This morning was sunny with a gentle breeze. But it was by no means silent. Many had come from near and far to visit the Ito shrine. Apparently word had traveled fast. Yue was one of the most sought after daiyoukai female in the last 400 years. Many tried to woo her and all had failed. So when Yue had freely offered her hand to a unknown deity it had become the scandal of the century. The most annoying thing to Kagome was the challengers that had lined up at her door.
Kagome had a pounding headache from the sheer amount of activity going on at the shrine. Many had demanded her presence. Others practically shouted threats, while others whispered prayers. Although she wondered if she should truly answer the challenges. It was the daiyoukai way. To ignore a challenge was to be cowardly and Kagome was no coward. But Kagome also enjoyed the comforts that the mask of being a kitsune daiyoukai provided. It would make no sense to blow her cover. The young Kami had felt Touga's presence the moment he stepped foot on the shrine grounds. So she was not suprised to find him tapping on her shoulder with a wicked grin. "Ah Ito-Donnoo. Don't look so glum. We should be celebrating!" Kagome rolled her Colbat eye's and but couldn't help the smile. "You look... pleased." The younger if the two was a bit skeptical of Touga's mood. The old dog simply sat down a oversized wine bottle and made himself comfortable. "My great elder sister is getting mated, why not be pleased?" Moments later servants entered the room with delicious smelling foods and treats. Before Kagome knew it the table was over crowded and Touga handed her a small cup that was filled to the brim with red sake.
"When you enter this family it's traditional for the head of the family and the one coming into it to share a special drink. This sake is blessed with the blood of the Great Mother. So be proud little one. The last one's to drink from this was my Great sire and my Honorable mother." Kagome lifted the cup delicately. It smelled strongly of fresh blood and pomegranates. Oddly enough it made Kagome's mouth water. But Rin came to mind. Did her and Inukimi go through this cermony? If so why did he have her mated to a daiyoukai? "What about adopting someone into your line? Would this ceremony be necessary?" Touga paused for a moment in thought. But his golden gaze was a bit somber. "It is not wise to give this to just anyone. The Great Mothers blood is poisonous to someone who is not suitable. That is why many avoid this practice by mating distant relatives. While it is possible to mate outsiders it could potentially make allies into enemies as well. If a mating is arranged and the outsider coming in dies, it could start a war."That had made sense to the little Kami. Sesshoumaru would never risk Rin's life, even if it meant for them to be truly family.
Kagome tilted her head curiously when a thought occurred to her. "It's strange that you guys are born youkai. I ascended to a earth bound Kami. I would think the same would be for yokai." The demon lord's popped something sweet into his mouth while deciding the easiest way to esplain. "Long ago the Great Mother birthed 12 pups. These were the first Inuyokai to be birthed. The Great Mother happened to be heavy with pups when she was allowed to ascend into inuyoukai. We happen to share blood with one of the Original 12 that is why we are concidering to be of noble descent." Inutaicho spoke in a monotone as if he found the whole tale to be uninteresting. However Kagome had a feeling it had something to do with a bitterness he had towards nobility.
Trying to cut the tension Kagome smiled widely. "How do you know I will be surviving this little toast?" Touga's mood seemed to have lightened as they linked arms, their cups centimeters from their lips. "We'll just have to see now, won't we?" There was that cocky grin again. It reminded Kagome so much of Inuyasha it burned. Unwilling to think about him she pushed aside any caution she had felt about the situation drank from the cup until it was empty. Touga followed her lead.
The instant she had finished her cup full, her throat burned like she had swallowed hot needles. Then it felt like there was something moving beneath her skin. It started from her finger tips until it gained confidence and raced around her entire body. It was gross and felt so very foreign. If that wasn't enough her vision blurred and her ears rang noisily. Kagome just felt like her body was invaded and she didn't know how to react to such a feeling. Kagome felt so very helpless. It felt like the longest moment of Kagome's life. Everything was simply too much and she was unable to deal with it. But when the feeling faded it seemed like mere seconds had past. Touga had just unlinked their arms and set his cup down. "It was smoother then I expected. How was it?" The Kami toyed with the rim of the cup extremely dazed. It took her a long moment to regain her composure. She felt extremely sweaty and anxiety racked her form. "Kagome?" The demon lord found the little god looking extremely unwell. Although there was no scent other then the one of kitsune. It did well to fool many but Touga knew there was more to Kagome then her kitsune disguise. With furrowed brows and a raspy voice Kagome spoke. "Honestly it felt like something was crawling around beneath my flesh. It seemed pretty frantic, like it was confused. Then I thought my ears were going to burst from the loud ringing. But the least worrisome thing was the blurred vision."
The dog laughed loudly at her answer. He rested his chin on the palm of his hand and grinned. "A very vivid image you paint. Most would give simple answers." Cobalt eye's glared half halfheartedly. Kagome poured something sweet smelling into her cup. "I would very much like for you to understand how terrible that was." The demon lord nodded in understanding as he reached for what looked like smoked meat. "I find it odd that you partake in so much in out food considering your origins."
The miko drank slowly from her cup. She let the sweet milk like liquid coat her throat. "I have learned that you do what you must. The first time I had done so was when I was snowed in on a very isolated mountain. I hadn't eaten or had anything to drink for days. The only living thing for miles was the demon I was hunting. But I had underestimated the weather.. I had recalled that my demon slayer friend talking about eating demon flesh. Apparently it is tradition to eat the flesh after you make your first kill. However most do not care for it. Determined to survive... I killed the demon, relieved it of his meat, pelt, fangs, and bones." The Kami had still to this day felt oddly about her actions. Was it wrong of her? Demons killed humans regularly and not always for food. But humans were not free of fault either. Many prayed on weak demons for fun. Kagome poured herself more of the sweet liquid goodness and drank it greedily. Watching the Miko's grim expression Touga had realized how truly young the girl was."That guilt you feel is unnecessary. Youkai do not derive any value from eating human beings. You are simply tasty. It's the youki that we receive value from. The flesh is merely packaging. We do not need it however it is enjoyable." Kagome clicked her tongue and fell back onto the floor. "I get it." The kami huffed loudly.
Touga poured himself some sake and drank it lazily. "What will you do about Yue's admirers?" A over exaggerated groan escaped the little Kami. "It can't just whoop them! Being a Kami is complicated. Can I resign?" Inutaicho laughed at her expense. There was a long silence before Kagome spoke again. "... You know what? Fuck them!" Kagome swelled with anger. Why did strangers have a say in what she did? It was stupid. It was her and Yue's life. If they wanted to make a bunch of inuyoukai - Kami babies then damn everyone else. Touga found the Kami's sudden out burst odd. But after he looked closer he realized Kagome's face had a flushed color and her eyes looked glazed over. The Kami was drunk. His mother's favored drink had been very sweet and extremely strong. Kagome had managed drink more then most had dared. "...Oh.. This could complicate things."
