felt her heart skip when she saw tears forming in Maura's eyes.
"You love me?" Maura whispered with disbelief.
Jane lightly smiled and swallowed the nervous lump in her throat. "I do. More than I ever thought was possible."
The blonde reached up with both hands, gently cupped the sides of Jane's face and smiled softly. As she stroked her thumbs against Jane's cheeks her expression grew somber. "Then you have to promise me, Jane. Promise you'll come back to me."
Jane stared into the watery hazel eyes before her and saw adoration, love, but what struck her the most was the fear and the worry. Maura was scared Jane would never come back to her. The brunette gave a sad smile, knowing she would do everything in her power to come back. "I promise," Jane whispered.
Tears escaped Maura's eyes and she pulled Jane down into to a deep kiss. Jane eagerly kissed her back and wrapped her arms around the blonde's waist. Maura's hands moved up into Jane's hair as the brunette's tongue slipped into her mouth. Maur's back bumped against the nearest wall as they continued to kiss. The blonde aggressively pushed Jane's button-down shirt off her shoulders and began to shove the brunette towards the bed. Jane didn't fight it, allowing Maura to lead this dance.
The blonde pulled at the hem of Jane's tank top and the brunette helped by breaking the kiss and quickly lifting the tank up and over her head. Soon after the top was discarded, Maura was upon her lips again. Jane grabbed onto Maura's ass and lifted the blonde into her arms. Maura wrapped her legs around Jane's waist as the brunette walked backwards towards the bed. They kissed each other with ferocious passion as they fell back onto the mattress of the queen-sized bed.
Maura pinned Jane's hands above her head and proceeded to ravish the brunette's neck in desperate kisses. The brunette shivered when she felt Maura's soothing tongue run over the very prominent hickey Maura had given her the previous night. The blonde lifted her head and grinned at a panting Jane. She leaned in and kissed Jane's lips once more before moving down the brunette's body. Maura forcefully pushed the brunette's bra up, exposing Jane's breasts. Dark nipples stood to attention, practically begging Maura to take them into her mouth. Jane growled when the blonde bit on her left nipple and moaned when she sucked the right.
Maura then unbuckled Jane's pants and pulled them down, along with her boy shorts. The blonde kept her hazel eyes on Jane's the entire time as she knelt down and parted Jane's knees. The brunette's breath became ragged with anticipation as Maura leaned her face closer to her aching pussy. She watched as Maura took her into her mouth. Soon her eyes rolled back at the instant pleasure the blonde's tongue gave to her. "Ah… fuck, Maura…" Jane moaned.
Maura hummed her response as she continued to feast on Jane. She pushed Jane's legs further apart and buried her face even more. Jane gripped onto Maura's hair and felt herself coming apart as the blonde's aggressive tongue worked harder. She pumped her hips faster and within seconds a a powerful orgasm rippled through Jane's body. The blonde road out the pleasurable waves with Jane until the brunette's body finally calmed down. She placed soft kisses on the inside of Jane's thighs and then climbed up her body. Jane grabbed the back of Maura's head and pulled the blonde down into a passionate kiss. Jane moaned as she tasted herself on the blonde's lips and tongue. Maura broke the kiss and looked down at the brunette.
"Wow…" Jane breathed. "I liked that."
Maura giggled devilishly. "Good… Oh!"
In a flash Jane flipped Maura onto her back and climbed on top of her. "You're wearing too many clothes, Ms. Isles," Jane purred.
"I'm sure you can fix that, Ms. Rizzoli."
In record time, Jane stripped Maura of all her clothing and the blonde was now lying stark naked on the bed before her. Jane leaned over Maura and eyes ran over the length of the blonde's lithe body. She wanted to take her time. She wanted to remember every freckle, every scar, and every curve. Maura was a remarkably beautiful creature. The blonde closed her eyes in blissful content as Jane placed feather-like kisses on every inch of her body from head to toe. When she was done to climbed back up Maura's body and placed her lips against the blonde's ear. Her left hand gently cupped Maura's mound eliciting a soft moan from the blonde.
"Jane…" whimpered.
"I love you so much…" Jane whispered before plunging two fingers into the blonde's wet opening.
Maura let out a loud gasped and her hands gripped onto to the back of Jane's shoulders. "Oh…"
Jane buried her face into Maura's neck as she began to pump in and out of the blonde. The continuous moans and whimpers and that fell from Maura's lips and tickled her ear drove the brunette crazy. She loved how Maura opened herself further, willingly taking her fingers in and out, coating them with warmth.
"Jane… oh, Jane… that feels so good…" the blonde moaned.
"Yeah… I love being inside of you…" Jane panted against the blonde's heated neck. She began to move faster and deeper inside of the blonde and her breathing became heavier. Maura's arms were hooked around Jane's body and her fingernails dug into the brunette's strong back.
Maura could feel the love, care and protectiveness running through her body as Jane moved steadily inside of her. It was indescribably overwhelming. Jane slowly began to pick up her pace, rocking them back and forth on the mattress. Maura began to feel the familiar warmth build deep inside her core and knew she was close. Jane felt this as well and plunged a third finger inside Maura. A few good thrusts and the blonde suddenly threw her head back, tightening around Jane's fingers. "Ohh! Ahhh!"
"Shhh…" Jane cooed. "That's it baby… yeah…" the brunette whispered slowly riding out Maura's orgasm with her.
The blonde's heart was racing and chest heaving as she slowly recovered. Jane was feathering her sweaty neck and face with kisses, silently praising herself for making Maura so exhausted. When the blonde finally found the strength, she wrapped her arms around Jane and hugged her close.
When Maura opened her eyes, daylight was streaming through the windows. The first thing she noticed was that her body felt rested and relaxed. She had not slept so well in days. The second thing she noticed was a snoozing brunette spooning her with a protective arm wrapped around her waist. Maura smiled and snuggled back into Jane. She loved this feeling of safety and care. A smile spread across her face when a soft kiss was placed on the back of her neck. "Good morning," the blonde said.
"Mm, morning…" Jane's raspy voice replied.
Maura turned around in Jane's arms and draped her thigh over the brunette's hip. They smiled softly at each other as their noses brushed.
"Hi beautiful," Jane whispered.
"Hi." She replied, before kissing the brunette soundly on the lips.
"I like this… waking up with you in my arms."
Maura smiled even more. "I like it too. "
Jane reached under the covers and caressed the thigh Maura had draped over her hip. "You like it huh?"
The blonde nodded.
A look of mischief was in Jane's eyes as she slowly moved her hand from the outside of Maura's thigh to between her legs. They were both still naked from last night's activities, so Jane had easy access. Maura gasped and closed her eyes when Jane's fingers gently rubbed over her clit.
"Do you like this?" Jane husked.
"Ugh… yeees…" Maura whispered.
KNOCK. KNOCK. "Maura?" A voice called from outside the bedroom door.
Both Jane and Maura froze and their eyes widened.
"I know Jane's in there so there's no need to scramble in a panic," Suzette announced.
The two of them exchanged embarrassed glances before covering themselves under the sheets. "Come in," Maura called.
The door opened and in walked Suzette without any hesitation in her step. "Good morning girls," the older woman grinned, looking at each of them. She noticed their disheveled hair and state of undress. "Sleep well?" She asked suggestively.
Both women blush furiously and could barely look Suzette in the eyes. The older woman let out a hardy laugh and shook her head. "I'm just fucking with you both. Don't be shy we're all adults. Anyway… Maura, Paddy sent me up to get you. He wants to chat."
"About what?" Maura asked.
The older woman shrugged. "He didn't say."
"Okay. Tell him I'll be down in twenty minutes."
Suzette nodded. "I'll let him know." She soon left the room and closed the door behind her.
"That's a nice way to start the morning," Jane muttered.
Maura winced with a hint of worry in her eyes. "You think she'll be discreet about…" the blonde gestured at the bed.
"I think so," Jane smirked. "She doesn't seem like the tattle tale type."
Suzette led Maura to her father's office on the first floor. "Go on in, honey," the older woman said, before walking away. Maura opened the door and Paddy was sitting at his desk looking over some paperwork.
He looked up and stood from his desk when she entered. "Maura."
"Father."
"Have a seat." The blonde was hesitant and Paddy caught on to that. "Please," he politely spoke.
Maura moved further into the room and sat in the chair across from her father's desk. "What did you want?" she asked.
"Jane filled me in last night on Hoyt and how she rebelled against him to prevent your assassination."
Maura gave a slight nod and waited for Paddy to continue.
"I'm grateful to Jane for saving you, but I know when a story has holes. She didn't exactly tell me why she did it. Why would a cold hard killer like her suddenly decide she wants her target to live… I don't understand that."
"Did you ask her?"
"Yes. All she said was… she thought you were special."
Maura dropped her eyes and tried to hold back her smile. "And you don't believe her?"
"I don't like half-assed answers. So I'm asking you."
"Not that it's any of your business, father but… she is protecting me because she felt it was her fault that Hoyt is after me."
"Why would it be her fault?"
Maura sighed. "Hoyt is obsessed with her. He's a sick man and doesn't like anyone to be… intimate with her."
The statement made Paddy's eyebrow quirk with interest. "So you and Jane…"
"I love her."
Paddy was struck silent and looked at his daughter with an unreadable expression. He folded his hands together in his lap and looked her straight in the eyes. "She feels the same?"
Maura nodded. "She does."
"Alright," Paddy replied. "I'll make sure to send her with my best men for the mission tonight. If you care about her, I care about her."
Maura was surprised by her father's reaction. "Uh… thank you. Was that all?"
"No." Their eyes locked and a softness passed over Paddy's eyes. "I wanted to know how you were."
"Don't you know already? Haven't your men been sending you pictures and updates of me?"
"I don't mean that. Pictures and updates only tell me you're alive and safe. I want to know how you've been."
Maura seemed taken aback by the question. Paddy wanted to know how she was... really?
"Before all this madness happened… were you happy?" He asked.
"I… yes, I was… somewhat happy."
"Somewhat?"
Maura let out a heavy sigh. "I was just living my life, Dad. I woke up, went to work, came home and did it all over again. I have nothing to worry about financially and I was settled. I was somewhat happy."
"What was missing?"
Maura broke the intense gaze her father had upon her and stood to her feet. "I don't really feel comfortable talking about this with you. Was there anything else you wanted?"
Paddy tried to hide the disappointment he felt as he shook his head. He knew not to expect a deep conversation with his daughter. She wasn't eleven years old anymore. "No. That's it," he replied.
Maura turned and stepped around the chair, heading towards the door.
"Jane makes you happy." Paddy suddenly said. Maura stopped with her hand on the door knob but doesn't turn her head. "She makes you happy." He stated rather than asked.
Maura took a breath before turning around and fully facing Paddy. "She does."
Jane and four other men were dropped off via helicopter in the darkness of night a mile away from their destination. When they finally made it, they headed into the back of Jane's old apartment building. It was dark and clearly abandoned. One of the men broke the lock on the door and they all headed inside with flashlights drawn. Jane directed them to the stairwell and they maneuvered through the building like a trained team, watching each other's backs. They reached the third floor and quietly made it to the door of Jane's old apartment. Jane stood next to the one who was beside the door and the other three were lined against the wall, ready to charge. The guy beside Jane did a count of three on his fingers before kicking the door down. Jane was the first to rush the apartment with her gun drawn. The men followed close behind and quickly spread throughout the vacant apartment. Jane's eyes frantically searched the nearly barren living room area. She lowered her gun as her mind immediately flashed back to late nights slouching around on the couch with a late night beer, her mother barging into her space picking up trash that she had scattered around the room, and her sitting with her two brothers watching a Red Sox game jumping and shouting at the television screen.
"Clear!"
"Clear!"
"Clear!"
Three different voices shouted throughout the apartment.
Jane's mind soon refocused back to reality and all she saw now was a desk with a laptop computer and a lamp on top. When she approached the desk, she noticed there papers pinned on the wall but she couldn't make out what they were. She clicked on the lamp and her eyes widened at the sight on the wall. There were endless photos of Jane pinned on the wall. Some she realized were taken years ago, some before she had even knew Hoyt.
Jane jogging.
Jane sleeping.
Jane in her military fatigues.
Jane dancing with Maura in the bar.
Jane and Maura kissing in the bar.
Jane and Maura heading to the hotel.
She felt her stomach turn at the sight of these photos. Hoyt was truly sick. He was clearly obsessed and had been watching her every move for years.
All four of the men stayed near the kitchen area as they watched the brunette examine the strange shrine.
"Hoyt's definitely been stationed here for a while," she commented.
Jane's eyes shifted to the open laptop on the desk. A note was taped to the screen that said, 'Hit Spacebar.' Curious, the brunette removed the note and hit the key as instructed. The screen powered on and there he was. Hoyt staring at her through the computer screen. Her heart clenched in disgust at the sight of the man.
"Hi Jane," he grinned maliciously. "You've found me. I knew you would. You're good. That's why you were always my prized possession… my greatest work." He closed his eyes and seemed to be recalling a memory. A sly smile spread over his lips. "I remember when I first laid eyes on you… you were so… beautifully self-destructive. A lost soul... and I saved you. My sweet, sweet, Jane." Jane felt shameful as she heard the truthful words that Hoyt spoke and felt embarrassed that Paddy's men were witnessing it as well. Hoyt opened his eyes and the shift in the man's expression made her skin crawl. "But you've betrayed me," he growled. "You fled from me to be with some BITCH!" He rakes a hand through his greasy gray hair and looks at the lens. "You'll pay for what you've done… oh, you'll pay." He lets out a sickening chuckle before the screen suddenly goes black. Within seconds the number 30 popped up in red bold text. Then the numbers began to countdown to 29, 28, 27…
"Oh, fuck me," Jane muttered, realizing this was a trap. "Clear out! Clear out now! We gotta get out of here!"
The men don't need to be told twice and are out the door in no time. They all run down the hall and burst into the stairwell. They hustle down one flight of stairs and proceed to the 2nd floor. As the first of Paddy's men round the corner of the stair landing another man holding a shotgun blocked his path. "Hold it right there!" He shouted. Two other armed men are behind him.
Jane looked passed the two men in front of her and notice the strangers now blocking their exit. Suddenly the door a flight above them burst open and there were three more strange men pointing guns at them. Jane and Paddy's men were trapped. The brunette's heart sank. These were Hoyt's men.
"Back up the stairs! Everybody!" The man commanded.
Hoyt's men had them line up in the hallway and get down on their knees. They were stripped of all their weapons and each of their hands were zip-tied behind their backs. The sound of the stairwell door opening got their attention and they all looked up. Jane's heart stopped when she saw who came through it. Hoyt.
A disgusting smile spread across the man's face as he slowly approached Jane and Paddy's crew.
