I don't own the Sisters Grimm. *sobs in the corner* The world is so cruel!
Attacks in the Willows
Sabrina's POV
I looked down at the scene below from my place in Puck's grip. Fires were raging, with thick, dark clouds of smoke curling above them. The haze was beginning to cover the entire district, but I could still hear the screams of terror down below. I turned my attention to Puck; whose eyes were now black in fury. He was as tense as I was; our jaws clenched and muscles stiff in preparation for battle.
I turned my attention to the Guard that insisted in following us; roughly 25 elite faerie soldiers that are some of the most powerful faeries in the entire kingdom, that are trained and dedicated in protecting the Crown. I sighed, this was supposed to be about appeasing them, not a battle.
Puck touched down a few yards away from the small battalion of Everafters wrecking havoc in the district. Puck looked at me, "Ready, Grimm?"
I snorted, "As ready as I can ever be. What's the plan?
He turned to face the Guard and spoke now, "I want to isolate them in small groups so they can't do revolt. Detain them, until we can find a way to appease them. Keep this small, and do not actually fight. Word might spread of attacks, and we do not need the risk of civil war. Now go; thank you for sacrificing your lives to protect your country." Puck smiled grimly as he said this.
The Guard saluted as one and said, "For our Families, for our Faerie, for our Crown." And with that, they dispersed.
"Sabrina, I need you to protect and evacuate as many people as you can."
I raised an eyebrow, "Consider it done. I'll join you afterwards."
Puck smiled, "I wouldn't have it any other way, Grimm." He brushed my cheek and whispered, "Be careful," before striding away, towards the flames.
I turned away to the people screaming and running away from the chaos. I'll have to evacuate the innocents first. I ran towards them, while drawing my sword. At first, people scattered thinking I was a rebel, but when they saw the emblem on my tunic they gathered behind me. I turned to face them, "Okay, people! You have to get out of here for now, it's not safe. If you can fly them do it now! Don't go far, but far enough that they can't find and hurt you. Don't take your belongings, there's not enough time for that. Just go and hide. We'll tell you when it's safe to come back. We'll keep your homes as safe as possible." The crowd looked at me with a hopelessness that I understood. It was hard to leave your home, not knowing if you can ever come back to it. So I added, "I'm sorry, but this is for the best for now."
They now looked at me with understanding; they hated it, but they understood. Most of them took flight, while others without wings turned to flee; they headed towards the dense forest of willows, surrounding the district. It should be a good place to hide. I turned my attention to the rest of the civilians stuck here, and started to sprint forward to spread the word.
Mothers struggled with sobbing children as I told them to flee, a few tears running down their faces as well. The families fought to stay together in the rush of people, occasionally a child would get lost and I would rush to their aid. A few Everafters had even refused to leave their homes; telling me that they built their homes from scratch and refused to leave it while it could be destroyed. There was nothing I could do to persuade them, so instead I wished them the best of luck.
When almost everyone was safely hidden, I ran to join the fight. There was blood on the ground, with battle cries and magic pulsing through the air. The fires were out now, but some buildings were still smoking. I could see forcefields trapping the rebels; they had a one-way effect, like the one that used to stand around Ferryport Landing. The plan was simple then; engage the rebels and back them into the forcefields.
My first opponent was a brownie; he had a shock of dark brown hair and pointed ears, with glinting green eyes. He snarled at me fiercely and moved to attack, I defended myself but made no move to attack him. Though, as we continued fighting I slowly took away his ground, forcing him to move backward; until he was so distracted, he didn't realize he walked past the forcefield. I smiled, mission accomplished. Now to another opponent.
I subdued about 20 rebels, all of which were non-magical, when Puck ran into me. His eyes turned back to their usual forest green colour, but they were steely and ablaze in concentration of the battle, though they softened when met my own. "How are you holding up?"
"Good, you?"
"I'm great. Are you hurt?"
I rolled my eyes, "Don't you think this is a little unnecessary?"
Puck scowled, "How badly are you hurt?"
"I'm not hurt. Just a few scratches. We don't all have magic to make shields, you know. But, never mind that. How are we doing?"
"Good, really good. There's just 10 of them left; they're all faeries though, they're tough fighters."
"Where are they?"
"They're tough fighters; all of them powerful faeries."
"Please, I'll be fine. I've detained about 20 already. Don't worry about me, you go and deal with some yourself."
"Fine. I'll need you at the end of this to decide what to do with them; so don't die."
I laughed, "I'll try my best, Stinkpot."
Puck cracked a smile before stroking my cheek and kissing me chastely. "Good, let's go."
We hadn't walked a yard before one of the remaining rebels engaged Puck; both of them were shooting bursts of magic at the other, muttering in Faerie, and using their swords at the same time.
Soon enough, someone else engaged me not too far way from Puck. The first thing they did was send a spell my way, which I dodged. I tensed in preparation for something to happen, but nothing did. My lips twisted into a smile; if I dodged the magic, it doesn't effect me. I drew my sword and let the blade clash against the rebel's own sword. We continued sparring, neither of us getting anywhere since I refused to take a swipe at him, and he decided to simply fire spell after spell at me and not truly engage me.
I was aware of my surroundings as I was aware of my opponent; I could see the remaining rebels being subdued, until my opponent was one of the five left. By this point, I was slowly backing the faerie and he was close to the forcefield. But right over the threshold, he hit me with a spell.
My arm burned, at the spot he hit me. I felt myself drop to the ground and writhe in pain. I screamed in agony as waves of pain washed over me; nothing else existed but the torment of the spell. My vision blacked out...I felt unconsciousness come closer. Someone was shouting my name...I smelled a forest, and felt someone strong and warm cradle me...Puck...the pain was fading now...
"Come on, Sabrina. Open your eyes, please, please, please. Stay with me, please."
My eyes opened to meet Puck's forest green eyes. I smiled weakly, "Hey, Puck. How's it going?"
Puck laughed weakly, his eyes glittered with tears. "Don't do that, Grimm."
"Yes, because I planned on this."
"Would it be wrong for me to say I told you so?"
I scowled at him, "Yes, it would be."
"Too bad. I told you so. Now look at you, you're all mangled and bloody."
"What are you talking about, I'm fine." I pushed myself out of his lap and stood up, "See?" I swayed on the spot.
Puck scrambled up and caught me before forcing down into his lap again. "Have you even looked at yourself?"
I snorted, "It can't be that-" I looked at my arm to see that it was covered in blood...that was shimmering slightly. I looked up at Puck, alarmed.
"Don't worry, the glimmer is the magic. The magic of the spell and my own that is keeping you from pain. But, it's temporary; so we need you to healers quickly."
"What happened to the rebels?"
"They're all detained."
"And the civilians?"
"The Guard is getting them now."
"Did anybody die?"
"No one."
"Are you okay?"
"I'm great."
I sighed in relief, "Okay, let's find some healers."
Puck stroked my cheek softly, "I'm going to put you to sleep, it'll be easy that way."
I nodded, "Okay, but don't drop me Fairy Boy."
"Of course I won't, Sabrina."
I was getting sleepy now. I closed my eyes and felt a pair of lips brush my forehead before I dropped into oblivion.
~~~Time Skip~~~
I woke up in a hospital bed, and the first thing I saw were green eyes. I smiled softly, "Hey."
Puck stroked my hand with his calloused thumb, "Hey."
"How long was I out?"
"Two hours."
"I'm okay, right?"
"Yeah. The healers were able to close up the wound and the magic wore off. You'll be fine."
I smiled, "Good. Does the family know?"
"'Course they do." Puck's sad smile dropped off, and he closed his eyes in defeat.
"What's wrong?"
"This was all my fault."
I frowned, "No it wasn't. I'm alive because of you."
"No. If I kept you out of this, you would fine."
"Puck, stop it. This isn't your fault. I want to be in this."
"But you keep getting hurt! Look at you! That rebel scooped your flesh out and burned you!"
"So what? I'm your general, it's my job to fight at your side."
"Maybe that was a bad idea after all. Maybe all of this was a bad idea."
"What are you talking about?"
"If I left you alone, you would be perfectly fine. Not stuck in a damn hospital bed, after experiencing pain like that."
"If you left alone, I would have been dead by now."
"No. If I never came back from my trip. Or at least didn't tell you I did."
I blinked and stared at him. Was he regretting us now? What was he doing? "So you're planning to leave now? To get away from us?"
He looked like he was on the verge of tears, "I just want you safe."
"I don't care about being safe, if I can be happy. You're part of my family, you have been for two years now. If you turn your back on us all now, it will crush us; as it would with any other family member. Don't do this. Think about Red and Daphne and Basil...and me. You can't do this, Puck. I will always be in danger; I'm a Grimm. But with you there, at least I can have someone I can rely on to fight with me. Even if you do leave, the only thing that changes is the hurt we'll all feel. You're not guilty for this, Puck. It's just the way things are."
Puck opened his eyes and looked at me deeply, "Sabrina..."
I got up gingerly, to my surprise nothing hurt. I walked over to Puck and hugged him, soon enough I felt his arms wrap around me in return. "Don't leave. We'll be perfectly fine."
Puck pressed his lip into my hair, "Okay. But you have to stop scaring us, Grimm. Honestly, it's getting kinda old too."
I laughed, "I'll try think of something new. Hey, what made you think leaving was best?"
He pulled me closer and sighed, "Henry threw a fit when I told the family. He said this was all my fault and I should've left you guys alone."
"What? That's insane, Dad doesn't-"
"No Sabrina, he just wants to look out for his family. He's been gone for two years of your lives; he doesn't want to miss any more of your lives. It would be cruel of fate to steal you away when he just got back. But fate was always cruel to Henry, and he's scared of that."
I smiled into Puck's chest, "It's so weird when you get wise."
"I'm 4,000 years old and I'm a King. Of course I'm wise."
"No. You're Puck."
We laughed together. Puck pulled away gently from our hug to look me in the eye, "You need to be careful, Grimm."
"I'll do it to the best of my ability. But I'm still fighting with you. You did during the Everafter War, and I'm doing it now. Get over it, Stinkpot."
Puck chuckled, "I know, Grimm. I'm sorry for that. But when I saw you on the ground screaming, and when Henry told me that it would have been better if I never came back...I don't know. I just wanted the easiest way out of this, a way to keep you all safe."
"We'll be fine, Puck. I promise. We might get hurt but, in the end it'll be okay."
"I hope you're right, Grimm. Now enough of the sappiness. I'm about to puke."
I rolled my eyes, "Alright, alright; let's go home. I guess we'll deal with the rebels tomorrow?"
Puck tensed for a moment, "Yeah, we will. We'll see what they want and decide how to deal with them."
I nodded, "Good. Until then, forget about that. We're gonna just hang out."
"We need to work on your training."
"Leave that for tomorrow. Just forget it all for now. We'll be okay, Stinkpot."
"Okay...race you home?"
I laughed, "You're on. No flying! It's cheating."
"Wouldn't dream of it, Grimm. On your mark, get set, go!" We dashed out of the palace and through the streets, until soon we were in Central Park; neck to neck. As soon as we stepped out of the statue, Puck grabbed me; the next thing I knew we were flying.
"Puck! Put me down! We were supposed to race."
He laughed almost manically, "Like I wouldn't have won. Face it, stinky, you're slow."
I rolled my eyes and punched his shoulder, "No, I'm not. Now shut up and set me down."
"Just enjoy the ride and stop complaining. I'll set you down when we get back."
"Fine," I mock-huffed. Closing my eyes, I felt the wind blow over me. I heard Puck chuckle; he wasn't fooled by my faked frustration. I smiled. Oh well.
A/N: Man...this chapter was intense. I feel like I kinda rushed the ending...dammit I probably did. Sorry guys, but I am currently beta-less and am loaded with homework. I feel like an awful person; having ditched you all just like that. I am so so so so so sorry! Please forgive me! On the plus side I have efficiently cleared my schedule for time for you guys! I'm trying for these longer chapters that are really think with plot, which take a lot of time to develop. I've honestly spent about two weeks just trying to develop the plot for this one chapter. I liked it personally; the major plots are coming into play. And because the action is happening, Sabrina's school like will be taking a back seat, and Puckabrina fluff with not be plentiful. But, not to worry; they will still be adorable amidst all of the action. :D Again, PLEASE forgive me guys! I'm gonna do my best to write as quickly as possible; just be patient, please! You guys are AMAZING; the reviews I've gotten are mind-blowing and absolutely touching. THANK YOU! I hope this chapter wasn't OOC; but, to be fair, this is a battle so Puck will be a little out of character, since he is King and all that. :) Bye! And I hope to have the next chapter up soon! :D
Oh and give it up for my longest chapter ever! 2,807 words! :D
