The morning light streamed through the open curtains of the queen's bedroom and graciously shined down on the two royal sisters sprawled in the bed. Well, at least one of them was sprawled. The other sister was as poised as ever in her sleep. However, things played out a little differently.
Anna woke up first. She opened her eyes and saw Elsa peacefully sleeping in front of her. She lifted her sister's bangs out of her face with as much care and caution she could muster while trying to wake her. Anna was successful to brush the platinum blonde's bangs out of the way and admired her sister's beautiful face. She wondered how Elsa could just sleep so calmly and without moving so in her sleep like she did. The strawberry blonde princess never knew how her sister did it, but she thought it was unfair how her hair was practically a lion's mane when she woke up in the mornings while Elsa's was a waterfall gracefully cascading down into a pool. Anna was amazed by how well kept Elsa's hair was and felt compelled to mess with it just to see how her sister would like with a lion's mane as well. Anna reached up and was about to ruffle her sister's hair, but something stopped her from following through with her plan: guilt. Why would Anna feel guilty for messing up her sister's hair? It's not like she wouldn't be able to fix it and make it look incredibly beautiful as always. She was entitled to messing around with her sister in different forms and this was one of those entitlements and yet Anna felt that she could not do that to Elsa. She just couldn't.
Rather, Anna placed her hovering hand on Elsa's head and gently stroked it. She smiled. She liked how Elsa's hair felt under her hand. It was so soft and silky. Anna raked her fingers through Elsa's hair and allowed the tresses to effortlessly fall through her fingers. It was like touching softened butter. Anna wished she had her sister's hair. Her hair didn't bother her and she like it enough, but she really admired Elsa's hair. It was one of the many small things why Anna admired her sister for who she is. She admired her sister for many reasons but just to name a few reasons, Anna admired Elsa for ruling a kingdom singlehandedly at a young age, for her inner and outer beauty, for her dedication and passion for all that she did, and for her patience. Anna could make an exhausted list of why she admired her older sister in her mind, but she decided against it and simply wanted to savor the feeling of her sister's hair falling through her hand.
Elsa's breathing was calm and even as Anna felt around the wave of platinum blonde hair. Anna's hand eventually found itself on her sister's face which was as equally soft and similar in color. Her pale skin was an excellent companion to her hair. Anna leaned in closer and saw the light freckles dance across Elsa's nose and cheeks. How is that her light freckles only accentuate her pale face even more without being noticeable themselves. It was a mystery to Anna and yet she loved that physical feature about her sister. A lopsided smile made its way to Anna's face. She was in a pleasant haze while she gently raked her fingers against Elsa's cheek when she had to suddenly pull away as Elsa's breathing changed. Anna pulled her hand away from her sister's face in surprise. She waited with bated breath as she looked for any sign of Elsa waking from her slumber. Moments later, Elsa's eyes fluttered open and she flashed her sister a sleepy smile.
"Hey."
"Hey."
Elsa reached over and began to stroke Anna's hair while also matting it down as she did so.
"Good morning, Anna."
"Good morning, Elsa."
"How did you sleep?"
"I slept just fine, but you should have known that already."
Elsa chuckled. "I was wanted to make sure. Besides, I don't know your exact feeling when you woke up. That's why I thought I'd ask."
"Well, thank you. How did you sleep?"
"I slept fine as well."
Elsa rested her hand on the back of Anna's head right as Anna reached out and tapped her nose.
"What was that for?"
"I felt like it, Elsa. Do you have a problem with that?"
"Well…No. It's just that….I wasn't expecting that sort of thing from you."
"Well now you know."
"But why did you do it?"
"I'm not allowed to be playful towards my own sister?"
"No. It's not that, Anna. I was just wondering."
"Why? Did you suspect I had other intentions?"
Elsa bit her lower lip. "Maybe."
Anna gasped in fake offense. "How dare you think I had other intentions, Elsa. I have nothing but love and respect for you."
Elsa rolled her eyes at Anna in amusement. "But that doesn't mean you can't also want to mess around with me. I saw that glint in your eyes as you reached out for my head."
Anna had used her best innocent voice. "Your head? I was reaching out for your face."
"Of course you were, Anna…."
"I was!"
"Then how come I could detect mischief in your eyes? You had something planned and you back out at the last second."
"No, I didn't."
"Admit it, Anna. You wanted to do something, but then you decided against it."
"Nope. I would never plot something against my very own sister that I look up to and love so much."
"Anna."
Anna finally decided to do what she wanted to do. She quickly reached up and messed up Elsa's hair. Before Elsa had a chance to react, Anna hopped out of bed and laughed.
"I finally got you!"
"Anna!"
Anna doubled-over laughing as Elsa flattened the wild hair-do her sister gave her. Elsa's face was flushed and her even temper was tempered with after she fixed her hair in a more presentable bed-head state. Afterwards, she lunged for her laughing sister to the ground. Anna barely had time to avoid Elsa as she was caught off guard and was tackled to the floor. Before she knew it, Anna's sides were under attack by Elsa mercilessly tickling her.
"Elsa! Stop that! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!" Soon Anna was heaving trying to catch her breath. She had to gain enough strength to beg her sister to give her a break.
"Elsa, please stop! I need to breath."
Elsa carried on with her attack. "Not until you admit defeat."
"Fine! I'm sorry I messed up your hair." Laughter. "I know now not to mess with your hair." Heave. "Now, please stop your tickle attack." Heave. "I can hardly breathe."
Elsa halted her attack on her little sister and got off of her. She stood up and offered a hand to the tired strawberry blonde princess. Once Anna recovered enough she took Elsa's hand and stood up with the aid of her sister's strength she lent to her. At once when the two sisters stood straight and were facing each other, Elsa placed her hands on her hips in an indignant manner.
"Why did you mess up my hair to begin with, Anna?"
"It's not fair!"
"What's not fair?"
"That when you wake up your hair isn't a wild mess like mine. My hair always looks like a ball of yarn that got tangled up in some bushes or a tree then lifted off with the wind and flattened out by a horse carriage! It's a flat out complete mess and your hair is like a waterfall of platinum blond strands. That's what's not fair. I just am wondering how you would look like with hair like mine in the morning. I thought that if you had a lion's mane like me then we would be even."
Elsa's expression softened and her hand went limp against her hip falling to her side.
"So, we'd be even? What do you mean, Anna?"
"Elsa, you are heir to the throne and I'm just the spare. You have authority over me not just because you're Queen of Arendelle and I'm Princess of Arendelle, but also because you're the older sister and I'm younger than you so I have head to your warnings if I know what's good for me. I just thought that if I at least made your hair less perfect in the morning after sleep that you would be a less than perfect image of grace and elegance and power and-"
Anna gasped as she felt warm arms wrap around body. "I thought I made it clear to you, Anna, that you're not just a spare to me and I doubt that's how our parents saw you as either."
"But the kingdom-"
"Please be quiet, Anna. Don't worry about what others think of you as a princess and as a second born child. The only opinions that should matter to you are those of yourself and from the people you value most who love you and will be impartial when they have to be."
"You mean like how your opinion should matter to me? Or like Kristoff? Or Olaf?"
"Exactly. Our opinions, aside from your own about yourself, should be the ones that matter the most to you and my opinion of you, dear sister, is that I think you're perfect in your own unique way. You're a treasure to have, Anna."
Elsa pulled away from Anna just enough to look at her straight in the face. "Do you have any idea how excited I was when Mama and Papa told me that I had a baby sister to love and play with?"
Anna simply shook her head.
"As soon as I could, I went straight for the nursery and approached your crib to see you for the first time. You were crying and I looked down at you at my tip toes and reached my hand down to you. For some reason, you sensed me reaching out to you and stopped crying. You looked up at me and saw that I was smiling at you. You smiled back, Anna, and I felt ecstatic. It was only when you reached up and held onto my hand that I knew I wanted to treasure every moment I had with you, my precious baby sister. Except now, you're no longer small. You're all grown up, Anna, and even though you don't need much taking care of now, I feel like I want to do everything and anything in my power to keep you safe and happy because during our estrangement I felt like a complete failure as your older sister not being able to be there for you when you wanted or needed me most. I couldn't because I lacked control over my powers. I just want to make it up to you, Anna."
Anna gasped again and this time her heart sank from her throat to her stomach. "Oh, Elsa…"
Elsa tucked a feral strand of strawberry blonde hair behind Anna's left ear. "So, don't worry about how you and I execute the same activities in different ways or how each of us looks or anything that has to do with titles and responsibilities. All, you need to know is that I see you as my equal, Anna."
Anna's voice was quiet and soft." Okay."
Elsa smiled.
"But, I have to confess that I had another reason why I messed up your hair."
Elsa raised an eyebrow at Anna.
"I also wanted to see a more silly side to you to add depth to my perception of my perfect older sister. I just had to see for myself what you looked like with wild hair."
"And?"
"It'll never be as crazy as mine, but at least it's not a calm waterfall of hair, but at least it looks a little ruffled. "
Elsa rolled her eyes. "Well, I'm glad you had your fun. Now, we have some unfinished business for the trade agreement. Let's get ready for the day."
"Okay!"
Anna turned to race out of Elsa's room and head to her own room, but she felt a firm yet gentle hand on her right arm.
"Anna, wait."
Anna quickly turned around to face her sister. "What, Elsa?"
Elsa pulled away from Anna and found her way to her vanity. She picked up the Elsa doll and returned to Anna outstretching her right arm. "Here. I don't you to forget about your doll."
Anna gave Elsa a watery smile before gladly accept her Elsa doll in her hands. "Thanks."
Elsa patted Anna's shoulder. "You're welcome. Now, hurry up and get dressed."
"Right! See you at breakfast, Elsa!"
Anna quickly turned around once more and practically darted out of Elsa's room. Elsa shook her head with a soft smile on her face and laugh hanging on the edge on her lips. She returned to her vanity and picked up her Anna doll. She stroked the doll with her right thumb while admiring what it represented for her. After being gently reminded of what had been, what was and what was to be, Elsa lovingly placed her Anna doll back on the vanity and commenced to get ready for the day.
Ten minutes before breakfast was to be served, Elsa and Anna arrived together in the dining hall and were greeted by the sight of Kirsten and Karen. Both pairs of sisters were shoulder-to-shoulder. Yet Elsa and Anna had one thing over Kirsten and Karen and that was a quicker recovery from a misunderstanding by proof of interlocked hands. Elsa and Anna stood five paces away from their guests.
"Good morning", Elsa and Anna chimed together.
Karen gave them a shy, friendly wave. "Good morning, Elsa and Anna."
"Good morning, Elsa and Anna. I didn't know you two underwent a transformation."
Both Elsa and Anna cocked their head to the right. "What transformation?"
"That you two have decided to act in tandem with each other as if you were identical twins."
Elsa and Anna glanced at each other before returning their gaze to Kirsten.
"What are you talking about?", Elsa started.
"We're not identical twins. We're three years apart.", Anna finished.
Karen playfully nudged Kirsten in the shoulder. "Now, they're finishing each other sentences. They must be twins."
"We are not."
Kirsten pointed at Elsa and Anna. "Then how do you explain your behavior?"
Elsa and Anna blinked. They didn't know what to say. After an odd while later, Elsa spoke for the both of them.
"We don't know. I suppose Anna and I are just so close that we think and act alike. Maybe it has to do with all that we have done to make for the lost time and that we are close enough to share a bed together."
"You mean you had a sleepover? Don't you two have bedrooms close to each other?"
"Yes and technically we didn't have a sleepover. It more like Anna came over and I shared my bed with her."
"May I ask why?"
"Anna and I used to share the same room when we were little until the one day when our parents decided to keep Anna safe from me by putting me in a separate room. Why do you ask? Haven't you and Karen done something similar to that?"
Kirsten and Karen looked at each other and then back at Elsa and Anna with guilt written across their faces.
"No, we haven't."
"I highly recommend that you two do that, Kirsten. It can wonders for sisters who need to repair their relationship. I think it would help strengthen the bond between sisters no matter if they are on good terms or if their relationship is in shambles. I think sharing a bed would you two like it helped us."
"Have done this before?"
"We have but as part as a little sleepover just recently."
"How recent may I ask?"
"The night before your family came for your visit."
After hearing such news, both Kirsten and Karen were shocked for various reasons. Karen had connected the dots and steadily walked over to Anna. The red-head Norwegian princess had wide eyes as she looked at the younger Danish princess before her. Karen began to outstretch her arms in an attempt to invite Anna in a hug.
"May I hug you as a way of apology?"
Anna was genuinely confused with Karen's action. With her free hand, Anna showed a halt sign indicating that Karen doesn't to approach her any further.
"No. That's all right, Karen. I already forgave you."
"Something really important occurred to me and I want to make it up to you with a hug of apology and possibly friendship. Please, give me a chance."
Anna was about to politely decline Karen's offer not getting why she had to beg her for forgiveness when she had already forgiven her, but she felt Elsa slip her hand out of her own and gave her an encouraging push toward Karen. She heard her sister whisper with approval "Go on."
Anna toggled over into Karen's awaiting arms and wrapped her own around her body. Karen followed suit and soon Anna found herself in a very awkward yet very pleasing embrace. Kirsten and Elsa watched on with pride swelling in their hearts happy to see their younger sisters getting closer to the other.
For the duration of the hug, Karen leaned in and whispered her apology to Anna stating that she understood her feeling of inferiority and disvalued once she understood that she and Elsa had shared an intimate moment as sister when they had a sleepover the night before. And even though she did not know the details, Karen could imagine what that sort of event would mean to Anna and thus she was sympathetic towards the ginger. Anna slowly understood why Karen wanted to embrace and nodded her head in confirmation in Karen's suspicions. Before they knew it, both princesses had pulled away and stood two paces apart staring at each other. Anna blinked once or twice before Karen spoke up.
"Are we okay?"
"No. We're better than okay, we're good."
"Oh, good. Could we possibly start over and become friends?"
Anna flashed Karen a coy smile "Maybe."
In the background, Elsa rolled her eyes and Kirsten suppressed a giggle at Anna's comment. However, Karen was not familiar with Anna's playful side.
"Maybe?" Karen sounded worried witch had set off warning bells in Anna's head. She had to absolve the situation before things got out of control.
"I'm just teasing you, Karen. Of course, we can be friends."
"Really?"
"Yes."
Karen gave Anna a thankful smile. "Okay."
Anna returned the gesture with a friendly smile. "So, may we be seated?"
Elsa made a move towards the head of the dining table. "Let's."
When the four young women were appropriately seated, Elsa made it her mission to see how things went with Kirsten and Karen. She turned toward Kirsten who sat opposite of Anna.
"Kirsten, how are things between you and Karen?"
"Things aren't perfect, but they certainly are better than before."
"What did you two do last night?"
"We went to the library and played a game of chess and then we went to see the portraits.", Karen happily interjected. Elsa turned her attention to the younger Danish princess.
"Oh? Who won the chess match?"
"Kirsten did as usual. Sometimes I could her to draw, but most games we've played she would win."
"Sounds like a big sister thing", Anna mumbled.
"What that supposed to mean, Anna?"
"Nothing!"
"That's a lie, Anna, and you know it.", Kirsten added.
"Kirsten, leave Anna alone. If she doesn't want to explain herself, she doesn't have to."
"Whose side are you on, Karen?"
"I'm the side I want to be on presently, Kirsten."
Anna shrank in on herself in embarrassment while Elsa was trying to think of way to display any tension rising up in the group. Before she had a chance to say anything though, the four young women heard a booming laughter echoing throughout the dining hall. Forgetting their quibble from before, all of them looked over at the source of the jolly laughter and spotted King Frederick walking in with Queen Isabella latched onto one of his arms. The royal couple joined their eldest daughter at the table.
"Well, well, it seems you ladies have been going through a lot from what we've heard over at the entrance."
Queen Isabella gently smiled at all four young women. "Indeed. It gives me great joy that everything seems to be fine among the four of you. Or I am mistaken?"
Elsa cleared her throat. "No. Everything is fine."
"I would that would be the case. You ladies sounded like old girlhood friends."
The four of them all blushed at King Frederick's comment. Elsa stuttered out air before clearing her throat again.
"I suppose you could say we were partaking in friendly banter."
"I would think so too, Your Majesty. Now, what shall we do? Have breakfast and talk about the trade or save business for afterwards?"
"We'll simply have breakfast first. We'll talk about the trade agreement afterwards."
"Splendid!"
Elsa looked over to the footmen standing dutifully off to the side and signaled for them to bring out the food. For the duration of the meal, King Frederick and Queen Isabella played the part of onlookers for the majority of the time only occasionally adding a commentary here or there. But for the most part they were content listening on the conversation among the four young women and how they got along with each other. It was a great improvement from the previous day and they were glad for the turnabout.
After breakfast, the group adjourned to a more appropriate place to hold the meeting for the trade agreement. The group decided to split up in two groups of three. Elsa assured Anna that she could take care of the trade agreement while she spent some time with Karen and Kirsten since they weren't needed for such a simple yet tedious procedure. Anna attempted to convince her sister that she could be at her side and try to help and let Kirsten and Karen to spend quality time together while they waited for the meeting to end. Elsa won the battle of wits in the end stating that Anna could keep them company and be their guide around the castle possibly finding a productive activity for the three of them to occupy themselves with.
Once everything was settled what each group of three was to do, they parted ways. Elsa, King Frederick and Queen Isabella went to the meeting hall while Anna, Karen, and Kirsten went to the stables-Anna thought some horseback riding would do them some good.
Anna was the first on her horse and looked over her shoulders to see how her friends were fairing getting up on their horses. She gave them each a quick glance and determined they were fine. They were just slower at getting up on their horses, but then again, Anna was faster at doing simple tasks than anybody else-except for Elsa. Her older sister may not match her speed in mounting a horse, but she was still considerably quick about it and as per usual perfectly graceful while doing it. Anna could never understand Elsa did it, but she wasn't going to question her sister's skill and natural knack for grace. The moment Kirsten and Karen were at Anna's sides, she gave them each a friendly smile and then took the lead in a nice stroll amongst the castle grounds.
Midway through the stroll, Kirsten and Karen were talking about the things they would plan to do to strengthen their relationship as sister once they got back home in Denmark. They talked behind Anna as they did not want to lose sight of her. At some point, Kirsten excused herself and made her way up to Anna.
"Hello, Anna."
Anna glanced over at Kirsten. "Oh, hey Kirsten. What may I do for you?"
"With all that has been happening between the four of us, I was wondering if you would like to talk about a book or story."
"You mean talk about The Tell-Tale Heart?"
Kirsten nodded.
"Oh! I'm not sure about talking about it. Had you forgotten about it?"
"I actually just remembered it just moments ago."
"Oh, good. I had forgotten after I got caught up in my frustration and jealousy. I'm sorry, Kirsten, but I don't think I can remember what I read about that story at this point. Besides, even if I remembered, I most likely would not have the strength to do so."
"That's all right, Anna." Kirsten paused and searched her brain. "Speaking of remembering something…."
"What? What is it?"
Kirsten carefully pulled out a note from her skirt pocket and hand it over to Anna. The strawberry blond haired princess took the folded piece of paper from her friend.
"What is this?"
"It's for you."
"Who's it from?"
"See for yourself."
Anna unfolded the piece of crumpled parchment paper. The note read:
Dear Anna, I'm sorry I couldn't join you and Elsa for breakfast, but I really had to return to work. I hope you have a day as wonderful as you. See you in a few days' time, my sunshine. Love, Kristoff.
Anna felt touched. She felt so lucky to have Kristoff in her life. She was so glad to have him and her sister in life. Tears of joy brimmed to at the top of her eyes as she turned to face Kirsten.
"How-?"
"Kristoff wanted to leave this by your bedside table and have you see it when you woke in the morning, but you weren't in your room. So, he took the risk and found me in my room. He caught me just in time before I fell asleep. He asked me to hold onto the note for him until I saw you before my family and I left today.
"Oh….Thank you, Kirsten. I don't know what Kristoff would have done if he couldn't leave the note for me somewhere. It's a good thing he and you became friends so he could depend on you to help him out."
"Yes indeed. It's too bad he didn't know you were sleeping with Elsa. Maybe he would have left the note beside the bed if he at least knew you were with your sister for the night."
"Oh lord, Kirsten. That would be so embarrassing if Kristoff saw me and Elsa holding each other in our sleep. I love and trust him deeply, but there are some things I wouldn't want him to see. It would be so weird if he saw us. He could be the type to see a more sensitive side to me and tease me for it."
Kirsten suppressed a giggle with her hand. "Maybe he would and maybe he wouldn't. Why would you have to worry about your boyfriend seeing you wrapped up in the arms of your sister? There are plenty of siblings who sleep together."
"Yes, but most of the times they have to share a bed to save on money and space. Elsa and I have the luxury of having our own bedrooms. Even when we used to share the same room, we slept in separate beds…well unless I was determined to sleep with Elsa when I had a nightmare or simply a bad dream. I had no reason to bother traveling to my parents' room when I had my older sister at arms' reach to comfort and protect me. Besides, I think Kristoff might have trouble understanding that a relationship between siblings can be so deep that it seems perfectly normal for them to share a bed whenever they felt like it."
"Hmmm. Maybe he would comment on it if he saw you two, but I still think he wouldn't find it that strange. You and Elsa are sisters not lovers, so he would have nothing to really worry about."
"Yes. That may be true, but I think he's a little jealous of Elsa and me."
"Jealous? Hmmmm..."
"What?"
An idea fell on top of Kirsten like a ton of bricks. "Of course!"
"What?"
"It all makes sense about his behavior. He's jealous of Elsa."
Anna raised an eyebrow at Kirsten. "What are you talking about?"
"Yesterday, he had told me of his worries that you loved Elsa more than him twice and each time I told them that you love him and Elsa equally, but in different ways. He seemed self-assured by the second time I told him how sibling love and romantic love work."
"Well…."
Kirsten's eyebrows perked up in surprise. "What?"
"Don't let Kristoff know this, but I kind of do favor Elsa over him. But I don't mean for it to happen. It just happens. If you think about it, it's justified for me to feel this way since Elsa and I were separated for thirteen years because of her lack of controlling her powers and that the only reason I approached Kristoff was for him to help me scale the Northern Mountain so I could talk to Elsa and bring her home. We deserved to catch up and spend time together. Kristoff is a wonderful guy and I am so grateful to have him in my life, but my romantic life with him shouldn't get in the way of me spending time with my sister. After all, I did learn a lot about love once my heart thawed."
"Hm. I suppose that makes sense."
"So, if you ever come back for a visit, will you promise to not let Kristoff know that I favor Elsa over him only slightly?"
"Of course. Besides, it's not going to harm anybody. It is after all only a slight of favoritism and it's a slight that is natural. Even if Kristoff found out, I'm sure he would understand."
"Maybe he would, but no time soon. He eventually would understand, but that's why I don't want him to know right now."
Kirsten smirked at Anna. "Hm."
"What?"
"It seems to me that you're more tactful than I thought."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I'm not saying that you're irresponsible or anything like that, Anna, it's just you came off as a more spirited type than your sister Elsa is. But now I see that you can be almost as tactful as your own sister."
Anna blushed. "Me? Tactful like Elsa? No way."
"You should give yourself more credit, Anna. It seems Elsa has no qualms of thinking highly of you. Why don't you follow her example and think better of yourself and what you're capable of as well?"
Anna bit her lip in concentration. Then she quickly said: "I'll try."
Kirsten softly smiled at Anna as the strawberry blonde haired princess stashed her note in her skirt pocket. Just then Karen joined the two of them.
"What are you two talking about?"
Kirsten smiled at her sister. "I gave Anna a note that was from Kristoff."
"Anything else?"
"We also talked about how Kristoff is jealous of Elsa."
This piece of information piqued interest in Karen. "Oh? How so?"
"Yes. Apparently he's envious of Elsa having such a deep and loving relationship with Anna."
Anna's blush on her cheeks flared up and she glared at Kirsten. "He said no such thing!"
Kirsten smirked again. "Yes, that is true, but it was implied."
Anna was about to say something in reply but gave up. It was her fortune and good timing that a royal staff member jotted up to them on his horse-it was Andrew. All three of them turned their horses around to see their approaching visitor better.
"Your Highnesses, Queen Elsa would like for you ladies to return to the castle. The meeting has been adjourned. The trade agreement has been updated and King Frederick and Queen Isabella are ready to head back to the kingdom of Denmark."
Kirsten cocked her head to the left. "So soon?"
"Yes."
"Well, let's return to the castle. I'm sure mother and father want to return home as soon as they can so they don't have to worry about keeping the kingdom in their absence for too long."
Andrew, who came to get the three princess, turned his horse around and led them back to the castle as an acceptable stretch of time as not make his queen waiting more than necessary for the safe return of her beloved sister and valued guests. He did not keep time with his task because he was afraid of her. No. He could never fear Queen Elsa, but he rather not see a frown on her beautiful face. She seemed like such a warm and caring person despite her icy cold powers and he didn't want to let her down.
The moment Kirsten, Karen, and Anna returned to the castle they were greeted at the front door by Elsa, King Frederick and Queen Isabella. Kirsten and Karen launched themselves toward their patient parents. Anna smiled as she watched the scene unfold before her like a flower in bloom on how the family seemed so content to be with each other. Then she turned her head and that moment she saw a wide smile painted over her sister's face. Her body was perfectly poised and her hands were folded in the front. The blush that was on Anna's cheeks returned but in a soft pink color. She cracked a crooked smile and began to walk toward her sister in slow strides and then eventually ran to her. Elsa had her arms out at the right time when Anna practically slammed her body into hers.
A small "oomph" escaped Elsa's lips as she tried to stabilize herself and Anna before they could fall over. Anna gaily laughed into her sister's shoulder realizing that she almost knocked her down to the floor. Elsa pulled Anna just enough to look at her face. She waited for Anna to calm down before she would speak up.
"My goodness, Anna, you almost knocked me over."
"Sorry. I just felt so happy for some reason when I saw you waiting for me once I saw Princess Kirsten and Princess Karen go to their parents."
Elsa smiled in understanding, but she wanted to tease her sister a little. She brushed Anna's fringe out of the way and pressed her right hand on her forehead.
"Do you have a fever? Because it seems it have a bad case of unconditional love. Where did this come from? Do you need me to cool you off with my powers?"
Elsa was about to actually summon her powers and channel them into her hand to cool off Anna's forehead because she did feel a little warm but nothing to worry about. Anna quickly grabbed Elsa's hand and brought it down to be held between their bodies. Elsa's smile never left her face.
"I'm not sick, Elsa."
With her free hand, she lightly tapped Anna's nose as a sign of pure adoration for her younger sister. "I know that."
A calm silence overcame the two sisters for a short while before they instinctively turned their heads toward the royal Danish family who all had smiled on their faces admiring the sight before them. Elsa and Anna parted and stood side by side to properly face their departing guests.
"Well, with the trade agreement updated, we best be on our way back home."
"It was our pleasure having you as our guests and doing business with you, King Frederick."
"It was our pleasure as well being your guests and updating the trade agreement, Queen Elsa."
"I wish you the best of luck on your journey back home."
"Thank you. Goodbye, Queen Elsa and Princess Anna."
King Frederick bowed while Elsa and Anna curtsied. "Goodbye, King Frederick."
King Frederick gave the two royal sisters one last smile before heading towards the door with servants in tow. Queen Isabella curtsied Elsa and Anna giving them a separate goodbye before joining her husband. Kirsten and Karen linger behind their parents to give Elsa and Anna their own goodbyes. Kirsten hugged Elsa while Karen hugged Anna goodbye and then after an appropriate time of hugging, Kirsten and Karen switched people. Once they all hugged each other, Kirsten and Karen gave their friends goodbye curtsies which were returned to them in kind before they left through the door to catch up with their parents. Elsa and Anna watched Kirsten and Karen's walk away through the door crack before the door closed all the way.
The moment they could no longer see their friends, Elsa and Anna looked at each other.
"Now what?"
"I'm not sure."
"What did you include in the new trade agreement with them?"
"Well, not much. We just had to update a few agreements that were made when mother and father were around. But I did manage to convince King Frederick to put back their offer of Danish pastries and split pea soup recipes that you had declined before because you were mad."
"I wasn't mad, I was-"
"Grumpy."
"Hey! I wasn't grumpy I was-"
Elsa had let an exasperated sigh. "I know, I know. I know you weren't grumpy. I was only trying to lighten the mood since that is not a fond memory for either one of us."
Anna was about to say something, but then chose not to so she closed her mouth. She bit her lower lip thoughtfully determining what to say next.
"Do you have any other important business to attend to?"
"I have paper work to do." Elsa looked at the pleading looking in her sister's eyes. "But I don't have any pressing matters.
Hope skyrocketed in Anna's heart and into her eyes. "So, do you have time to spend with me?"
"Yes."
"Wonderful. What do you want to do?"
"I don't know. What do you want to do?"
Anna took a moment to think what they could do and then, suddenly, she had a glint in her eyes.
"How about we ride our bike…."
"Fine."
"…In the halls!"
"What!?"
Anna quickly grabbed the nearest wrist and dragged her poor older sister away to ride the bike they had asked for a blue bike that was made for two adults since their old one was meant for children. The servants and royal staff could hear the boisterous laugh of Princess Anna and the pleading yelp of their young but wise and benevolent ruler, Queen Elsa. Happy to know that they had nothing to fret about, the servants and royal staff members went back to work. The only sound that heard afterwards was the soft echo of Queen Elsa's voice bouncing off the walls pleading Princess Anna to slow down.
The End.
A/N: If you guys are interested, I could make an extra chapter, but it would be more of an epilogue.
