Chapter One
Written by: Marik's girl

Just as school ended, Anzu put her books in her book bag and then walked over to Marik's desk and saw him putting his things together. "Hi Marik." She said with a smile on her face. He paused at what he was doing to look at her. "Er… hi." he said a bit uneasy. "Where did you want to meet at? For the assignment I mean..." Anzu asked; he shrugged his shoulders. "My house I guess… if that is alright with you?" Anzu smiled as she nodded. "That is fine, tomorrow at seven?" He could only nod. "That fine. Let me write down directions to my place." Marik said as he took a piece of paper as he wrote down his address and the directions to his house. "Here." he said as he handed her the piece of paper. "Thanks. See you tomorrow!" She said as she waved good bye and then left then classroom to find her friends.

Marik stared at her back as he watch her leave the classroom. 'How can she be happy about coming over my house?' he thought with a gloomy look on his face. He sighed as he put his stuff in his backpack and draped it over his right shoulder, then walk out of the classroom and headed home.

"What! You got paired up with Marik!" Okay… her ears were ringing now. Anzu eyes were closed. An irritated look on her face. She open her beautiful cerulean colored eyes as she glared at the blonde, a vain popping out the side of her head. "Stop being childish Jonouchi."

"What!?"

Anzu let out an irritated sigh. "You heard me. Why can't you just forgive and forget?" She asked with a rise eyebrow. "Because he almost killed us all! How could you forgive someone who did that to you?" Anzu shook her head. "Marik was also sorry for what he did to us, Jonouchi. I saw the regret in his eyes what he had done! I believe in second chances and that is why I forgave him. Everyone else forgave him too! Why can't you?" She asked with narrowed eyes. Jonouchi looked away from her. "I… I just can't.."

"Argh! Stupid idiot!"

"Hay!"

The rest of the gang sweat dropped at the two fighting like a married couple. "Well it could of been worse - she could of be paired with Kaiba!" Stated Yugi with a smile. Anzu and Jonouchi stop their arguing and Anzu blushed in embarrassment. A year ago, Anzu and Kaiba had been assign to do a school project… she got her perfect A +… it was just working with Kaiba was like living in hell, she wanted to shot herself! "Anyways-" Anzu began, trying to get rid of the thought of Kaiba and school projects. "I think this will be good for Marik! He hasn't talked much since he been here for the last six months." Anzu stated with a smile. "Yeah, he seems really… depressed. See if you can get him to open up a bit Anzu." Said Yugi. "That's what I hope to do." replied Anzu.

"Well if he tries somethin', I'm gonna get him!" Jonouchi said as he made a fist; while the other teenage boys sweat dropped. Anzu just stared at him with half closed eyes, the irritated look back on her face.

"Yugi, remind me to call the idiot hotline." Anzu said with a sarcastic tone of voice as she stomped off. "Hay!" Jonouchi cried out in embarrassment, while the rest of the teenage boys just sweat dropped. "I'm just tryin' to look after ya'." Anzu stopped and looked back at the blonde. "Jonouchi, I'm glad that you are… but I'm a big girl, and Marik isn't going to hurt me. That I'm sure of - so don't worry so much. See you guys tomorrow." Anzu said with a smile as she waved goodbye. The guys watched as she left; Yugi looked over at Jonouchi and saw him mutter some curse words. He let out a sigh. He was acting like an over protective big brother then anything else, but it did seem kind of odd that he just couldn't forgive Marik… 'Well I won't think too much into it right now.' thought Yugi.

"You've been paired up with Anzu for a school assignment?" Isis asked as she blinked at her little brother. Marik nodded. "Yes… she is coming here, tomorrow at seven." he replied. "Well that's good." she said with a smile. "I haven't seen Anzu in such a long time, it will be good to see her!" His sister said as she put her hands together, thinking what she should put together for tomorrow for their guest. "I guess." Was Marik's reply as he sat down on their living room couch, his placed his arms on his legs, his head bowed; violet eyes staring at the floor. She looked at her brother with sad blue eyes. She walked over to him and sat down next to him and place her hand on his back. He stiffen at first but soon relaxed. "Marik… you need to stop punishing yourself of what you did; what is done was done… it is over now." She said softly

Marik looked up at his sister, pain clearly in his violet eyes. "How can you say that Isis? For me it's never over! I almost kill them! I continue to have nightmares about the events over and over again - It's killing me!" He said as he began to shake. "You ask for forgiveness and they gave it to you, they don't hate you brother." she said as she rubbed his back. "I know… but I can't help feeling awful of what I did." he said feeling dejected. "Try not to worry too much about it right now… you have that school assignment to worry about!" she said with a grin. Marik just blinked and looked at his sister oddly. "This will be a good time to get to know Anzu better." Isis said with a smile on her face.

"Meaning what?"

"She's a nice girl, the two of you could be good friends. You need someone beside me and Rishid to talk too."

"..." he sigh. "Fine, I'll try." She smiled. "I'm glad to hear it! I'm going to start making dinner, okay." Isis said; Marik nodded, Isis then stood and went towards the kitchen to start dinner. Marik sat back on the couch. 'Maybe Isis is right.' he thought as he closed his eyes. 'Maybe all I need right now is a friend that I can talk to and be with...'

{The Next Day – 6:53 PM}

Anzu ran down the street. Thank god she was wearing flats! She was close to being late! She stopped to catch her breath; after a bit, she took out the piece of paper that Marik gave her the other day. "Hmmmm… his house should be here somewhere..." she said to herself as she looked at the different numbers on each house. "Ah! Here it is!" She said with a smile. She folded the paper and put it away and walked up to the door and knock. The door open and an Egyptian man with black ponytail and green eyes open the door. "Good evening, Rishid." Anzu said with a slight bow. He nodded. "Good evening, miss Mazaki. Please come in." He said. She nodded. "Thank you." Anzu said and came inside, she slipped off her shoes near the inside of the front door and placed them near by.

"Ah! Anzu, you're a bit early."

Anzu looked up and saw Marik's sister. "Hello Isis." Anzu said with a smile. Isis walked over to Anzu and hugged her. "It is good to see you." Isis said with a smile. "You as well." Anzu replied as she hugged the woman back. Rishid, please go get Marik and tell him Anzu is here. The man nodded and disappeared up stairs to get his brother. Isis parted from their hug. "I am glad that this school assignment came to be." Anzu blink at her words. "You are?" Anzu said, puzzled. "My brother has been very depressed… he needs someone to talk to that is not family. He needs a friend Anzu. Will you be willing to be that friend?"

"Of course I will, you don't even need to ask." Anzu said with a smile. "That is why I like you Anzu, you have a kind soul. Willing to help those in need." Isis said with a smile. Anzu blush with embarrassment. "I guess so… I just hate seeing people so sad like that. I really want to help Marik. Besides friends help friends, right?" Anzu said with a bright smile. The sixteen year old then notice someone coming down the stairs; it was Marik. He was wearing a white tank top, light brown cargo pants and white socks. He was also wear his normal Egyptian jewelry, golden earrings attached to his ears, a golden choker, golden arm bands on his upper arms and golden wrist bands. His light blonde hair going over bronze shoulders and kind yet cold looking violet eyes looking at her.

"Hi Marik!" Anzu said with a smile.

Marik stopped at the bottom of the stairs as he looked at Anzu. She looked a bit different… her hair was the same of course, that same short brown hair that framed her face, pretty cerulean colored eyes, fair skin… it was her clothes that looked different. A purple u-cut tee-shirt with the sleeves stopping at her elbows, blue jean shorts and white ankle socks on her feet. She looked girlie and cute. But he wasn't going to tell her that. He snapped out of his daze and headed towards her. "Hi." he relied. "Why don't the two you sit down at the table and get started, while me and Rishid go to the store?" said Isis. The elder brother just blinked and then all of a sudden Isis grabbed Rishid and dragged him out the door like it was nothing, leaving the two teenagers alone. Marik stared after them with a what-the-hell face. 'What is my sister up too?' he thought irritated. As far as he knew, they didn't need to go to the store for anything…

"I guess we should start..." Anzu said as she walk over to the table and sat down in one of the chairs. Marik only sighed as he followed her and did the same. "So, do you have any idea of a topic we should choose?" She asked. He stared at her for a moment; he would of thought she would just pick a topic and then they would research it, not ask him what kind of topic he wanted to do. "I don't know.."

"Well I'm sure we can think of something." She said with a smile.

{About Twenty Minutes Later}

Anzu banged her head on the table. She wanted to pull her hair out! For the last twenty minutes nether of them were able to think of anything for a project! It was for history, so they needed to pick a topic and then research it as far back as they could. Anzu was a straight A + student, she wanted both her and Marik to have a good grade on this! "What about Duel Monsters?" she looked up from banging her head, a red mark on her forehead. "Duel Monsters? But isn't it only a card game?" she asked puzzled. "It's more then that. It is dated down to times of the Pharaoh's. They have history Anzu. It would be a good topic for history class." said Marik; Anzu sat back in her chair, a thoughtful look in her eyes. "Now that I think about it, when Yami would play Duel Monster against someone it was as if it was more then just a game..."

"It is..." he said softly.

"Well, I'm all for it!" she said with a grin. "This way I get to know about some history about Duel Monsters." She said with a smile. "You like history?" he question. "Yeah, one of my favorite subjects actually." she said a small smile. "So you going to teach me or what?" she asked with a rise eyebrow. He raise an eyebrow at her and then he just shook his head. "Sure." unknown to him a small smile formed on his lips.

{An Hour Later}

Anzu looked up at the clock on the wall. 'Eight twenty-three… it's almost eight-thirty.' "We should stop, It's almost eight-thirty and I need to be home before nine." said Anzu. "Do you want me to take you home? It is dark outside." Anzu blinked at his request and then smiled. "Yes, I would like that. Just let me get my things together." he nodded as he stood up to grab his keys to his motorcycle. She put her things away in backpack and slipped it on. "Marik?" Anzu suddenly spoke up. "Hmm?"

"Why haven't Isis and Rishid come back from the store?" she asked with worry in her voice. "Knowing my sister, she is probably dragging my brother all over town. Not just the store." he said like it was most normal thing in the world. She sweat dropped. "I wouldn't worry, people are to afraid to go near my brother because of his height and the tattoo on his face."

Anzu made an "Oh!"sound. Anzu then shook her head and walked towards the door, Marik following right behind her. She slipped on her blue flats, while he put on his black shoes; they walked out the door and he locked it. He then went and grabbed his motorcycle from the back of the house. He handed her a helmet to put on, while he put his own on. She held the helmet in her hands, staring at it. "What's wrong? Never been on a motorcycle before?" He asked as he looked at her. "Never." She whispered. Clearly lost at what to do. "Don't worry, you won't fall off. I'll make of sure of it." He assured her. She nodded and put the helmet on. He got on the motorcycle and she got on behind him. "Put your arms around me." she did as she was told and put her arms around his middle, her front leaning against his back. He then sped off.
