Merlin needs to have faith right now.

Work Text:

Over the past few days Merlin had barely moved from the chair he sat on. Gaius was only lucky enough to get Merlin to move after he politely told him that his hygiene had slipped below normal.

Merlin had barely eaten or slept since Arthur was in hospital. For Merlin having to deal with the fact that his friend was fighting for his life was alone emotionally painful.

Uther was just as distraught; unlike Merlin he hid his emotions away to the very bottom of his mind. Merlin had often wondered how Uther kept his heart so cold.

Merlin shook himself out of his thoughts when he came to see Arthur for the final time that evening. He couldn't help but notice the amount of wires that coiled around Arthur like snakes.

Merlin furiously wiped away the river of tears which were spilling down his cheeks, hating that beast in the tunnel which drove Arthur to his fall.

After Merlin was finished getting rid of tears Arthur's words suddenly invaded his head.

No man is worth your tears.

"That's not true, you are worth all my tears" Merlin began, his voice trembling.

Merlin coughed before continuing, "Arthur if you can hear me now, I pray that you will listen".

Silence.

"This kingdom needs you, all your people have Faith in you including me, you just need to have Faith in yourself!"

Merlin blinked back more tears.

"Once more you should have Faith in yourself, you are a better man than your father, always have been and more importantly you always will be!"

To show that Merlin had meant what he said, he let out the tears which had been threatening to spill for what seemed to be a life time.

Merlin looked at Arthur for the final time before he was led away by Gaius.
