The Nightgown Dislocalization - Proposition - Chapter 2
As she blinked into the intruding brightness of the hallway lights, Amy stood before him and nothing more than silky soft loungewear. The kind that Penny would wear. The kind that Raj had bought his girlfriend just recently. The kind that was for other people to see.
He swallowed.
Then looked down and saw that the shimmering silky bottoms of her attire didn't even cover her knees.
He swallowed. Hard.
Oh boy, he was in a lot of trouble ... and then her somnolent voice, which was a lot deeper than usual acknowledged him.
"What's up, Sheldon?"
How can a voice be so raspy but alluring at the same time?
If anyone had had the audaciousness to propose that he, Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper, would use even an ever so small part of his brain cells to decipher the anomalies of human voices after sleep, he would have proposed them to not pass go and directly go into a specialized asylum. Right now, he wasn't even sure if his own vocal chorus were operating in normal parameters. All he managed to produce were unintelligible sounds that neither seemed to be able to form correct words nor a complete sentence. Somewhere in his brain something (or someone?) decided for him that those sounds probably weren't all to appealing to his girlfriend so he stopped making them and instead looked at her in amazement and wonder.
Still swallowing more often than he usually would have.
"Sheldon? You ok?" asked his girlfriend, Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, who had just rubbed her eyes and yawned adorably. She stood there in her loungewear, a silky black combination of sleep shorts and a tight-fitted sleep shirt. Her hair was pinned up in a messy bun but still shone vividly in the hallway light. A few strands hung loosely around her face and Sheldon was temped to brush them back behind her ears. He caught himself before his hands set into motion and he sudden movement of his right hand caused him to return to the here and now. And the reason for him to be at his girlfriend's door past his bedtime at an ungodly hour. Almost 11pm. He shuddered and then found his voice again.
"Uhm..."
"Do you ... wanna come in or something?" Amy said, alert. She had witnessed all forms of weird and anti-social behavior from her PhD boyfriend but muttering incoherent sounds and showing up at her door at a rather late hour were new. She wondered what had gotten into him and hoped she might get a chance to actually find out before he chickened out. Again.
"That would be nice, thank you," Sheldon said and entered her apartment the second she made way and allowed him to move inside. His arm brushing hers ever so slightly which sent electric jolts through her entire system.
Amy's eyes widened in shock at the ever so casual but seemingly deliberate contact and she couldn't help but notice how aware she had become of his presence, electric waves still flowing through her system, alerting every single nerve in her body. Her fingertips tingled as she touched the cool material of the door handle to close the apartment door. Before she turned to face her boyfriend, she tried to gain some sort of composure but immediately realized she would be failing miserably.
"So, Sheldon, what brings you here at this ..." Amy wanted to say "ungodly" or "weird" but kept it nice, "... unusual hour?"
Earlier that night...
Amy stormed out of the apartment and into the hallway in a frenzy, her eyes blinking away the tears of anger and frustration. She had clenched her left fist, her right was clutched around the purple purse she had chosen for today. She whirled down the star way like a storm leaving nothing but destruction in her wake. As angry as she was, she almost ran into Penny and Leonard on her way down the last staircase, stumbling over her own two feet when trying to avoid the impact, her fall just softened by Leonard's immediate reaction and him stumbling backwards, almost hitting the hallway wall.
"Hey, hey, easy," was all he could huff, after he had slowed Amy's decent significantly. Penny looked at the incident in mere confusion and quickly asked: "You ok, Amy?"
"Hey, hey," Leonard huffed, "what about me?"
"Leonard, we had rules about being a gullible weeny, don't you remember?" Penny scolded him but took a look at the right elbow of his, rubbing the bruised part slowly.
"We can out some ice on that, sweetie," Penny said and then turned to face a still angry-stricken Amy, who rubbed her right thigh and made incoherent noises associated with pain.
"You ok, Amy?" Leonard asked, sensing the aggravated state their friend was in.
"Ah, it's alright. I bruise easily," the female microbiologist answered and stopped rubbing her thigh. Nothing a good ointment spiced with pain relievers would not fix in almost a heartbeat. Her heartbeat slowed significantly and when she realized that her two friends were still eyeing her expectantly, she realized they had asked another, rather unspoken question.
"It's alright," Amy said, "I'll just go back home and forget tonight ever happened."
"That bad?" Penny singsonged but looked anxious. She knew how Sheldon could ruin someone's day in just a heartbeat and it saddened her to see Amy this aggravated and confused. To hell, she had almost clumsily fallen down the stairs, which was a job description normally made for her her clumsy fiancée.
The look Amy shot her blonde friend sufficed as an explanation of the degree of damage that had been done tonight.
"Huh", Penny huffed and signalled Leonard to start the ascend to her apartment on her own so she could catch up with her friend, if needed. Leonard quickly caught the hint and slowly made his way up the stairs, shooting his fiancée one last look before he did so. 'Wonder what's going on', Leonard thought.
With Leonard out of earshot, Penny turned to Amy, pulled her into a tight hug and asked: "What did he do now? Spill!"
"Ummm," Sheldon muttered again, his messenger bag still swung across his body. He closed his eyes and silently counted to 20 in order to calm his rather ravig heart.
Amy got impatient with her boyfriend not explaining the reason of his unexpected and unplanned visit to her apartment and started to tap her right foot onto the ground in a steady rhythm.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The noise had the desired effect as Sheldon's eyes flew open and he blurted out:
"I wanna have another sleepover!"
